Department tweeted the erroneous cause of a two-acre blaze BOWIE, MD. A fire in Maryland that officials said might have been caused by a meteorite turns out not to have been caused by a meteorite at all. Late Sunday night, the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department reported that its Station 39 had responded to a “massive brush fire” near Scarlet Oak Terrace. “39 runs an odd one,” the department tweeted. “Possible meteorite strike.” The tweet was accompanied by the photograph of a crater and a small, rock-like object. After some local media began following the story, however, the volunteer fire department’s captain apologized. He explained that the two-acre fire took 15 firefighters four hours to extinguish, but said it was not caused by a meteorite. “A tweet was sent out using the official department Twitter account that insinuated that there was a relationship between

a meteorite and the cause of fire,” Chief Jonathan D. Howard Sr. said in a statement. “This was simply not so and the post should have never been made listing a cause. Cause and determination is made solely by the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department. As the Chief of the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department, I apologize for the media attention this has created.” In a statement, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Fire Department said the cause

of the fire was “undetermined.” U.S. Naval Observatory astronomer Geoff Chester said meteorites are cold when they strike the Earth and do not cause fires, unless they strike a flammable object like, for example, a gas line. “The likelihood that the fire was caused by a meteorite is somewhere between slim and nil,” he said. “I think they have to look for some other cause for this one.” JUSTIN WM. In battered Baltimore, city votes for a healer A big day today for elections in Maryland

BALTIMORE Elder C.W. Harris was strapped to a lawn chair as early voting took place in this city’s tense mayoral primary. His lawn chair, in turn, was tethered to an AC unit on a narrow rooftop in West Baltimore. By leaning out — carefully — he could look over the blocks that had been aflame with rioting exactly 51 weeks earlier. “Vote!” the 66-year-old pastor periodically hollered down to the residents of Sandtown-Winchester. “Vote me off this roof!” One year after the violence that followed the death of Freddie Gray, and one week before the city would select its next leader, the pastor of Newborn Community of Faith Church had climbed up with a tent, a port-apotty and a pledge: He wouldn’t come down until at least 500 of his neighbors had gone to the polls for early voting. His rooftop vigil was part of what Harris called “the craziness,” a year that started with an uprising, led to the mayor deciding not to run for reelection and is ending with a chaotic campaign of more than a dozen candidates vying to run a city that remains deeply troubled. The winner of today’s Democratic primary, almost certain to be elected mayor come November in overwhelmingly Democratic Baltimore, will take office with police and black residents still wary of each other. More than 16,000 houses sit vacant, and public schools rank at or near the bottom of many state measures.

misappropriating gift cards intended for needy families. As part of a plea deal, Dixon stepped down, paid $45,000 to charity and performed 500 hours of community service. While many Baltimoreans say that they remember her as a capable leader, she has been unable to shake the taint of scandal in most parts of the city. Harris, meanwhile, was able to come down from his roof after four days of badgering his neighbors to vote. Five hundred Sandtown-Winchester residents cast ballots within a week of the polls opening, more than double the rate in 2014. Early voting has surged across the city, due in part to the presidential primary and the restored right of ex-offenders to vote. Harris called it a start. “I’m optimistic,” he said. “I’m a preacher. I have to be.”

POLITICS Maryland voters have more candidates than usual to choose from in a primary election that promises to have wide-ranging repercussions for the state’s political landscape, with the rare opening of a U.S. Senate seat and two congressional slots, in addition to the presidential race. Unlike in other presidential primaries in Maryland in recent years, candidates have made repeated campaign stops in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1. Billionaire Donald Trump made two stops recently. Republicans Ted Cruz and John Kasich also made stops last week in Maryland, which will vote today along with Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Democrat Bernie Sanders rallied in Baltimore on Saturday, and former President Bill Clinton spoke at Baltimore churches on behalf of Hillary Clinton on Sunday. Maryland voters also are seeing the impact of Sen. Barbara Mikulski’s retirement at the end of her term. Voters will be choosing candidates for a rarely open Senate seat Mikulski has held for nearly 30 years. Her retirement caused two U.S. House seats to open, with Rep. Donna Edwards and Rep. Chris Van Hollen running in the Democratic primary for Senate. Former Gov. Martin O’Malley announced his endorsement for Van Hollen on Monday.

wouldn’t seek a second term. “It’s been a circus,” said Harris, who won’t say whom he is supporting. “I just have to be hopeful that God will raise up somebody who will have the humanity to say, ‘Enough is enough.’ ” In recent weeks, a clear frontrunner has emerged: Catherine E. Her nearest rival, former mayor Sheila Dixon, logged 25 percent in the early-April poll. No other candidate had more than 9 percent. local Two D.C. high schools alter their schedules to help stop violence THE DISTRICT Dunbar and McKinley Tech high schools are located about a 20-minute walk apart in two different D.C. neighborhoods: Dunbar in Northwest’s Truxton Circle neighborhood, and McKinley Tech in Northeast’s Eckington neighborhood. But neither school has a Metro station in its immediate vicinity, and students from both schools

often commute on the same bus lines and walk to the same Metro station — the NoMa Gallaudet station on the Red Line. On April 11, dozens of students from the high schools gathered at the NoMa Metro station in Northeast for a school-on-school fight. The school system said that as result of that fight, and an increasing number of conflicts between students at the two high schools, it will now stagger the arrival and dismissal times of the schools so students aren’t coming and going at the same times. Both schools ran from 8:45 a.m.

McKinley now runs from 8:35 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. and Dunbar from 8:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. “We just want to make sure that both communities are able to have a very productive time in and out of school, whether they are commuting or in school,” said Michelle Lerner, a D.C. Public Schools spokeswoman. Lerner said this is the first time in recent memory that the school system has taken such action, and it is still unclear if this change will continue into next year. Alleged victim: Hastert still owes $1.8M in hush money COURTS A man who alleges he was sexually abused by former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert and later promised $3.5 million to stay quiet filed a breach-ofcontract lawsuit Monday, saying he is owed more than half of the money Hastert promised. The man, identified in court documents as “Individual A,” filed the lawsuit in Yorkville, Ill., where Hastert, 74, was a high school teacher and wrestling coach. It was there, prosecutors believe, that he molested at least four boys decades ago. Prosecutors said the statute

of limitations on the sex crimes ran out long ago, so they could only charge Hastert with dodging banking regulations when he withdrew the hush money. He pleaded guilty to the federal banking charges in October and is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday in Chicago. He faces a maximum of five years in prison. Hastert’s attorneys declined to comment on the lawsuit Monday. In the suit, the man said he was 14 when Hastert offered to take him to a wrestling camp. He said Hastert sexually abused him in a motel room where they stayed. In the years following the

abuse, the man “suffered severe panic attacks which led to periods of unemployment, career changes, bouts of depression, hospitalization, and long-term psychiatric treatment,” according to the lawsuit. In 2008, he confronted Hastert, who as House speaker was third in line to the presidency. The man asked to be compensated for the pain and suffering Hastert caused, and the two agreed to the $3.5 million the man suggested, the lawsuit states. The lawsuit alleges that Hastert has paid only $1.7 million.

Abductions still a mystery Students in Mexico may have unintentionally taken drug gang’s bus MEXICO CITY A group of outside experts who spent more than a year investigating the disappearance of 43 college students in Mexico found that federal authorities were tracking in real time the movement of the students on buses on the night of their abduction, but failed to save them. The experts identified a possible motive for the crime: The

buses may have been used to traffic heroin out of the western town of Iguala, and the students may have inadvertently commandeered one of them, prompting a furious search for them. The experts slammed the tactics of authorities, documenting torture of suspects and debunking the government’s central conclusion, denying that the students from Ayotzinapa were burned to death in a remote trash dump. The Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts issued its final report Sunday with the mystery unsolved and the

Obama outlines plan to expand forces in Syria

The White House is pledging $100 million to expand workforce training programs at community colleges, building on President Barack Obama’s goal of making tuition at community colleges free. Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, announced the Labor Department grant program Monday at the Community College of Philadelphia, a school that adopted the tuition-free model championed by the administration last year.

HANNOVER, GERMANY President Barack Obama outlined plans Monday to bolster U.S. Special Operations forces in Syria, raising their number to as many as 300 troops in a move he said was needed to keep pressure on the Islamic State. The president noted gains made by the current 50 special operators advising and assisting local forces batting ISIS, which holds territory in Syria and Iraq. “Given the success, I’ve approved the deployment of up to 250 additional U.S. personnel . . . to keep up this momentum,” Obama said in a speech from Hanover, Germany, that also focused on European issues at the end of a six-day trip that included talks in Saudi Arabia and Britain. Obama emphasized that the troops are “not going to be leading the fight on the ground” but would work with local forces and with maintenance and logistics personnel. The president also pledged to continue pressing hard on diplomatic efforts to end Syria’s civil war, because “the suffering of the Syrian people has to end.” Obama discussed the ISIS fight with British Prime Minster David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minster Matteo Renzi. In his speech, he pressed allies to match the U.S. in the fight against ISIS with new contributions of their own.

GOP’s desperate measures Rivals Cruz and Kasich become allies in latest stop-Trump strategy

1

Candidates and campaigns are strategic. Voters aren’t. The theory behind this alliance is the same thinking that motivates candidates and campaigns to believe that endorsements are critical. They almost never are, because the average voter doesn’t care who some other politician thinks is the best choice. The idea that a Kasich voter would be for Cruz “for the broader good of the Republican party” is a tough sell for ordinary voters, who don’t necessarily look at the big picture but vote for whom they like or who they think understands

THE FIX With Republican front-runner Donald Trump poised to pick up more delegates today in five presidential primaries — in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island — his GOP rivals are more desperate than ever. That urgency resulted in a strategic alliance that the campaigns of Ted Cruz and John Kasich put into effect Monday. They announced late Sunday that Kasich would stop campaigning in — and trying to win — Indiana’s primary May 3. Cruz would do the same in Oregon on May 17 and New Mexico on June 7. The goal is simple: to keep Trump from winning the 1,237 delegates he needs to be the GOP’s presidential nominee. What probably became clear to the underdogs is that they weren’t going to beat Trump in Indiana’s winner-take-most primary and, by losing, would put him on a reasonable path to the nomination. But that doesn’t mean the plan will work. Here’s why:

John Kasich, left, will step aside in Indiana to help Ted Cruz, who in turn won’t campaign in Oregon or New Mexico.

them — not the candidate that some other candidate told them to support.

2

The overlap between Kasich and Cruz voters is insignificant. Cruz, of Texas, is a Southern senator whose entire campaign is premised on two ideas: a) People who are part of the “Washington cartel” are corrupt and dumb and b) he is the one true conservative willing to stand up to President Barack Obama on, among other things, the Affordable Care Act. Kasich, the governor of Ohio, is someone who spent two decades in the U.S. House — he was the chairman of the Budget Committee — and who, among other things, participated in the Medicaid Expansion program as part of Obamacare. Republican who was for Kasich, it’s hard to imagine that you agree with Cruz on almost anything. Ditto a Cruz voter in Oregon or New Mexico. These candidates were on the opposite ends of the GOP spectrum even when there were 17 candidates running! The only reason you would be a Kasich voter for Cruz in Indiana is because Kasich told you to be. (And there is some doubt about how Kasich truly feels about that matter.)

Megyn Kelly secures one-on-one interview with Donald Trump, airing May 17 on Fox News

The alliance perfectly fits Trump’s “rigged” narrative. If Trump could have engineered a scenario that would fire up his anti-establishment base any more than it already is, the public announcement of a Cruz-Kasich alliance is how he would have done it. Now it’s not just hard-to-understand delegate math where the GOP establishment is plotting against Trump, he would say, but a high-profile handshake agreement between a sitting senator and governor. “Collusion is often illegal in many other industries, and yet these two Washington insiders have had to revert to collusion in order to stay alive,” Trump said in a statement on the deal. “It is sad that two grown politicians have to collude against one person who has only been a politician for ten months in order to try and stop that person from getting the Republican nomination.” CHRIS CILLIZZA (THE WASHINGTON POST)

A poll published Monday suggests that Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders might have already won a contest that could prove crucial in America’s political future. The Harvard poll of Americans between ages 18 and 29 finds that their attitudes have become more liberal in the past year, said polling director John Della Volpe: “He’s not moving a party to the left. He’s moving a generation to the left.” For the first time in the poll’s past five years, significantly more young people identified as Democrats (40 percent) than independent (36 percent). Republicans made up 22 percent. The share who agreed that “basic necessities, such as food and shelter, are a right that government should provide to those unable to afford them” increased from 43 percent last year to 47 percent now. The share who agreed that “the government should spend more to reduce poverty” increased from 40 percent to 45 percent. It’s rare, Della Volpe said, for young people’s attitudes to change much from year to year in the polling, and even more remarkable for so many measures to shift in the same direction. “That’s not all him,” Della Volpe said, “but there is no question that there is a significant part of the electorate that he has woken up and is organizing.” MAX EHRENFREUND

THREE POINTERS

Prospects on the rise

Court: Brady must serve 4-game ban NFL Patriots quarterback Tom Brady must serve a four-game Deflategate suspension imposed by the NFL, a federal appeals court ruled Monday, overturning a lower judge and siding with the league in a battle with the players union. A three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled 2-to-1 that Commissioner Roger Goodell did not deprive Brady of “fundamental fairness” with his procedural rulings. The split decision may end the legal debate over the scandal that led to months of arguing over air pressure and the reputation of one of the league’s top teams. It also fuels a fresh round of debate over what role, if any, Brady played in using underinflated footballs at the AFC championship game in January 2015. The Patriots won the contest over the Colts

45-7, and then won the Super Bowl. Soon after Monday’s ruling, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump opened a campaign rally in Rhode Island by sticking up for Brady, a longtime friend and golfing buddy. “First of all let’s start by saying leave Tom Brady alone,” Trump said. “It’s enough.” The ruling can be appealed to the full 2nd Circuit or to the U.S. Supreme Court, but it would likely be a steep and time-consuming climb even if the courts took the unusual step to consider it. In a majority opinion written by Judge Barrington D. Parker, the 2nd Circuit said its review of labor arbitration awards “is narrowly circumscribed and highly deferential — indeed, among the most deferential in the law. “Our role is not to determine for ourselves whether Brady participated in a scheme to deflate footballs or whether the suspension imposed by the Commissioner should have been for three games or five games or none at all. With the trades of the top two picks, it’s a near certainty that QBs Jared Goff and Carson Wentz will go No. 1 and 2. So Lynch could benefit from a QB-deprived team reaching for him early.

Brady could miss games against the Cardinals, Dolphins, Texans and Bills.

How Brady saved $2M Tom Brady’s decision to restructure his contract earlier this year could save the Patriots quarterback nearly $2 million. Brady’s new deal was backloaded — with an emphasis on bonuses. He changed a $9 million base salary for 2016 into a signing bonus and a $1 million base salary. So instead of losing $2.11 million by serving a four-game suspension, he would lose $235,000. (EXPRESS)

is it our role to second-guess the arbitrator’s procedural rulings,” the opinion said. “Our obligation is limited to determining whether the arbitration proceedings and award met the minimum legal

standards established by the Labor Management Relations Act.” The appeals ruling follows a September decision by U.S. District Judge Richard Berman that went against the league, letting Brady skip the suspension last season. Goodell insisted the suspension was deserved. The appeals court settled the issue well before the start of the 2016 season, avoiding the tension built last year when Brady didn’t learn until a week before the season that he would be allowed to start in the Patriots’ opener. Curry out at least 2 weeks

Stephen Curry will miss at least two weeks with a sprained ligament in his right knee, dealing a blow to the Warriors’ hopes of winning a second straight title. The Warriors said an MRI on Monday showed he has a Grade 1 sprain of the MCL; the club said he will be re-evaluated in two weeks. That timetable would lead to Curry missing the rest of the first round and likely at least four games in Round 2 if the Warriors advance. A rivalry renewed

It took seven years, but the Capitals and Penguins are set to meet again in the playoffs. This year’s second-round matchup marks the ninth series between the teams and the second since Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby broke into the NHL together in 2005. Below is a look at some of the top moments in the rivalry since both No. 1 picks made their debuts. BEN RABY (FOR EXPRESS)

Crosby had a goal and an assist and was named the game’s first star as the Penguins beat the Capitals 5-4 in the first ever “Sid vs. Ovi” NHL matchup. Ovechkin had an assist and skated a game-high 25:17, including 1:38 short-handed (yes, times have changed). This would mark the only time in Ovechkin’s career that he played against one of his boyhood idols in Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux, who announced his retirement later that season. MAY 4, 2009

Dueling hat tricks at Verizon Center The NHL had its dream matchup in 2009 when Ovechkin and Crosby met for the first time in the postseason. Both players delivered on the big stage, most notably in Game 2 when Ovechkin and Crosby recorded hat tricks in an eventual 4-3 Washington win (David Steckel

scored the other goal). The win gave the Capitals a 2-0 series lead, but the Penguins would rally to win the series in seven. FEB. 7, 2010

Capitals rally on “Snowmageddon” With much of the District covered in nearly two feet of snow, the Capitals hosted the Penguins on Super Bowl Sunday in 2010. The Capitals fell behind 2-0 in the first period and trailed 4-1 in the second, before an Ovechkin hat trick and a dramatic third-period comeback helped send the game to overtime. Mike Knuble would net the OT winner on the power play, securing the Capitals’ franchise-record 14th straight win by beating the Penguins 5-4. JAN. 1, 2011

Capitals and Penguins take it outside A case can be made that the Ovechkin-Crosby rivalry peaked with their much-hyped meeting in

the 2011 Winter Classic. HBO camera crews followed both teams in the lead up to the outdoor contest, where the Capitals prevailed 3-1 under the lights at Heinz Field. Eric Fehr scored twice for the Capitals, while a hit from Steckel late in the second period would lead to Crosby missing the last 41 games of the 2010-11 season with a concussion.

Orpik and Niskanen return to Pittsburgh The rivalry took an interesting twist in the 2014 offseason when former Penguins assistant coach Todd Reirden joined Barry Trotz’s staff in D.C., with free agent defensemen Brooks Orpik (5 years, $27.5M) and Matt Niskanen (7 years, $40.25M) soon following. The signings were the first significant moves by rookie GM Brian MacLellan. The Capitals beat the Penguins 3-0 in their first trip to Pittsburgh during the 2014-15 season, with Braden Holtby earning a 31-save shutout.

NATS’ PITCHING DOMINANCE

The number of times the Nationals struck out the Twins over the last two games of their weekend series. Saturday’s starter, Tanner Roark, had a career-high 15 strikeouts in a 2-0 win, and Sunday’s starter, Stephen Strasburg, fanned 10 in a 16-inning 6-5 win. The bullpen added 13 strikeouts in that two-game span. Washington’s pitching staff entered Monday with an MLB-best 2.24 ERA. Lakers won’t bring back Scott as coach next season

Johnny Manziel is expected to be indicted today in Dallas on charges that he attacked his ex-girlfriend in January, an attorney for the former NFL quarterback said Monday. Robert Hinton said prosecutors have notified him that they expect a local grand jury to sign off on a misdemeanor assault charge for family violence. The Class A misdemeanor carries up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine. (AP)

Byron Scott will not return to coach the Lakers next season, the team announced late Sunday. Scott, 55, was 38-126 and coached the Lakers for the two worst seasons in the history of the franchise, which has won 16 NBA championships. He believes in building through the draft and is committed to resigning the Redskins’ own rather than embarking on free-agent spending sprees. STUDIES SHOW …

Born to run?

ELISE PERRY

FaYoFlex is meant to loosen tight bodies. “A tight body is not the most functional body,” founder Pierre Wright says.

Moving back to basics Mobility training, often overlooked, helps the body move the way it’s meant to FITNESS In a studio normally used for Bikram yoga classes, Pierre Wright is leading students through a sequence of exercises designed to improve how their bodies move. The class starts with bent-elbow arm circles to release tension in the shoulder blades, then moves to a series of spinal stretches. It ends with the cross touch, a challenging variation of the dead bug posture, engaging the whole body. The class — FaYoFlex (which stands for Fascia, Yoga and Flexibility) at Wright’s Bikram Yoga Petworth — is designed to ensure that someone can lift weights, fully perform a backward bend or simply stand and walk correctly and without pain. FaYoFlex, as created by Wright, focuses on mobility: the connectivity between muscle groups, joint capsules and the fascial system (the web of soft connective tissue that surrounds the muscles and joints, affecting movement and performance). Wright, a Park View resident with a Ph.D. in psychology from Howard University who opened

the studio a year ago, said FaYoFlex is open to everyone — from children to the elderly — regardless of athletic ability. Betty Weiss, a Petworth resident, is recovering from a back injury, and she said she’s seen her strength and flexibility improve from taking the class. “It’s a good complement for other exercise classes. It keeps things from being too tight,” Weiss said. Although the class may look easy at first glance, FaYoFlex can be difficult for some. “There are athletes who are super-muscular but can barely get through the class because myofascially they are so tight,” Wright said. Mobility is a topic that often gets mislabeled. It’s not the same as flexibility or stretching, although both will give you clues to a body part’s level of mobility. Rather, mobility is how the body moves on a daily basis. Having good mobility means being able to walk, sit, run and move the way your body was intended to. Kate Galliett, a fitness coach who focuses on mobility issues

at fitforreallife.com, said the concept that you can “fix” one part of the body without addressing the larger mobility issues is a misconception people have in dealing with aches and pains. “Everything really is connected. What happens at your foot certainly has influence in what is happening in your hips,” Galliett said. Kelly Starrett is a San Francisco-based coach and physical therapist whose new book, “Deskbound: Standing Up to a Sitting World,” focuses on improving mobility for office workers. He says a good test of mobility is to attempt a full squat, keeping your feet pointed forward and your weight on your heels, with a neutral spine and your calves touching your hamstrings. A good squat mobilization requires the

ankles, hips and spine to be free of restriction. If your mobility is lacking, the good news is that the body is dynamic and adaptable, so no matter your age or physical condition, it can be improved. To start, Starrett recommends focusing on getting enough sleep and walking more (with a neutral spine and your feet pointed forward), to reverse the damage caused by sitting at a desk all day. In aiming to loosen up the tightness, pick a trouble spot, such as the muscles and tissues around the shoulder blades, get a foam roller or a lacrosse ball and press your shoulder against it for five seconds, then release. Wait five seconds, then compress and release again. You’ll feel discomfort at first, but eventually the tissue will normalize. “You can have a pretty amazing conversation with your body,” Starrett said. Having that conversation is Wright’s goal in FaYoFlex. The body restores its range of motion, creating a looser body. And a loose body is a functioning body.

New findings out of Baylor University suggest that love of physical activity may start in the womb. The research team selected female mice that enjoyed running. (“Enjoyed”? Did they smile?) Half of them had access to running wheels during pregnancy; the other half didn’t. The mice with wheels voluntarily ran an average of 6 miles a night. The offspring of those mothers turned out to be about 50 percent more active than those born to mothers that hadn’t had the wheel option. That persisted into mouse adulthood. How does this relate to humans? In human studies, it wasn’t always clear whether active mothers who have active kids raised them to exercise a lot or whether there was a genetic predisposition to physical activity. Be there or be … a bad boyfriend? Q. My boyfriend wants to take a guys’ trip that conflicts with my parents’ 30th anniversary celebration. He’s known about the anniversary for a long time but is trying to get there a day late so he can do both. He will miss a significant chunk of the event. I am angry because I feel like I “booked” him for this event, and I don’t think he is valuing it as important. PLEASE HELP! A few things are unclear: whether he really committed to the weekend or just heard about it, and whether his guys’ trip is a momentous occasion or a routine occurrence. What’s more clear is the significant emotional importance of this family weekend to you. You won’t get anywhere, however, until you can take a step back and stop assuming that he’s not

valuing it as important. He’s just offering a solution that’s inadequate to you. You certainly have the winning case in my book, but until you can convey your feelings separate from your anger, and until you can acknowledge that you get that he’s making a sacrifice but it’s really, really meaningful to you, it will be hard to get him to budge.

You had me until the proposition that romantic prospects are so debilitated by your awesomeness that they shy away in a flurry of inadequacy. Are you seriously saying that multiple romantic prospects have actually told you they feel inadequate? There seems to be a lot of such exaggerated thinking here — like that you are “always” the source of your friends’ envy and that you can’t “ever” feel like they are on your side. That takes me from “Get some better friends” to wondering if you come across as much more arrogant than you realize. Millions buy Prince’ss songs in the wake of his death eath

A Pennsylvania appeals court has rejected Bill Cosby’s attempt to throw out his criminal case because of what he called a decade-old deal not to prosecute him. The state Superior Court ruled Monday that the criminal sex-assault case against Cosby can proceed. Cosby, 78, is facing trial over a 2004 encounter with a then-Temple University employee who says she was drugged and molested by the comedian. Cosby says they engaged in consensual sex acts. A former prosecutor has said he promised he would never prosecute Cosby and urged him to testify in the woman’s 2005 civil lawsuit. Cosby could potentially appeal again. (AP)

An eclectic cast is set for the reboot of the offbeat series “Twin Peaks.” Showtime released a complete cast list Monday that includes Naomi Watts, Richard Chamberlain, Jim Belushi, Michael Cera and Amanda Seyfried. They join “Twin Peaks” veterans Kyle MacLachlan, Sherilyn Fenn, David Duchovny and Harry Dean Stanton. The new “Twin Peaks,” set to debut in 2017, returns to the scene of the crime, a quaint Northwestern town, 25 years after the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer. Other newcomers include Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ashley Judd, Laura Dern, Ernie Hudson and Tom Sizemore. (AP)

The SDFCU 1st Time Homebuyer Mortgage consists of a first mortgage at up to 97% loan-to-value, and is available to homebuyers when at least one applicant is considered a first-time homebuyer (has not owned a home in the last three years). Minimum of 3% down payment is required. Available rates start at 4.00% APR (as of March 23, 2016) for 30-year fixed rate loans. Rates are subject to an applicant’s creditworthiness and may change on a daily basis. Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) will apply to loans with higher than an 80% loan-to-value ratio. Principle and Interest monthly payment of $1,360.63 and PMI MSample payment schedule based on a $15,000 down payment and a $285,000 30-year fixed rate loan at 4.00%: The total principal and interest monthly payment would be $1,360.63 and PMI monthly payment of $178.13 with a total monthly payment of $1,538.76. This sample payment do not include amounts for taxes or insurance premiums, if applicable. Therefore, actual payment obligations will be greater. PMI rates will vary based on the amount of down payment, an applicant’s creditworthiness, geographical area, insurer, and other factors. Other costs may be included due to program-specific circumstances. This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Additional terms and conditions apply. Visit sdfcu.org for additional details.

Beyonce’s emerging ladies get the spotlight

Quvenzhané Wallis

Harlow was a contestant on “America’s Next Top Model,” where she told Tyra Banks that kids used to “moo” at her when she was growing up because she has vitiligo, a condition that causes skin discoloration. Harlow appeared in “Lemonade” with a photo of her great-grandfather, in between pictures of the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown and Eric Garner holding photos of family members.

Oh, to be 12 and hanging out with Beyonce. That’s probably par for the course for Quvenzhané Wallis, the youngest actress in history to be nominated for an Academy Award. Wallis appeared in “Beasts of the Southern Wild” in 2012 and starred as “Annie” in the 2014 remake. In “Lemonade,” she’s shown holding hands with Jay Z and Beyonce’s daughter, Blue Ivy.

Here are some of the Beyonce-approved ladies worth knowing. JESSICA CONTRERA (THE WASHINGTON POST)

You may recognize Stenberg as the actress who played Rue in “The Hunger Games” movies. The 17-year-old is also a filmmaker who recently released “Blue Girls Burn Fast,” a short film about a girl in the foster care system — a project for her application to New York University, where she’ll soon attend film school. Stenberg is outspoken in interviews about her non-binary gender identity.

Do You Worry A Lot?

blog log “I didn’t think Rachael Ray was even Jay Z’s type. That must be some brisket.” @WIT_HAZE joins other bewildered Beyonce fans who thought the “Lemonade” lyric “Becky with the good hair,” apparently about the woman Jay Z cheated with, was about celebrity chef Rachael Ray. They were confusing Ray with fashion designer Rachel Roy, who posted a photo on Instagram about her “good hair” after the “Lemonade” premiere Saturday. Fans flooded Ray’s Instagram page with insults and emojis of bees and lemons, and threatened to never watch her show again.

“So, sure, this little guy is a jerk in need of stern parenting. But he’s also making a very valid point about the excess feelgoodery that surrounds a marathon.” KYLE KOSTER, a writer at thebiglead

.com, on the young boy who trolled runners at the London Marathon on Sunday by offering high-fives and then pulling his hand away. He quickly became an Internet sensation after the video went viral. Many praised his funny prank, while some runners thought it was inappropriate.

“Drake album cover hasn’t even been out an hour and the memes are ALREADY flying!”

“Really? Someone decided that #WorldPenguinDay would fall during the #StanleyCup playoffs?”

@TRAIN_FREEMAN on Drake’s

@WHITMANANDREW comments on Monday’s World Penguin Day, dedicated to the cute, waddling birds. But many took it to another level, noting that the salute to penguins came the day after the Washington Capitals advanced to the second round of the playoffs — and will face the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“Views From the 6” album art released Sunday night, which shows the Canadian rapper sitting atop Toronto’s CN Tower. The Internet responded with funny memes placing Drake in new locales, such as atop “Star Wars’” Death Star, and on feuding rapper Meek Mill’s shoulder.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20) You can benefit from a stroke of good fortune. Perhaps others would like to join you on this adventure. GEMINI (May 21-June 20) You’re coming to the end of a highly creative period, and you may find that it’s harder to do what came easy to you only a short while ago. CANCER (June 21-July 22) Give yourself a little more wiggle room, and you can surely prevail — especially if you learn to experiment the right way. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) You may be amazed to discover that what you’ve been hoping for all along is about to happen. MONDAY’S SOLUTION

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) You

mustn’t bring others down by harping on the little things that could be done better. Focus instead on what they’re doing right.

FOUR RACK TOTAL Make a 2-7-letter word from the letters in each row. Add points of each word using scoring directions at right. Seven-letter words get a 50-point bonus. Blank tiles used as any letter have no point value. Scrabble is a trademark of Hasbro in the U.S. and Canada.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) You may think it’s entertaining to do things a certain way, but the style you’re developing may not be suitable for the times. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) Common courtesy goes a long way. Others are more willing to give you what you need if you ask in just the right way.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) You may be in the middle of a slowdown that you don’t completely understand. Perhaps there is no real reason for it.

TODAY: A cold front pushes south, providing the spark for scattered showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder. Strong winds from the south keeps us warm and slightly more humid. The chance for showers continues through the evening and most of the night, especially for our southern suburbs.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) You are able to climb higher than you had anticipated, but take care. You’re entering a zone that offers danger. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) You’re about to begin something new, and you’re feeling prepared and eager to take those first few steps.
