Directory Editor’s Message It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 22nd Edition of the ISA Alberta Directory of Automation & Technical Handbook. This is a joint publication between the Edmonton and Calgary Sections of ISA. While the economy is in a downturn in Alberta, we hope to remain a key part of success in the Instrumentation and Automation field. We are pleased that we have had very positive feedback on our completely updated Directory website. I am sure that all users and advertisers will find it to be a very useful tool that will prove to make a significant contribution to everyone’s success. Our Students, Our Future
Welcome to the 2015/2016 ISA Alberta Directory of Automation. As we embark on a new year of ISA events, networking and education, we would be remiss not to reflect upon the Edmonton section 2014/2015 year. In an effort to build more value for ISA Edmonton Section members and to answer the question, “Why ISA?”, we hosted our first annual (and very successful) signature event and a series of sold-out technical presentations. We also launched a new website. The new design provides an intuitive and interactive layout with content relevant to our section’s members. If you have yet to visit the site, please do so at isaedmonton.org. Our new ISA Edmonton section app will be available in early 2016! This year our focus will be on students and student engagement within ISA. “Our Students, Our Future”, will be the driving force for a variety of section events and initiatives. To start, we’re kicking off the year with a Tailgate Pizza Party Student Membership Drive at NAIT and the U of A. With educational programs focused on industrial instrumentation and process control engineering, these two world-class institutions are creating the ISA members and automation experts of tomorrow. The Edmonton section is proud to be donating 200 free memberships to each institution. Additionally, the last several years have seen the rebirth of the student games in Alberta, with local Edmonton section games hosted by NAIT (with NAIT and U of A participants). This year’s competition will be exciting with Calgary teams in attendance, and with the opportunity for student members to be featured on our website. We would like to encourage our ISA Edmonton members to attend and cheer on the teams in October. The coming year also marks the inception of the ISA Edmonton Section Mentorship Program, established to help mentees build and grow a career in automation. The program will focus on a variety of personal or career development goals as needed. The ISA Edmonton Section will also present the 2016 Automation Expo and Conference (AEC) on April 20 & 21, 2016. AEC offers a variety of educational opportunities via the conference tracks for engineering, maintenance and operational staff from local industry, while showcasing leading technologies in the exhibition hall.
