DISCOVER SRI LANKA

Best for traditional festivals ‘The Pearl of the Indian Ocean’, is a popular destination in 2022 for good reason. After visiting the ancient capital of Polonnaruwa, you’ll play traditional games with local families in Tissamaharama and learn about tea production in ‘Little England’, deep in the highlands. Our product expert, Emma Garrick, recommends, “visiting in August to bear witness to Kandy’s Esala Perahera, a ten-day festival where masked dancers, entertainers and beautifully adorned elephants parade the streets”.

HIGHLIGHTS OF PORTUGAL

Best for for culinary delights Tom Wilkinson, product expert, comments, “The relationship between England, and Portugal can be traced all the way back to the Middle Ages, with the first Anglo Portuguese treaty signed in 1373”. In 2022, Portugal is less known for its maritime history and more for its refreshing wine and seafood. ”Visit during the harvest season in September, to watch ‘rogas’ picking grapes in the fragrant Douro Valley, at a time where the fields are ablaze with burnt-orange leaves and purple vines”.

WILDLIFE & WILDERNESS OF BOTSWANA

Best for waterfalls and sacred valleys Hiking through the American West is one of the region’s biggest lures and a big bucket-list item for many in 2022. Product expert, Malcolm Parkinson, explains, “In spring to early summer, cooler temperatures and fewer crowds make the perfect conditions for hiking. In Zion, the hanging gardens are in full bloom, while in Yosemite, waterfalls are at their peak. Not to mention, Black bears are out of hibernation, so your chances of viewing them are greatly enhanced”.

Best for wildlife safaris “Now is a great time to go on safari in Botswana, while tourism is still at relatively low levels”, says product expert, John Penge. “The dry months of July to September are best for visiting Chobe, Moremi and the Okavango Delta. Water levels in the delta are at their highest during this period, creating the waterways Botswana is famed for. During these months, wildlife viewing is superb, with the possibility of seeing the African bush elephant, buffalo and lion”.
