The exact timing has yet to be announced, but retailers should make sure they’re up to speed on the latest titles, ready for when the ultra-powerful gaming machine hits shelves in the run-up to the festive season. Microsoft and video game developer 343 Industries had been planning to launch the Xbox Series X and the first-person shooter game Halo Infinite – due to be published by Xbox Game Studios – simultaneously this autumn, but, sadly, due to the Covid-19 crisis, the title’s release date has now been pushed back until 2021. ASSASSIN’S CREED VALHALLA Well-known video game developer Ubisoft has announced that the next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, will be released worldwide on November 17 this year.
It will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store on Windows PC, as well as on Uplay+, (Ubisoft’s subscription service), and Google’s cloud gaming service Stadia. The ambitious, action role-playing adventure will also be available for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 when the consoles launch later this year. In addition to all the Viking pillaging, there is also the ability for players to customise their character’s hair, tattoos, war paint, weapons and gear, as well as switch between a male or female Eivor at any time. WATCHDOGS: LEGION Another title coming from Ubisoft this year is Watchdogs: Legion. Set in London, in the not-too-distant (distopian) future, players can join forces with up to three friends, as they form a resistance movement to take on a powerful crime syndicate preying on the vulnerable. Watchdogs: Legion is said to offer a “neverbefore-seen” level of gaming innovation that allows players to recruit and play as anyone they see in the iconic city, from an MI5 agent to a tough bareknuckle fighter, a brilliant hacker or illegal street racer. FABLE Other titles on the list for Xbox Series X are Fable (Playground Games / Xbox Game Studios), a reboot of the popular magical
roleplaying adventure franchise – watch out for frogs and fairies! – and fantasy epic Avowed (Xbox Game Studios / Obsidian). Full of magic and mysterious creatures, this game is set in the world of Eora, home of Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity games. STATE OF DECAY 3 Microsoft has also revealed that the latest entry in the zombie-survival action game series State of Decay 3 is on the way from Undead Labs / Xbox Game Studios. It’s set to be an Xbox Series X console exclusive, but will also be available for Windows. FORZA HORIZON 4 If you’re lucky enough to survive the zombie apocalypse, you might want something a little more scenic to enjoy.
