concept. the concept was inspired of the waves of romblon, flowing and dancing free from any limitation. The performance theater was supposed to create that environment for the performers to be able to dance and express themselves freely. In terms of the structure. it is oriented in such a way that natural light was considered but the light had to not penetrate the inside of the theater which could disrupt the quality of the performance. ROMBLON The site is located in Romblon. The project was to create a community theater which will showcase the dance or performances the city is known for. The size of spaces were considered depending on what kind of performance the community is famous for. In this case Romblon does hosts the MIMAROPA festival, this required bigger spaces. The proposed theater has a deck outside in which the performers could dance as well as a stage indoors. The theater also has a restaurant on the top most floor where visitors can eat and

dine while looking at the sea. It serves as a tourist spot where tourists can have the full experience of what Romblon is and its delicacies. Tourists or guests can experience Romblon as a whole and not just the performance as the structure offers more than just a mere venue for the performers. The outdoor area serves as park where people can meet and socialize.
floor plans. First floor is where everything happens, orange represents the commercial spaces where visitors can buy their food as well as their souveniers. Blue is where the seats are, where the audience stay to watch the performance. Purple is the stage where the performers perform and green is the colour for the utility spaces The second floor is mainly additional seating for the audience with male and female toilets. The red space is an area for views and gaze upon the whole of romblon. The third floor is solely for the restaurant as this allows the visitors to dine whilst gazing at the romblon’s ocean view. The structure was oriented this way due to the context of the site, The wind that flows from the sea to the site pushes the cold air molecules to the site which allows the cold breeze which originated from the sea to cool the users who are using the outdoor park 10 | Architectural Portfolio
site dev elopment plan. The site is surrounded with romblon’s waters, this created opportunities from windflow, to tourism due to the view the users could see. The outdoor park is accessible for all whilst the performance center itself isnt. Its a mix of public and private spaces, the area can be a tourist spot, Architectuural Portfolio | 11

WALK-UP APARTMENT The building was inspired trellises to control the amount of from the recycle symbol which light and heat that goes on. is known all over the globe. Its supposed to be a voice, a statement to advocate sustainability. The structure is split into three buildings just like the logo with three curved arrows, it is oriented in such a way where the north east wind goes through the enarrow opening and follows the venturi effect. The use of large windows maximized the natural light that is penetrating the structure with Architectuural Portfolio | 13

The strucuture’s ventillation inside makes use of the Venturi effect, how wind would flow from the north east as well as the south west to a small opening which will maximize the air flow. The solar panels on top of the structure is also oriented in such a way that it will catch most solar energy during the wholee day.

BUTTERFLY The structure was inspired from a butter ly, the papilio antimachus to be more specific, it is one of the longest butterfly in the world and its supposed to symbolize the life of the client who is legally blind and has myopia, the client want to be more independent so by creating a house for the client which will aid him in maneuvering around the
house smoothly. Just like a butterfly, limited when it was a caterpillar and non-static during while in its cacoon but free and is able to spread its wings when turned into a butterfly. To go beyond the clients limitation and be free

The structure also facing perpendicular to the windpath so that the client can feel the wind and rely on his senses to help determine where he is. This is due to the fact that the client is legally blind and can only see shapes and shadows and can only see not beyond two meters. 22 | Architectural Portfolio
The structure is oriented with high regards to the wind path as well as the sun path due to the fact that the client has myopia and is legally blind, by maximizing the amount of light that is penetrating the building allows the client to feel and see better compared to a poorly lit space Architectuural Portfolio | 23

LILIPAD
REDEVELOPMENT OF MANILA AIRPORT TERMINAL 4
The form was inspired from the fusion of the skeletal system of the phiilippine eagle and at its core is the circle of willis from the human brain. The skeletal system is the “backbone” and that is what an airport is , a backbone in whihc it helps people too get from Point A to Point B, it creates the posibillity for its functionality, without airports, runways,
or terminals. Planes wouldn’t have a place to land thus causing great difficulty as well as cause accidents. The circle of wilis is a space in which it is the joining area of several arteries and that serves as the atrium of the sturcture enabling light to pass. Moreover, the title LILIPAD is defined as “to fly” in tagalog, flying to reach even greater heights. Architectuural Portfolio | 25

Outdoor spaces where people from any social class can interact It has enough space for performers to perform and is oriented away from the stadium which is the place where it is most noisy. The purpose of wide spaces for the public is so that people can experience how theater feels like or music that just embraces an individual and transports them into a different world. The form of the structure came from the soundwaves which was produced by a segment of the song Bongga Ka “Day. It the soundwaves were duplicated three times but with different octaves which creates that repeating curled lines. The geodesic dome is also part of the segment of the song. MALAYA DONSOL WHALE SHARK RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION CENTRE The aim for the project and thesis proposal was to use materials that are native to the site or locality to reduce the environmental impact while constructing the building, whilst considering the strength and capabilities of the materials.
The project aims to benefit not only the whale sharks but also the municipality’s economy, unemployment rates, the collaborative research that is being done to understand whale sharks even more and to create a more self-sufficient community at the same time The approach and goal for the uplift the community as well as project is to use materials which improve their quality of living. would produce the least carbon footprint as well as solutions which promotes passive cooling rather than active cooling. The solutions presented also considers the orientation of the building as well as the site’s analysis and climatic factors. The project’s goal is to create an environment where the community will be able to learn as well as be aware of the importance of whale sharks today and they currently stand. site section Creating a space that reminds people about the feeling of nature that is fused architecture. The structure would stand out which would eventually create awareness apart from the knowledge that can be gathered in every structure. The structure itself shouts whale shark and speaks for the whale sharks as well as the community of Donsol through architecture. The facility aims to help Donsol to decrease unemployment rates as well as create livelihood for the locals of Donsol. The facility is mostly targeted towards ecotourists, which 40 | Architectural Portfolio
is different from tourists, where ecotourists are tourists that are invested in learning more about the area they went to in this case Donsol as well as Whale Sharks. The facility aims to improve tourism in Donsol and set the standards for sustainable whale shark tourism not just limited to philippines.

floor plans. Ecotourism building is the building where most people would enter first. It functions as the main building in the facility. The ecotourism building houses spaces for the library, where the library would have books, journals, reaserch regarding whale shark history and information. It also contains a session hall for opportuinities such as seminars or talks by professionals who specializes in that field such as marine biologists who specializes in whale sharks. The ecotourism building is mainly made out of concrete and acrylic panels. Acrylic panels as roofing material for the structure due to the
fact that acrylic panels are flexible and does not cause chaulking unlike aluminum panels due to the salt water from the ocean. The structure uses pile foundation due to the kind of soil being silvanna clay. The structure also features, an indoor feel of the outside, bringing the outside environment, indoors where tourists would feel as if they’re walking outside due to the amount of greenery inside. It mimics nature in its purest form. The trees used are from the site which means there is minimal trees that are desposed of, the trees are used as materials for the building or replants or relocated. Architectuural Portfolio | 43

“ Architecture is v isual art, and the buildings speak for themselves”. -Julia Morgan As what Julia Morgan said, reflect the movements “architecture is visual and behaviour of whale art and buildings speak sharks. for themselves”. Being able to actively promote something, it must speak for itself, it is like mannerism architecture how the structures were built, not only just stand out through its hyperidealization, unorganized compositions, and erratic lines but also to voice out. Structures act as voices and non-living advocates.
