As with any organization, of vital importance to the Saskatchewan Abilities Council is ensuring our clients, visitors and staff members have a safe environment in which to receive services and carry on business. It is important to us that our floor surfaces are free of tripping hazards, wetness, and that they can accommodate a variety of mobility equipment and needs. A study has been conducted to determine the cost benefits of adopting Waterhog Plus safety floor matting, including significant reductions in greenhouse has (GHG) emissions. Background CIBC is one of Canada’s 5 big banks with over 11 million clients, 40,000 employees and 1,100 Branches across Canada. CIBC has engaged 3rd party floor mat service providers to supply the Branches with industry standard matting. Each Branch uses on average 150 square feet of matting and the matting is exchanged out on an every week schedule. Traditional rental matting tends to be light weight with a tendency to distort causing the matting to develop bacon-like ripples. These ripples cause the matting to become a significant trip hazard. Executive Mat Service, a Canadian based floor mat service provider, has introduced an innovative service for the mat service industry. Executive Mat’s bi-level construction matting is made with 100% recycled fiber along with 90 mil nitrile rubber. The matting has been proven to outperform traditional matting in side-by-side testing.

Executive Mat has developed a new technology (CDF mat washer) for cleaning their bi-level matting that keeps the matting working and looking like new indefinitely. The CDF washes, sanitizes, dries and rolls the matting in one single operation while consuming 99% less water than traditional washing technology.
Extensive testing in the harshest environments has proven that the bilevel mat service is very effective on an every-four-week service schedule. This program produces significant cost reductions in addition to energy intensity reductions. CIBC Calculations: 1,100 Branches @ 150 ft2 / Branch = 165,000 ft2 Washed weekly = 165,000 x 52 = 8,580,000 ft2 per annum Bi-Level – CDF Program 165,000 ft2 x 13 changes = 2,145,000 ft2 /annum.
