The exhibition explores the evolution of Pictish design from the ancient sculptured stones found in Rosemarkie, through the analysis and interpretation by George Bain in the last century to modern applications and artefacts in a variety
of media. Many of the exhibits are taken from the George Bain Collection which was recently recognised as being of National Significance by Museums Galleries Scotland. Described as the “father of modern Celtic design”, George Bain (1881- 1968) was an artist and teacher who devoted his life to the painstaking study of Celtic Art and the techniques used by artists to construct these intricate pictures. Cruise Liners at Invergordon.
Cruise ships regularly visit the Port of Invergordon throughout the tourist season. Cruise ships can usually be seen from the coastline at Portgordon. If they are travelling west to east then they may be seen about two hours after their stated departure time from Invergordon. The Firth forms one of the safest and most commodious anchorages in the north of Scotland and Invergordon was at one time a major base for the Royal Navy’s Home Fleet. The Firth was the scene of the Invergordon Mutiny in 1931. 21 cruise liners are scheduled to arrive and sail from Invergordon in September. For up to date information contact 01349 852308
