The Lake District is a unique place every day of the year and provides the most romantic backdrop for your wedding photographs and a very popular destination for your guests to visit. Whatever the season, a wedding at the Inn on the Lake will always be striking. In October when the leaves are turning golden yellow and the roads are less busy, into winter when the air is cold and crisp, the top of the mountains are covered in snow and the lakes look even deeper, the Inn on the Lake is a warm and welcoming place to greet your guests with a glass of hot mulled wine or winter punch in front of the roaring fire. A Christmas wedding at the Inn on the Lake can be described as a fairy tale come true. From November until early January the hotel is adorned with festive decorations and fairy lights inside as well as outside, with the hotel oozing a warm and welcoming magical Christmas atmosphere. There can be no better time to celebrate a wedding with family and friends.
The Inn on the Lake is renowned both locally and nationally for the excellent food our award-winning chef and his team serve our guests. Creative and exciting menus using fresh, local ingredients will ensure that your event is remembered not only for the occasion but for the cuisine itself. As well as an extensive a la carte menu, from which you can tailor your own carte du jour, our head chef has also designed a selection of set menus to suit your taste and budget. On offer there’s also seasonal and Cumbrian menus, the famous Lake Gala buffet, a selection of finger and fork buffets and even a steamer menu (to be served on the Ullswater steamer in the afternoon). On fine days your guests can enjoy the welcome drinks reception on the large lakeside terrace and the barbecue menu, including a fabulous Hog Roast, can also be prepared al fresco on this terrace.
Our Sommelier makes the wine choice easy for your big day, helping to choose from a range of drinks packages, each one of them intended to meet your budget and tastes. If you wish to compose your own welcome drinks and wines for the day, you will find our lists extensive, ranging from popular, inexpensive bottles of wine to the more unusual and impressive range. Anything you don’t see on our list we will do our best to obtain for you. Weather permitting, the drinks reception can be held on the hotel’s lakeside terrace or lawns.
For some guests the time between the wedding breakfast and the evening function can seem long. A lake cruise with fresh air and perhaps a glass of chilled Chardonnay in summer, or a mug of mulled wine in the winter, both served with canapÊs, is a welcome way of spending a couple of hours. How to find us To reach a fabulous destination can often be difficult – but this is not the case with the Inn on the Lake. Being only 300 miles from London, 100 miles from Manchester and 120 miles from Edinburgh, the hotel is easily reached via the M6, taking junction 40.

By Car: From junction 40 you will need to head west (signposted Keswick). After approximately 1 mile take the second exit at the roundabout, sign posted A592, Ullswater. After approximately 3 miles you will come to a T junction where you will need to turn right. Follow this road for around 6.5 miles and you will find the Inn on the Lake on the left hand side shortly after entering Glenridding.
Public Transport: You can arrive by train at Penrith Station (three and a half hours from London, 2 hours from Newcastle or Manchester) and carry on to the Inn on the Lake by local bus or taxi.
