TROIA LINKS LEAPS INTO EUROPE’S TOP 10 P ortugal’s Troia Resort has further established itself among Europe’s elite golf courses by making an impressive nine-place climb to number eight in Golf World’s prestigious ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe 2019’ rankings. The stunning Robert Trent Jones Senior links made a sensational ascent up the rankings into Europe’s top 10, as golfers and industry experts finally rightly acknowledge one of Portugal’s best-kept secrets. Troia’s new ranking puts it among the top two in Portugal – an amazing feat considering the 6

A
mendoeira Golf Resort has introduced new longstay packages after fielding unprecedented interest from guests eager to get away for several months at a time. attanac Golf Resort, one of the most anticipated properties in Asia, has become the second Cambodian venue to join the Faldo Design portfolio, following the opening of the East Course. Measuring over 7,500 yards, the golf course has unique design features taking inspiration from the Bayon temple at Siem Reap, as well as actual on-course replicas of other pre-Angkorian structures, including the Preah Vihear and Angkor Wat, one of the largest religious monuments in the world. The design sets the innovation standard for golf in Cambodia, offering a unique combination of culture, leisure, and golf. Located only 20 kilometres from the centre of Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital, this is the first of two unique championshipstandard golf courses that will sit at the

heart of the luxury resort, with the West Course set to be completed later this year. Over the past decade, Cambodia has come into its own among Southeast Asia golf destinations, pairing championshipquality courses alongside the rich cultural attractions of the ancient Khmer civilizations, in addition to leisure activities and historical tours. Local identity was the focus for Sir Nick Faldo and his team during the design phase of this project. The end result is therefore made all the more impressive by the fact that during the first site visit, there was nothing but flat, featureless land within clay basins, requiring large scale earthworks that were initially hampered by severe flooding in 2013, delaying the East Course’s construction. Sir Nick Faldo commented: “I’m very proud to finally see this course open for play, delivering on the bold development vision we were tasked with. After what ISSUE 10
was a detailed and bespoke creative design process, I am confident it will offer a strategic and memorable test to players of all standards and I look forward to seeing the impact it makes on the region’s golfing landscape.� Since the opening of the East Course in May, it has become clear that Vattanac will eventually become a key competitor to Faldo’s additional Cambodian design, the award-winning Angkor Golf Resort in Siem Reap. UI, the world’s largest charter airline, has announced a new holiday destination for this season: Los Cabos, Mexico.
Starting in November, direct flights will be available twice weekly from London Gatwick to a vibrant destination famed for its warm sunny weather, world-class golf and spectacular Land’s End setting at the tip of the Baja Peninsula. With direct flights available to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, TUI (short for Tourism Union International) will offer the only direct flights to Los Cabos from the U.K.

West Course TPC Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Located in the lush hilltop setting of Bukit Kiara, TPC Kuala Lumpur is home to two courses, East and West. The 18 hole championship West Course underwent a redesign in 2007 that modernised the tournament play strategy. The most challenging hole on the course is the 16th, a risk versus reward decision that will make or break a player’s score on this driveable par 4.

Eden Course
Hong Kong Golf Club Since 1959 a hole named “The Ultimate” is the finisher for players every year at the Hong Kong Open, European Tour, and Asian Tour at the Hong Kong Golf Club. “The Ultimate” is the 18th hole on the world renowned Eden Course and is one of Asia’s most notorious holes. The 18th has resulted in drama, frustration, and some slight joy for those lucky players over the last six decades.

Voted best golf course in South East Asia, Sentosa Golf Club is the host of the well-known Singapore Open. The Serapong course underwent a huge revamp in 2007 that boosted configurations and bunker complexes. Additionally, the greens are now faster and even more challenging! The course is filled with huge lakes and incredible views making it a popular round for golfers all over the world.

Designed by Luke Donald, the world renown Ba Na Hills Golf Club located just outside the beautiful region of Da Nang has great hole variety with excellent greens and immaculate fairways. BUSHNELL PHANTOM GOLF GPS T
he Phantom GPS from Bushnell stands out from its competitors in a marketplace which is packed with products to satisfy the needs for golfers quest for lower scores. From the moment my Phantom arrived it oozes quality. The design is similar to the Neo Ghost model a previous model by Bushnell. With other GPS products ive used in the past the switch-on and setup has been quite a challenge but with the Phantom it’s pretty much ready to go out of the box. The free Bushnell App which you download to your Apple or Android phone is a superb tool which runs alongside the Phantom and comes with really usefull functions including hole fly overs and the ability to keep tally of your shots and putts. The Phantom comes preloaded with 36,000+ courses in more than 30 countries and includes either a clip attachment or a built-in magnet to attach right to your trolley or golf cart and a USB charger. So the Phantom’s first outing was at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club in Somerset, one of the UK’s best links courses and how grateful I was for having it. With blind shots on quite a few holes the combination of the easy to read Phantom along with the ability to measure distances to up to four hazzards and a hole fly over on the app gives you the conifdence you’ve pulled the right club from your

bag and allows you to concentrate on your swing. I’ve been using a laser rangfinder for a couple of years now but on this occasion the only time it came out of the bag was to compare yardage readings and the Phantom’s distances was on the money everytime. One of the best features of this product is its simplicity.
