Getting Around  to Columbus Drivers can reach Columbus via two major interstates that intersect near downtown: I-70 (east-west) and I-71 (north-south). Public transportation is provided by Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA, 614-228-1776 or cota.com). Normal bus fare is $2; express fare, $2.75. View maps of all bus routes at cota.com or click on the bus icon when getting directions on maps.google.com. COTA makes it easy to ride: 1) Know where you want to go. 2) Use the Google Trip Planner on cota.com to find your bus number and departure time. 3) Arrive at the bus stop five minutes before departure time. 4) Get on board and pay your fare. You will need exact change. 5) At your destination, exit out the back door. Taxi service is widely available (Yellow Cab, 614-444-4444). neighborhoods that entertain Short North Arts District

Arena District

Head north on High Street from the Arena District and you’ll land in this creative neighborhood filled with art galleries, boutiques and hip restaurants and bars. The neighborhood’s alternative roots show every July 4 when the DooDah Parade marches down High Street. Another great time to visit is the first Saturday of every month for Gallery Hop, when galleries and stores stay open late and entertainers line the streets.

True to its name, this is the spot for sports action, including the minor league Clippers baseball team at Huntington Park and the pro hockey Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. But entertainment doesn’t stop there. There’s also popular indoor-outdoor music venue Lifestyles Communities Pavilion, and a splattering of casual restaurants and bars.

German Village Located just south of downtown, the historic brick homes and streets of German Village make it not just one of the city’s most charming neighborhoods, but a local favorite, too. So it’s no surprise you’ll find great restaurants, shops and bars nestled throughout.

Clintonville Just south of Worthington, this popular neighborhood has attractions from the Park of Roses to the many independently owned retail shops and restaurants that line High Street. During warmer months, people flock to the Clintonville Farmers Market to get fresh produce and to the Olentangy River recreational trail, along the river to hike and bike.

explore the brewery district  Just a block from German Village, the Brewery District is home to the nation’s largest theater troupe, shadowbox live, which thrills audiences with its original sketch comedy and live music. Stop for locally produced microbrews at the columbus brewing company restaurant or choose from hundreds of varieties at world of beer.

Located in COSI, this exhibit space includes artifacts and materials documenting the past 100 years in Columbus.

Jack Nicklaus Museum Sports fans won’t want to miss this museum spanning the history of golf and the career of Nicklaus, a Columbus native and one of the world’s most accomplished golfers, who got his start here.

Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum The Hall of Fame Museum shares the 75-year history of motorcycles through special exhibits, such as Honda of Ohio’s influence on motorcycles in America and the history of dirt bikes.

Historic Roscoe Village Explore life during the canal era at this recreated village along the once booming Ohio-Erie canal in Coshocton. Meet re-enactors on walking tours. Check out modern boutiques and dining establishments.

Ohio History Center See Ohio history come to life at the Ohio Village, a re-creation of a Civil War-era Ohio town. This summer the center will open “1950s: Building the American Dream,” an exhibit that allows people to walk through a lifesized Lustron home, a prefabricated home mass produced in Columbus.  For the Foodie: Get a taste of what the city’s burgeoning food scene has to offer on the popular Columbus Food Adventures and A La Carte Food tours, both which offer more than eight culinarythemed excursions.  For the sightseer: Filled with fun facts about Ohio history, the Greek-Revival style ohio statehouse lives up to its moniker as the “people’s house” as it’s open daily for free tours. It’s also one of 29 spots on the segAway tours of Columbus, a face-paced, two-hour breeze through the top downtown highlights.  For the history buFF: Join the Columbus Landmarks Foundation on its monthly tour of historic taverns that nod to the architecture and oft-scandalous history of Columbus’ long-standing watering holes.

gEt wild Rated one of the best in the country, mark the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium as a must-see during your visit. Come to see the polar bears and artic fox at Polar Frontier, touch a stingray at Stingray Bay and get up close to hundreds of other exotic wildlife. Make a splash May 18-19 when the attached Zoombezi Bay opens its gates for the season. Grab your swimsuit and explore 22-acres of aquatic adventure, including 17 water slides, a wave pool and two rivers. For an even greater

wildlife fix, head two hours east to the zoo’s sister park, the Wilds, located on 10,000 acres of reclaimed mine land in Cumberland. Take a safari tour starting in May, for a glimpse of zebras, cheetahs, giraffes and southern white rhinoceros. Adventure continues a few hours southeast of the city at Hocking Hills, where the national forest is wrought with outdoor fun perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway. “MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition” comes to COSI

Characters from beloved stories take the stage at Columbus Children’s Theater. An impulsive little mouse stars in “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse,” March 7-24. Enter the chocolate factory during “Willy Wonka,” at the Lincoln Theatre April 11-21. And watch “Cinderella” come to life April 25-May 12. A full-size historical preservation of Christopher Columbus’s flagship, the Santa Maria, is moored downtown on the Scioto River. Explore the Topiary Park, the world’s only painting re-created in topiary. See and smell thousands of varieties of roses at the Columbus Park of Roses, one of the country’s largest metropolitan rose gardens. Metro Park, surrounding the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, one of the first Audubon centers close to the core of a major American city. The 120acre park is positioned on a major migratory bird flyaway—perfect for bird watchers. The park provides ample opportunities for hiking, fishing, boating and jogging and even rock climbing on the largest free outdoor climbing wall in the country. From downtown, head south on Third Street straight through German Village and you’ll find Schiller Park, a 23.5-acre gem in the heart of one of Columbus’ most charming historic neighborhoods. The park includes picnic areas, a fishing pond, gardens and

a stage for Actors Summer Theatre, which performs Shakespeare in the park. Grab a picnic lunch from one of the area restaurants. At 7,000 acres, Battelle Darby Creek is the largest of the 16 Metro Parks and boasts prairies, forests and streams, as well as areas for visitors to hike, picnic, fish, canoe and even watch bison roam. The park’s new nature center features a 50-foot living stream—a freshwater

aquarium that showcases the diversity of life found in the Big and Little Darby Creeks, designated state and natural scenic rivers. Surrounded by restored Victorian homes just north of downtown, Goodale Park’s pond provides a backdrop for many a wedding. The city park, also home to the annual Pride Festival in June, also features playgrounds and tennis courts.

Sports Festival swings into Columbus, bringing with it 175,000 attendees and 18,000 athletes taking part in 45 different sports and events scattered throughout downtown. New to this year’s lineup are the strength-defying Scottish Highland Games at the Columbus Commons. Spectating not your thing? Then get

into the action at the annual 5k run/ walk Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on May 18 or the annual Capital City Half Marathon on May 4, which includes 13.1-, 6.55- and 3.1-mile races. Both downtown events are a great way to raise money for a good cause, and to see the city on foot. Late summer, the fifth annual Pelotonia bike ride spanning 180 miles from Columbus to Kenyon College in Gambier attracts nearly 5,000 bikers raising money for cancer research. The Aug. 9-11 race offers varying distances perfect for the novice to expert rider. The best on the pro golf circuit swing into action Memorial Day weekend at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin for the PGA’s annual Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance. The 38th event runs May 27June 2 at the course designed by golf legend and native Jack Nicklaus. The course also will host the prestigious Presidents Cup 2013 Oct. 1-6.

We kick off our Summer Farmers Market season on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. until noon along the streets of Worthington. Plantfest is May 11 and includes plant vendors, display flowers, herbs and landscape shrubbery by popular nurseries and our farmers market vendors. Our Summer Farmers Market is every Saturday morning in Worthington from May 4 through October 26. When it comes to shopping, Worthington offers the best of the old and the new. Downtown Worthington’s streets are lined with a variety of shops offering clothes, home décor and jewelry. The Shops at Worthington Place is located at St. Rte. 23 (North High Street) and I-270 and is the most pleasant of mall experiences. It offers stores you know and love, as well as specialty stores and restaurants.

While strolling along the streets of downtown Worthington, enjoy unique shopping at stores such as Fritzy Jacobs, Denig Jewelers and Worthington Jewelers. If you are looking for that perfect wedding dress, visit La Jeune Mariee. A unique area of shops and restaurants is now open at the corner of High Street and New England Avenue in downtown Worthington, including House Wine, The Candle Lab and Rivage Atlantique. Downtown Worthington offers a variety of restaurants such as P.K. O’Ryan’s for a sandwich and a brew; La Chatelaine, a French bakery and cafe, and The Old Bag of Nails Pub,

known for its fish and chips. If you have a special event to celebrate, The Restaurant at The Worthington Inn offers that special setting with American cuisine and has been recognized as one of Columbus’ top dining establishments. The Worthington area has a variety of attractions and entertainment for visitors of all ages and interests. The McConnell Arts Center is a contemporary, multidisciplinary facility presenting and promoting the performing, visual and digital arts. The Worthington Historical Society features the Old Rectory, with its exquisite Doll Museum and gift and antique shop, as well as special exhibits. Built in 1811, the Orange Johnson House still stands on its original location. At the home, visitors can view furnishings from the 19th century. The Ohio Railway Museum showcases railway cars used throughout the rail transportation years. Overnight visitors will find the Worthington area offers more than 20 different lodging options and several firstclass meeting and convention hotels.
