Google, Yahoo make phone numbers mandatory for new email IDs A new compulsion which has been brought about by Google and Yahoo is the insistence of providing a telephone number while creating an email id for avoiding spams. If a person would like to create a new email id, they will have to provide a telephone number which Gmail and Yahoo will use for verification. While Gmail users have an option to give either a telephone or mobile number, Yahoo has made mobile phone number mandatory for its mail users. However, the Internet Service Providers Association of India has said that there is no regulatory requirement for making telephone number mandatory for having an email address and condemned the move as such practice could expose privacy of an individual.
Dell is working on A mood-reading software These days, Dell is working on software for existing brain-reading headsets that can accurately identify a user’s mood. The company could be releasing this mood-reading app as soon as 2017. The head of research and development at Dell; Mr Jai Menon has said that the company’s mood-reading tech has applications both at home and in the workplace could definitely get to be a little worrying. It is quite scary to think that you can’t pretend you’re happy and productive whenever the boss walks by. The price range could be from anywhere between $100 to $200. Once the technology has been developed thoroughly, we can see many companies investing in them and purchasing them in bulk for the welfare of the company. It also has the capacity to administer workers a small electric shock if they tend to take to many breaks whilst working.

Conversations have been put off between the two and somehow, Alibaba’s interest in Snapchat has disappeared. The Chinese e-commerce giant is getting ready for its IPO launch in September on the New York Stock Exchange. Snapchat had also turned down the $3 billion acquisition offer from Facebook last year as well. Snapchat is still taking steps to raise financing.

Fenix for Twitter
QuizUp
Fenix for Twitter might be one those few apps that has actually gained notice even in its development stage. There might be tons of apps for Twitter but this one has what it takes, to stand out from all of them. The few specialities it includes would be the fact that the links are clickable in the timeline itself. There is also an Inline preview of images and YouTube videos. For colour, you have the usual dark and light themes. You even get an optional internal browser and it also easy to access all your lists and saved searches. Some other noticeable features would be that you can now copy, share, translate or delete a DM too. Editing and managing lists has also been integrated really well. Overall, the app looks very neat and clean. It gives Twitter a new feel.
Here’s the multiplayer online game that has gone viral in the few short weeks it has been on the Play Store. By answering a few trivia questions, you can beat players playing from all over the world – or challenge your Facebook/Google friends who have installed the app on their phones. Digital Connect EXPERT SPEAK Well known blogger Tushar Kanwar has tested all these apps and recommends them highly for their overall functionality and advantages they offer over other apps. He also suggests updating all apps on a regular basis to make full use of all the features and the developer improvements that will give an end-user a better user experience.
Google URL Shortener
FitBit
Easy to use and share the shortened links with, the app is exactly what most people were looking for who wanted to share links where character limits was a curse – i.e. other apps like Twitter. Once you’ve shared a link, Google’s URL shortener also offers colorful analytics to show which links are shared the most and why. You can also use the app to check out analytics for any other URL that’s been shortened by Google. The Google URL shortener app requires Android 4.0 and up. It’s optimized for smartphones with a single column UI, while 7-inch and 10-inch tablets will show the same data in two or three columns of sleek information cards. You can also save and access data offline, in case you need to recheck a specific figure, and even look back at your link-shortening history.
The Fitbit app uses Bluetooth to automatically and wirelessly sync your tracker’s data, so you can see your latest stats, charts, and graphs on your smartphone. Once paired, you can calculate even the steps you have taken to the distance you have travelled and even to the calories you have burned. With a smartphone, you can record sleep, set silent wake alarms directly from the app, and track your sleep trends. The Fitbit app can set a calorie intake plan that is personalized to your profile and daily activities. According to your food chart, it will tell you exactly how many calories have you consumed. Being fit has an all new meaning.

State of the Display Market ---Written by Tushar Kanwar, Tech Blogger.
31 countries, 64 matches across 12 cities – if the existing lineup of sports didn’t give you a reason to pick up the latest greatest TVs, the World Cup surely will! That said, if you haven’t picked up a TV in a while, there is a dazzling array of new tech to deal with – here’s our primer on how the bleeding edge of TV tech is changing the way you watch content. Not to mention making that LCD in your living room…obsolete! go

Dangerous Curves:
Pixel Packing:
Smart(er) TVs:
The flat screen had a good run as the de facto TV form factor – it can hang on walls, occupy a smaller footprint and give you all the large-screen goodness you want. All that is set to change with 2014 fast becoming the year of curved TVs that promise a better viewing experience, if you go by the recent launches by LG, Samsung and Panasonic. Think about it, with a curved TV, not only do you reduce the amount of glare on your screen, you also improve the visibility for people sitting to the sides of the TV set, say at a crowded late night match viewing! Watched alone, the effect of these TVs is a more immersive experience, similar to an IMAX screen. Oh, and of course, you can fit a bigger TV without needing a bigger wall!
TV brands are leaning in heavy on 4K – the ultra high-definition screens that pack in four times the resolution of current Full HD TVs – this year, with the promise of a crystal clear picture that, some say, can make your TV look like a window! But high prices (sets typically start at upwards of 1.5 lakhs) and limited amounts of 4K content have slowed adoption of the sets. But all that is set to change with the sheer number of flagship smartphones that are packing in 4K recording capabilities this year, not to mention Google announcing a new 4K streaming format (VP9) that would cut in half the bandwidth necessary to stream 4k from sites like YouTube!
Smart TVs with Internet connectivity, apps and Skype capabilities have been around for a while, but third party offerings such as Apple TV, Chromecast and a number of media players have been offering a compelling proposition at TV-friendly user interfaces, not to mention you can easily connect your iOS/Android tablet to the TV as well. This year, TV makers are taking a fresh stab at the smart TV concept, with LG announcing use of its acquired WebOS (the old Palm mobile software) as the platform for its TVs, and Firefox working closely with Panasonic to bring a version of Firefox OS to TVs.

Laptops and Tablets –
What’s Next - Written by Tushar Kanwar, Tech Blogger.
It only seems like yesterday when our concept of computing were these bulky beige boxes, and quite literally overnight, we playing with ultra-light sleek laptops and tablets that go everywhere we go and expect little to no compro-
4K Everywhere With the advent of 4K recording devices in your pocket such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2, the explosion of 4K content might just start at home, instead of waiting for TV channels and content providers to wake up to this trend and deliver. Qualcomm’s already shown off the SnapDragon 805 chip which enables 4K displays and is expected to hit tablets by this year end. Beyond displays, tablets by the turn of this year will be packing in next-generation console level graphics processing – that’s X-Box One or PS4 level games in your backpack!
No Cables At the recently concluded Computex expo, Intel showed off a reference design called Skylake, a PC that charges wirelessly when placed on a table, and the wireless charging provides enough power to charge a phone and tablet as well. It’s part of the Alliance For Wireless Power’s (A4WP) initiative, which now supports laptops and tablets. With Dell, Fujitsu and Lenovo set to join the consortium, you’re looking at laptops and tablets that don’t pack any ports. Yes, none at all – with A4WP, the last piece of the puzzle (display, network and data transfer) will fall in place – Skylake uses the the WiGig standard to connect with a wireless dock, transferring data at up to 7 Gbps, and we have already seen Wireless Display at work, streaming content onto TVs and monitors.
mises when doing so, be it in terms of power, battery life or breadth of applications. But is this the end of the road for innovation in this segment? Far from it – read ahead to see what’s in store for our favorite portables.
Multiple Screens Imagine taking that multi-monitor setup that you have at work and taking it everywhere you go! I mean, who wouldn’t benefit from having two screens on their laptop – for presentations, multitasking, etc. Sure, there have been special laptops in the past that used two separate screens, but they were too expensive and big to be practical. With the work being done on flexible displays, it isn’t entirely unforeseeable a future where two flexible super-thin 11- or 13inch screens will unfold out of your laptop to form one large display.
Bigger, better Chromebooks Until recently, all Chromebooks had been using ARMbased chips or used Intel’s Celeron processor and, by nature of these chips, were never considered powerful laptop/desktop class CPUs. Only recently has Intel started pushing its Core series of laptop chips into Chromebooks, making these thin and light machines very viable machines for those who don’t need the whole Windows deal –for a lot of consumers, Chromebooks are all they really need since most of what they do today is via Web browsers and there are a lot of Web apps that replace dedicated apps they might have used in the past on Windows laptops.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS We had purchased a LG AC last year and, additionally, we had opted for Reliance’s care plan as well. In the month of March, and we had some issues with our AC and had initially contacted the customer care. However, there was no response .The issue was escalated and reached Mr Rama Rao. He followed up on the issue and ensured that the technicians were sent for repair within 24 hours. In-spite of being on his day off he worked to get this resolved and followed up with us after the technician’s visit. His professionalism is really appreciated and it's this kind of service oriented attitude from your employee’s that wants us to come back for more. Please convey our appreciation to Mr Rama Rao. - Paramjit Kumar / RenuVirdi Kumar With reference to the service provided by your Technician Mr. Ramji Mishra I feel it important to inform you that the activities have been carried out with my entire satisfaction. As such I have found your Mr.Mishra as a Sincere, focused and result oriented person which is a prerequisite for the nature of service being provided by you. - Subhasis Das

Appreciate Sharanya (customer support, Maddenaguda, Hyderabad) and Shoukat(service engineer) and Ajay(customer support team) for understanding the issue and providing support.” - Sai Karunakar.A This has ref to my visit to your store located at Mani Square on 26 April, 2014 regarding the reset of iCloud password for the iPad purchased by me from your store in the month of Dec '13. I had forgotten the password and hence was unable to accessthe iCloud or any other utilities concerning the password. Your store officials attached to Apple gave a sincere try but in vain, so did the others officials present there. It was decided that the iPad be taken to Apple Service Centre at City Centre 1
to reset the iPad to the factory setting. I was warned of the complete loss of data in the iPad. In order to get the iPad reset, I was asked to carry the bill for iPad which I may have misplaced due to the recent shifting of my flat. In order to avail of the duplicate bill from your store, I was asked to submit an application mentioning the date of purchase of the iPad which was forgotten by me. The process that was explained to me was very cumbersome, wherein I was asked to make an application through email with the exact date of purchase of the iPad and the duplicate bill would be issued only after one long week. Even the cashiers gave a sincere effort but to no avail! Your official Sri Mohammad Ali, when he came to know about the incident, immediately asked me to put an application in writing for issuance of the duplicate bill and in two minutes retrieved the bill for the iPad using my cell number!!! That was very impressive, as the long process was evaded!!! I thanked him sincerely for his effort and endeavour.
I am writing about the installation and setup of the two air conditioners done in my apartment by engineer - ShahnvajAalam and his assistant Sahid Raza. I want to appreciate the work done by both of them. They both were in here in the afternoon and left only after both the ACs were setup and were working well. Good job done by both. Secondly, Sri Mohammad Ali took my iPad and asked me to answer the password retrieval questions which I did and in few minutes the password was reset. I had spent almost 3 hours for the above process but my problems were solved by Sri Mohammad Ali in the last half an hour. I place on record my sincere appreciation for the effort and endeavour of Sri Mohammad Ali in solving the problems of your customers like me with so much of enthusiasm and zeal in the present day when the market is so competitive and quality of service if so important in retaining your clientele. Nokia partnered with Microsoft for the Windows Phone platform which invited a lot of speculations if it would ever bet on Android. Or will it always stay Windows way, but finally, Nokia X came into the picture and rejoiced Nokia’s loyal users who wanted to have an Android experience on Nokia devices. With the X, Nokia brought out the new flavour of OS for users and i.e. the amalgamation of Windows Phone and Android. Android players who thought that Nokia would never go the Android way must have received a jolt with the X in the picture. The device can surely be a game-changer for the Finnish brand, if received well by consumers. The Nokia X series was well received with the public and the player has marked its entry back in the mobile OS industry by giving tough competition to the rather popular Android platform.

Reliance Digital
THE STORY The pace of technology is accelerating at such a rate, it becomes near impossible at times to keep track of it. Sure, you can do your research online and then find the right gadget you wish to buy at the right price – but isn’t it always better to see things with your own eyes? What if you could walk into a store catering to technology and gadgets, and also offering you, ideas and solutions that will make your life all that much better? There is a time for every idea and for Reliance Digital, India’s retail revolution made all the difference. In the early days, there were many local players. There wasn’t any national player.
It was all about Sell! Sell! Sell! It was all about Product! Product! Product!
Today… It’s all about customer experience. It’s all about interactivity It’s all about convergence. Yet, there were some questions to be asked.
“Today we are India’s leading electronics and home appliances retailer. Being a leader, we shoulder the responsibility of continuously evolving and delivering an experience that is at par and eventually “even better” than what exists anywhere across the globe. To attain a sustainable growth, it would be possible only when our customers find us contributing to their life, and in many ways to their success. At the core of everything we do, at Reliance Digital, is our customer mindset, ….“we are at your service”.

But what if there was a technology that made all technologies one? India needed one big brand to unite electronic brands of all shapes, sizes and services under one roof. The first Reliance Digital Store was opened on April 24, 2007 in Delhi.

Digital Dent Reliance is the latest in a string of companies planning microstores.Reliance Digital Stores has launched a new format in its umbrella called Digital Xpress Mini. The new concept, Digital Xpress Mini, is aimed at providing a differentiated technology shopping experience to consumers and thereby reinforcing Reliance Digital’s position as a front-runner in the emerging mobile retail segment. The mobile phone and tablet retailing business is volume-led and margins are very low hence it makes sense for retailers and brands to open more number of smaller stores where operating expenses such as rentals are low and can employ skeletal staff. The gross margin in mobile phones and tablets is just 6-7% as compared to 15-18% in TVs and appliances such as refrigerators. Hence, the viability of smaller stores is much more than the large format outlets. These stores will be about 250 square feet and sell the upcoming services of Reliance Jio Infocomm in near future. The spread of stores will be massive in the year 2014 , aiming to set up a little more than 2000 stores spread across the pockets of the country. The stores will be very strategically placed to serve the deeper pockets of the country by being “at your service”.
“quote unquote” Avinash Pereira Head of operations “With a pan-India presence, we have a great opportunity to engage and serve a lot of customers. We find different markets behave differently. Customer needs and expectations vary. And everyday we learn more and more about our customers. De-coding The Art
The Accessories
Other Gadgets
Any photographer is incomplete without his collection of digital cameras and various lenses. It goes without a doubt that he carries a variety of cameras for his assignments. Talking about his favourites; his all-time favourite camera is in fact the Hasselblad H3D which has a whooping 39MP sensor. He likes his shots to be crystal clear. The other cameras that he uses are the Sony Alpha 7R and Sony Alpha A99. We did notice a trend here. He also owns and adores the Sony Alpha A77, A55 and A900. He had many others in mind too. Maybe this is what happens when you ask a photographer about his passion.
He is also a fan of accessories. He has variety of them but honestly speaking, he likes all the ones he uses with his kits. When we dug deeper, we got the impression that he even has a favourite memory card for all his cameras. He thinks the Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC Memory Card works well and works flawlessly. A man dealing with over 1 thousand photographs daily needs an accessary super quick as well. It serves the purpose.
He enjoys the occasional photography on his Samsung Galaxy Note 3. But of course it would be in no comparison with the DSLR line-up. The man does enjoy a bit of groove whilst working. He isn’t too comfortable using headphones for music but he does enjoy it on his Bose Lifestyle 535 Series II Home Theatre System and a Sony Shake-6D Audio System as well.

Moving away from the camera, at leisure, he uses the Alienware as his preferred laptop. But when on to some hard-care work with the Hasselblad, he prefers using the Macbook Pro.
