A message from the Chief Officer – Davina Lytton .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

“Age UK Walsall has provided services for older people across the borough since 1996 (formally as Age Concern Walsall). Over the years the range of services provided by the charity has changed to meet the changing needs of service users. However, within the current economic climate, services have also changed due to loss of funding. We currently have one remaining contract funded by Walsall Borough Council and the charity is constantly looking for new ways of working and income generation – to include charging for services. We are committed to ensuring that the services we offer now and in the future provide real choice whilst meeting the needs of the diverse population of older people across the borough. Although an independent charity in our own right, Age UK Walsall is affiliated to the National Charity, Age UK, which is the charity developed from the +#0%#0 -$ %# -,!#0, ,%* ," ," #*. 2&# %#"@ The work of the charity could not be sustained without the involvement, dedication and hard work of our team of volunteers who not only help with service delivery but become involved in other aspects of the organisation, such as fundraising.”

Friendship Support Scheme .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Our Friendship Support Scheme was developed in January 2012 when the funding for our old Befriending service was cut completely. The service offers volunteer support for people aged 50 plus in the community who find themselves socially isolated. The volunteer will work proactively with the individual to engage in interests and activities. The volunteer will visit for a minimum of 2 hours at a cost of just £10 per visit. The scheme has become increasingly popular, with individuals valuing the volunteer visits, which may include the opportunity to get out and about in the local community. The service also provides peace of mind for family members who may be concerned about an elderly relative’s loneliness and well-being. We are always looking to recruit new volunteers to join our existing team, if you would like to find out more about this and other volunteering opportunities within Age UK Walsall, please contact us on the details below.
