Friday, May 9, 2 - 4 In honor of National Train Day (Saturday, May 10), the Appomattox Regional Library System will be hosting an open house of our historic Norfolk and Western Carson Caboose, located next to the Carson Depot Library. Highlights include train stories read by Youth Services staff at 3 and simple crafts. Rain or shine.

All Ages Homeschool Meetup NEW! Homeschool families with children of all ages are invited to this casual program. Join us to make new friends and connections and discuss a classic book. All ages are welcome. Most of the books chosen are available in a variety of reading levels, from the original to abridged for younger readers. If you need assistance finding a copy of one of the titles, please contact your local branch.

Seasonal crafts: At the Hopewell, Prince George, Carson, McKenney, Rohoic, Disputanta and Dinwiddie Libraries! Typically held on the 2nd Monday of each month at 4:30 p.m.

Friends of the Library Corner Children and caregivers are introduced to six early literacy skills essential for learning to read including print motivation, narrative skills, phonological awareness, vocabulary, letter knowledge, and print awareness.

Tweens & Teens Red Cross Youth Leadership Meetings

Tuesday: Hopewell— 7:00 p.m. (see schedule) and Rohoic— 7:00 p.m.

Prince George— April 12 at 1:00 p.m.

Wednesday: Dinwiddie — 10:30 a.m.

American Red Cross Youth Leadership/Preparedness meeting for teens 13-17. We will learn a leadership topic, discuss how to get involved as a Red Cross youth volunteer, as well as learn about steps to prepare yourselves and your community, in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Friday: Carson Library—10:30 a.m

Evening Story Time Special offerings for families not able to attend during the day.

Hopewell— March 8 at 1:00 p.m. Dinwiddie— May 10 at 1:00 p.m.

Babies, Toddlers, & PreSchool (Birth to Pre-K) Spring Story Time: March 24 - May 9 NEW! Story Time is now being offered in 5 branch locations, as well as the headquarters library in Hopewell. Story time programs aim to instill a love of reading by encouraging parents and other special adults to read aloud to children. Activities in story time promote brain and language development for children from birth to age 5.

Children gain confidence in reading by reading aloud to therapy dogs! Join clever canines handlers and therapy dogs for a fun way to practice reading skills! The program is for students in grades 2-4. Sign up for a 15 minute reading slot from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Registration Required. Call 804-458-6329 ext. 1005 to register.
