Southport & Ainsdale Since its beginning in 1906, the Club has been held in high regard for the challenge it posed for both elite amateur and professional golfer. As early as 1914, it hosted the Lancashire Amateur championship, going on to host it 9 times, most recently 2009. Over the years the links has been played by some of the world’s greatest players. Jack Nicklaus, played his first overseas professional tournament, the Piccadilly tournament in 1962 at S&A. Peter Thompson, winner of 5 Open Championships, won the Piccadilly Tournament in 1962. Arnold Palmer played the Nine Nations, in 1965 representing USA.

It began hosting professional events in 1917, when J. H Taylor, Ted Ray and James Braid played an exhibition match to raise funds for the war effort to help wounded soldiers. This was the beginning of a long association with the professional game. The Club hosted many professional tournaments, in the formative years of what later became the European Tour. In the 1950’s it hosted the Dunlop 2000 Guineas tournament, one of the richest prizes in British golf.

Wallasey Golf CLub Home Of Stableford Wallasey was founded in 1891 by members from nearby Hoylake, perhaps because their links was becoming crowded or maybe because Wallasey was more convenient for the many Liverpool businessmen wanting to slip away to play golf.Tom Morris senior of St Andrews, four times Open champion, laid out the links. An 1893 newspaper comment that "...the greens were in excellent condition..." has been repeated continuously ever since.

Dr Frank Barney Gorton Stableford gave his name to the most popular points scoring system ever to be adopted. He was an excellent golfer and with a handicap of plus 1 in 1907 he won the club championship at Royal Porthcawl. Earlier he had served as a surgeon in the Royal Army Medical Corps, and spent some years in South Africa. Wallasey held the first Stableford competition on 16th May 1932, and it was an instant success. As an everlasting tribute to Dr Stableford, Wallasey introduced "The Frank Stableford Open Amateur Memorial Trophy" in 1969. Of course, the event is played as a Stableford, and it has become a major event in the amateur golfing calendar. For more details or to enquire, contact: info@golfingdays.co.uk

Hesketh Golf Club In recent years, Hesketh has been a breeding ground for a number of professional golfers. Two, Lee Slattery and Mathew Baldwin, are currently enjoying success on the European Tour, whilst two of their colleagues in the Hesketh scratch team some years ago, Mike Kanski and Martin Edge, are also locallybased professionals. Mike is now a well renowned putting coach and Martin is now the Secretary/Manager of Hesketh Golf Club.Professional golfers associated with Hesketh have experienced considerable tournament success with two former Assistant Pros, Tony Coop and Brian Waites (twice), winning on the European Tour. Lee Slattery became the Club's third European Tour winner when he won the Madrid Masters in 2011 and Russian Open in 2015.

Hesketh is the oldest golf club in Southport, established in 1885.Part links, part parkland sculpted through mature sand dunes, the club is set amongst the Victorian villas of the residential area of Churchtown, Southport.
