Unravelling the Celtic Knot - Exploring Pictish Design. Groam House Museum, High Street, Rosemarkie, Ross-shire, IV10 8UF

The exhibition explores the evolution of Pictish design from the ancient sculptured stones found in Rosemarkie, through the analysis and interpretation by George Bain in the last century to modern applications and artefacts in a variety of media. Many of the exhibits are taken from

the George Bain Collection which was recently recognised as being of National Significance by Museums Galleries Scotland. Described as the “father of modern Celtic design”, George Bain (1881- 1968) was an artist and teacher who devoted his life to the painstaking study of Celtic Art and the techniques used by artists to construct these intricate pictures.
