WHERE TO SAY “I DO”

THE DAWLEY BARN The walk to the Dawley Barn is almost as beautiful as the barn itself. Exposed wooden beams and stained glass windows decorate the walkway and can be adorned with flowers and personal touches, so the magic starts before you’ve entered the room.

Space for 120 guests Roaring original fireplace Rustic beams and brickwork Bright and spacious As the doors draw back, it’s hard to resist a gasp. The room makes a grand first impression, with all your guests standing there under the bright airy ceiling and twinkling fairy lights. The Dawley Barn is a listed building which has been elegantly converted into a unique private space. Much of the original architecture is still in place with exposed beams and brickwork and the original fireplace making for the cosiest of winter weddings. After the ceremony, you and your guests can celebrate with bubbles and canapés in the gardens or the Drawing Room, while we transform this space into your fairytale wedding reception.

OUTDOOR PAVILION On a warm sunny day, there’s only one place to get married – in our outdoor pavilion. Start your entrance from the drawing room and take the walk of a lifetime to where your partner eagerly awaits to meet and marry you. The beautiful garden pavilion is set in 63 acres of rolling Hampshire countryside, with the backdrop of our stunning 17th century country house. If you’re looking for that little something special to make your day truly stand out, this will do just that. The ornate structure offers the perfect place to say ‘I do’ in front of family and friends.

Our friendly and expert team of chefs will make it their mission to create a wedding breakfast that you and your guests will remember forever. From three-course menus, and sharing boards, to fish and chips and barbecues, you can put your own twist on the menu. The options are endless!

And as for the toasts, our bartenders have a list as long as their cocktail-shaking arms. From English sparkling wines and gin bars to non-alcoholic tipples made from personal recipes, we have something to suit every taste.

“ The team were absolutely fantastic - the service was impeccable all the way through. Our guests were commenting on the flow of dinner service (particularly the speed with which the glasses were being topped up), and they were excellent fun as the night progressed too. The conga line around the hotel is something we will remember for all of time. Lainston is a very special venue, you should all be proud of what you provide. ” - Mr and Mrs Armstrong

KATIE & CALUM THEIR STORY

Katie and Calum met at work and while it was not exactly love at first sight, after a year or two they finally decided to go for a drink. The rest, as they say, is history. While on holiday in Venice, Calum proposed to Katie in the middle of a peacefully quiet St Mark’s Square the night before Valentine’s Day. Here’s how their wedding went…

What did you love most about Lainston House? “We loved the fact that it felt as though we were having an amazing house party with all our family and friends. From the moment we came up the driveway we knew it was special! Having a good band really helped too.”

“We both felt so lucky to be looked after so well by the entire team at Lainston House”

Did you have a theme or particular style in mind to bring your day to life? “We tried to stick to a classic, elegant theme with a woodland feel. The ceremony room in the barn was filled with all the fantastic flowers and candles from our wonderful florist, Arcade Flowers, and stationery team, Laurel Designs. We also hired trees from the brilliant Twilight Trees, which helped to make the space so magical, alongside the fairy lights and carpet from Luminique and flower arch by Southampton Flower Wall. “We stuck to white flowers with touches of green which were so simple and beautiful. We didn’t really have a colour scheme so our bridesmaids wore beautiful silver dresses by Ghost London and our best men and ushers wore tuxedos.”

What do you remember most about the day itself? “They say your wedding really does go by in the blink of an eye and that was certainly the case for us. I remember all our family and friends partying the night away in the most beautiful venue.”

Tell us about the dress... “The dress was a white Pronovias gown and it really was my dream. It was the first dress I found at Anya Bridal who were so helpful and found me a beautiful matching veil. I felt like a princess all day.”

Were there any special moments or surprises? “I am not really one for surprises but there were some truly amazing moments. One of my favourites was the day before the wedding when we had our pre-wedding meeting with Sophie and Lewis followed by dinner in the Mountbatten room and drinks with all my lovely bridal party. Second to the wedding, it was one of my favourite days! “The menu tasting was also one of the best wedding planning moments we had. The food, service and weather (and wine!) made for one of the best evenings of 2021!”

What tips or advice would you give to future couples? “I think my advice would be stay calm and do not worry about the small stuff! The amazing team at Lainston House look after everything you could possibly think of on the day and they helped me to stay calm. It also rained all day on the day of our wedding and, in a way, it made it even more special. The cosy fires and gorgeous barn felt even more magical in the rain – although I cannot say the same for my hair in the pictures!

My second tip would be make sure you invest in an amazing photographer and videographer (if budget allows) to capture all the special memories. Our photographer was absolutely amazing! He felt like family by the end of the day and we did not want him to leave. The pictures he took are all so beautiful and we could not recommend him more. Our videographer was excellent and he really did capture the best footage!”
