An Evening Under the Stars

Sophie and Adam celebrated their nuptials under the stars in the lush Lenhardt Garden. The talented team at Anderson Event Design and Festoon created a warm ambiance highlighting the natural beauty of the Gibbes garden with vibrant florals and multihued linens.

No detail was left unnoticed, and eye-catching textures were perfectly placed throughout. Beautiful florals, fresh fruits, and linens by Stradley Davidson provided a colorful tablescape. String lights shined while guests enjoyed a delicious dinner from Salthouse Catering, followed by an evening full of dancing by Blaze the City. The celebration ended with a sparkler exit and a getaway car awaiting to drive the newlyweds o in style.

Be Our Guest: Tricks For Setting An Unforgettable Table!

We believe that setting a beautiful table is an art form, and while there is no wrong way to do it, here are some tips to make your tablescape unforgettable.

More is More!

We love a layered, highly styled table! Don’t be afraid to mix and match color, patterns, textures and metals into your tablescape. Think about the textures you’re bringing into the tablescape - if you are sticking to a traditional porcelain china, consider adding a wood or rattan element to mix it up. Rattan chargers, wood handled flatware, or little wooden place cards are all options.

What Goes Where?

A tip to help remember which side to place your bread plate and your glassware- Touch your thumb and index finger together to form a small “d” with your right hand and a little “b” with your left. Now, think of the little “d” on your right hand. It stands for “drink.” The glasses go on the right side. The little “b” on left-hand stands for “bread” and your bread & butter plate goes on the left! Also remember- you don’t want your knife to cut the spoon, so make sure the sharp edge of the knife is turned inward toward the plate.

Not Feeling Floral?

While we adore fresh flowers on a tablescape, some aesthetics don’t require floral. Consider incorporating fruits and vegetables onto your table to still achieve that natural, textured feel- but with a twist!

Is your soiree al fresco in bright sunlight or a cozy, dimly lit room? Be sure to consider the surrounding when planning your table and include lighting sources if needed. Varying height candles or tabletop lamps will bring a glow to your table, while an umbrella over your table may be a welcome respite from a sunny Charleston day.

Best Practices For Securing A Room Block

•Hotel room blocks for weddings allow guests to stay in the same hotel and make planning and transportation a breeze.

•Start looking at hotels in close proximity to your reception venue, next consider their amenities, and finally price point.

•You should reserve room blocks with at least two hotels if you are having a lot of out-of-town guests and a larger-thanaverage guest list of over 200.

•You will need to share your expected arrival and departure dates, as well as any special requests you’re hoping the property can accommodate, like welcome bags or in-room gifts.

•Book a smaller number of rooms at first and add more later in order to avoid penalties if rooms go unreserved.

•Once you’ve found a property that meets your requirements, you will need to negotiate the contract terms. This is where a wedding planner’s industry experience becomes invaluable.

•Once your contract is signed, share the booking information with your guests on your wedding website, via email, and on your save-the-dates.

What You Didn’t Know About Four of Charleston’s Historic Wedding Venues

Lowndes Grove

Built in 1786, this historic waterfront estate o ers majestic views of the Ashley River, providing stunning sunsets and river breezes. Most recently, Lowndes Grove appeared in the hit Netflix series, Outer Banks, as Sarah Cameron’s family home.

William Aiken House

The William Aiken House’s vibrant yellow façade, sweeping piazzas, and 100-year-old oak trees captivate guests with 1800s allure. Finely appointed antiques create a charming interior reminiscent of the first 100+ years of its life as the Southern Railway’s headquarters. In 2004, it was the backdrop for Ali’s memorable wedding dress fitting scene in The Notebook.

American Theater

Located in the heart of upper King Street, the American Theater’s iconic marquee shines bright throughout downtown Charleston, and its art deco design pays tribute to the 1940s era in which it was built. In 2004, it provided the romantic backdrop for the beginning of Ali and Noah’s love story in The Notebook.

Parcel 32

Originally a family home built in 1837, Parcel 32 has been renovated and restored over the years, serving as a bakery, a shoe repair shop, a restaurant, and most recently, an intimate event venue. Its location, cuisine, stunning upstairs cocktail lounge, and historic design make it the perfect setting for rehearsal dinners and micro weddings.

Corinne and Will gathered their closest friends and family for a memorable wedding weekend at Middleton Place National Historic Landmark and the Inn at Middleton Place. Corinne kicked o the weekend with an elegant bridal luncheon featuring mimosas and light fare at the Inn’s Lake House. Alex Rinna knew as soon as she stepped foot on Boone Hall Plantation the natural beauty of the 270-year-old oaks and grandeur of the property created the perfect piece of paradise to say, “I do!” From that moment, Alex and her fiancé, Jared, started to plan their dream day! The couple’s planner, Natalie Knox Rosenzweig from Boone Hall took her inspiration of coppers and terra cotta colors and created a luxurious, modern, and warm bohemian environment. Alex and Jared said their vows in front of their closest friends and family on the Front Lawn of the Boone Hall Main House creating a gorgeous memory that will last a lifetime. After the lawn ceremony, guests walked the tree lined Avenue of Oaks to the scenic Cotton Dock for a night of fun. Down the steps from the Eternal Father of the Sea Chapel is Quarters F, known now as the Gatekeepers Inn. The two story late Victorian-era home was a cottage for the keeper of Chicora Park, a public park commissioned in 1895 by the City of Charleston and designed by the Olmsted brothers. A Dreamy Fall Wedding at Middleton Place

When looking for a wedding venue, Bailee and Josh wanted to incorporate their love for the Lowcountry and the southern look and feel. They envisioned big oak trees with Spanish moss and a body of water in the background. Middleton Place, and its stunning surroundings, perfectly fit the bill.

The wedding day itself incorporated many personal touches and sweet gestures. From a Champagne tower wall in remembrance of dearly departed family members to throwing rice on their ceremony exit, which was a nod to Josh’s grandfather who sold rice for 52 years – how fitting that Middleton Place used to be a rice plantation.

Bailee’s favorite color, hunter green, and her love for candles were the perfect completion to the overall theme. All elements, combined with a pleasant golden fall day in October, made for a cozy and romantic vibe that was photographed in a documentary and artsy style. For the couple it was especially important to capture the raw emotions, joyful and special moments throughout their wedding day. A mix of natural light and flash photography tied the story together in a dreamy and authentic way.

A Classic Winter Wedding in Charleston

Caroline and Chris had a classic, intimate celebration with 65 of their closest friends and family in the Grand Ballroom of The Charleston Place. Rescheduled due to Covid-19, the couple finally celebrated their nuptials at the stunning St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, the oldest Catholic church in the Carolinas and Georgia. After, guests walked through the church’s garden courtyard to a cocktail hour held in theGrand Hallof The Charleston Place, overlooking King Street. After, guests mingled under the picturesque chandelier and the happy couple even cut their wedding cake with a family saber. A December wedding, the bride chose colors that celebrated the holiday season including winter whites, rich ruby reds and bold blush tones. Furs for the bridal party completed the winter wonderland vibes.
