Unravelling the Celtic Knot - Exploring Pictish Design. Groam House Museum, High Street, Rosemarkie, Ross-shire, IV10 8UF
The exhibition explores the evolution of Pictish design from the ancient sculptured stones found in Rosemarkie, through the analysis and interpretation by George Bain in the last century to modern applications and artefacts in a variety of media. Many of the exhibits are taken from
the George Bain Collection which was recently recognised as being of National Significance by Museums Galleries Scotland. Described as the “father of modern Celtic design”, George Bain (1881- 1968) was an artist and teacher who devoted his life to the painstaking study of Celtic Art and the techniques used by artists to construct these intricate pictures. After several successful European tours in 2013 the Chamber Philharmonia Cologne (Germany) is coming back to Australia and New Zealand in Summer 2014 with a powerful and lovely new programme. “Classical music the world over” – this is the motto of the Chamber Philharmonia Cologne. It is irrelevant for our musicians whether they are playing in a little village church, in the open air, in Cologne Cathedral or in the Sydney Opera House – their enthusiasm to play music is the same every time. The objective is simple – we want to inspire as many people as possible across all generations to enjoy classical music. Tel:0221-4206718

Widely considered to be Argentina’s finest tango singer, Martin Alvarado has performed in many major venues and festivals around the world. The Buenos Aires-born guitar-playing troubadour comes to Inverness hot from performing in the Edinburgh Fringe. He is joined by an exceptional talent from Finland, Mikko Helenius, a classically trained pianist and bandoneon player, who is possibly unique in his ability to play both his instruments simultaneously. Together they have an often improvisational approach to their interpretations, taking the audience on a journey which crosses the language barrier and gets right to the emotional heart of tango – with a few surprises along the way.
