FROM THE FOUNDER’S DESK
This issue is to celebrate something very special, to celebrate, People. But no ordinary people, to celebrate People who dare to think differently, Dare to innovate, People who dare to take risks, People who enjoy challenges and savor competition. The ones who not just identify opportunities, but also create them. This Special issue is to celebrate entrepreneurs and it’s our inaugural year book for Hottest Tech Startups in India . Startup ---- a riveting roller coaster filled with tremendous highs and lows. It always begins with a good-innovative idea. But coming up with a good idea is not good enough, it further requires a great plan and even greater implementation. According to a recent stats around 12.5% of the working population of India is engaged in opportunity-based ventures, which is the highest, if compared to any other developing economy around the world. Which means that we have a huge force rather an entire generation of young entrepreneurs, who are constantly identifying and creating innovative business opportunities. And this issue is a result of our 3-month work which concluded on 9th of March at Courtyard Marriott Mumbai. I wish each and every one of you reading this could have been present with us on 9th of March when a new world was being shaped by fresh and energetic startups. I know that’s practically not possible, that’s why we have the best scoop for you televised and you can catch it on NDTV on the 11th of April at 12:30pm and a re-run on the 12th of April at 6:30pm. We shortlisted the Exhibit Top 100 Tech Startups on the basis of their company background, their charisma and will to innovate and of course, scaling up potential and that they should have been formed in the year 2014. This would definitely have not been possible without our partners TIE, IAN and NASSCOM and our Sponsors Gionee, JBL & IBM. The Top 22 were given an opportunity to pitch in front
of a respectable Jury Panel which comprised of Top Indian VCs and HNIs.Further from these Top 22 Startups, the Jury ranked Top 3 on various parameters like the founders’ background, scalibility of the idea and the quality of the pitch - and finally Haptik, Baby Chakra and Muzenly, came out winners amongst the participants. Startups are young and filled with potential which needs to be directed on the right path, for this we had with us Mr. Anupam Mittal who is the CEO of People’s Group and the founder of Shaadi.com. The entire audience were enlightened by a fabulous speech by him and short Q&A round. The Exhibit 100 Hottest Tech Startups can be regarded as one of the most effective startup meets as all the startups experienced great exposure. It was a great networking opportunity for majority of them as the best in the industry were willing to talk over lunch and tea breaks. We, had a single propaganda throughout the event – he who is an entrepreneur is already a winner. So all you startups out there, we welcome you for the next year as we wait to mine diamonds again. Enjoy the issue and take your pick as to what is going to be the Next Billion Dollar Idea. And yes Its not only all pitches, since the issue goes on print and other VCs are doing their due diligence, we have already funded Fone Spa and come on board as a Co-founder with 50% Equity. So that’s that.

eKincare Founder: Kiran K Kalakuntla Idea – Everyone has health records; records from a recent lab test, notes from a doctor visit or maybe an old prescription. Doctors need to know what you are allergic to , history from lab results and your current medication before taking a decision. In order to identify the disease correctly and provide better treatment they need more data which results in multiple tests and multiple records scattered everywhere. And when the time comes for us to locate a particular record/prescription we run all over the place trying to locate it. And imagine the agony one has to go through when one has to narrate the entire medical history and medication information repeatedly while visiting multiple practitioners? A more important point to ponder about when it comes to healthcare is why is it that in the age of evernote, google analytics and cloud storage we store our most critical information in the form of paper? Why not harness this data to detect chronic diseases early and define a healthier future. What if doctors had a cheat sheet of your medical history and a graph of all your lab results to detect chronic disease early when the chances of treatment are much brighter? All this and more can be achieved using personal electronic health records (EHR). eKincare is a not merely consolidating the medical records, but is building a layer of analytics on top of it to predict and define a healthy behavior. Industry vertical – Healthcare Is this the next Great Idea – If we want to overly simplify the concept, it feels like the digitalization of paperwork pertaining to your health records. But, of course, it is much more – and that’s where the complexities might also catch up with the team. Innovative solutions can, naturally, get them out and in the spotlight. Bootstrapped? - Yes Capital Invested – Rs. 2 crores
Cloudboost Founder: Nawaz Dhandala Idea – Here’s a novel idea - use an AI to write software automatically! You don’t need a web developer to build apps – the startup Cloudboost think this is a technology of the future and are baking on it. 31
Beaconifi Founder: Ritabrata Bhaumik, Anuraj Ennai Idea – Brick and mortar Retailers are struggling in India (and worldwide) to compete with the online eTailers. They need to understand the demographic profile of their users, their buying habits depending on time/day of the week and able to roll out personalized and instant offers accordingly when the customer is in the vicinity or inside the Store/Mall. They need to customize the offers optimally utilizing the Inventory and PoS data. Otherwise they are going to keep losing market share to the online eTailers! This is where Beaconifi steps in to provide a good solution. Their product RetailPro combines big data analytics and sensor systems to provide personalized offers in real time based on store inventory, POS data and user purchase behavior. Industry vertical – Retail Is this the next Great Idea – Even though there is a lot of data that can be collected and analyzed just by understanding the buying patterns of individuals, it is way harder to put that data to actual use for store/mall owners. The idea certainly has the potential to become big, but whether or not the data will actually help out the right people in the right manner is what remains to be seen. If they do pull it off, then it certainly has the potential to be the next big thing. Bootstrapped? - No Capital Invested – N/A
Almabase Founder: Kalyan Varma Idea – Think of a network for alumni to come together and pool their knowledgebase for the betterment of future batches. That’s what this startup aims to do. Other benefits for this organization can also offer career guidance, mentoring, guest lectures and various internships. Industry vertical – Education Is this the next Great Idea – This has the potential to be an idea whose idea has come. Bootstrapped? - Yes Capital Invested – Rs. 60,00,000
32
Autocus Founder: Utkarsh Apoorva Idea – Comprised of different components and apps, the team behind Autocus are looking to put content from one source into the other, using cloud technology. Imagine taking a useful tweet and putting it in dropbox for later use, or taking the data you had on your Google Drive to a non-Google mail account, kept it for use via cloud servers. That is the plan here and the enthusiastic team is confident their product will be functional as well as fast enough to execute the most demanding operations. Industry vertical – Software Is this the next Great Idea – Who doesn’t want their apps to talk to each other, that’s perhaps why we have single cloud-based entities which are trying to be a ‘one-stop-solution’ for all your daily problems. If Autocus can manage to simplify existing workflows even by 50% and retain a large section of their audience for over a couple of years, they’d have crossed the most difficult path of their journey.
