Bullet the bison is the bovine equivalent of Crazy Uncle Danny
A former Endeavor Air flight attendant has been charged with stealing nearly 1,500 mini-bottles of liquor from her job and selling them online. Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission investigators say 28-year-old Rachel Trevor would put the small bottles of rum, vodka, gin and whiskey in her bag after a flight, then sell them on Craigslist. Investigators said the bottles typically sell for $8 on flights, but Trevor sold them for $1 each. (AP)
An 8-year-old bison named Bullet has outgrown his Texas home and his owner wants to find a new place for the 1,000-pound pet to roam. Karen Schoeve, of Argyle, said Bullet is occasionally allowed inside the family’s house but needs more space and grassland, and that he’s tame and housebroken. She said Bullet is used to being around people, but warns that he should never be left alone inside a house or with kids. (AP)

FREDERICK, MD. Twenty-five years since its founding, Flying Dog Brewery is still striving to be innovative and original. Originality is what keeps the Frederick, Md.-based brewery, which is known for its unique beer and edgy label and carton designs, on the cutting edge of brewing and branding, said Flying Dog Brewery CEO Jim Caruso. When you’re being original and constantly experimenting, the chance of failure can be just as high as the chance of success, according to Caruso. “But if you’re doing that, the stuff that works — that is original — catches on,” Caruso said. For Flying Dog, originality has led to economic success. The brewery’s sales skyrocketed over 300 percent since 2008, and sales in the Mid-Atlantic region jumped more than 600 percent in eight years, according to Caruso. Today, Flying Dog employs more than 125 people, up from 24 people in 2006 when it first moved from Colorado to Maryland.

Flying Dog in Frederick stays unique and grows its ties to Maryland
Flying Dog Brewery CEO Jim Caruso, left, and brewmaster Matt Brophy pose with two of the more than 40 beers they produce in Frederick, Md.
“The Flying Dog that you see here … today is very much a Maryland phenomenon,” Caruso said. “For good reason, many people think that Flying Dog started here because it’s such a presence and we’ve grown so much.” However, Flying Dog Brewery began as a brewpub in Aspen, Colo., in 1990. Four years later, the company opened a brewery in Denver, where it remained until Flying Dog moved to Frederick. “The 10 years here has really been Flying Dog’s coming

25 years of strange brewing of age,” Caruso said. “It’s our adulthood. And it’s a very different facility and brand image than it was in Colorado.” New beers to Flying Dog’s selection include Mint Julep Ale, a blonde ale with mint leaves and honeysuckle for a bourbon taste released in April, and Tropical B----, a fruity twist on the brewery’s well-known Belgian style IPA beer Raging B---- to mark 25 years in business this January. Flying Dog’s Dead Rise Old Bay Summer Ale, which contains the famous Maryland spice, is a direct product of the brewery’s presence in the state, Caruso said. Some of the proceeds from it go to the state’s True Blue program, which aims to protect Maryland crabs. Flying Dog’s partnership with Old Bay is one of several Maryland initiatives the brewery has supported since moving to the state. The company also launched a partnership with the Department of Natural Resources to brew Pearl Necklace, a stout brewed with fresh oysters. “Our goal when we came here was to be an integral part of the community, to embrace the community as it has embraced us,” Caruso said. Lawyers plan to argue Va. man was unaware during McLean attack McLEAN, VA. The Virginia lawyer accused of invading a McLean couple’s home by using a Taser, holding them hostage for three hours, then slashing one victim’s throat and repeatedly stabbing the other plans to use the defense of “involuntary intoxication” at his trial, starting today in Fairfax County. Andrew Schmuhl of Springfield, a 32-year-old former judge advocate and military magistrate in the Army, attacked the couple because the man had recently fired Schmuhl’s wife from an Arlington law firm, Fairfax prosecutors said. The wife, Alecia Schmuhl, 31, waited outside and drove the rented getaway car after the incident, which ended when they were pulled over on the Capital Beltway and Andrew Schmuhl was found to be wearing only a diaper, according to police and prosecutors. The Schmuhls will be tried s e p a r ately, w it h A nd r ew Schmuhl going first. His lawyers

have said that he suffered a spinal cord injury in a 2012 accident. The defense’s pleadings state that they want a mental health expert to testify that the effects of various medications Schmuhl was taking caused him to be so intoxicated he was unaware of what he was doing during the three-hour assault on the McLean couple. The involuntary intoxication defense is not new, is rarely successful, and Virginia even has a specific jury instruction for judges to give when defendants make that claim, often in drunken driving cases. A number of Virginia lawyers said they were unfamiliar with anyone who had won an acquittal in the state, even in a drunken driving case, but there have been some effective involuntary intoxication claims elsewhere. A Columbia, Mo., woman who was convicted of causing a fatal wreck while driving the wrong way on Interstate 70 has been granted a new trial because she may have been secretly given a “date rape” drug before taking the wheel. Officer recounts Gray’s 2015 arrest In video shown at trial, Nero says 25-year-old didn’t show any injury BALTIMORE Freddie Gray was “flailing” and “screaming” during his arrest the morning of April 12, 2015, Officer Edward M. Nero told police investigators in a recorded video interview made later that day. But Nero, now on trial in connection with Gray’s arrest, said the 25-year-old showed no sign of physical injury or difficulty breathing. In the video, which was played during his trial Friday, Nero said Gray was “not huffing and puffing or anything like that. … He’s just screaming.” He said Gray resisted arrest and then banged around in a police van after he was loaded in without being secured by a seat belt. Gray was later found unconscious and bleeding in the back of the van; he died a week later, having never regained consciousness. Nero is among six officers facing charges related to Gray’s arrest and death. The videotaped account marks the first time that Nero’s version of the events of that morning have been made public. The two looming issues in Nero’s case are whether Gray’s

arrest was legal and whether the officer was responsible for seatbelting Gray inside the police van. The officer is charged with assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct. In the interview, Nero recalled chasing Gray with two other bike officers and arriving as Gray was being handcuffed. Nero said that after retrieving another officer’s bike, he helped restrain Gray. The interview was the key moment in the second day of testimony, as prosecutors continued to seek to show that Nero had no reason to arrest Gray and thus the arrest itself constitutes assault. The prosecution is set to continue its case today. RACHEL WEINER AND JOE HEIM (THE WASHINGTON POST)

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus did not mince words as he urged party figures laying the groundwork for a third-party bid to suspend their operation. “They can try to hijack another party and get on the ballot, but, look, it’s a suicide mission for our country because what it means is that you’re throwing down not just eight years of the White House but potentially 100 years on the Supreme Court and wrecking this country for many generations,” Priebus said on “Fox News Sunday.” A band of exasperated Republicans — including 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney, a handful of veteran consultants and members of the conservative intelligentsia — is actively plotting to draft an independent presidential candidate who could keep Trump from the White House. These GOP figures are commissioning private polling, lining up major funding sources — and courting potential contenders,
Efforts by some Republicans to field an alternate candidate have only increased since Donald Trump has effectively become the party’s nominee.
according to interviews with more than a dozen Republicans involved in the discussions. The effort has been sporadic all spring but has intensified significantly since Trump effectively locked up the Republican nomination. Those involved concede that an independent campaign at this late stage is probably futile, and they think they have only a couple of weeks to launch a credible bid. But these Republicans — including commentators William Kristol and Erick Erickson and strategists Mike Murphy, Stuart Stevens and Rick Wilson — are so repulsed by the prospect of Trump as commander in chief that they are desperate to take action. Priebus called the approach taken by House Speaker Paul
D. Ryan, R-Wis., who met with Trump on Thursday, “the better way to go,” adding that he would be surprised if Ryan did not endorse the presumptive GOP nominee soon. The party chairman also made a dig at Romney, saying he is “obsessing” unnecessarily over Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns. “People don’t look at Donald Trump as to whether he releases his taxes,” Priebus said on ABC’s “This Week.” “People look at Donald Trump and say, ‘Is this person going to cause an earthquake in Washington, D.C., and make something happen?’ That is it. That is how he is being judged by the American people.” (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Homicides spike in some U.S. cities FBI director suggests increased scrutiny of police may be a factor CRIME The number of homicides increased in the first months of 2016 in more than two dozen U.S. cities, going up in places that also saw spiking violence last year, according to statistics released Friday on the country’s biggest cities and counties. The increases were small in some areas, and many places had declines, including Montgomery and Fairfax counties. But the numbers were particularly grim for a handful of places — Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas and Las Vegas — where the number of homicides increased in the first three months of 2016 after killings and other violent crimes also went up in 2015. “Something people say to me, ‘Well, the increases are off of historic lows,’” FBI Director James B. Comey said. “How does that make any of us feel any better? I mean, a whole lot more people are dying this year than last year, and last year than the year before, and I don’t know why for sure.” Criminologists and law enforcement officials, including Comey, say the causes of the increases are unclear, and they offer a variety of possible explanations, including

gang violence and bloodshed stemming from drug addictions. Richard Berk, a professor of statistics and criminology at the University of Pennsylvania noted that even in cities where more killings are occurring, “those homicides are not randomly distributed around the city,” he said. “Crime, like politics, is local,” Berk said. “This stuff all occurs in neighborhoods on much more local levels. … It’s not about a city as a whole, it’s about neighborhoods.” Comey said he had trouble accepting that “there isn’t something broad” playing into what’s happening. He suggested that greater scrutiny of police had possibly changed the way officers and communities interact, which he said may be a factor in the uptick in homicides. going to be housed in some sort of educational setting. Then it really is worth something, in an aboveboard manner. For example, the derringer that John Wilkes Booth used to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln, as well as the bullet extracted from Lincoln’s brain, are both in D.C. museums. Nobody in America is better versed in the ethics of dealing in these sorts of things than Allan Stypeck, the proprietor of the District’s Second Story Books. When he’s not dealing with first editions of Faulkner, he’s a professional and forensic appraiser of rare and historical items. He’s done work for the Smithsonian Institution, the U.S. Holocaust
Memorial Museum and the Library of Congress. He appraised Booth’s derringer for $5 million. So does the Zimmerman’s gun have social “value”? Would he touch it? Tricky question, Stypeck says. The ethical question lies in the intent of the seller and buyer. If a client wanted him to appraise a notorious weapon for insurance purposes, to be housed in a museum that showcases the horrors of the crime — like the derringer — that’s fine. But, for him, to assess the same item for sale in an open market, that could mean profiting from an immoral object. And that’s untenable, he says. “That would be like asking me

For example, the Nazis used Holocaust-related objects to try to destroy European Jews. Today, such Holocaust-related items are housed in museums to instead show the savagery of the Nazis. It seems obvious that Zimmerman’s gun is of immense cultural merit. The national question concerns its ultimate destination, and how it is remembered. NEELY TUCKER (THE WASHINGTON POST)

CULTURE From serial killer John Wayne Gacy’s clown art to the Volkswagen in which Ted Bundy killed some of his victims, Americans have long been fascinated with the macabre aspects of sensational killings and the people who commit them. The low strata of this trade is “murderabilia,” the trafficking of sensational items from notorious crimes or killers. The online store Serial Killers Ink, for example, is currently offering letters and artwork from Charles Manson, as well as the confession signed by Ed Gein, the man whose skinpeeling killings inspired everything from “Psycho” to “The Silence of the Lambs.” This is the market that George Zimmerman is trying to tap into by selling the semiautomatic gun he used to kill Trayvon Martin in the 2012 Florida slaying that riveted the nation. Zimmerman was acquitted in a sensational trial. The gun is his property and, legally speaking, he’s free to sell it as he would any other personal item. And if the American past is any prologue, he’ll be able to sell it — though probably not for the bogus $65 million bids the weapon drew on an auction site over the weekend — because Americans have always been fascinated with murder. The flip side of the trade, though, is when a grisly item has historical significance and is
The German government is rushing to integrate hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers, including teaching the mostlyMuslim migrants about the joy of sex. Operating under the premise that many Syrians, Iraqis and others seeking asylum are naive about the predilections and pitfalls of the European boudoir, Germany’s Federal Center for Health Education has gone live with a sexual education website for adult migrants. Using highly graphic diagrams and images, the $136,000 site outlines everything from first-time sex to various ways to perform oral sex, anal sex and masturbation. The site also offers educational warnings on how to avoid sexually transmitted diseases and explanations on the need to respect gays and lesbians. The site, which went live in March, is available to anyone with the URL. But officials say it was devised to be disseminated by doctors and other medical professionals who are working with migrants. After a rash of sexual assaults allegedly committed by suspects including asylum seekers on New Year’s Eve, the Germans have been on a mission to re-educate migrants about sexual norms in the West. The site joins other initiatives, such as signs in public pools telling men not to grope women in bikinis. ANTHONY FAIOLA AND STEPHANIE KIRCHNER

A fitting start to Nats-Mets season series NATIONALS After becoming the fifth player in major league history to strike out 20 batters over nine innings, Nationals ace Max Scherzer faces another daunting challenge on Tuesday: defeating Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard. “Let’s just say that I’m happy that we had six days [between starts]” Scherzer said Sunday, four days after his record-tying performance in Washington’s 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers. While Scherzer (4-2, 4.15 ERA) was brilliant Wednesday, allowing six hits and no walks while throwing 96 of 119 pitches for strikes, Syndergaard has had the more consistent start to the season. With a fastball and sinker both averaging in the high 90s, the 23-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 2.53 ERA in seven outings. In his last, the same night as
Scherzer’s historic performance, he allowed two runs over eight innings on 95 pitches in the Mets’ 4-3 win over the Dodgers. “My God, he’s got unbelievable stuff,” Scherzer said. “We haven’t gotten to see it really in person, but obviously what he’s accomplished so far this season is very, very impressive.” At 31 years old, Scherzer says his own career is proof Syndergaard can keep the same kind of “stuff” for years to come. After winning the 2013 AL Cy Young Award and making two All-Star teams in five years in Detroit, Scherzer threw two no-hitters in his first season with Washington last year. He struck out 17 in his second no-hit bid, which was against the Mets at Citi Field on Oct. 3. “I’m still throwing just as hard as I did when I first came up,” Scherzer said. “So that kid’s going to be sitting there throwing this hard for years to come. You really hope that, you really wish good fortune that he stays healthy.”

Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer, top, and Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard both rank in the top 10 in the NL in strikeouts this season.
Marlins 5, Nationals 1 Jose Fernandez struck out 11 over seven innings and drove in two runs during a three-run sixth to help the Marlins defeat the Nationals on Sunday and split a four-game series in Washington. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 11th home run and survived an outfield collision with Marcell Ozuna that led to Ryan Zimmerman’s inside-the-park home run for Washington. J.T. Realmuto singled three times and scored twice for the Marlins. Nationals starter Joe Ross (3-3) allowed five runs — three earned — over 5 ⅔ innings. Fernandez (5-2) is now 5-0 with a 1.09 ERA in his career against Washington. (AP)
Tuesday’s high-profile pitching matchup at Citi Field opens the first series between the top two teams in last year’s NL East race. It also marks Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy’s return to New York. He helped the Mets win the division title and homered in six consecutive postseason games during their run to the World Series. “When you face your old team, it’s emotional,” Scherzer said of Murphy, who signed a threeyear, $37.5 million contract with Washington this offseason. “I just got to do it. You want to beat those guys. You’ve got friends, and you get a little extra juiced up for that.” IAN QUILLEN (AP)
He’s making $22.75 million in his second season in Boston. In his first, he hit just .249. But this year he’s hitting .319 and is on pace for 98 RBIs, which would be his most since 2009.
2 Victor Martinez, 37 Tigers designated hitter
He hit a career-low .245 in 2015. But the DH, who’s making $18 million this year, currently leads the AL with a .352 batting average.
1 Robinson Cano, 33 Mariners second baseman
He left the Yankees for a 10-year, $240 million deal with Seattle in Dec. 2013, but he hit just 35 homers in his first two seasons with the Mariners. This season, he has 12 homers in 37 games.

NBA PLAYOFFS When the Western Conference semifinal series between the Spurs and Thunder began, there were questions about whether the inconsistencies that had dogged the Thunder throughout the NBA’s regular season would come back to haunt it. After a blowout loss to the Spurs in Game 1, the Thunder began to look like a much different team. Its defense dramatically improved. First-year NBA coach in Billy Donovan made several key adjustments. Trailing heading into the fourth quarters of Games 4 and 5, the Thunder came back and won each contest. “I think, just throughout the season, we were still learning who we were as a team,” Kevin Durant said after Thursday’s series-clinching Game 6 win. In the Western Conference finals, which begin tonight (9, TNT), Oklahoma City has to continue to grow as a team if it’s going to defeat the defending champion Warriors. It will also require a completely different look than what beat San Antonio. Donovan’s key adjustment in

SOCCER A fake bomb left behind during a security exercise led police to evacuate Manchester United’s home stadium on Sunday, disrupting the final day of the English Premier League season and bringing embarrassment to one of the world’s best-known sports teams. Police initially described the device as “incredibly lifelike” as Manchester United’s planned match with Bournemouth was postponed, to boos from some fans, and a controlled explosion was carried out. But hours later, bomb technicians reported it was a fake. And a later statement by police said the device had been inadvertently left in a toilet during an earlier training exercise involving sniffer dogs. The series of events Sunday came amid tightened security at Premier League stadiums following last year’s Paris attacks that targeted the Stade de France stadium as well as cafes, bars and a concert hall. It also followed the British government’s announcement Wednesday that it was raising the nation’s threat level due to intelligence indicating the “strong possibility” of attacks in Britain by factions of the outlawed Irish Republican Army. The Premier League has rescheduled the match for Tuesday. Sunday’s match was the first Premier League game to be postponed because of a bomb threat. STEVE DOUGLAS (AP)

MUST-SEE THIS WEEK
1 ‘Megyn Kelly Presents’ 8 p.m. Tuesday on Fox
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is a guest on Megyn Kelly’s new primetime show. Michael Douglas, Laverne Cox (“Orange Is the New Black”) and lawyer Robert Shapiro also appear.
He’s not doing LBJ halfway Bryan Cranston reprises his Tony-winning role in HBO’s ‘All the Way’ TELEVISION Bryan Cranston has been able to put an original stamp on every big role he has played, whether as clownishly manic Hal on “Malcolm in the Middle” or his recent Oscar-nominated turn as blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo or, most indelibly, diabolical Walter White on “Breaking Bad.” He even got to do Ibsen onstage, in “A Doll’s House.” Another facet of this bornto-perform skill set is about to be revealed to TV viewers, as Cranston reprises his Tonywinning portrayal of the nation’s 36th president, Lyndon Baines Johnson, in HBO’s film version of playwright Robert Schenkkan’s “All the Way.” Premiering Saturday at 8 p.m., the movie, directed by Jay Roach from a screenplay also written by Schenkkan, has an impressive supporting cast that includes Anthony Mackie as the Rev. Martin
Luther King Jr., Bradley Whitford as Sen. Hubert Humphrey, Melissa Leo as first lady Lady Bird Johnson and Frank Langella as a wily Southern Democrat, Sen. Richard Russell of Georgia. The movie, like the stage version, which won the 2014 Tony Award for best play and is now receiving its Washington premiere at Arena Stage, drills deeply into a Capitol Hill subject rarely excavated in popular entertainment: the passage of a bill. Johnson would in the year after the assassination of John F. Kennedy tirelessly pound tables, pester allies and prod opponents in a quest to win approval of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, a gigantic governmental leap forward in eradicating the nation’s Jim Crow laws and racial discrimination. It’s quite a ways from the teacher-turned Albuquerque meth king that Cranston, 60, played on AMC’s “Breaking Bad” — which is exactly what he was looking for the year after the show ended. “Heisenberg and ‘Breaking

His impression of Johnson at the time was that history had not been kind to him. “When I first started this, my recall of his legacy was that of failure,” Cranston says. “All the Way” restores some luster to his legacy, by illuminating his tenacity both on behalf of

the Civil Rights Act, and for his own full term against Republican Barry Goldwater in the landslide election of 1964. As LBJ, Cranston musters the charisma mixed with insecurity and pain of a leader who defied expectations. Cranston had some more help bringing LBJ to life, specifically a prosthetic chin, nose and cheeks, as well as 2½ -inch lifts in his shoes to bring his 5-foot11-inch frame more in sync with Johnson, who was 6-foot-3½. But the actor already bears an uncanny physical resemblance to the former president. “There are two features that I share with Johnson: thin lips and beady eyes,” Cranston says. “Two qualities that any man would love to have.” To Roach, who also directed him in last year’s “Trumbo,” Cranston embodied what was most important for “All the Way” to convey: “I felt like this is a man who believes in what government can do to right the injustices and improve the quality of people’s lives,” Roach says. Get smart: Hawking shows us how we can be geniuses, too On his new PBS show “Genius by Stephen Hawking,” the famed physicist says anyone can “think like a genius.” On each of six episodes (9 p.m. Wednesdays, two episodes airing this week), Hawking poses a big question to ordinary people, like: “Can We Travel Through Time?” and “Why Are We Here?” Hawking is sure they can find answers by “using the power of the human mind.” Time travel is topic No. 1. Hawking presents challenges to the amiable volunteers, who seem pretty smart, if you ask me. Given three random
numbers that lead to a New York City party, they discern that two are intersecting streets and the third is the floor of the building. Only they’re late. So they learn what Einstein discovered: Time and space are linked. In another experiment, the volunteers drive DeLoreans around a parking lot, where they come to understand that — spoiler alert — you can’t travel back in time because various versions of yourself can’t pop up out of nowhere. But what about the future? When gravity is warped, time speeds up, Hawking explains. That happens at a black hole and on Earth, too, at higher altitudes. Two participants take

an atomic clock to the peak of a 9,091-foot mountain. The other volunteer has a clock at Tucson, Ariz., elevation 2,357 feet. After 24 hours, the mountain clock was a 20th of a billion of a second faster. So by driving up to the peak, the volunteer in Tucson traveled into the future! The show is definitely thought-provoking. But despite what Hawking says, I’m not sure I’ll ever think like a genius. A science historian on the show explains how 17thcentury mathematician Rene Descartes spent mornings in bed because that’s where he’d dream up his best ideas. One day he saw a fly on the ceiling and realized he could pinpoint its location with two numbers — on a horizontal axis and a vertical axis. When the fly flew down, he realized he’d need a third number to locate the fly — time! Me, I would have swatted the fly.

@MATTYG7G was one of many on the Internet who reacted sarcastically to Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, telling a Quebec newspaper that she felt overwhelmed in her high-profile role and needed a team to assist her. In the Canadian system, no official status is reserved for the role of first lady, leading many taxpayers to oppose directing more public funds for the former TV presenter and yoga instructor. Others expressed support for Trudeau’s request for help and acknowledged her many unpaid public appearances.
“I’ve gotten really good at ignoring people. That is the theme of the last two years. So I’m all right.” STEPHEN CURRY, who was named
the first unanimous MVP in NBA history this year, his second year winning the title, responds to reporters about comments by four-time MVP LeBron James. While Curry deserved the award, James said, a different conversation could be had when addressing how “valuable” a player is, which some took to be a backhanded comment.
“My favorite part is their matching track suits. So cute together.” ONEMADCLOWN, a commenter on rawstory.com, reacts to a mural
painted on the side of a Lithuanian eatery depicting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump locking lips with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The painting by Mindaugas Bonanu is inspired by the iconic 1979 photograph of Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and East German President Erich Honecker greeting each other with a kiss on the lips. Bonanu has commented on the similarities between the two politicians.

“Aniya, I love your suit. Would u like to wear it on Sunny?” ROB MCELHENNEY, star and creator of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” tweeting at high school student Aniya Wolf, who was thrown out of her prom last week in Harrisburg, Pa. Wolf wore a suit, disobeying a last-minute dress code that mandated all female students wear dresses. McElhenney added that the show needs “a little extra style and class,” which Wolf agreed to supply.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20) You have your eyes on someone who has inspired you in the past. The closer you get, the more you think that something big is happening. CANCER (June 21-July 22) You may have to stop one thing in order to do another. You can’t accomplish things in a linear fashion at this time. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) You have the recipe for success, but you may not have all you need in the larder. It’s time to gather the essential ingredients. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) You’re doing your best to keep your emotions in check, but something transpires that brings a lot to the surface.

FRIDAY’S SOLUTION
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) You’re usually perfectly happy doing most things entirely on your own, but today you’re in the mood to enjoy the social aspects of your job. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) There’s no secret potion that can win you what you want; you must work for it. Much depends on a clear assessment of your abilities.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) Confidence is essential, but overconfidence can actually do you a great deal of harm.
TODAY: Just in time to head back to work, we get our nicest day in some time. Skies are mostly sunny as high pressure briefly takes hold. Temperatures respond well, reaching highs in the mid-60s to near 70. Westerly winds continue at 10-15 mph. Skies trend cloudier again tonight as a warm front starts to close in.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) You have a chance to put things in order the way you have long imagined them. Failure is only likely if you try to take a shortcut. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) You may be used to going it alone, but you know that only so much is possible without those you have recently come to trust.

Mariah Carey shared updates on her upcoming nuptials with People magazine ahead of the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday. The owner of the Nevada brothel where Lamar Odom was found unresponsive last year has invited the former basketball player and husband of Khloe Kardashian back for another visit. Love Ranch owner Dennis Hof told TMZ he would enforce a strict no drugs policy for Odom, who spent months in the hospital after overdosing at the ranch in October. Hof suggested that “companionship” could have a positive effect on Odom’s recovery. “First night and 2 girls are on me, plus all the Remy Martin you can drink,” Hof said of his offer to Odom. He added that he would shut down security cameras to ensure Odom’s privacy. (EXPRESS)
