10915 Camp Muir Court The new owners of this quiet home on Camp Muir Court have found their new private Idaho. Having traded a life in Rancho Mirage for Martis Camp, the home reflects their busy, international lifestyle and variety of interests. This peaceful home settles comfortably into its environment offering refuge and serenity. Entering the drive, which tucks the entrance to the home far from the roadway, immediately slows the pace of life. Guests are greeted by the beautiful and quiet entry located off of the hidden auto court. Granite pavers and columns at the entrance create an inviting entrance and provide continuity as they continue throughout the home to the elegantly expansive terraces. Walls of windows throughout showcase healing Nature views. Seating areas and fire pits invite owners and guests into the forest environment, albeit beautifully landscaped and manicured.
Twin Master Suites flank the main living areas providing family or guests personal space. Inviting cozy getaways and outdoor views, two additional bedrooms and a unique glassencased media room, which feels like a tree house, await atop the staircase. The owners’ art collection is incredibly diverse, exhibiting a curated approach to memorable moments in their lives. The sculpture in the entrance hall is by Marvin Schuler, whose works stand in the Smithsonian Art Museum among other renowned venues. Those from Carmel, California will likely recognize several antique pieces from the well-known shop, Luciano’s. Look for the Luciano’s collection which includes a trumpeting angel and Venetian urn on the bar, 17th century Iranian ceramics in the kitchen and a massive mirror hanging in the dining room.
In addition to the personal touches the art provides, the home furnishings add uniqueness. A garden-shop stone post embellished with fossil imprints makes a dramatic exclamation; animal prints mixed with graphics make for an eclectic collection fun to peruse. Adding a fresh touch to mountain décor, the dining table and chairs, bedroom furnishings, and upstairs sitting room are furnished by the internationally recognized and iconic 50-year-old San Francisco based furniture company, McGuire Furniture. The “McGuire style” lends a light informality with sophisticated color and depth upholstered in fabrics selected by Carmel based and internationally sought after designer, Roger Harned. Outside, originally an entertaining palazzo, the newly renovated guest cottage stands near but separate from the main home. With an abundance of windows and sunlight, it makes a superbly comfortable retreat for overnight or long-term guests.

10925 Camp Muir Court Situated precisely on the 2 acre homesite, “The Hermit is one of the more unusual structures in Martis Camp. Essentially placing the mule before the miner and snuggled into towering pines this home is actually the guest wing of the soon-to-be-built estate. Graceful curves cleverly constructed by skewed trusses accomplish design wizardry. Challenged by the owner to create a twisting roof using conventional materials, designer David Spears of Mountain Concepts delivered this first phase creatively, on time and on budget. Intentionally designed to look imperfect, corrugated metal siding and reclaimed Nevada barn wood envelope this camp style home. All wood, including any new rough-sawn timber and trim are organically treated (with LifetimeŽ Wood Treatment) and will never need to be retouched. Inside, radiant natural-gas heats the concrete floor throughout and scissor-trussed beams open the great room for boisterous, thespian mountain fun. The mantel over the stone fireplace is reclaimed from a California State Capitol building, and the hearth is tiered featuring seating and stage for extended family theatrical productions (the owner heads his own production company in Nevada). This current multi-use great room will
eventually become the estate’s rec room/trophy room slated to include the taxidermy collection the owner inherited from his father’s African safari collection. The current galley kitchen, with alder cabinets and granite counter, will become the rec room’s future wet bar. Anxious to get into the mountains and create memorable family escapes, ingenuity and rustic mountain style allow this 2032 sq. feet camp-home to sleep 19. There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor and 3 kid-approved bunk rooms which spy on the main floor below and are accessed by a ladder-style stair.
One wing of this home is occupied by the intimate master bedroom and bath, but for now, the entire structure is designed for bunkhouse efficiency. The large mountain campstyle bathroom features oversized communal sink (with its own shower wand) and connects shower and locker rooms. Stainless steel shower includes galvanized shower pulls and towel bars designed and hand crafted by the owner to complete the no-nonsense mountain gold-rush feel. Doors from the master bedroom, bathroom and shower room lead to the enclosed patio featuring hot tub and year-round outdoor shower (with heated drain to prevent icing).

10530 Olana Drive Designed to maximize the outdoor spaces, while offering privacy and seclusion, the entry to this home offers separation yet inclusion. The open entry creates privacy and separates the guest master suite and media room (to the left) from the main living and entertaining areas. The design of the entry offers a barrier from the noise of street traffic while creating an alcove for dining and an invitation to enjoy the quiet beauty of Lookout Mountain. Step through the entry to the right and be enchanted first by the view of Lookout Mountain and Hole 3 of the Martis Camp Golf Course. Weiland window-wall doors, essentially flush with the flooring surface at a mere 5/16-high base track disappear behind floor to stone ceiling fireplace, inviting owners and guests outside to enjoy the stone patio and fire pits. Custom sofa, chairs and coffee table, made in Montana by Epoch West, are protected from sun-fade by Lutron motorized shades, which also offer privacy and operate to regulate summertime heat gain. Western redwood ceiling connects the greatroom, kitchen and dining which all equally share the magnificent views. Just a few steps away, across the hand-scraped and pillowed, charactergrade hickory floors throughout the home, the dining area features a custom chandelier made in Mexico and round 100-inch diameter dining table which comfortably seats 12 and houses a retracting lazy-Susan. Wine Storage room, climate-controlled via iPad or iPhone holds 1500 bottles of wine. 22 Martis Camp Home Tour 2013
The kitchen, featuring leather-finished Mascarato granite and custom-crafted alder cabinets, opens directly to the outdoor covered dining and stone patio, made open to mountainside entertaining by breezeway sliding doors. The private patio, accessible by the master suite, is designed to include an outdoor spa.
Each of the three-ensuite bedrooms features individually designed cabinetry whose finishes are available only from Commercial Woodworking Company in Monterey, California. Each bath includes comfort in floor heating and specialized, coordinating granite.
The master suite is in itself a design marvel, offering at once spectacular views, privacy and access to the sequestered outdoor dining spaces. Master bedroom accent wall and the wood above the greatroom Weiland door are both made of ‘picklewood’ which is actually reclaimed redwood from 100-year-old pickle barrels. Behind a magnificent floor-to-ceiling barn door, the glass-enclosed walkway to the master suite opens to allow access between the outdoor dining and mountain views.
To the left of the entry are the Guest Master Suite and the Media room. Custom chairs with digital controls for individual cooling, reclining and sound make movie screening a personal and enjoyable experience. The media room offers a magnificent view of Lookout Mountain to be enjoyed between film screenings. Outside, Western Red Cedar siding is accented with picklewood and finished in colors chosen to meld into the colors of the surrounding trees. Colors, materials and design all snuggle this home into the site, a quiet statement of mountain bliss.

8645 Huntington Court Offering a residence proportionate in scale to the larger homes along the Championship Golf Course without sacrificing any charm and quality, this lovely home is situated on a cabin site along the Martis Camp putting course. The great room offers amazing space via vaulted ceilings and a tall floor-to-ceiling, two-story fireplace. A window wall allows light and nature to shower in keeping the connection between inside and out alive. The seating area of this great room is elegantly cool; the furniture complements this with clean lines and the plush corduroy of the couch is a steely blue fabric and carries the dĂŠcor. The art off
the entryway provides a warm welcome with exactly the right combination of texture and edginess. Earth tones match the décor with elegance and style. Two other pieces of contemporary art on the end of the living room that gracefully leads to the master suite are well-chosen. The master bedroom is embraced in nature by a wall of wrapping around the room adding a feeling of glamorous camping. Warm, spacious and subtle, colors enhance the cozy openness. The master bath is a beautiful mix of old and new with marble complementing wood tones. Subway tiles have been set in a new mini-style to mix well with the classic marble counter. The cabinets have a retro but modern appeal. A freestanding bathtub finishes the scene with cozy cabin-like wood surrounding it. The second master is similarly well appointed with a wrap around wall of windows, stunning bath, and patio.
The catwalk suspended above the great room further lends a contemporary feel of this two-story setup. A desk and work area peer over the promenade blending style with functionality. Upstairs the TV and Reading Room feature walls adorned with art offering an abundance of natural light. The guestroom’s vine design fabrics that echo and calls to a soulful experience of the outdoors though the private deck. The child’s bedroom invites many sleepover guests to share revel in the color play of various shades of blue and green. The kitchen has everything a chef would need but the minimal decor keeps the mood calm and collected in sync with the rest of the home. The over scale bar has two levels, each with a surface of different stone accommodating seated guests and standing cooks. The adjacent banquette is a favorite and an inviting place to enjoy conversation, delicious food, open views and cozy cushions.

8818 Olana Drive Conservation was top priority for the 11,000 sq. ft. estate. “The last thing I wanted was for the structure…to compete with the beauty of the space and that view,” said the owner. The solution was to design the home to look like a series of cabins nestled into nature, yet to take full advantage of the mountain views. Instructed to conserve the trees, maximize the view and utilize nature’s heating and cooling resources, Nick Sonder, AIA, used 3D modeling program to place the structure within Nature’s embrace. Only 5 trees were lost in the building of this estate; one extreme design solution was to shunt the master wing (with golf simulator) to the southern end of the property and connect it by a bridge which saved a designated tree. The home’s driveway houses several 220-foot deep geothermal wells; sunlight is harvested through a thin film photovoltaic solar system and hidden from the roadside thus maximizing yield on the south-facing roof aspects. Through his iPad, or any of the iTouch units in each room of the home, the owner can control the low-consumption/high output LED lights throughout the home and radiant floor heating and security system. Almost a part of nature, the Silver LEED certification is evident in the deep winter’s highest utility bill of $29/month. The custom-crafted mahogany front door (8’ high, 4” thick with custom millwork) opens to reveal an unobstructed view of Sawtooth and Lookout Mountains and the Martis Camp Golf
Course. The owner requested that great room, kitchen and dining rooms flow effortlessly for their guests allowing them to enjoy each other, the beautiful mountain views and have easy access to the outdoor spaces. To the right as you enter, the kitchen features custom mahogany and steel inlay cabinets and leathered granite counters and just steps away the octagonal dining room holds the custom table which seats 16 and is crowned by a custom chandelier. These rooms are further connected by custom mahogany trusses, steel knife plate supports and custom millwork. Tucked behind the kitchen, a breakfast nook also houses custom table and seating by Truckee’s MD Contracting & Sierra Mill Works; the hallway leads to the necessary rooms: pantry, oversized laundry and attached garages. To the left, another octagonal feature houses the three-story spiral staircase of Brazilian cherry wood each tread accentuated by indirect LED lighting. Ascending the staircase will lead to the bridge to the office, the Master Wing and golf simulator room. Unilux windows throughout, especially on this catwalk, bring in fresh mountain breezes and keep out the cold. Additionally, there are 6 other ensuite bedrooms most with balconies or patios open to the mountain views. All railings and steelwork are custom including a chandelier designed by Anna Lambiotte. The owner’s office, with expansive mountain views is complete with custom feathered-mahogany desk top, nook made private by sliding barn door.
Descend the staircase to access the lower level for even more enjoyment, leading to the “Tavern” and game room, including full wet bar which connects directly to the outdoor spa, seating 16, and water features. “I would call this Transitional Mountain Style,” designer Anna Lambiotte explains. “The owner wanted to live with bright colors and fun, contemporary finishes, like the Eames chairs in the great room and the modern fixtures in the baths.” Bits of red and rich yet subtle greens and blues are placed throughout the home; bedrooms and bathrooms are color-themed. Bath and powder rooms each have unique features: from natural sea glass to a pebble-walled powder room to the lower level’s vibrant red sink and custom-designed wood block wall by Anna.

8600 Benvenuto Court Welcoming to friends and family alike, this home and property offers spaces appropriate for an evening of entertaining or long-term stay. The inviting nature of this home begins with the first encounter with a tall covered entryway and a chairlift seat just inside. Upon entering the home, the large scale great room is well suited for the family and guests. Activities abound throughout the room and the main floor giving way to fun and casual elements including a seating area around the hearth and a window wall that brings with it an abundance of natural light. A game table, separate lounge chairs and seating areas provide ample elbowroom for independent activities without sacrificing proximity. Entertaining is a joy in this open kitchen with an extra-large island giving way to a 10-person dining room table and a patio with outdoor seating, firepit and cooking areas.
Four bedrooms, including the master and junior suite, flank the great room providing an easy and natural flow. A whimsical fifth bedroom is found upstairs featuring bunk and twin beds with football-shaped beanbag and wall-hung quilts. The large screen television completes this kid’s paradise. Painted furniture throughout warms the large spaces and underscores some of the more casual uses of the home. One bedroom, in particular, embodies this through brightly painted whimsical touches on the furniture. The larger guest bedroom incorporates floral, plaid and stripe materials in cool blue-green tones and an ensuite bath. Another guest room directly off the kitchen with touches of red, plaid and a painted dresser make it more casual retreat option for a guest.
