Home Visiting

............................................................................................................................... .....

............................................................................................................................... .....

What happens after the volunteer has started? ............................................................................................................................... .....

............................................................................................................................... .....

The home visiting service is provided by volunteers who have contacted Age UK Harrow wanting to help older people who find it difficult to get out of their house and who would welcome a regular visitor. The volunteers come from many different backgrounds and age groups. Several close friendships between clients and their volunteers have been forged through our scheme, which is pleasing. What service is provided?

Additional information ............................................................................................................................... .....

Our volunteers provide clients with conversation and companionship and emotional support, when needed. Occasionally, our volunteers are able to help a client revive an old pastime which may have lapsed, teach them a new skill or accompany and support hem on a short walk. There are certain things that our volunteer home visitors cannot do. Please remember that the visitor is an unpaid volunteer and the main purpose of the scheme is to promote friendship. The visitors must not be asked to do cleaning or assist with personal care. Other organisations and agencies exist to provide this kind of support. Should you require information about additional local services, please ask your home visitor to notify Age UK Harrow and they will arrange for someone to contact you to discuss this further.

Age UK Harrow has teamed up with Michael Hart from the Institute of Will Writers to provide a will writing service.

............................................................................................................................... .....

Who is it for?

Why make a will?

............................................................................................................................... .....

By making a will, you will ensure that your property and possessions are distributed as you would wish. Without a will you cannot assume that your spouse, registered Civil Partner or partner will automatically inherit everything. You can appoint, as executors, people you trust to carry out the administration of your estate in accordance with your wishes. It is important to remember that you can make changes to your will at any time and this can often be done by means of a simple codicil. However it is easier to do this if the will is professionally drawn up. Other

Fundraising ............................................................................................................................... .............................................................................................................................. ....................

Age UK Harrow has been promoting the well being of older people in the Borough of Harrow for over 40 years and is a member of the Age UK Federation but is completely independent with its own charity number and its board of trustees elected locally. Age UK Harrow receives no direct funding from any national body. This does mean that we have to work very hard to raise funds for all our services (and with all the cutbacks in service availability for older people) and it has become even more vital for the older residents on the borough to have our services available to them. Donations We rely heavily on the support of local people and businesses; they support our work in a variety of ways. Please contact us if you are able to support Age UK Harrow in any way. You can support the work of Age UK Harrow by becoming a member or by donating your time or money. Information on donating on-line can also be found on our website: www.ageukharrow.org.uk If you would like to make a donation to Age UK Harrow, please consider signing a Gift Aid certificate. If you are a tax payer Charitable causes can reclaim tax already paid on donations made under the Gift Aid Scheme. The giver must have paid a tax amount that at least equals the tax being reclaimed on the donation. UK tax paid on income, capital gains and savings all qualify. Your donation will be even more valuable to us. Fundraising If you are thinking of running a marathon or similar sponsored event or just holding a coffee morning we would be pleased to support you. Please contact us before doing so.

Remember us in your Will Gifts of any size are important to help us meet our many commitments, now and in the future. Please consider helping us by leaving a gift in your Will. Gifts in Memory Remember the life of a special person in a valuable and positive way. Make a donation in the name of that person to make a lasting memory of them and their life. If you are arranging the funeral of a loved one, you may want to suggest that friends and family donate to Age UK Harrow instead of, or as well as, buying flowers. Remember each gift, however small, is important to the older people of Harrow. We thank you for remembering Age UK Harrow at such a sensitive time. Please contact us if this is something you would like to do. Our Mission Age UK Harrow exists to promote the well being of all older people in the London Borough of Harrow and to help make life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. From our mission comes our vision of an organisation with increased capacity, in collaboration with other local organisations, to meet the needs of Harrow’s culturally diverse older population. Our aim • To support older people to ensure that they get the most from life. • To provide information and advice of interest to older people. • To provide a range of services for older people • To influence local government and public opinion and policy to the benefit of older people. P R I N C E E VA N S SOLICITORS LLP Nobody knows what the future holds and none of us wish to see a loved one become physically or mentally unable to manage their own affairs. However, it is a tragic fact of life that this can happen to anyone either through the onset of dementia or Alzheimer’s, through physical illness, or even as a result of an accident.

At Prince Evans Solicitors, we have the largest dedicated Private Client department in Ealing with considerable experience in all matters concerning Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Deputyship, Court of Protection, Probate and Trusts. Having Lasting Powers of Attorney in place can be a great relief to those dearest to you, and can lessen the hardship they may face should decisions need to be made on your behalf during your lifetime. Whilst everyone’s family and financial circumstances are different, having a professionally drafted Will tailored to your personal circumstances can protect the welfare and inheritance of those dearest to you. Where a person has sadly lost their mental capacity to manage their own affairs, it is sadly too late to have Lasting Powers of Attorney put in place. Prince Evans provide a cost effective efficient service for applications to the Court of Protection to appoint a Deputy.
