Police in Ohio are searching for a man who’s been stealing plumbing from stores, hospitals and restaurants. Columbus police say the “Bathroom Bandit” enters establishments, visits the men’s restroom, disconnects the plumbing and leaves with the stolen parts in his backpack. A police department spokeswoman says the businesses won’t only have to replace the parts, but hire a plumber to repair the man’s toilet tinkering. (AP)

A Japanese court has found artist Megumi Igarashi, who made and displayed a kayak in the shape of her vagina, not guilty of obscenity, the BBC reported. The judge said the kayak didn’t look enough like female anatomy to offend. But Igarashi was fined about $3,700 because she shared data that others could use to make depictions of her nether regions. Japanese law forbids the public display of genitalia. (EXPRESS)

Skydivers in Colombia played a bout of Quidditch, the fictional sport from the “Harry Potter” books, before deploying their parachutes, UPI reported. The skydivers “rode” brooms as they pursued an inflatable version of a quaffle, a type of ball used in Quidditch. One diver caught the quaffle and threw it through a hoop, and the Quidditch portion of the stunt was over. The feat can be seen on YouTube. (EXPRESS)

Where are all the bees going? THE DISTRICT When her professor says it’s time, college student Gabby Discafani pumps the beehive smoker. The container exhales smoke that will calm the thousands of honeybees waiting in wooden boxes on the rooftop apiary (or bee hangout) at George Washington University. Soon they’ll be transferred into eight empty hives. Discafani leads a student bee research team overseen by biology professor Hartmut Doebel. Their goal? To see whether neonicotinoids, a type of chemical used to kill insects, are contributing to colony-collapse disorder — a deadly condition in which a colony of honeybees stops functioning. The disorder has caused over 40 percent of the world’s honeybees to disappear. That’s a serious problem. The U.S. Agriculture Department estimates that bees pollinate about 30 percent of our nation’s food. “Bees are very, very important,” Doebel says. “If we don’t have pollinators, the flowers cannot grow from generation to

generation, from year to year.” Discafani has been interested in the problem since middle school. “When I was in sixth grade, my science teacher got upset when she first found out about the bees dying,” Discafani says. “She asked us to write haiku poems about bees.” That moment stuck with Discafani. When she saw a flier at George Washington about an opportunity to help with the bee research project, she volunteered. As a research assistant and

Bee facts Almost all bees in hives are female. A single hive can produce up to 100 pounds of honey a year. One pound of honey represents about 55,000 bee miles flown and visits to about 2 million flowers. beekeeper, she helps perform experiments and care for the bees. On this sunny April day, five floors up on the roof of Bell Hall, Discafani pumps the smoke and then watches Doebel lightly spray the bees with sugar water to distract them during the transition from travel box to hive. Then it’s up to Discafani and the dozen or so other students to transfer the bees into the rest of the hives. They transfer the queen bee — who was kept in a small box — and then reassemble the hive and move on to the next one. Each hive can hold 60,000 bees. Doebel and his students will examine how chemical substances affect the “waggle dance” — that’s when a bee vibrates its abdomen to communicate to the other bees the direction and distance to a food source. Doebel hopes the team’s work will help save bees. He also hopes more people will learn about the plight of honeybees and admire them instead of fear them. “They are harmless,” he says. “If they sting, it’s because we made a mistake and they are letting us know. And if they get too close, they are only there asking if they can share your food.” KITSON JAZYNKA (THE WASHINGTON POST)

D.C. streak of consecutive rainy days breaks record It has rained a lot lately. That’s clear to anyone living in this soggy, sun-deprived region. Measurable rain (meaning at least 0.01 inches) has fallen in D.C. on a record 13 straight days, going back to April 27. This stretch breaks the previous record for the longest rain streak of 10 days, from both July 1938 and August 1873. The record may keep increasing, with rain forecast all week. (TWP)

Md. shooting suspect held without bond

Two Montgomery County residents were sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for their roles in a deadly 2013 highspeed crash that killed three members of a family, including a 4-year-old girl. The night of June 9, 2013, the drivers — Shaka Wakefield, then 25, and Audias Sanchez, then 36 — got in an impromptu race down Georgia Avenue, prosecutors said at their trial, reaching speeds as high as 106 mph. Their cars struck a 2000 Nissan, with four occupants, as the Nissan crossed Georgia Avenue. (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Harbor has failing grades in water quality again The Inner Harbor and tidal Patapsco River of Baltimore posted failing grades in water quality for the third consecutive year, according to The Baltimore Sun. The newspaper said that the report card by the Healthy Harbor Initiative for the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore found concerns with fecal bacteria from the city’s sewage system and pollutants that flow into the harbor after rain. City leaders had previously set a goal of turning the harbor into a swimmable and fishable area by 2020. (AP)

Clinton starts D.C. campaign for primaries The District will award some of the last handfuls of delegates in the Democratic primary contest, and many party leaders in the nation’s capital have already committed to Hillary Clinton for president, but the frontrunner isn’t taking any votes for granted, her campaign says. On Monday, Clinton’s campaign announced a leadership team for the District’s June 14 primary that includes two figures in her national campaign and another heavily involved in her string of victories across the South. Up for grabs in D.C. are about 45 delegates, with about 20 already pledged to Clinton. Early polling shows Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders could hit the 15 percent threshold to win at least a few of those delegates. AARON C. DAVIS (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Police: Weapon used in attacks should have been surrendered MARYLAND A federal security officer charged with killing three people, including his estranged wife, in a shooting rampage in Maryland should have surrendered all of his guns as a result of a protective order but didn’t, a prosecutor said Monday during a hearing in which the man was ordered held without bond. Eulalio Tordil of Adelphi, an employee of the Federal Protective Service, appeared in court by video Monday in Rockville. A public defender representing him, John Lavigne, conceded it wasn’t realistic to ask for the 62-year-old, who is facing first-degree murder and other charges, to be released at this point. In court, Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy called Tordil “very tough to track” after he shot his wife Thursday night at a high school. He was driving a rental car and had turned off his cellphone, McCarthy said. License plate reading devices showed that Tordil had driven all over the region and into Virginia as law enforcement officers searched for him, McCarthy said. Officials searching for him also learned he had left notes suggesting he was

suicidal and believed he would be killed by police, McCarthy said. On Friday, less than 24 hours after killing his wife, Tordil fatally shot two more people during apparent carjacking attempts before being caught, McCarthy said. The shootings took place at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, and at a nearby shopping center. In the mall parking lot, charging documents allege Tordil confronted a woman returning to her silver Toyota RAV4. When she yelled for help, two men approached and Tordil shot her and them, killing 45-year-old Malcom Winffel of Boyds, the document alleges. About a half-hour later, an officer responding to a report of shots fired in a nearby shopping

center found 65-year-old Claudina Molina of Silver Spring fatally shot inside her RAV4 in the parking lot near a supermarket, charging documents state. Tordil’s glasses were found inside Molina’s vehicle and were apparently knocked off in a struggle, McCarthy said. Tordil was later captured in an adjacent shopping center and the fact that he lost his glasses and couldn’t see to drive may have been why he stayed in the area, McCarthy said. McCarthy said the weapon Tordil used in Friday’s shootings, a .40-caliber Glock handgun, had been purchased before a protective order that required him to turn in his firearms and should have been handed over to law enforcement. Gray trials resume after delay Hearing begins today in Baltimore for one of the arresting officers BALTIMORE After a five-month pause, the Freddie Gray trials get underway again this week, with one of the arresting officers facing charges of assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office. A judge will hold a hearing today on several crucial motions that will influence the scope of the proceedings for Officer Edward Nero, and could significantly

limit what information about Gray’s arrest will be available during the trial, scheduled to begin Wednesday. Prosecutors have asked to push it to Thursday. Baltimore Circuit Judge Barry Williams will decide how much prosecutors and defense attorneys can talk about Gray’s troubled past. The officer is also requesting to exclude any reference to the legality of the folding knife found in Gray’s pocket when he was arrested April 12, 2015. Attorneys for Nero and the other officers say it was illegal and Gray’s arrest was justified.

Prosecutors say the knife was legal and Gray should never have been arrested. Gray, a 25-year-old black man, was placed in the back of a police wagon with his wrists in cuffs, but he wasn’t belted in with a seat belt, a violation of department policy. He suffered a critical spine injury in the van and died a week later at a hospital. Nero, Officer Garrett Miller and Lt. Brian Rice were the arresting officers who chased Gray after he made eye contact with one of them and took off running.

Now anyone can search the Panama Papers Some of the information from the Panama Papers, a vast trove of more than 11 million leaked documents that have cast a light into the shadowy world of offshore finance, is now available to the public for the first time. (Go to wapo.st/1s8ERXf) The documents come from Mossack Fonseca, a Panamabased law firm. An anonymous source gave the documents to German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which then recruited the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists to help lead a global investigation into the material. Media organizations have since uncovered offshore holdings of 12 world leaders, more than 128 other politicians and dozens of criminals. The revelations have sparked protests and led to highprofile resignations, including the prime minister of Iceland. The searchable database of nearly 214,000 entities from the Panama Papers — just a fraction of the total material — spans 40 years, from 1977

MANILA, PHILIPPINES A tough-talking mayor who has pledged to kill suspected criminals and end crime within six months looked set to become the next president of the Philippines after taking an unassailable lead in an unofficial vote count in Monday’s elections. The son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos had a narrow lead in the vice presidential race. Rodrigo Duterte, the mayor of southern Davao City, had secured more than 14.4 million votes, according to a count of 87 percent of precincts nationwide. The closest of his four main rivals, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, had 8.6 million votes. Final results are expected today. A victory by Duterte would amount to a massive political shift in the Philippines. Starting as an outsider, Duterte built his popularity with radical pledges to

eliminate poverty and end corruption and crime. He has a reputation for fighting crime as mayor of Davao for 22 years, but has been accused of ordering extrajudicial killings to achieve that. On Saturday, he made clear he intends to continue his hard-line approach. “All of you who are into drugs, you sons of bitches, I will really kill you,” Duterte, 71, a former prosecutor, told a rally. “I have no patience, I have no middle ground, either you kill me or I will kill you idiots.” Statements such as that have won him the nickname “Duterte Harry,” a reference to the Clint Eastwood movie character “Dirty Harry,” who had little regard for rules. He has also been compared to Donald Trump, the U.S. Republican presumptive presidential nominee. JIM GOMEZ AND TERESA CEROJANO (AP)

Kim Jong Un gets new title; 3 BBC journalists get boot

Krispy Kreme to join growing breakfast empire

A federal judge has ruled that the extradition to the U.S. of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman can move ahead, Mexico’s Judicial Council said Monday. But the country’s Foreign Relations Department must still approve it and the defense can appeal. The council said the judge, who it did not name, had agreed that the legal requirements laid out in the U.S.-Mexico extradition treaty had been met. The Foreign Relations Department has 20 days to decide. Any extradition attempt can be delayed or stopped by a request to the court by attorneys for the Sinaloa cartel leader. (AP)

North Korea’s ruling-party congress wrapped up its official agenda Monday by announcing a new Kim title for Kim Jong Un — party chairman — in a move that highlights how the authoritarian country’s first congress in 36 years was aimed at bolstering the young leader. The new title was announced during the 10 minutes that a small group of foreign media was allowed to watch the congress. Earlier Monday, three BBC journalists were expelled for allegedly “insulting the dignity” of North Korea. (AP)

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts said Monday that it has agreed to be acquired by a private investment company in a deal valued at about $1.35 billion, a move that would bring the sweet-treat chain into a growing breakfast empire. JAB also owns controlling stakes in chains Peets Coffee & Tea and Caribou Coffee, as well as Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, the company behind Einstein Bros. Bagels. A civil rights standoff Department of Justice, N.C. file dueling lawsuits over ‘bathroom law’ N.C. Gov. McCrory backed the state’s anti-LGBT law in a suit against the DOJ on Monday.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch said the law serves to “harm innocent Americans.”

The governor accused the Obama administration of rewriting federal civil rights law to protect transgender people’s access to bathrooms, locker rooms and showers across the country. “This is not a North Carolina issue. It is now a national issue,” said McCrory, a Republican who is up for re-election in November. Later in the day, the Justice Department responded by suing North Carolina, seeking a court order declaring the law discriminatory and unenforceable. Lynch spoke directly to residents of her native state, saying they have been falsely told

RALEIGH, N.C. A potentially epic clash over transgender rights took shape Monday when the U.S. Justice Department sued North Carolina over its new bathroom law. In unusually forceful language, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said North Carolina’s law requiring transgender people to use the public restroom matching the gender on their birth certificate amounts to “state-sponsored discrimination” and is aimed at “a problem that doesn’t exist.” She said it serves only to “harm innocent Americans.” Billions of dollars in state aid for North Carolina — and a potentially landmark decision regarding the reach of the nation’s civil rights laws — are at stake in the dispute, which in recent weeks has triggered boycotts and cancellations aimed at getting the state to repeal the measure, which took effect in March. Last week, the U.S. Justice Department said the law amounts to illegal sex discrimination and gave Gov. Pat McCrory until Monday to respond. McCrory instead doubled down by filing a federal lawsuit Monday arguing that the North Carolina law is a “commonsense privacy policy” and that the Justice Department’s position is “baseless and blatant overreach.”

by North Carolina proponents that the law protects vulnerable people from harm in bathrooms. “Instead, what this law does, is inflict further indignity on a population that has already suffered far more than its fair share,” she said. The law also excludes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people from state anti-discrimination protection and bars local governments from adopting anti-bias measures. Stars such as Bruce Springsteen have canceled shows in North Carolina over the new law. PayPal abandoned a planned 400-employee operation center in

Charlotte. Nearly 200 corporate leaders, including Charlotte-based Bank of America, have urged the law’s repeal, arguing it makes recruiting talented people difficult. N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper, a Democrat running against McCrory for governor, has also refused to defend the law. The U.S. Education Department could try to cut off money to North Carolina to force compliance. The state university system risks losing more than $1.4 billion in federal funds. An additional $800 million in federally backed student loans could also be at risk. Other states have proposed similar laws in recent months. On Monday, the American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi sued that state over a law that will allow workers to cite their religious objections to gay marriage to deny services to people. Lynch likened her agency’s involvement in the N.C. law to the shifting expansion of civil rights: “This is not the first time that we have seen discriminatory responses to historic moments of progress for our nation. We saw it in the Jim Crow laws that followed the Emancipation Proclamation. We saw it in fierce and widespread resistance to Brown v. Board of Education. And we saw it in the proliferation of state bans on same-sex unions intended to stifle any hope that gay and lesbian Americans might one day be afforded the right to marry.” EMERY P. Chris Christie’s bet on Trump starts to pay off POLITICS Gov. Chris Christie’s decision to endorse Donald Trump back in February brought him plenty of derision at the time. But it’s bringing rewards now that it’s clear he bet on the winner. With Trump having effectively clinched the Republican presidential nomination, Christie now sees vindication of what had been a divisive choice in his home state. Trump on Monday tapped Christie to lead the transition team that will usher in the new administration if he wins the presidency in the fall. It’s a plum post that could lead to more. “How did I go from being an idiot 68 days ago to prescient 68 days later?” Christie asked mischievously last week. Christie has been a key adviser to Trump behind the scenes as well as a presence on the stage. As chairman of the transition team, he will lead a wide-ranging effort to prepare for a potential transfer of power, giving him influence in the selection of White House and administration staff. Like almost everyone who becomes the subject of running-mate speculation, Christie says he doesn’t want to be vice president. But he adds, “Never say never.” Trump has said Christie would be a great attorney general, given his background as a prosecutor. For now, Christie is tasked with overseeing a team of people to “take over the White House,” as Trump put it in a statement. MICHAEL CATALINI (AP)

CAPITALS AT PENGUINS | GAME 6: 8 TONIGHT, NBCSN

Orpik back to stabilize the defense NHL PLAYOFFS With the exception of the top tandem of Matt Niskanen and Karl Alzner, Washington’s defensive pairings have been more fluid than the Capitals wanted for much of their second-round series against Pittsburgh. Depth defensemen Dmitry Orlov, Nate Schmidt and Mike Weber have all played at least one game, and sat as healthy scratches at least once. Schmidt and Weber made costly errors that led to Pittsburgh’s winning goals in Games 3 and 4. The constant changes were due in part to the absence of Brooks Orpik, who will return for Game 6 at 8 tonight (NBCSN) after serving a three-game suspension. “It’s been frustrating, but nothing I can do about it,” said Orpik, who was suspended for a hit to

the head of Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta in Game 2. The Capitals lost two of the games Orpik missed. The exception was Saturday’s 3-1 win in Game 5. Pittsburgh has a 3-2 lead as the series shifts to western Pennsylvania, where Orpik played 10 seasons before signing with the Capitals in 2014. “I’m sure I’m going to get a great reception from the fans there,” Orpik joked after practice Monday. “But it’s something you’ve just got to block out. I think if I was a younger guy it might rattle me a little more, but it’s just another game for me.” Orpik, 35, is expected to reunite with John Carlson on the second defensive pairing and provide a welcome boost of physicality and leadership. Based on practice Monday, Orlov and Taylor Chorney could form the third pairing, with Weber and Schmidt healthy scratches. Orpik, said coach Barry Trotz,

— consistency and reliability.” As the road team tonight, the Capitals won’t have the advantage of last change, meaning they won’t always get the desired matchup of Niskanen and Alzner against Sidney Crosby and the Pens’ top line. Orpik’s return gives Washington two strong pairings that can play big minutes. “He’ll be able to even everything out,” Alzner said. “We can get that physicality back in. ... And it’s good to have that mind in the game that’s played against so many of these players and knows the little details of their games and how to pick on that. Really, really big to have him back.” BEN RABY (FOR EXPRESS)

Roark proving his point as starter NATIONALS Lost in the defeat Sunday, in Bryce Harper’s walks and the Cubs’ walk-off, was Tanner Roark out-pitching Jake Arrieta. The Nationals’ right-hander did not factor in the decision; Six innings of one-run work was undone by a Cubs rally against the bullpen in the seventh. But Roark handled baseball’s most productive lineup without yielding an earned run, lowering his ERA to 2.03 — fifth-best in

the league as of Sunday night. “We lost, so it doesn’t matter what I did,” Roark said. “It matters what the team does. We battled and scratched and clawed, but it is what it is.” That’s Roark, generally deferential and team-oriented. But after being sent to the bullpen and being used in nearly every role last season, he showed a more overtly competitive side before this season. He said repeatedly that he wanted to start — as he did full-time in 2014 — that he thought he could be an asset as a starter, and that he wanted the chance to prove it again. Given the opportunity, Roark

despite high-stress situations? “Bear down and don’t give in,” he said. “Once you give in, that’s when they attack, so you just have to keep executing pitches.” Sunday, he relied on his twoseamer, which he painted on the outside corner, along with a sharp curve and solid slider and change. That mix has earned him a greater percentage of soft contact than any other Nationals starter, according to FanGraphs. Roark, 29, is just 2-2 partly because of weak run support. The Nationals have backed him with just 3.5 runs per nine innings, least among Washington starters. CHELSEA JANES (THE WASHINGTON POST)

STUDIES SHOW …

Stanley Holcomb, center, has built a loyal following at Fitness Evolution in Hyattsville, Md.

Age is just a number At 65, this Maryland kickboxing instructor credits a healthy lifestyle for his high kicks SENIORS Stanley J. Holcomb, 65, wraps his hands and slips on his kickboxing gloves, flashing a smile and a warm welcome to the women trickling into his class at Fitness Evolution in Hyattsville, Md. The regulars follow Holcomb’s lead, wrapping their hands as they prepare to kick and punch the air. Lean and spry, Holcomb bounces through a jab combination, staying light on his feet as women half his age try to keep up. Some stop to catch their breath. Others pause for a swig of water. But Holcomb keeps going. At an age when many people are sidelined by aches and pains, Holcomb is letting nothing slow him down. He teaches cardio kickboxing twice a week, even after knee and shoulder surgeries. “You have to listen to your body and pace yourself,” Holcomb said. “As you get older, you get a little wiser. I get regular checkups, eat small portions. It’s a lifestyle.” Holcomb has been enamored of martial arts since he saw Bruce Lee in the 1973 classic

“Enter the Dragon.” The power and artistry captured his imagination, but it wasn’t until he read an article about a karate studio in Silver Spring later that year that he decided to pick up the sport. Holcomb found a home at that Silver Spring studio, training under owner Kim Ki Whang until his death in 1993. “He understood a lot about character,” Holcomb said of Kim. “And his training taught me a lot about perseverance.” It is that fortitude that inspired Holcomb to open his own studio in 2000. But instead of carrying on his instructor’s tradition of karate and taekwondo, Holcomb tried another format he had grown to love: Tae Bo, a workout that blends rhythmic cardio and martial arts, without all the sparring. Holcomb became a certified Tae Bo instructor and opened the Washington Metropolitan Training Center in Laurel, Md. He taught 18 classes a week, but bills started piling up, as revenue from the $10 classes was not enough to cover expenses.

Although Holcomb closed up shop in 2002, he continued to teach classes around town and eventually landed at Fitness Evolution four years ago. He has built a loyal following of people such as Nicolia Gentles, 41, and Jackie Martin, 52. The sisters say they’ve rarely missed a class in nearly three years. And you can tell. The two were in lockstep with just about every move Holcomb made in a recent class, remaining on beat with the stream of ’80s R&B hits blaring in the background. “Stanley motivates us. He just keeps us going, even when you’re tired,” said Gentles, who lives in Hyattsville. The fast pace of Holcomb’s

class could easily wear anyone out, even the instructor. Holcomb prides himself on mastering the art of pacing — going full speed as he demonstrates, slowing down to coach and ramping back up to keep the energy in the room high. “I want people to have the same energy that I give,” Holcomb said. People such as 71-year-old Asma Rahman. She may not have delivered sky-high kicks, but Rahman never needed to stop during any of the combinations. It has been three years since the Brookland resident has made Holcomb’s class a staple of her Wednesdays and Saturdays. At this point in his life, Holcomb can’t imagine a time when he would give up his class. Teaching, he says, gives him a sense of purpose, whether it’s in a classroom or a studio. At his age, Holcomb said, “It’s hard to wake up in the morning sometimes. But when I get here and the music comes on, I’m ready to go. Seeing people reach their goals is rewarding.” DANIELLE

Live near the green A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives last month found that living in or near green areas can help women live longer. The health benefits are likely due to factors such as the improved mental health, social engagement and physical activity that come with living near green spaces. Harvard University researchers used data from the Nurses’ Health Study, which looks at risk factors for chronic diseases, from between 2000 and 2008. Using satellite data to assess green vegetation surrounding each participant’s home, researchers found that women living in the greenest places — i.e. those who had the most vegetation within 800 feet of their homes — had a 12 percent lower rate of mortality from non-accidental causes than people living in the least green places. We’re fighting, right on schedule Q. My boyfriend of five months and I are fighting a lot. I feel like all my relationships end the same way. At some point we get annoyed with each other and they fizzle out. I am 28 and have never had a relationship last more than eight months. Maybe it’s right for this relationship to end, but it feels like defeat or that something is wrong with my patterns with guys. DYSFUNCTIONAL? Maybe it’s the people you choose to have the relationships with. Perhaps you are picking people where there’s just physical spark and not true compatibility, leading to fundamental differences in day-today life starting to grate after a while. Or perhaps it’s the opposite — you’re choosing people where there’s not enough spark to get you through the little

annoyances of how low they want the thermostat. Do other relationships in your life — with family and friends — also start to fray over time? When fighting, do you behave in ways that aren’t good for you? The best way to thwart a pattern is to learn more about it, perhaps with a professional — not to stay in a bad relationship to try to prove it wrong.

Sometimes the people we love disappoint us, and this is understandably a doozy for you. But he is who he is, and needs to live his life in a way that feels best to him, cringe-worthy mistakes and all. His having started this relationship can’t be undone, and it seems he wouldn’t necessarily even want it to be. By all means, express your concerns. Tell him you’re worried for him, and that you’re hurt that he may be inflicting the same pain that you both had to endure on a new set of kids. But ultimately, he is himself and you are yourself. Giving him an ultimatum or otherwise stonewalling him would tear your relationship down rather than build it up. And the more you build it up, the better position you’ll be in to support him in making healthier choices. Send your questions for Baggage Check to Dr. Andrea Bonior at baggage@ wpost.com. Best-selling author Neal Bascomb shares highlights from his new book, The Winter Fortress, about the daring and successful commando raid in Norway to destroy Hitler’s nuclear ambitions.

In 1945, key Nazi leaders took a battery of psychological tests with controversial results. Joel E. Dimsdale, distinguished professor emeritus in psychiatry at the University of California San Diego, takes a fresh look at the findings, and what they mean to him, in his complex quest to make sense of extreme evil.

Preston Thomas, president of the DC Chapter of The Open Organisation Of Lockpickers, will lead this hands-on workshop on the art and science of covert entry. Learn the tools and techniques needed to open locks and get out of handcuffs and zip ties. Please remember to pick responsibly!

A new mini-exhibit commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Bundesnachrichtendienst in 1956. The exhibit traces the agency’s history from its surprising American roots in the 1940s and features rarely seen artifacts including vintage spy gadgets, concealment devices, historic photos, and documents, and a Wehrmacht Enigma.

crime — feels unwieldy on occasion, but like life and the criminal world (at least in fiction), there are many possible paths and false leads to be explored. Clark, who served as a prosecutor for the trial of O.J. Simpson, clearly knows this world well. She has the most fun when she’s showing readers the world of celebrity trials — from the media circus, the courthouse crowds, the crazies and the police to the inner workings of the trial itself. You’ll push yourself to finish the final pages just to keep pace with the defense team’s discoveries. JONATHAN ELDERFIELD (AP)

Ann Coulter’s next book will be a story of praise — for Donald Trump. Sentinel, a conservative imprint of Penguin Random House, announced Monday that Coulter’s “In Trump We Trust: The New American Revolution” will be published Aug. 23. Coulter will call on “conservatives, moderates, and even disgruntled Democrats” to unite behind the presumptive Republican nominee, whom Coulter has supported for months. (AP)

Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton and Cam are tied with three nominations each for the 2016 CMT Music Awards. All are nominated for video of the year. Underwood is also nominated for CMT performance of the year and female video of the year. In this story, Samantha Brinkman is a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer who’s struggling to pay her bills and keep her small firm afloat by working cases as the attorney of record. A shocking prime-time celebrity double-murder case lands in her lap when LAPD homicide detective Dale Pearson is accused of murdering TV star (and sometime drug addict) Chloe Monahan and her roommate, Paige Avner. After a brief hesitation over working on the side of a lawman, Brinkman jumps at the chance to defend Pearson. She works to dig up reasonable doubt and discover evidence to confuse the jury while facing visits from former defendants, deceptive witnesses and even her own client, who’s hiding a volatile secret of his own. TAURUS (April 20-May 20) You’re going to have to try to fit more into your day than you had planned, and this will require an earlier start than usual. GEMINI (May 21-June 20) Others may be giving lip service to something that is a concern of yours. Today you’ll have reason to tighten your belt a bit. CANCER (June 21-July 22) You will want to send regular reports to someone who is no longer in the thick of things, but who has a vested interest in what goes on. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) You’ll be lucky to get everything done on schedule, as much is likely to happen around you to keep things from going smoothly. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) Your productivity should not be affected by what anyone does either for or against you. You’re very much on your own.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) You may need a new way in if you want to get things going again with a group of compatriots.

TODAY: A lot like Monday, but the better chance of rain will be in the afternoon and evening compared with the morning. More hours than not, it won’t be raining. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with some breaks in the cloud cover possible at times. Showers will be reasonably likely in the evening (60 percent chance).

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) Plans that were the most solid are likely to be disrupted by unforeseen forces. That which was uncertain can certainly happen. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) You may not be able to make the best possible experience out of something that only gives you a fraction of what you expected.
