A year after a policeman ticketed bartender Edin Mehic of Vienna for a brazen belch, he’s won his appeal. Mehic was fined 70 euros ($76) for a post-kebab burp, the ticket saying he violated “public decency with a loud belch next to a police officer.” News of the citation last year brought public support, and a kebab chain gave him a trip to Istanbul. Now, justice: A court said there was no proof Mehic burped to offend the officer. (AP)

More than singing the faith THE DISTRICT One Saturday afternoon this month, a band gathered to jam at the Dominican House of Studies, not far from the Catholic University of America. The drummer, a Dominican friar, counted them down. Brother Brad Elliott, dressed in a habit behind his drum kit, was joined by Sister Miriam Holzman on the piano. Sister Peter Grace Weber was off to the side, with a bass guitar. Sister Louis Marie Zogg, on the saxophone, stood next to Sister Mary Andre Thelen, on the trumpet. As the session continued, Brother Brad bopped his head, grinning. The sisters kept giggling, as they worked out timing and tempo and little blips. There was joy in the room, and what they played. Which was not church music. The band played “Unforgettable” and “What a Wonderful World,” because sweet jams are not just for the secular. Sisters Miriam, Louis Marie, Peter Grace and Mary Andre

The band is rounded out by Brother Brad and Father Jude DeAngelo, the university chaplain and director of campus ministry, on vocals. And, actually, they’re not bad. “It sort of started out as something that we could do for the students, to show them that we love them, that we want to be a part of their community,” Sister Louis Marie said. “But then it’s also just fun for us, as a group of

sisters, to be able to share that and have fun together.” The sisters, and those who know them, note that the band is part of a larger mission — to be a presence on the campus, connect with other students and share and demonstrate their faith. It also serves as a reminder of what makes Catholic, the Vatican’s university in the U.S., unique. Before Force of Habit, the sisters had a singing group called Nun of the Above. (These nuns, it seems, like to pun.) That morphed into a band in August. “I knew that the sisters had musical talent and I thought that with the inclusion of Brother Brad on the drums and Father Jude as a lead singer, that it would be a great way for us to participate on campus,” said Sister Miriam. The band has performed at four campus events this academic year, developing a bit of a following at the private university of about 7,000 in Northeast. “I am, like, one of Force of Habit’s biggest fans. I love Force of Habit,” said Amanda Martin, a freshman. “There is something incredibly funny about four religious sisters in a blues band. They’re really good.” SARAH LARIMER (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Trump tchotchkes a big hit Presidential merch is flying off the shelves as tourist season arrives

Bowser ruffles feathers over backyard coops MICHAEL MILLER (THE WASHINGTON POST)

THE DISTRICT At the Newseum gift shop, the top-selling items don’t pertain to freedom of the press. Instead, what sells is anything associated with the man who has dubbed the media “the enemy of the people.” President Donald J. Trump. It’s a similar situation at the National Archives, where employees struggle to keep the shelves stocked with Trump shot glasses. “We sold out of them,” said Angela Catigano, director of retail and e-commerce at the National Archives Foundation. “The eighthgrade boys seem to love those.” Trump’s election presents Washington’s many museums and monuments with an attractive business opportunity. As the weather warms and the tourism season ramps up, thousands of Trump supporters have begun to descend on the capital, their “Make America Great Again” hats blooming like poppies across the Mall. But not all museum shops are pushing Trump merch. Some ignore the 45th president altogether. Others carry only a few items. What to sell has always been a tricky question for museums and monuments, where tacky items can undercut serious exhibits. With a president as polarizing and unpopular in the polls as Trump, it’s a conundrum that occasionally pits profit against principles. In January, the National Museum of American History pulled a book on Trump from

Museums throughout the District are struggling with whether to sell souvenirs featuring the polarizing president.

the shelves of its gift shop after The Washington Post revealed that the $50 “collector’s vault” item was riddled with falsehoods. Linda St. Thomas, a Smithsonian Institution spokeswoman, acknowledged the book was pulled because of inaccuracies. She added that all Trump material had been taken down shortly after the inauguration.

“We did the same for Obama,” she said, adding that Smithsonian gift shops “try to stay close to the mission of that museum.” Some museum shops avoid problems by steering clear of politics altogether. A reporter saw no mention of Trump or Obama at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s store. The same was true at the National Museum of the American Indian. At Mount Vernon, there was similarly little sign of Trump — but for a very different reason. “We had hats, T-shirts, shot glasses, beanies,” a saleswoman said in late March. “But we sold out of just about everything.” At the National Archives shop, Trump paraphernalia was prominently displayed near the entrance to the store. Beneath a framed reproduction of the Emancipation Proclamation

stood bobbleheads of the newly inaugurated president, with their arms crossed and blond pompadours wobbling. Inside the Newseum shop, the only visible allusion to his administration’s frequent attacks on the media was a T-shirt with a definition of an “alternative fact” — the term coined by presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway. The top seller, said shop employee Were Barnabas, was a $16.99 red hat featuring two rows of stars and Trump’s trademarked phrase, “Make America Great Again.” The store had sold 40 of the caps that day alone. “Right now I only have 33 left,” Barnabas said, checking his inventory. “That’s a really low number. I don’t think that will last tomorrow.” MICHAEL E. MILLER (THE WASHINGTONPOST)

Gov. McAuliffe signs bill requiring quicker Alexandria sewer fix

THE DISTRICT D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is seeking to put an end to her city’s tolerance of an agrarian hobby that has taken hold in cities across the country: raising chickens. In a raft of legislative changes attached to her pending budget proposal, Bowser proposes alterations to the District’s animal control laws that would definitively ban the practice of keeping backyard chickens. The move comes after city officials suffered a defeat last year at the hands of a pair of chicken-raising antitrust attorneys who live in Chevy Chase and who sued D.C. when the Department of Health warned them to remove the birds. The litigation — which centered on ambiguities in D.C.’s Animal Control Act concerning the legal status of chickens — ended with the city beating a retreat and issuing Allison Sheedy and Dan McInnis a permit to keep their four backyard birds. But Bowser’s proposed legislation would eliminate any wiggle room in the law for urban chicken-keeping, explicitly stating that chickens are not a “common cage bird” of the kind exempted by the regulations. McInnis and Sheedy have set up a website that warns of “backyard chickens in peril” and say they plan a full-on effort to persuade D.C. Council members to reject the proposed changes to the law. Wildlife officials staged a daring rescue after an eaglet got its leg stuck in its nest at the U.S. National Arboretum. Officials noticed on a livestream that the eaglet was struggling to free its leg from the nest. A climber scaled the tree and carried the eaglet to safety on Thursday. Officials say the eaglet was examined at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and had some swelling, but no serious injuries. The eaglet was returned to the nest Friday. Officials say that after the eaglet arrived, parents “Mr. President” and “The First Lady” returned to the nest and “the family was happily reunited.” (AP)

Lawrence Hogan Sr., a former Maryland congressman and the father of Gov. Larry Hogan, died Thursday at age 88, the governor’s spokesman said. Hogan suffered a major stroke last week and his condition later took a turn for the worse, the spokesman said. The elder Hogan served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1969 to 1975. He represented Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, which included Prince George’s and Charles counties. In 1974, Hogan became the only Republican on the House Judiciary Committee to support all three articles of impeachment against President Richard Nixon. (AP)

Federal prosecutors have dropped charges against six of the eight people arrested during a marijuana giveaway near the U.S. Capitol. The U.S. attorney’s office said Friday that it would pursue misdemeanor charges only against two men who had more than 2 ounces of pot on them. Eidinger, who disputed the charges, said he plans to participate in a previously scheduled “smoke-in” outside the Capitol today. (AP)

There were no candidates in the runoff from either the mainstream left Socialists or the right-wing Republicans — the two main groups that have governed post-war France — marking a seismic shift in French politics. Macron, a 39-year-old investment banker, made the runoff on the back of a grassroots campaign without the support of a major political party. With a wink at his cheering, flag-waving supporters who yelled, “We will win!” at his election day headquarters in Paris, Macron promised to be a president “who protects, who transforms and builds” if elected. “You are the faces of French hope,” he said. His wife, Brigitte, joined him on stage before his speech — the only couple among

FRANCE Centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right populist Marine Le Pen advanced Sunday to a runoff in France’s presidential election, remaking the country’s political landscape and setting up a showdown over its participation in the European Union. French politicians on the left and right urged voters to block Le Pen in the May 7 runoff, saying her nationalist anti-EU and anti-immigration politics would spell disaster for France. “Extremism can only bring unhappiness and division to France,” defeated conservative candidate Francois Fillon said. “There is no other choice than to vote against the extreme right.” With Le Pen and Macron, voters have the starkest possible choice between two diametrically opposed visions of France’s place in the EU. It sets up a battle between Macron’s optimistic vision of a tolerant France and a united Europe with open borders against Le Pen’s darker, inwardlooking platform that called for closed borders, tougher security, less immigration and a return to the French franc. With Le Pen wanting France to leave the EU and Macron wanting even closer cooperation in the bloc, Sunday’s outcome meant the May 7 runoff will have undertones of a referendum on France’s EU membership.

Her supporters burst into a rendition of the French national anthem, chanted “We will win!” and waved blue flags with “Marine President” on them. SOURCES: WASHINGTON POST-ABC NEWS POLLS

POLITICS President Trump is heading into one of the most challenging weeks of his presidency, juggling a renewed health care push and a looming budget deadline. It’s all complicated by a potential showdown with Democrats over paying for a border wall. The symbolic 100-day mark for the administration is Saturday — the same day government could shut down without a budget deal. Despite Trump’s dismissal that the 100-day marker is “artificial,” the White House is planning a packed week of activities. Trump will sign executive orders on energy and rural policies, dine with Supreme Court justices, meet with the president of Argentina and travel to Atlanta for a National Rifle Association event. Aides stressed on Sunday talk shows that funding a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border and a vote on an effort to repeal and replace President Barack Obama’s health care law were priorities. But they also suggested a shutdown could be avoided. “I don’t think anyone foresees or expects or would want a shutdown,” said budget director Mick Mulvaney on “Fox News Sunday.” Trump would like to revive a failed effort by House Republicans to replace the Affordable Care Act. He also hopes to use a $1 trillion catchall spending bill to salvage victories on his promised border wall; a multibillion-dollar down payment on a Pentagon buildup; and perhaps a crackdown on cities that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement by federal authorities. But so far, negotiations have proven difficult, with disputes over the border wall and health law subsidies to help low-income people afford health insurance. In a pair of tweets Sunday,

ARKANSAS Arkansas’ push to put eight men to death in less than two weeks has so far resulted in just one lethal injection, and legal experts say that shows the risks of pursuing the nation’s most ambitious execution schedule since the death penalty was restored in 1976. Ledell Lee was executed minutes before his death warrant was set to expire late Thursday. It was the first time since 2005 that Arkansas had put an inmate to death. Three other executions were canceled last week because of court decisions. Another inmate scheduled for execution this week has received a stay. “If I were in the state’s shoes, I would be prepared for almost double the level of scrutiny,” said Brian Gallini, a law professor at the University of Arkansas. The state is racing to carry out the executions before its supply of the sedative midazolam, used in lethal injections, expires at the end of the month. State officials said Friday that they were prepared to move forward with the remaining executions, starting with a double execution today and another Thursday. Yet Gallini said trying to salvage the rest of the schedule could invite even more intense legal battles, “because what started out as kind of a press release and a decision has ballooned” into international news coverage. Berkeley students threaten to sue over Coulter visit

Sessions on Hawaii remark: No one has ‘sense of humor’

The Italian-born author and conservationist Kuki Gallmann was shot at her Kenyan ranch and airlifted for treatment after herders invaded in search of pasture to save their animals from drought, officials said Sunday. Gallmann, known for her best-selling book “I Dreamed of Africa,” which became a movie by the same name starring Kim Basinger, was patrolling the ranch in Laikipia when she was shot in the stomach, local police chief Ezekiel Chepkowny said. Gallmann, 73, had been with rangers from the Kenya Wildlife Service, assessing damage done to her property Saturday by arsonists, officials said. (AP)

The students who invited Ann Coulter to speak on campus at the University of California at Berkeley are threatening to sue the university if it doesn’t find a proper time and venue for the conservative pundit to speak this week. Attorney Harmeet Dhillon, who represents the Berkeley College Republicans, said in letters sent Friday to Berkeley’s Interim Vice Chancellor Stephen Sutton and chief attorney Christopher Patti that if Coulter is not allowed to give a speech on campus Thursday, she will file a lawsuit in federal court because the university is violating the students’ constitutional right to free speech. (AP)

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said “nobody has a sense of humor anymore,” after drawing ire for seeming to dismiss the state of Hawaii as merely “an island in the Pacific.” Last week, Sessions criticized a federal judge’s ruling in Hawaii that blocked the Trump administration’s immigration ban. Sessions told radio host Mark Levin: “I really am amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific can issue an order that stops the president of the United States.” On Sunday’s ABC’s “This Week,” when asked why he didn’t refer to Hawaii by its name, Sessions said: “Nobody has a sense of humor anymore.” (AP)

VEZINA FINALIST

JERRY BREWER | THE WASHINGTON POST

One-man show: For best results, Wall can’t do it all shooting so many bricks? Playoff jitters is no longer an acceptable explanation. We’re three games into the postseason, and the Wizards are still off. Wall was again on his game Saturday, making 10 of 12 field goals, scoring 29 points and dishing out seven assists. For the series, he is averaging 31 points and 10 assists on 55.4 percent shooting. Marcin Gortat is shooting 60 percent, but the center is taking only 8.3 shots a game. And backup point guard Brandon Jennings has made 8 of his 13 attempts. But the rest of the Wizards who have taken at least 20 shots are practicing masonry. As a team, the Wizards are making just 27.8 percent of their 3-pointers through three games, down from 37.2 during the regular season. Remove Wall, who has made 5 of 7 from behind the arc, and the Wizards are shooting 23.6 percent from deep. It’s no surprise the Wizards lost a game and concluded they have defensive mistakes to clean up. It’s far more troubling that the thing they do best has been shaky. “We’re missing wide open shots,” Markieff Morris said.

JONATHAN NEWTON (THE WASHINGTON POST)

The playoff highlight reel for John Wall has yet to disappoint. In three first-round games against the Hawks, Wall has produced enough wow moments to raise his superstar profile and carry the Wizards. You’d be a fool to want less from him, but entering Game 4 in Atlanta tonight (8, CSN, TNT), it’s time to see more from the rest of the team. As the Wizards opened this best-of-seven series with two home wins, Wall’s splendid performance masked uncharacteristic missed shots and spotty play from his teammates. But in Game 3 on Saturday, the Wizards needed a balanced offensive outing to counter the Hawks’ energy and hot shooting. They didn’t have it, so they lost 116-98, ruining a chance to push Atlanta to the brink of elimination. Washington remains in a favorable position with a 2-1 series lead, but now the Wizards must find better answers to their problems. Their defense has been a shortcoming, but there’s a larger issue in this series: Why are the Wizards

Holtby could claim goalie trophy again

Wizards point guard John Wall is averaging 31 points over three playoff games, but the team’s offense is at its best when he prioritizes passing.

For as fantastic as Wall has been, his team is best when everyone eats. Wall is a pass-first point guard. When you see him averaging 31 points in a series, it indicates both that he’s an amazing player and that the Wizards are using his scoring as a crutch. The Wizards are

The Wizards’ record in regularseason games in which John Wall scored at least 30 points this season. Washington lost in his two highest-scoring games — 52 points vs. the Magic and 41 vs. the Clippers. When Wall had at least 14 assists this season, the Wizards went 12-3. J.B.

most dangerous when Wall scores in the 20-25 range and adds 10-15 assists. The Wizards shouldn’t make too much of three games — or one loss in which they missed 22 of 29 shots from 3-point range. They could play more inside-out, but no major offensive adjustments are needed. They just have to make shots. This is a series now, sort of. In Game 4, the Wizards wouldn’t mind seeing Wall race coast-to-coast and go behind his back for a dunk again. But what they need most is much more routine: A pass to an open shooter, who then sets his feet, flicks his wrist and grins as the net ripples. Follow Jerry Brewer on Twitter @JerryBrewer

Capitals goalkeeper Braden Holtby has a chance to repeat as the Vezina Trophy winner, given to the NHL’s top netminder in the regular season. The NHL on Saturday announced Holtby, Sergei Bobrovsky of Columbus and Carey Price of Montreal as the finalists. Holtby, 27, won the award last season, Price won it in 2015 and Bobrovsky won in 2013. This year’s winner will be announced June 21. Holtby led the NHL in wins (42) and shutouts (nine) this season. Bobrovsky led in goals against average (2.06) and save percentage (.932). Price finished with 37 wins and three shutouts. (TWP)

LeBron James helped erase a two-point deficit with 68 seconds left and knock out Paul George and the Pacers.

Clutch LeBron powers Cleveland into Round 2 James extends mastery of opening round with Cavs’ sweep of Indiana CAVALIERS 106, PACERS 102 LeBron James stuck to the old script Sunday in Indianapolis. Again, he bailed out the Cavaliers. And again, he sent the Pacers home for vacation. On yet another milestone day for basketball’s king, James’ crowning achievement was making the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:08 to play and helping the defending champions hold on for a series-clinching 106-102 victory. The four-time MVP finished with 33 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks.

By winning his 21st consecutive first-round game, James broke a tie with Michael Cooper, Magic Johnson and James Worthy for the longest streak under the NBA’s current playoff format. By sweeping a series for the 10th time, James broke a tie with Tim Duncan for the most in a career, according to Elias Sports Bureau. And by holding on for the win, James improved to 52-0 in the playoffs when his team takes a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter. Kyrie Irving added 28 points for the Cavs, who await the winner of a Bucks-Raptors series that’s tied 2-2 ahead of Game 5 tonight (7, NBATV).

Indiana chipped away at a 9683 deficit with a 7-0 spurt early in the fourth quarter. Thaddeus Young tied the score at 100 with a short jumper and broke the tie on a tip-in with 1:31 left. But James answered with the go-ahead 3. His teams have eliminated the Pacers four times in six years, and this year marked the first four-game sweep in Indiana’s NBA history. Lance Stephenson led the Pacers with 22 points. Paul George had 15, his low in the series. “It’s real frustrating to continue on losing to the same team or same person,” George said. “Ultimately, [James] is who I’m always going to have to see and face.” MICHAEL MAROT (AP)

Ailing Golden State coach Steve Kerr said he won’t be on the sideline for Game 4 against the Trail Blazers tonight (10:30, TNT). Kerr was out with what the team termed an “illness” during Game 3 on Saturday in Portland. Assistant Mike Brown took over, and the Warriors overcame a 17-point first-half deficit to win 119-113 and go up 3-0 in the first-round series. ESPN reported Sunday that Kerr was suffering from head and neck pain. He still experiences symptoms from complications after two back surgeries in the past two years and said Sunday that his pain got worse in the past week.

Reserve center Nene scored 28 points on perfect shooting from the field, and the Rockets beat the Thunder 113-109 on Sunday in Oklahoma City to take a 3-1 lead in their first-round series. Nene made all 12 of his shots and had 10 rebounds to help Houston overcome an off day by James Harden (16 points). Thunder star Russell Westbrook had a triple-double by halftime and finished with 35 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists. (AP)

Clarke MacArthur, above, scored a power-play goal with 6:30 gone in the first overtime and the Senators beat the Bruins 3-2 on Sunday in Boston to win their first-round series in six games. Ottawa will play the New York Rangers in Round 2. Craig Anderson stopped 28 shots for Ottawa, which advanced in the postseason for the first time since 2013. It was the fourth overtime game in the series. Tuukka Rask made 26 saves for the Bruins, who received goals from Drew Stafford and Patrice Bergeron. Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris also scored for Ottawa. Giants don’t anticipate surgery for Bumgarner Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday there are no indications that left-hander Madison Bumgarner will need surgery after injuring himself in a dirt bike accident Thursday in Denver. Bochy said Bumgarner, whom the club said is out indefinitely with a sprain in his pitching shoulder and bruised ribs, will have a follow-up exam in San Francisco. Fox Sports reported Bumgarner is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Lefty Ty Blach, who is in his second MLB season, is expected to start in Bumgarner’s place Tuesday against the Dodgers. (AP)

Offred’s wait for a chance at freedom STREAMING W h e n O ff r e d ( pl aye d by “Mad Men’s” Elisabeth Moss) steps outside of the house she lives in, everyone knows exactly what she is. Based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 book, Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which premieres Wednesday with three episodes, takes place in the former United States, where a far-right Christian sect has taken over every aspect of American life. In the newly named Republic of Gilead, environmental destruction means that birth rates are plummeting, and fertile women are at a premium. Many of them are forced to serve as surrogate wombs for powerful but infertile couples. Offred’s husband is killed after her family is caught trying to escape to Canada; their daughter is taken to be raised by a more

“suitable” couple. Offred is assigned to her commander (Joseph Fiennes); her name, literally “of fred,” is a derivation of his. In between monthly mating ceremonies, she sits alone in her room, doing nothing — women are no longer allowed to read or write. She does the daily grocery shopping with Ofglen (Alexis Bledel), the handmaid down the street, both wearing the garb that befits their station: red cloaks and white, nun-like hats that shield their faces, clearly advertising to the world their place in it. “It’s another huge right taken away, which is the right to privacy,” Moss says. “That’s something that’s taken away from these women — they don’t have the right to walk down the street and be anonymous.” Offred’s speech is highly regulated, both in form (“Under His eye” is the most acceptable greeting) and in function (with spies everywhere, she must be very circumspect about whom she talks to, and what about). Still, she has a deep inner monologue

(presented as narration in the book and voice-over on the show), which Moss found as both a challenge and an opportunity. “For me as an actor, the most fun thing to do is try to show an outer and an inner life,” she says. “That’s what I try to do in any role; this was just the extreme of that. The outer life was as constrictive as it could possibly be, and then [showing] the inner life was as challenging as it could possibly be.” That challenge took on an extra layer, because Offred can’t show her inner life to the people around her. “I had to figure out a way not to let the other characters in the scene see what you’re thinking or feeling, but let the audience see it,” Moss says. “That’s what keeps the

audience interested — you have to let them in a little bit. Luckily, that’s something you can do with a camera, because just a blink of an eye or a twitch of the mouth is everything.” So (at least at the end of the first three episodes) Offred waits in her bare room, wearing her red dress. She waits, and listens — and watches for a moment where she can grasp at freedom. Even though she’s in an impossible situation, she still believes in the possibility that things might change, that she might still be able to take action. “I think that one of the messages of the book and of the show is to wake up and not sleep through it,” Moss says. “Thank God we have that hope.”

The same day as the White House Correspondents’ dinner, Samantha Bee will host her own rival program at DAR Constitution Hall, airing as a comedy special.

Bless their hearts: ‘Southern Charm’ has humor and heat It’s hard to imagine a more generic name for a reality show than “Southern Charm.” That’s the Bravo series that started Season 4 this month — and drew a solid 1.25 million viewers in the desirable 18-to-49 age bracket for the premiere. What’s making people tune in? The show (9 p.m. Mondays) revolves around characters in their late 20s and early 30s who live in Charleston, S.C. Many of them look so much alike that even they can’t tell themselves apart. Is that tousle-haired, grinning party boy Shep or

his protege, tousle-haired, grinning party boy Austen? Which slender blonde woman is Naomie and which is Cameran? The beauty of the show is that it really doesn’t even matter because they all like a) daydrinking parties, b) complaining about the “150 degree” heat and c) wearing pastels. For comic relief, there’s an older socialite, Patricia, and her plump pug, Chauncey. She lolls in bed in her palatial estate, summons her butler and asks why the buzzer to summon him isn’t buzzing. He dutifully replies, “I’m sure the batteries have worn down.” For tragedy, there’s the broken couple of Thomas (who’s in his 50s and a former

Thomas explains that the two children live in his guesthouse with a nanny because children are “messy” and he’d rather they spit up on a $200 guesthouse rug than a $30,000 main house rug. He’s currently looking for “a woman who feels privileged to be with me.” So beneath the show’s bland title lie Southern self-indulgence, Southern snootiness and Southern sorrows. Maybe that’s why people are watching! Meanwhile, the unsung star of the series is Charleston, with its enticing palm trees and Spanish moss, refreshing river vistas and inviting front porches. Unlike the show’s boorish humans, the Palmetto City oozes Southern charm. Read Marc’s previous columns at washingtonpost.com/muse

“There are hundreds of heroes out there on the course today, but Matthew Rees shows the true spirit of the #LondonMarathon.”

“Mandatory gray-on-gray with a dash of black is pretty much universally recognized as the standard uniform for [the] bleakest of futures.” MATT NOVAK, writing for gizmodo.com

about the new McDonald’s uniforms. The fast-food giant will soon roll out two new uniform collections. Some of the new unis feature the upgraded logo T-shirts one would expect, but the grayon-gray apron designs received more attention for looking dystopian. Some wondered if the uniforms were inspired by “1984,” or “The Hunger Games.”

@IRARAINEY, tweeting about London Marathon runner

Matthew Rees, who stopped ahead of the finish line to help fellow runner David Wyeth, who was in distress. Rees sacrificed his completion time to help Wyeth, who was about 150 yards from the finish. A volunteer came in from the sidelines to help as well. Rees was hailed on social media for his sportsmanship. ”You’re a hero for stopping for that guy in trouble when so many ran past,” @BoudicaRuns tweeted.

“Things I’ve got no patience for in 2017: Celebrities tip toeing around the word feminism as if it will bite them.” @TORITAYLOR, reacting after the cast of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, shied away from calling it a feminist story. At the Tribeca Film Festival, actress Elisabeth Moss, above, called it “a human story.” Fans anticipating the series did not appreciate that stance: “The team behind ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ TV show claiming it’s not ‘feminist’ is arguably creepier than anything in Atwood’s ... novel,” @zhandlen tweeted.

“Please God never let Rihanna stop posting on social media.” @PRASEJEEBUS, tweeting about Rihanna’s series of Instagram posts for Queen Elizabeth’s 91st birthday on Friday, featuring the British queen’s face photoshopped onto some of Rihanna’s most iconic outfits. For example, in the picture above, Queen Elizabeth is edited into Rihanna’s recent Coachella look. The pics made for a hilarious combination, but some commenters thought it was disrespectful. Rihanna is known for her social media antics — her account was briefly disabled in 2014 after she posted provocative photos.
