EMERGENCY CALLS

‘See, Mom, I did need those sword lessons to be a cashier’

419.9 is even funnier than 420. If numbers can be funny, that is.

‘Hello, 911? It’s Bob from two cubes over. Was that a bedbug?’

Two ninja-clad teens armed with a machete and expecting an easy robbery at a Pittsburgh convenience store got a shock when a cashier pulled out a sword. Surveillance video shows the teens entering Perry Market on Friday. Cashier Jewad Hayih pulled out a sword and knocked the machete out of one teen’s hand. A customer grabbed the second suspect, but he broke free and both teens ran away. (AP)

If you’re looking for milepost 420, you won’t find it in Idaho. State transportation officials say the mile marker on U.S. Highway 95 has been replaced with a 419.9 sign to curb thieves eager to own a number associated with marijuana. States such as Washington and Colorado also have replaced 420 signs with 419.9 after consistently having to replace them. So far, this is the only 420 sign the Idaho officials have replaced. (AP)

How much does it cost to get rid of a single bedbug? At an emergency dispatch center in Pittsburgh, about $12,000 so far. A dispatcher found one bedbug Friday at Allegheny County’s 911 center and the county shelled out $12,000 to Terminix to set 140 traps, which caught no bugs last weekend. “We err[ed] on the side of caution because our employee safety is just as important as public safety,” a spokeswoman said. Five finalists for design of memorial

Bringing together Ravens, Redskins fans

The current memorial at Pershing Park in D.C. would be integrated into the new WWI memorial.

Plaza to the Forgotten War This simple concept relies on a series of pylons with text and images to convey the memorial’s theme, rather than sculptural forms. Notes from the jury called the concept “simple, elegant and open” with an integrated form and meaning that “reveals itself in layers.” The existing Pershing memorial would need to be integrated as the design evolves.

Heroes’ Green

World War I Memorial

A dense, wooded park would be created with images set into the landscape. Paths would guide visitors through the memorial. ”The concept seamlessly blends memorial, park and garden into a new type of public space,” according to the competition report. “The sculptural landscape in itself is symbolic, memorable and will provide a welcome respite.”

With a style inspired by the time of the “Great War,” this neoclassical design is traditional. It includes an oval memorial space centered in a trapezoidal park. The memorial includes a victory tower monument. According to the competition notes, “the space and elements combine to create a narrative about the current condition and the historic precedent of monuments.”

Five design concepts have emerged in a competition to build a new national World War I Memorial in Washington, with ideas ranging from neoclassical architecture to a portrait collage of the “American family.” The site, the dilapidated Pershing Park, currently includes a memorial to John J. Pershing, who led the American Expeditionary Force into Europe in 1917. The existing memorial would be integrated into a new design. Here’s a look at the five finalists. BRETT ZONGKER (AP) An American Family Portrait Wall in the Park Photographs are at the center of this unconventional design with a concept focused on paying tribute to servicemen and women of World War I through photographs embedded in the park. The designers wanted to show the full scale of the war. Bronze sculptures would draw visitors to the pictures.

David Biddison continues to do his part to bring Baltimore and Washington sports fans together in the name of free furniture. The general manager at the Marlo stores will reimburse customers for all purchases at the outlets in Alexandria; Forestville, Md.; Laurel, Md.; Rockville and Fredericksburg, Va., from Aug. 17-23 if the Redskins or Ravens return the game-opening or second-half kickoff for a TD in Week 1. The Weight of Sacrifice

Apparently D.C.’s spirit emoji is … the snowman?

A platform built at the center of the park would reclaim paved space as parkland. The walls would be sculpted with images telling the story of World War I. The designer proposed images depicting a timeline of major events in the war. ”The subtleness and art of the sculpted relief walls will enhance the narrative of the place — utilizing art as architecture,” according to the competition notes.

After analyzing more than 1 billion emoji data points in their vast emoji database, keyboard app SwiftKey has determined that D.C.’s most uniquely used emoji is … the snowman. In a city that basically shuts down for anything more than 4 inches of snow. Virginia’s unique emoji was a frog while Maryland’s was a pair of pants. If you want to know what your own spirit emoji is SwiftKey will be rolling out that feature soon. (TWP)

Police discover body in woods in Southeast D.C. police are investigating after a body was discovered Wednesday morning in woods behind a residential neighborhood in Southeast Washington, according to a department spokeswoman. Homicide detectives were on the scene in the 3000 block of Stanton Road SE off Suitland Parkway near Barry Farm, but few details were available. Police would only describe the case as a death investigation, and would not say how the person may have been killed. (TWP)

Looks like Bao Bao may be a big sister The National Zoo said Wednesday that experts believe they have spotted a developing fetus inside its giant panda female, Mei Xiang, below. Based on the size of the fetus, which is about four centimeters, veterinarians estimate Mei Xiang, Bao Bao’s mother, could give birth next week, or possibly in early September. The fetus was spotted by chief zoo veterinarian Don Neiffer during an ultrasound. He said he spotted what appeared to be rib cage and cranial structure. “Everything points to this being a really healthy normal pregnancy at this point,” he said. “I am expecting this to progress nicely.” (THE WASHINGTON POST)

MVP PROTECTIVE SERVICES

Marilyn Richardson hugs Alyssa Rhine, 9, on Wednesday before funeral services for Leonard B. Robinson, better known as the Route 29 Batman.

‘You will be with us for the rest of our lives’ ‘Route 29 Batman,’ who visited sick children in hospitals, remembered MARYLAND The world knew Leonard B. Robinson as the Route 29 Batman, a larger-than-life character who dressed as the Caped Crusader to delight sick children in hospitals. But to his three sons, Robinson was LBR, a real-life figure even more captivating than the superhero he portrayed. On Wednesday, at Har Sinai Congregation outside Baltimore, Justin Robinson, 23, and his 21-year-old twin brothers, Jake and Brandon — their yarmulkes stitched with the word “Batman” — celebrated their father’s life with stories that made hundreds of people in the

packed synagogue laugh. Some of those mourners had arrived in Batman gear as a tribute to Robinson. He died Sunday night on a Western Maryland highway when he pulled over in his sputtering Batmobile and it was struck by another car as he was checking the engine. The deluge of sorrowful messages from around the world has overwhelmed his grieving sons, siblings, nieces and parents. Brandon called it a “testament to all the work that he has done and the impact that he had on everyone around him.” Robinson became famous three years ago after he was pulled over on Route 29 in a black Lamborghini and full superhero garb. Robinson, who was 51, loved kids, cigars and cars, his sons said. And he was meticulous

about the cars. “If you lived on Red Maple Court,” Justin remembered, “or really anywhere within a threemile radius, and you heard a loud, obnoxious speaker blasting disco music accompanied by a cloud of cigar smoke, you knew it was, in fact, LBR washing his car outside.” Robinson worked closely with Hope for Henry, a D.C. organization that helps sick children. Founded by Laurie Strongin and Allen Goldberg after their son Henry died from a rare disease, the group threw superhero parties in hospitals. “LBR/Batman/Dad,” Justin said, “we are truly going to miss you, but at the same time, we know that you will be with us for the rest of our lives.” JOHN WOODROW COX (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Ex-officer is denied bail in Fairfax murder case FAIRFAX COUNTY A former police officer charged with murder for shooting and killing a man during a domestic disturbance call collapsed Wednesday in a northern Virginia courtroom after being denied bail in his initial court appearance. Adam Torres, 32, of Culpeper, fainted toward the end of a 20-minute hearing as lawyers discussed a possible December trial date. After standing for several minutes Torres collapsed, first hitting a chair before landing flat on his back. One bailiff cleared the courtroom and another checked Torres’ vital signs as Torres lay on the floor with eyes closed. The sheriff’s office declined to comment on Torres’ condition. A

sheriff’s deputy was overheard telling Torres’ mother that he was alert several minutes after he fainted, and Commonwealth’s Attorney Ray Morrogh said he believed Torres was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Torres killed John Geer, 46, of Springfield, in August 2013 after a report of a domestic dispute.

Witnesses, including other officers, said Geer was unarmed and had his hands up when he was shot. Torres told investigators he thought Geer might have a weapon hidden in his waist, and that he was concerned Geer might reach for a gun that he had previously set down at his feet. The two-year delay between the shooting and Monday’s indictment led to allegations that Fairfax County was stonewalling the investigation. At Wednesday’s hearing, defense lawyer John Carroll urged the judge to authorize Torres’ release on $25,000 bail. He said Torres has lived in northern Virginia since he was a child and is not a flight risk. Torres’ prosecution marks the first time that a Fairfax County police officer has faced criminal charges for an on-duty shooting. MATTHEW BARAKAT (AP)

Jared Fogle, who will face two formal counts, leaves the Federal Courthouse in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

‘Jared’ will plead guilty to sex acts with minors arranged for Fogle to visit schools and urge children to adopt healthy eating and exercise habits. Authorities said Fogle offered to pay adult prostitutes a finder’s fee if they could connect him with minors for sex acts, including some as young as 14 or 15 years old. A tight-lipped Fogle sat in federal court with his hands clasped and quietly answered “no” when the judge asked whether he had any questions about his rights. He is expected to enter the formal plea at a later date to one count each of traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and distribution and receipt of child pornography. The agreement released by prosecutors said Fogle will pay

Ex-Subway pitchman could go to prison for more than a decade INDIANAPOLIS Longtime Subway pitchman Jared Fogle agreed Wednesday to plead guilty to allegations that he paid for sex acts with minors and received child pornography in a case that destroyed his career at the sandwich-shop chain and could send him to prison for more than a decade. Prosecutors allege that Fogle knew the pornography had been secretly produced by the former director of his charitable foundation, which sought to raise awareness about childhood obesity and

$1.4 million in restitution to 14 minor victims, who will each receive $100,000. He will also be required to register as a sex offender and undergo treatment for sexual disorders. The government agreed not to seek a sentence of more than 12½ years in prison, and Fogle agreed not to ask for less than five years, according to court documents. Fogle “knows that restitution can’t undo the damage that he’s done, but he will do all in his power to try to make it right,” defense attorney Jeremy Margolis told reporters. The married father of two, he added, has a “medical problem” and “expects to get well,” but he did not elaborate. RICK CALLAHAN (AP)

5 big mistakes in Hillary’s spat with Fox News

Seeking the real Hillary

Hillary Clinton held a press availability in Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon. It did not go well. She got into a back and forth with Fox News Channel’s Ed Henry over the private email server she exclusively used during her time as secretary of state. Here’s what she did wrong.

Two recent exchanges caught on video offer glimpses of an unguarded presidential candidate

She insisted she was not in legal jeopardy. But there’s a difference between a court of law and one of public opinion. Clinton won’t grasp that because she isn’t being charged doesn’t mean it doesn’t raise doubts with voters.

POLITICS Over the course of her campaign for president thus far, there may be no more complete look at Hillary Rodham Clinton than comes from two recent moments, both captured on video. The first is a dimly lit clip of a tense backstage exchange with young activists from the Black Lives Matter movement. In it, the frontrunner for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination was what her admirers say she is — and what the public rarely sees in the highly scripted environment of her campaign. That Hillary Clinton was candid, blunt and pragmatic. She showed respect and empathy for the movement leaders’ concerns, as well as their life experiences. But she coached them to come up with a concrete set of policy goals because “in politics, if you can’t explain it and you can’t sell it, it stays on its shelf.” The day after the video was released, Clinton showed another side, and a familiar set of traits that could undercut her efforts

to win the White House. In a news conference where reporters grilled her about the growing controversy over her use of a private email system while she was secretary of state, Clinton was caustic and defensive. She punctuated her responses with exaggerated, exasperated shrugs. Asked if she had wiped clean her personal server before turning it over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Clinton said: “What, like with a cloth or something?” Both episodes showed, for better or worse, an authentic version of Clinton — and a glimpse of what kind of president she would be. She did not give the Black Lives Matter activists all they wanted — particularly when they pushed her to shoulder some of the blame for the large share of African-Americans in prison, suggesting policies such as the 1994 anti-crime law signed by her husband, former president Bill Clinton, didn’t help their cause. “I’m not sure I agree with you,” she said. She was engaging and

The proportion of Democratic voters that say they support Clinton for the party’s nomination, down 9 points since July and just 6 points ahead of Donald Trump, according to a new CNN/ORC survey. About 56 percent said Clinton did something wrong by using a private email server during her time as secretary of state. (TWP)

sure enough of herself to declare that she would not pander. Meanwhile, the controversy over Clinton’s private email system, which is now the subject of an investigation by the FBI, and the question of whether it compromised national security by putting sensitive information into channels that were not secure — plays to another set of her reflexes: her privacy. Much of her public life has been a struggle to come to terms

with the fact that privacy is an unrealistic expectation on the national stage. In 1994, questions about her family’s financial dealings became so intense that she had to hold a 68-minute news conference to address them. “I’ve always believed in a zone of privacy,” Clinton lamented then. Yet there were still echoes of that old resistance at Tuesday’s news conference. She was asked about her decision to delete from her email account more than 30,000 missives that she deemed private before turning in copies of what was left to the State Department last December. “Look, my personal emails are my personal business. Right?” she said. But if Clinton were elected president, she would not get the kind of discretion that she now claims in determining what is public and what is private. But will she get a chance to write her own presidential legacy? That may depend on whether Americans see more of her hardnose and less of her thin-skin. KAREN TUMULTY (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Clinton elides over these two facts: 1) She is the only secretary of state to exclusively use a private email address and server on the job, and 2) she is running for president in 2016.

From the start, she is quite clearly annoyed with the line of questioning and is unable to mask that fact. She doesn’t believe that this should be a story. But that’s not her decision to make.

Clinton’s response to whether she “wiped” the server — “with a cloth or something?” — is bad politics. People dislike sarcasm from their politicians.

“Nobody talks to me about it other than you guys,” she told a reporter as she was leaving the conference. But new polling data suggests her handling of her email server concerns a lot of voters.

THREE POINTERS

MVP race heating up

RICK SNIDER | SPORTS GURU

Ready for second look Washington’s defense looked better up front during training camp, but can the secondary stop Detroit quarterback

The Nationals’ free fall could hurt Bryce Harper’s MVP chances. Here are three candidates on potential playoff teams who are right on Harper’s heels in the MVP race.

Matthew Stafford from connecting with Calvin Johnson for big plays? Here are a few things to watch tonight:

JEFFREY TOMIK (EXPRESS)

REDSKINS COACH JAY GRUDEN MAY NOT PLAY STARTERS past the first quarter tonight (7:30 p.m., NBC/CSN) against

the Detroit Lions at FedEx Field, which will likely be a half-empty venue. The Redskins enter their second preseason game with plenty of questions — especially with newcomers having to step up to fill gaps left by injuries.

3 Andrew McCutchen Pittsburgh Pirates

THE WASHINGTON POST/AP

The 2013 NL MVP entered Wednesday tied for third in the league in RBIs (78) as the Pirates held a comfortable lead in the wild-card race.

Soft secondary

Tight ends

Brandon Scherff

Punt returns

Colt McCoy

Between injuries and uncertain play, the Redskins were often 5 to 10 yards off receivers in the preseason opener at Cleveland. The one time cornerback Chris Culliver challenged a receiver he was whistled on a questionable pass interference penalty. Sure sounds like last year. Now, Washington will face Calvin Johnson, who is virtually impossible to single-cover. His 77 receptions in an injury-riddled season last year were second to teammate Golden Tate’s 99. Look for Washington’s line to help jam Johnson and play safeties back to assist corners.

You can probably name more former Redskins tight ends (Chris Cooley, Fred Davis) than the ones playing tonight. With Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen already on injured reserve and Jordan Reed once again sidelined with an injury, the Redskins are wide open at tight end. They signed two more this week to add to three unproven players already on the roster. Je’Ron Hamm has the best hands of the bunch and may be the early leader. Chase Dixon may be the better blocker. The Redskins will use fullbacks more and may even go to tackle Tom Compton for outside blocking.

The fifth overall pick is now playing guard and looking pretty good. The experiment at right tackle was short-lived because Scherff doesn’t have the horizontal reach to stop outside pass rushers. His balance still needs improvement, but he’s less exposed at right guard. Scherff has so much upside the Redskins don’t regret using a No. 5 pick on a guard when they could have instead chosen a more valued pass rusher, like Leonard Williams, and found a guard in the second round. The Redskins need good players wherever they come.

Enough with Andre Roberts as the punt and kicker returner. He wasn’t especially good at either last season, averaging 23.7 yards on kicks and 7.4 yards on punts. By season’s end, the Redskins were trying anybody on returns hoping for a big play. Roberts is a decent third receiver, but the Redskins hope to give rookie returner Jamison Crowder a chance. Crowder is a faster version of former Redskins returner Brandon Banks, but he hasn’t been healthy and will sit out vs. the Lions. Maybe Chris Thompson will show something tonight.

The quarterback would have ended last season as the starter if he wasn’t injured, but he’s now clearly No. 3 behind Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins. After a mediocre offseason and training camp, this is McCoy’s last chance to become the backup. He’ll likely play in the second and third quarters against the Lions. McCoy was 4-for-6 for 33 yards against Cleveland third-stringers last week. Cousins was solid vs. the Browns, so McCoy needs a big effort against Detroit’s second-stringers to be in line to play this fall if Griffin falters. McCoy’s big key: Don’t throw interceptions.

The only NL players ahead of Rizzo in OPS are ones currently out of the playoff picture: Joey Votto, Paul Goldschmidt and Harper.

MITCHELL LAYTON (GETTY IMAGES)

Eli Manning denies report he seeks to be top-paid QB

Despite playing in only half of the Nationals’ games this season, Denard Span is fifth on the team in runs (37).

Span’s plan this time: Don’t hurry comeback Center fielder playing it safe in the minors as he rehabs back injury NATIONALS Denard Span admits he may have rushed back from injury earlier this season but adds that he won’t make the same mistake again. Span, who underwent sports hernia surgery in December and had a second procedure in March, hasn’t played since July 6 because of back spasms. As tempting as it may be for Span to hurry back for the stretch run — “we’re running out of time,” he says — his challenging season has taught him to take a more cautious approach. “I haven’t had many surgeries or many injuries [in my career] so I probably came back a little too soon at the start of the season,” Span said this week ahead of a rehab assignment with the Single-A Hagerstown Suns. “It’s just been a domino effect and the whole season has just been a little odd.”

Span resumed baseball activities earlier this month, but suffered a setback on Aug. 8 after taking part in batting practice and outfield drills at Nationals Park. At the time, the 31-yearold wondered if he might miss the rest of the season. “The rehab process has been frustrating because I’ve had moments where I felt good, but as soon as I started feeling [better] and tried to rev it up, things didn’t go so well. So here we are now, it’s almost the end of August and I’m just hoping to string together a few consecutive good days.” Span is hitting .304 this season with five home runs in 59 games. The Nationals’ center fielder and leadoff man was scheduled to make a second straight rehab appearance in Hagerstown on Wednesday, but he said it would be premature to pencil him in for returning during the Nationals’ upcoming nine-game homestand. “I don’t want to rush it for a couple of reasons,” he said. “One,

for my long-term future health and also because whenever I am able to return to the ball club, I want to make sure that I can contribute. If I rush it, I think both of those things are in jeopardy.” Span tied for the lead in the National League with 184 hits last season and is slated to become a free agent this offseason. Entering play Wednesday, the Nationals were 35-24 with Span in the lineup this season and 2435 without him. The inability to find a suitable replacement atop the batting order is one of many reasons the Nationals have struggled since the All-Star break, but Span is confident they can still rally to win the NL East. “We’re running out of time, and obviously this has been a rough patch here, but I think we’ll be fine,” he said. “We’re getting all of our screw-ups out of the way right now and I have a feeling that things are going to start falling our way.” BEN RABY (FOR EXPRESS)

Reports: Dodgers acquire veteran second baseman Chase Utley from Phillies

A perplexed Eli Manning on Wednesday shot down an NFL Network report that he wants to be the league’s highest-paid quarterback. “Never been said, never come out of my mouth,” the Giants’ quarterback said Wednesday. The two-time Super Bowl MVP is in the final year of a contract that will pay him a $17 million base salary. His agent, Tom Condon, has been negotiating a new deal, but the two sides are not close to an agreement, Giants co-owner John Mara said Monday. Manning said he does not compare himself to other quarterbacks by salary, and right now he is not thinking about his contract. “My focus is on practice and getting the best out of our practices and getting better,” Manning said. “Reports are all wrong. I don’t know where they are getting their information from. I just kind of laugh at it.” TOM CANAVAN (AP)

Judge questions NFL’s reasoning for Brady’s ban NFL A federal judge made it clear Wednesday that the NFL’s fourgame suspension of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady over “Deflategate” is in jeopardy. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman warned a league lawyer during oral arguments that there was precedent for judges to toss out penalties issued by arbitrators. Berman continued to push for a settlement in the dispute. But throughout the hearing, he also cited several weaknesses in the way the NFL handled the controversy. Berman said he could not understand how the commissioner opted to keep a four-game suspension over a fine or a lesser penalty seen in other cases of equipment tampering. In one exchange, he questioned Commissioner Roger Goodell’s defense of the Brady punishment on the grounds that it was comparable to penalties on players caught using performance-enhancing drugs. “How is that equal to steroid use?” he asked of the deflation allegations. “They both go to the integrity of the game,” responded NFL lawyer Daniel Nash. “Well, everything goes to the integrity of the game,” the judge shot back. If there is no deal, the judge has said he hopes to rule by Sept. 4, six days before the Patriots host the Steelers in the NFL’s seasonopening game. LARRY NEUMEISTER AND TOM HAYS (AP)

German-American Heritage Museum

Have you properly appreciated your favorite German- or Austrian- or Swiss-American lately? If not, shame on you. Your penance: Visit this small but thorough niche museum. Before Chinatown became Chinatown in the 1930s, it was primarily a German neighborhood. In 1888, German immigrant John Hockemeyer built a Victorian townhouse there; in 2008, the German-American Heritage Foundation acquired it. The museum opened in 2010.

Highlights The museum’s temporary show, “100 Years of Hollywood — The Laemmle Effect,” on view through Sept. 26, answers such questions as “Who in Hollywood is of German

descent?” and “Who’s Laemmle?” Answers include “Sandra Bullock” (a first-generation German-American) and “founder of Universal Studios in 1915.” Believe it or not, Carl Laemmle’s legacy will likely outshine Sandy’s. He created the star system in Hollywood; pioneered tie-ins, cross promotion and other marketing techniques; and sponsored hundreds of Jews who wanted to leave Germany after Hitler came to power. The museum’s permanent exhibit, “Immigration to America: A Journey in Time,” is crammed with informational gems. For example, it

Not just her son’s mother ‘Obama Mama’ reveals a complex woman who followed her own path

In the movie, you don’t define Dunham as “Obama’s mother.” You focus on her in her own right. Why is that? I basically looked at her as this extraordinary woman who is also a mother. Being a mother was a huge part of her life; she delayed

FILM The name Stanley Ann Dunham doesn’t ring many bells. But her son is pretty well-known — he lives in that big white house on the 1600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. Dunham (who was named Stanley because her father wanted a boy; she went by Ann) is the subject of Norris “Obama Mama,” a documentary getting its D.C. premiere Friday at the ninth annual African Diaspora International Film Festival. After the screening, director Vivian Norris will attend a Q&A session about her film, which covers the life of a woman who didn’t live to see her son take the oath of office. We had some Q’s of our own for Norris.

situation in Indonesia [Dunham, her husband Lolo Soetoro and the young Obama arrived in 1967, when the country was in the midst of vast anti-Communist sentiment, culminating in mass murders]. She said, “We’re going to work with [the government], even though they’ve done horrible things, we’re going to try to get around that horrible system to get the help to the people who need help.” What she did was give them a little bit of money, and that’s really little bits of entrepreneurship. You can see her in some of the policy decisions he made. The health care issue, because she died [in 1995, of ovarian and uterine cancer] with some insurance, but not

full health insurance. Paid family leave — she was a single mom for periods of time, things like that. In his Nobel Prize speech he said, “Look, I don’t know if I deserve this or if I ever will, but if I do it will be because of the things she instilled in me.”

In her relationship with Obama’s father, too, right? When she fell in love with his father, she never said, “Oh my gosh, I can’t date an African man.” She thought, “Oh my gosh, what an extraordinary human being,” which at that time was unheard of. And then, later, she made a very feminist, ahead-ofher-time choice not to stay in that marriage and to raise a child on her own. It was brave to make a lot of the choices she made. In addition to “Obama Mama,” 12 other films make up the slate at this year’s African Diaspora International Film Festival, including submissions from France, Cuba, Argentina and some African nations. A major theme is the effect of the African diaspora on countries far from the African coast, including “Reshipment,” a documentary about the connections between Cubans and Haitians, and “Tango Negro: The African Roots of Tango,” about how African music

influenced the quintessential South American dance. Even Canada makes an appearance with “Black (NWA),” about problematic police relationships in inner-city Montreal. “Hear Me Move” from South Africa and “Bilatena” from Ethiopia are also getting their U.S. premieres. “Move” is about the son of a famous sbujwa dancer who joins forces with his dead father’s former partner. “Bilatena” is a gentle, humorous film about a boy helping his mother and older brother to support their family.

“Hear Me Move” features plenty of sbujwa dancing, a freestyle dance that originated in South Africa.

The opening-night film, “Christmas Wedding Baby,” comes from the U.S. It addresses the changing role of black women through the relationships of four sisters and their mother. Director Kiara Jones will participate in a postscreening Q&A. Each film screens only once but there are no overlaps, so it’s possible to see every movie and take in a range of films as broad as the African diaspora itself. K.P.K.

BBC WORLDWIDE NORTH AMERICA

MUSIC A year ago, Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo. In April, Freddie Gray died while in police custody in Baltimore. Two months later, Dylan Roof walked into a black church in South Carolina and gunned down nine people attending a prayer service. It’s been a year of civil unrest, sorrow and re-examining the relationship between black people and law enforcement. Jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, 34, carries all of this with him. While his solo debut album, “The Epic,” doesn’t directly address those events, it feels shaded by them. “A lot of times, when those things happen, I do feel shaken to my core,” says Washington, who finds the album “healing.” “There’s a deeper level of healing that needs to happen for the world in general. There’s a mass of people who are broken.” For nearly three hours across 17 tracks (and three CDs), “The Epic” unfolds with percussive tidal waves and shrieking wind instruments. Triumphant wails give songs like “Askim,” “The Magnificent 7” and “The Rhythm Changes” a rich gospel flair. “Seven Prayers” is a prayer for all the continents and “Malcolm’s Theme” honors slain civil rights

“There’s a deeper level of healing that needs to happen for the world in general. There’s a mass of people who are broken.” KAMASI WASHINGTON, jazz artist

has his own 10-piece band — called The Next Step — featuring multiple drummers, upright bass players, keyboardists, horn players, a vocalist and a pianist. The mostly instrumental “The Epic” is another in a string of recent releases that celebrate blackness while reaching for deeply creative sounds. Washington is featured on rapper Kendrick Lamar’s landmark “To Pimp a Butterfly,” producer Flying Lotus’ “You’re Dead!” and bassist Thundercat’s “The Beyond/ Where the Giants Roam.” Each album flirts with experimental jazz in some form and has passed muster with critics and fans. “The Epic,” which was released in May, came at a time when message-driven music from black artists was sorely needed. It would have come sooner — it was completed in the spring of 2014 — but the release date was pushed back five times, Washington says. Among other things that stalled the release, he stressed over the album’s mix and the artwork. Given its message and current events, it seems “The Epic” dropped right on time. “I think it was God giving me a good look, like, ‘Hey man, the world is gonna be ready for this, at this time,’ ” Washington says. “It’s like some other power was keeping it from coming out. It took a while, but it came out when it was supposed to.” MARCUS J. MOORE (FOR EXPRESS)

The best documentaries show just how crazy the world is, and just how much that craziness brings the world together. Take “We Come as Friends,” in which filmmaker Hubert Sauper (an Oscar nominee for “Darwin’s Nightmare,” certainly the best documentary about the economic effects of a species of perch) travels to South Sudan during a, let’s say, turbulent time. He interviews people trying to carve out conflicting lives in the African country: Sudanese warlords out for power, Chinese oil workers out for money, and American clergy out for souls. My affair lady “Mistress America,” starring Greta Gerwig, above, is writer-director Noah Baumbach’s second film this year (after spring’s “While We’re Young”). It’s not about an actual mistress, which is a bummer because nothing spices up a movie like a dash of adultery. ALEX FORREST: “Fatal Attraction’s” temptress is the prototypical psycho bit on the side, with an obsessive personality and a taste for broth du bunny. CHLOE: In 2009’s “Chloe,” Amanda Seyfried is hired by a suspicious Julianne Moore to seduce her husband (Liam Neeson). Chloe decides seducing absolutely everyone is a better deal. DIANA MURPHY: More of a sex worker than a mistress, Demi Moore’s “Indecent Proposal” character commands $1 million for the night. That’s around $125,000 an hour. Begone, student loans! MAURICE BENDRIX: So he’s not a mistress, but in “The End of the Affair” Ralph Fiennes takes a blazingly painful ride on the cheating train with Julianne Moore as the conductor. PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE:

Judging by “Dangerous Liaisons,” a day in 18th-century France mostly involved getting dressed, only to get undressed and hook up with someone you’re not married to. Too bad Velcro wasn’t invented yet; they could have really sped things up.

They’re messin’ with breakfast Republic Kolache’s founders get creative with a Texas staple

POP-UPS The kolache is not a Philly cheesesteak, a New York slice, a Baja fish taco or some other signature dish that has found acceptance far from its birthplace. The kolache has remained mostly rooted in the Czech belt of central Texas, where the yeasted pastry, stuffed with sweet or savory fillings, is a staple snack for Central European immigrants, Texans and practically everyone else who winds their way to the Lone Star State. The kolache is breakfast food. It’s road food. It’s a snack desperately trying to break big outside of Texas. Former Houstonians Brian Stanford and Chris Svetlik are doing their part. The business partners will launch their weekly Saturday pop-up, Republic Kolache, at American Ice Company on V Street NW this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stanford and Svetlik are curious to see how the snack (the generally accepted pronunciation is “ko-LAH-tchee”) will be accepted in Washington. “We have chatted with a couple of restaurants about potentially getting on their menu,” Svetlik says. “A lot of people are asking for, essentially, late-night food. They want something that they can give to people after they shut

down their kitchens, but which fills drunk bellies with calories. “So we’re kind of going through this debate: Do we preserve what we know kolaches as? Do we totally let go and let the market decide when people want kolaches?” Svetlik says. “For now, I think, we want to set the tone that this is a breakfast food . … If no one shows up and then we do partner up with bars and sell them late-night, and they just go like hotcakes, maybe we’ll rethink.” The Czech pastry already assumed a different persona after its move to Texas, where locals added sausages, sauerkraut and jalapeno-and-cheese fillings to the traditionally sweet pastries stuffed with prunes, apricots and the like.

Republic Kolache’s experiments have led to varieties such as spice cherry and blueberry, above, and sausage, egg and jalapeno, below.

Svetlik and Stanford grew up eating the snack in Houston doughnut shops and at gas stations/roadside shops. The owners respect the pastry’s history, even if they don’t always respect the pastry’s ingredients in Texas. “Generally, we’re trying to be a little more gourmet or creative with flavors,” Svetlik says. “A lot of the kolache shops in Texas, people are just dumping pie

“For now, I think, we want to set the tone that this is a breakfast food. If no one shows up, ... maybe we’ll rethink.” CHRIS SVETLIK, one of the partners behind Republic Kolache, on his company’s desire to give the people what they want

fillings out of a can. We’re trying to elevate a little bit from that.” Stanford and Svetlik have been experimenting with varieties such as cream-cheese-and-toastedpecan, honeycrisp apple, Maine blueberry, chorizo and even one stuffed with a half-smoke. The partners’ ambitions are impressive for two guys without culinary training. Svetlik’s background is in digital marketing and branding. Stanford is a lawyer for NASA. They met through mutual friends and almost immediately started talking kolaches. Stanford devoted more than a year to developing a dough recipe, first at his apartment and later at Mess Hall, the business incubator and commercial kitchen, where the guys rent space to produce their kolaches. “If you can nail the dough and get that right,” Stanford says, “the fillings are a wonderful bonus.” TIM CARMAN (THE WASHINGTON POST)

THE SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE

Four-part harmony Little Big Town shares the country spotlight and the childrearing MUSIC For most of its nearly 15 years in country music, the quartet Little Big Town managed to make chart-topping hits without making any headlines. Then came “Girl Crush,” off 2014’s “Pain Killer.” The song is about being envious of the woman who has the man you want, but the title, and lyrics like “I wanna taste her lips,” had some listeners crying “gay agenda.” A few radio stations reportedly pulled the song, but it didn’t matter: The hypnotic, ’50s-pop-inspired ballad spent 13 weeks atop Billboard’s country chart this summer. Guitarist and vocalist Jimi Westbrook explained how Little Big Town has stayed together through controversy, industry changes and raising kids. Country music doesn’t have many bands like you. None of you is more famous than the others — you’re not just a lead singer and a backing band.

We didn’t really want to lock into one person singing lead on the record. We had seen other bands — huge ones, like the Eagles and the Beatles — that had done it before, but it wasn’t something that we had seen in country music. We always believed it could work and we just stuck to our guns. You guys have been in the business for almost 15 years. What keeps you together? We function as a whole. That takes laying your ego down, which is sometimes a hard thing to do when you’re in a band. This business is hard, and the personal things that get mixed in with it as well can really take a toll. A lot of times it’s only family that you go through these things with. But with us, we’ve been through it all together and it just keeps making us stronger. Now we’re raising kids together. Do the kids come on tour? Oh yeah! Some people kind of raise their eyebrows at it, but I think it’s incredibly well-rounded. They’re seeing a lot of diversity in people, in places and get to experience a lot of different things.

Coming soon The Little Big Townies are ready to release their next single, “Pain Killer,” a pop-country jam. If it reminds you of the beach, there’s a good reason for that. “It’s got a lot of reggae in there, which we haven’t done,” Jimi Westbrook says. “We actually shot the video for this song back in January, in the Virgin Islands.” Keep an eye out for the song and video, out Monday. (EXPRESS)

Let’s talk about “Girl Crush. ” Why did you choose to make it a single? I don’t think I’ve heard a song that was written so well in a long time. [The song is one of the few “Pain Killer” tracks the band didn’t write.] There are so many songs that have been written in history, so to come up with an idea and an angle that you haven’t heard before is not an easy task. There’s speculation that all the fuss was driven by the media. I think it was blown out of proportion. There were a handful — but just a handful — of stations that were feeling a little backlash

from some of their conservative listeners. And they weren’t getting phone calls from the hundreds of other people that were loving hearing it. To me it seems like an example of how the media pigeonholes country music as more conservative than it is. Yeah, I feel like there’s a lot of change happening. We’re very accepting, there’s a lot of diversity in the community and in the genre. A lot of people don’t know that, because of these stereotypes that they hang on to. What did you learn from the whole thing? We wait till we’re pissed off to say something, and that’s when we speak the loudest. And maybe it shouldn’t be that way. But let’s talk about the things we love, too, and uplift people. That makes society a lot better, more than the complaining and bitching about everything. LORI McCUE (EXPRESS)

MUSIC Some men depend on their wives to pick out their clothes. Country musician Chris Stapleton depends on his to pick out his songs. “My wife has great taste in everything but men,” Stapleton says. “The vast majority of the songs on my debut album, ‘Traveller,’ came from lists she made.” Chris will be playing at the Birchmere on Thursday with his band, which includes his wife, Morgane, on backup vocals. The two musicians met about 12 years ago. They were both working as Nashville songwriters, and Morgane liked to sit in her friend’s office at Sea Gayle Music and wait for Chris to show up. “We’d hear the jingle of his keys as he walked down the hall, and we knew he was coming to play us whatever new song he had written,” Morgane says. “Eventually he asked me to write a song with him, and that ended up being

our first date. We didn’t get much writing done that night.” Morgane collected Stapleton’s growing catalog and listened to the demos on repeat. One song in particular, called “Fire Away,” stuck with her from those early days. A ballad about a couple having a blowout of a fight, “Fire Away” ended up becoming “Traveller’s” second track. “It’s a very honest song, and that’s what I love about it,” Morgane says. “It says what I feel like when I want to fight: Let’s just have at it and be real.” Chris was surprised when Morgane suggested it.

“This is the most emotional, saddest country song I’ve ever heard, and you just spit it out in 10 minutes.” MORGANE STAPLETON, on husband Chris Stapleton’s song “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore”

“I didn’t necessarily want to sing that old song, and now it’s one of my favorite things to play live,” he says. Choosing from Chris’ thousand or so published songs wasn’t easy, but a few tracks were nobrainers, Morgane says. One such song was “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore,” a gut-wrenching ballad about a father’s crisis of faith. Chris wrote it while waiting for Morgane to get ready to go out. “I was like, f--- you for being able to do this. This is the most emotional, saddest country song I’ve ever heard, and you just spit it out in 10 minutes,” she recalls. Overall, the two get along pretty well for people who live, tour and are now raising two small children together, Morgane says. Still, there’s no lack of fodder for future songs. “Oh, we drive each other crazy once in a while,” Morgane says. “But being without each other drives us even more crazy.” SADIE DINGFELDER (EXPRESS)

ELENA GOUKASSIAN (FOR EXPRESS) Flashpoint Gallery, 916 G St. NW; through Sept. 12, free. 1 ‘At Once Was I’ 2008–2015 In 2007, Cervino came across some discarded model airplane parts in a dumpster. “They belonged to a kid named Ed Stuber,” Egan says. “His childhood diary and scrapbook were also in there.” Cervino salvaged these cast-off remnants of childhood, arranged them on a canvas and doused them with model-airplane-gray primer. At Cervino’s 2008 Flashpoint exhibition, “At Once Was I” was the central piece. “It’s one of the only pieces of my artwork that I actually like,” Cervino says, “yet it’s been sitting in a box for the past seven years, and it’s never been shown anywhere else.” Cervino sees the work simultaneously as a success

and a failure, and this time around, though it hangs in the exact same spot on the wall as it did in 2008, it remains in its storage crate. “The piece means something different now than it did then,” Egan says. 2 ‘Folie a deux’ 2015 French for “a madness shared by two,” folie a deux is a delusion or mental illness shared by two people who are very close to each other, usually siblings or spouses. For this project, Cervino combined the old desks of his estranged father and Egan’s mother, who died in a car accident when Egan was a child. Egan’s mother used the black desk in her teenage years, and the wooden desk served as

3 Cervino’s father’s workspace during optometry school. “The desks slot into each other to make a hybrid,” Egan says, who sees the project as a stand-in for both her and Cervino and their missing parents. “You never lose that need for approval,”

3 ‘The Ejecta’ (detail) 2015 The central work of the show is a row of six display cases with objects from Cervino’s art studio. “My studio is filled with things that have always been with me, but they never found a way to enter my work,” Cervino says. “This is an opportunity to test them.” The cases hold all kinds of ephemera — a boat cleat, a bizarre collectible dinner plate, multiple copies of the same Hardy Boys book (the last book Cervino’s father began reading to him as a child). In the box shown at left, a compressed-air tank and a steel light saber (based on the weapons held by early Star Wars action figures, rather than the fancy ones wielded in the movies) remind Egan of “a soldier lying in state with his weapon.” The cases “make it feel like a museum, where you look under a vitrine to see something precious,” Egan says, “but the outside of the cases are made to look like storage crates,” a crack at the notion of institutional approval.

They made it about faking it In ‘Mistress America,’ Lola Kirke and Greta Gerwig try to look cool

COURT BATTLES

FOX SEARCHKLIGHT

FILM In “Mistress America,” out Friday, actress Greta Gerwig (“Frances Ha”) had the unnerving task of playing opposite a character loosely based on herself. It’s a process that Gerwig, who wrote the film with her boyfriend, director Noah Baumbach, admits was hard to wrap her head around. “My therapist thought the whole endeavor was very weird,” she says. “I don’t know if it was therapeutic. I don’t know if I’m fixed.” Gerwig, 32, co-stars as Brooke, an alluringly cool 30-something New Yorker who works as a SoulCycle instructor, a tutor, an interior decorator and a wouldbe restaurateur. Lola Kirke, 24, (“Mozart in the Jungle”) stars opposite Gerwig as Tracy, an aspiring writer who just started her freshman year at Barnard. The pair are brought together when their respective single parents decide to get married. Brooke takes Tracy under her wing and shows her soon-to-be-stepsister her version of New York. Tracy is instantly infatuated with (and intimidated by) Brooke. “Mistress America” has parallels to 2012’s “Frances Ha,” Gerwig and Baumbach’s previous writing collaboration, in that both films are effusive New York stories about female relationships. “Mistress” may be funnier,

Williams’ children say his wife has their property

Lola Kirke, left, and Greta Gerwig, right, play soon-to-be-stepsisters in Noah Baumbach’s “Mistress America.”

particularly in the third act, which becomes a screwball comedy. Both Gerwig and Kirke can identify with Tracy, who, early in the film, describes her college experience as such: “You know the feeling of being at a party and not knowing anyone? It’s like that all the time.” Kirke even wears one of Gerwig’s old blazers in the film. “I mean, we literally dressed Lola in my clothes,” Gerwig says. “We put her on the floor I lived in my freshman year at Barnard. So many things: Her anxieties, coming into her own as a writer and being punished for it — that’s all me. That’s all my stuff.” “I’ve been a Tracy in many ways,” Kirke says. “I think what’s essential to Tracy, and also Brooke in a way that Tracy

doesn’t know, is that Tracy is pretending that she’s cool. She’s pretending that she’s the person Brooke thinks she is, or the person that she thinks Brooke thinks she is. It’s all about posturing yourself in a way that changes your identity. Faking it till you make it.” That sentiment also applies to Brooke, a chameleonlike, novelistic character who spouts aphorisms in a way that can seem disingenuous. “She’s super performative, she’s always acting,” Gerwig says. “But as full of s--- as Brooke can be, there are things she’s saying that I completely think are true. There’s a moment in a cab where she says, ‘Columbia girls make us feel inferior,’ and Tracy says, ‘I already do,’ and Brooke says, ‘That’s stupid — don’t feel

inferior.’ When I was 18, I was so filled with self-deprecation or self-hatred and I was always feeling awkward and stupid. I remember someone who I looked up to and worshipped saying, ‘You are not awkward, you are actually not, so stop pretending to be,’ and I felt like I had been jolted out of something.” For Kirke, Tracy didn’t fully click until after she saw the film. “So much of my life has been me trying to be as cool as people think I am,” she says. “I’m so happy Tracy exists for that reason. Tracy was a character that I was like, OK, I’m just going to say what Noah and Greta tell me to say and I have no idea who Tracy is. And then, after seeing it, I realized who she is.” RUDI GREENBERG (EXPRESS)

This week, Bob Dylan could be opening up a Sleep Number adjustable bed because ClickHole, the clickbait-mocking spinoff of the Onion, launched a GoFundMe titled “Let’s Give Bob Dylan A Nice Bed!” This makes no sense: Bob Dylan certainly has a bed. And yet, 156 people donated a total of $1,555 — enough to get Bob his fancy mattress, bed frame and wireless remote control. Per Twitter, the bed arrived at Columbia Records on Tuesday. The December 2014 petition asked the court to exclude the contents of the Tiburon, Calif., home that she shared with Williams from the jewelry, memorabilia and other items Williams said the children should have. Now the children have filed papers accusing Williams of holding on to property that is theirs. The two sides will appear in court Aug. 28. (AP)

Just don’t call it plus-size STYLE BLOG Melissa McCarthy may be hilarious, but she’s very serious about making over the plus-size fashion industry. And she’d like to start by losing the term “plus-size.” “I just think, if you’re going to make women’s clothing, make women’s clothing,” the actress told Refinery 29. “Designers that put everyone in categories are over-complicating something that should be easy.” So McCarthy is going to make it easy. Her new clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, caters to women sizes four to 28. She’s got the experience to make it happen: She was planning to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology but was waylaid by her success as a comedian. “I’ve done every single piece. I’m on my hands and knees

Women on the Fashion Plus subreddit, for example, say that searching for the latest trends in a size above 14 is like tracking down a pot of gold. When stores do carry larger sizes, they tend to be completely segregated from the rest of the inventory. Size-12 model Candice Huffine described one shopping

trip: “I went to the plus floor and I was certain I was on the wrong floor. … And I thought, ‘Why are we in the back like this?’ The other floors are pumping music and have makeup stands and shoes and this one is up on the quiet floor with the bedding.” McCarthy is tackling the segregation issue, too. She’s working with stores that are carrying her clothes to make sure her creations will be where they belong — with women’s clothing. STEPHANIE MERRY

during a Twitter Q&A to a fan who asked if she’d like to appear on the BBC sci-fi series “Doctor Who.” The show’s producer, Stephen Moffat, has said that the next person to play the Doctor could be a woman. The British actress Atwell currently stars on ABC’s “Agent Carter.”

Cops: Chelsea O’Donnell was ‘of sound mind’ Rosie O’Donnell’s teenage daughter was “of sound mind and body” when she was found in New Jersey after she left home for a week, police said. Officials said Chelsea O’Donnell was found by South Nyack, N.Y., police a day earlier in Barnegat, N.J., at the house of a male she was “recently acquainted with.” She had left the family’s home Aug. 11 with a therapy dog. Chelsea suffers from mental illness, according to her mother’s rep. (AP) INVESTIGATIONS

blog log “Stop calling it ‘female Viagra’— Addyi won’t affect women the way the little blue pill affects men.” LILY KUO, at qz.com, writes about the difference between flibanserin, the

first commercial drug to boost a woman’s sexual desire, and Viagra. While many have been calling the approval of the drug a win for gender equality, Kuo reminds that flibanserin — whose marketed name is Addyi — doesn’t work the same way. Women may experience dizziness, fainting, drowsiness and falling blood pressure. Men who take Viagra need only worry about “mild and brief” headaches or facial flushing. Also, men can pop a Viagra an hour or so before they plan to have sex, whereas a woman needs to take Addyi for a month.

Don’t miss the High Holy Days Find Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services near you in a special directory appearing in The Washington Post in the Arts & Style section on Sunday, August 23 and in the Weekend section on Friday, August 28.

@MOKHTAR_AWAD responds to The Huffington Post’s latest channel, HuffPost Arabic. Readers have condemned posts on the site as being homophobic, pro-Jihad, anti-Atheist, ultra conservative and pushing pro-Muslim Brotherhood sentiments. Huffington Post has defended its Arabic site and has invited bloggers of all opinions to submit pieces for consideration.

The Directory will publish in Express on Thursday, September 3 and September 10. For advertising information, contact Melissa Abell, 202-334-7024, religionadvertising@washpost.com.

“The most badass Wheaties Champion ever.” CHLOE BRYAN, at mashable.com, writes about the newest Wheaties Champion to grace the cover of the iconic cereal box: Leah Strong. The 4-year-old is the daughter of Devon Strong, a defensive end with the Cincinnati Bengals, but what makes Leah a true champion is her fight against cancer.

“I’m so sad that I missed the final moments of @eonline’s legitimacy because I was busy making things that people actually enjoy.” YOUTUBER @HANK GREEN joins the outrage over two missteps by E! — an article making fun of YouTubers at the Teen Choice Awards and a defensive tweet that reminded everyone they gave YouTube star Grace Helbig, left, a TV show. Helbig called the tweet “embarrassing.”

DIFFICULT

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) You’ll want to do the right things for yourself, not just for others. Make sure, for a start, that you focus on proper nutrition. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) The progression of the day will take you through at least two areas marked by dangerous obstacles of all sorts. Navigate with care. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) You’re in the mood to see your dreams come true, but have you really laid the groundwork for such a game-changing development? SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) You’re going to have to get started earlier than anyone else if you want to be fully prepared to collaborate effectively. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) You have much to look forward to. Today in particular you have something to do that can give you quite a buzz!

WEDNESDAY’S SOLUTION

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) You may feel like throwing caution to the wind and doing something you have only considered in your dreams. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) You’re in no mood for a fight, but you’re not ready or willing to concede on all points. Try peaceful negotiation. PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20) You have little to lose and much to win, but everything depends on your willingness to say or do what others think you will not.

FOUR RACK TOTAL Make a 2-7-letter word from the letters in each row. Add points of each word using scoring directions at right. Seven-letter words get a 50-point bonus. Blank tiles used as any letter have no point value. Scrabble is a trademark of Hasbro in the U.S. and Canada.

We’ll hold on to that chance of showers and storms as the front comes through during the night.

The actor and the technology entrepreneur, who wed quietly in December, kept the pregnancy a secret from the media. According to People magazine, they will not make the baby’s name public. (EXPRESS)

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green are splitting up after five years of marriage and 11 years together, multiple news outlets reported. “Megan has separated from Brian,” an unnamed source told Us Weekly. “They decided on it six months ago.” A source told People, “They will always love each other very much and are devoted to their kids. Anything could happen in the future, but for now they’ve decided it’s best to take some time apart.” The former couple have two children, sons Noah Shannon, 2, and Bodhi Ransom, 18 months. (Green also has a child from a prior relationship.) The last time the pair were photographed in public was June 9. (EXPRESS)
