Public funding for abortion is a Catholic social justice value. For more than four decades—the Hyde amendment has prevented the use of federal funding for abortion—denying the poorest women the right to the same reproductive healthcare as women with more access.
Abortion In Good Faith lifts up the voices of Catholics and others across the country who want reproductive healthcare, including abortion access, for everyone no matter how much money they have, where they live or what they believe.
Join us. Add your name to the pledge with thousands of others who believe public funding for abortion is a moral necessity.
Speak out. Write to your representatives and post on social media using the hashtag #ingoodfaith to say why you support public funding for abortion.

Police say a drunken Pennsylvania man had an 8-year-old girl drive him around until someone saw the car moving recklessly and called 911. Darlington County police received a report Sept. 3 of a child driving and almost wrecking a car. Police say the girl stopped the car when another motorist became upset and got out of his car, yelling at her and Kevin Cook, 24. Police say Cook was so drunk he couldn’t finish a field sobriety test. (AP)

Still strong, one year later THE DISTRICT In its first year, the Smithsonian’s black history museum has become the nation’s top temple to blackness, an Afrocentric shrine on the National Mall where people of all races, colors and creeds are flocking to experience — and leave behind for posterity — the highs and lows of African-American life in the United States. “This has become more than a museum. This has become a pilgrimage site,” said Lonnie Bunch, founding director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The nation’s first black president, Barack Obama, opened the new Smithsonian to a standing room-only crowd Sept. 24, 2016, with the ringing of a church bell. Since then, the Smithsonian’s 19th — and so far, most popular — museum has only become more beloved. Free advance timed tickets are claimed months in advance, and people line up outside the doors every morning in hopes of snagging rare same-day passes. To celebrate the one-year

And people are always willing to give, Bunch said. But just as important as the exhibits are the emotions and the memories the museum evokes, Bunch said. Wandering through the museum, he can often see grandmothers explaining the Jim Crow South to children, and fathers and sons talking about the joys and horrors of growing up in a segregated United States. “Because you have these collections, it allows people to open up to share stories to find memories. I’ve heard many times people say, ‘I forgot, but once I saw a segregated door or once I saw that washboard it brought back those memories,’ ” Bunch said. “So what we wanted has happened. This museum has humanized history.” JESSE J. HOLLAND (AP)

New wheels out for a spin
You must have noticed them already. A colorful array of new bicycles sprang up on the curbs of downtown D.C. last week, bringing a new way to beat traffic — and shorten the trip from the Metro to the office. But with so many dockless bike-share options — three as of Thursday and the nation’s first electric dockless bike-share launching today — how does one choose? The Post rode all four companies’ bikes to get a feel for how they compare. For a product whose killer feature is convenience, deciding which dockless bike to throw your leg over may simply be a question of which one’s closest. Here’s how each bike performed. ANDREW HEINING (THE WASHINGTON POST)
Mobike
The most common sight among the dockless bike-share entrants, Chinabased Mobike’s silver bikes with bright orange wheels and baskets arrived in herds Wednesday. Its wheels were the toughest-looking we tested, but its plastic hand grips were the cheapest-feeling — however, that may mean they’ll hold up better over time. Though early buzz promised Mobikes with a chainless drive system, all the models we saw had a plain old chain. (Snappy dressers, fear not: All the bikes we tested had chainguards.) We liked their solid, frame-mounted baskets with built-in cupholders, but taller riders may find that the Mobike saddle doesn’t go high enough.
expressline
LimeBike
The next-most ubiquitous arrival, bright green LimeBikes with their yellow fenders and chainguards, certainly stand out. Upping the safety game, LimeBikes’ airless tires feature reflective sidewalls, and they sport front and rear LEDs that run off a generator hub in the front wheel. We loved the swept-back handlebar that allowed for a relaxed, upright riding position. As with Mobike, taller riders may want to avoid LimeBike, since its nifty self-raising seat post left us wishing for more height. Also, it’s probably a good idea to avoid loading down LimeBike’s front baskets with too much stuff — they’re affixed to the front fork, so they turn with the handlebars.

Spin
These were a little harder to find around town as of Thursday, with about 10 showing up on the app’s map, but the San Francisco-based company says it’s adding 100 bikes to the streets this week. The lone single-speed entrant in D.C.’s dockless bike-share trial, Spin’s all-orange bikes stood out for their luxe hand grips, loud bells and towering seat-post capabilities. But the good ends there. The lights on one Spin we tested didn’t work — not a good sign on your first day — and the kickstand, though probably lightweight, seemed flimsy and wobbly. Our two Spin rides were free when we downloaded the app.

Jump DC
This is the bike to grab if you’re heading clear across town, if it’s hot out, if you have hills on your route — or if you want to feel like you have superpowers. Launching today, Jump is the standout of the group. Their bikes feature an electric motor in the front wheel and a battery concealed in the frame, and they’re a blast to ride. Pedal a little, and the bike senses your effort and supplements it with some of its own. Unlike the rest of the dockless entrants, which can be left wherever there’s sidewalk space, Jump’s bikes must be locked to a bike rack with an integrated U-lock that’s held magnetically to the frame.
Mayor Bowser announces re-election bid Mayor Muriel Bowser will seek re-election in 2018, asking D.C. voters for a second term that she says will be dedicated to making sure the city’s economic prosperity is shared more equitably across its gulfs of class and race. Bowser’s decision Friday serves as an unofficial starting gun for the coming campaign season, and throws into relief the stakes of a mayoral campaign in which she so far has no serious challengers — a rarity in a city that rarely shows deference toward incumbents. Poll: Hogan retains strong Md. approval MARYLAND A high percentage of Marylanders believe Gov. Larry Hogan has adequately distanced himself from President Trump, according to a new poll that also shows the state leader with a strong approval rating despite Democratic efforts to tie the two Republicans together. The Goucher College survey does not contain only good news for Hogan, however. The governor’s approval rating remains nearly 10 points below the astronomical 71 percent recorded in polls one year ago. The percentage of those who say they are committed or likely to vote for him in 2018 has fallen 6 percentage points since February. Trump is deeply unpopular in the state, with 71 percent of Marylanders in the survey saying they disapprove or strongly disapprove of the job the president is doing. or strongly approve of his work. Forty-three percent of respondents said Hogan has distanced himself from Trump “about the right amount,” while 27 percent said the governor has done “too little” and 11 percent said he has done “too much.” Sixty-two percent of Marylanders approve of the job Hogan is doing, about even with his 63 percent approval rating in a February 2017 Goucher survey,
but eight points below his 71 percent approval rating in the organization’s September 2016 poll. Sixteen percent of respondents in the new poll said they disapprove or strongly disapprove of the job Hogan is doing, while 20 percent said they don’t know and 1 percent declined to answer. Fifty-one percent said they will definitely vote or are leaning toward voting for Hogan in 2018, including 35 percent of registered Democrats, 59 percent of independents and 83 percent of Republicans. Forty-two percent said they were considering or would definitely vote for someone other than Hogan, including 57 percent of registered Democrats, 30 percent of independents and 16 percent of Republicans. Mileah Kromer, a Goucher College political science professor who directed the polling team, attributed Hogan’s high approval rating to his “ability to stay on a message that people care about” and his focus on jobs and the economy, which 28 percent of Marylanders say is a top priority. NATIONAL SECURITY North Korea’s foreign minister warned Saturday that a strike against the U.S. mainland is “inevitable” because President Trump mocked leader Kim Jong Un with the nickname “Little Rocket Man.” U.S. bombers, escorted by fighter jets, flew off the North Korean coast from an air base in Guam in a show of force shortly before Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho strode to the podium to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York, capping an extraordinary week of militaristic threats from both nations before an organization founded to maintain international peace and security. The bombers were escorted by F-15C fighter jets from Okinawa, Japan. Ri said that Trump’s bombast had made “our rockets’ visit to the entire U.S. mainland inevitable” and linked it to Trump’s insulting shorthand references to Kim. Harsh sanctions placed on North Korea’s trade will have no impact on its ability to complete building a nuclear bomb capable of reaching the U.S., Ri said. “Through such a prolonged and arduous struggle, now we are finally only a few steps away from the final gate of completion

In response to Ri’s threats at the U.N., Trump tweeted Saturday night: “If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!” A mass rally was also held Saturday in central Pyongyang to express support for “final victory” over the United States, the regime’s KCNA news agency reported. The rally in Kim Il Sung square was attended by over 100,000 people, KCNA reported, “full of the spirit of annihilating the enemies.” Speaking at the rally, a Pyongyang official said the people of the capital were “aflame” with the desire to wipe their sworn enemy, the U.S. imperialists, off the globe. The rhetoric between Trump and Kim has grown exceptionally personal. At a rally Friday night in Alabama, Trump called Kim “Little Rocket Man,” magnifying the disparaging label he slung at Kim in his U.N. speech Tuesday in which he threatened that the U.S. would “totally destroy” North Korea in defense of itself or its allies. Kim, in turn, called Trump a

deranged person full of megalomania” and at one point referring to him as “President Evil.” Ri emphasized that North Korea has the know-how to carry out its threat. He said Pyongyang has a hydrogen bomb that can fit on an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the U.S. On Friday, Ri said North Korea was prepared to test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean. “Trump might not have been aware what is uttered from his mouth, but we will make sure that he bears consequences far beyond his words, beyond the scope of what he can handle even if he is ready to do so,” Ri added. nation+world HURRICANE MARIA Large amounts of federal aid have begun moving into Puerto Rico, welcomed by local officials who praised the Trump administration’s response but called for the emergency loosening of rules long blamed for condemning the U.S. territory to second-class status. In northwest Puerto Rico, people began returning to their homes Saturday after a spillway eased pressure on a dam that cracked after more than a foot of rain fell in the wake of the hurricane. The opening of the island’s main port in the capital allowed
11 ships to bring in 1.6 million gallons of water, 23,000 cots, dozens of generators, and food. Dozens more shipments are expected in upcoming days. The federal aid effort is racing to stem a growing humanitarian crisis in towns left without fresh water, fuel, electricity or phone service. The death toll from Maria in Puerto Rico was at least 10 and expected to climb. The island’s infrastructure was in poor shape long before Maria struck. A $73 billion debt crisis has left agencies like the state power company broke. As a

Trump’s new travel ban adds N. Korea, Venezuela
Kushner used private email in White House job
A masked gunman invaded a Nashville church Sunday and opened fire, walking silently down the aisle as he shot unsuspecting congregants. At least one person was killed and seven others wounded, police said. An usher confronted the shooter, who apparently shot himself accidentally in the struggle, authorities said. The gunman was identified as 25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson. No motive for the shooting was immediately determined. Investigators said they were not aware of any relationship between the gunman and any of the worshippers. Charges were pending. (AP)
As President Trump’s controversial travel ban expired Sunday, the White House announced a new, expanded order restricting visitors from eight countries. The travel order continues restrictions on foreign nationals seeking visas from Iran, Somalia, Libya, Yemen and Syria, all Muslim-majority countries. But it also extends the restrictions to three new nations: Chad, North Korea and Venezuela. Sudan, which had been part of the original travel ban, is not part of the new order announced Sunday. The announcement marks the latest salvo in Trump’s ongoing battles over immigration.
President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner has used a private email account to conduct and discuss official White House business dozens of times, his lawyer confirmed Sunday. Kushner used the private account through his first nine months in government service, even as the president continued to criticize his rival, Hillary Clinton, for her use of a private email account for government business. Kushner several times used his account to exchange news stories and minor reactions or updates with other administration officials. None of the emails appears to contain classified information. (AP)

Merkel’s party wins vote, but nationalists surge Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc won a lackluster victory in Germany’s national election Sunday while the anti-migrant, nationalist Alternative for Germany party managed a surprising entry into parliament. Merkel’s main center-left rivals, the Social Democrats, led by Merkel’s challenger Martin Schulz, vowed immediately to leave her coalition government and go into opposition. The outcome puts Merkel, above, on course for a fourth term as chancellor, but means that she likely faces the tricky task of forming a new coalition government with two new partners. (AP)

GOP health care bill on brink of collapse Collins: It’s ‘very difficult’ for me to see a scenario in which I vote for this POLITICS The floundering Republican attempt to undo the Affordable Care Act met hardening resistance from key GOP senators Sunday that left it on the verge of collapsing, even as advocates vowed to keep pushing for a vote this week. With Senate GOP leaders just one “no” vote away from defeat, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said in a TV interview that it was “very difficult” to envision voting for the bill written by Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said he and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, were not ready to back it. And Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who has come out against it, showed no signs of backing down in his own TV appearance. As Graham and Cassidy pledged to keep trying to pass their bill, the White House and the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell gave differing accounts of the path ahead. White House legislative affairs director Marc Short predicted a Wednesday vote while a McConnell spokesman declined to publicly embrace that timeline. The fresh discord over a signature Republican promise added

turbulence to the start of a critical week for President Trump and McConnell, R-Ky. In addition to health care, they are both watching Tuesday’s special election primary runoff in Alabama. GOP leaders are also expected to unveil their most detailed blueprint yet of their tax reform plan. Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Collins cited concerns about how the Cassidy-Graham legislation would affect Medicaid recipients and people with preexisting medical conditions. “It is very difficult for me to envision a scenario where I would end up voting for this bill,” Collins said. “I have a number of serious reservations about it.” Two Republican senators — Paul and Arizona’s John McCain
— have already said they would vote against the bill. A third would be enough to defeat the bill, since no Democrats are expected to support it. Republicans hold a 52-48 advantage in the Senate. The bill has been rejected by national groups representing physicians, hospitals and insurers. The Congressional Budget Office has said it would not be able to assess how the bill would affect insurance premiums or the number of people with medical coverage “for at least several weeks.” But Trump and McConnell are trying to bring the bill to a vote by the end of this week to take advantage of a procedural rule allowing the plan to pass with just 51 votes. Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs, fourth from right, said NFL players are “a unified front.”
NFL players, owners respond to president’s criticisms with more anthem protests President Trump on Sunday reiterated his call to curb “disrespectful” protests by athletes.
MANUEL BALCE CENETA (AP)
NFL President Trump’s suggestion that NFL owners should fire players who kneel during the national anthem sparked a mass increase in those protests Sunday. About 150 players sat, knelt or raised their fists in defiance during the day’s games. A week ago, four players didn’t stand, and two raised their fists. As Trump prepared to board Air Force One to return to Washington from New Jersey on Sunday, he said players protesting the anthem were “very disrespectful to our country” and called again on owners to stop what he considers unpatriotic displays. “This has nothing to do with race,” Trump said. “This has to do with respect for our country.” Previous comments from the president turned the anthems — usually sung during commercials — into must-see TV as players, coaches, owners and executives showed solidarity in their defiance of Trump’s criticisms. “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, you’d say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired,’ ”
Trump said to applause Friday night at a rally in Huntsville, Ala. Those words reverberated across the Atlantic, where about two dozen players, including Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs, took a knee during the American anthem at Wembley Stadium in London, where Baltimore played Jacksonville. “We stand with our brothers,” Suggs said. “They have the right and we knelt with them today. To protest, nonviolent protest, is as American as it gets. ... We’re a unified front. There ain’t no dividing us. I guess we’re all son-of-a-bitches.”
Redskins-Raiders ended after Express’ deadline
Linebacker Von Miller was among the Broncos who took a knee in Buffalo on Sunday. “I felt like it was an attack on us,” Miller, who normally steers clear of politics and social issues, said of Trump’s comments. Tom Brady was among the Patriots who locked arms in solidarity in Foxborough, Mass. Aaron Rodgers did the same with teammates in Green Bay. Trump saw the arm-in-arm gestures as a win. Among his tweets Sunday was this: “Great solidarity for our National Anthem and for our Country. Standing with locked arms is good, kneeling is not
acceptable. Bad ratings!” A day after the rally in Alabama, Trump rescinded a White House invitation for the NBA champion Warriors because of Stephen Curry’s criticism of him. After Trump tweeted that the Warriors were not invited to visit Washington, Cavaliers superstar LeBron James called the president “a bum” on Twitter. The protest movement that swept the NFL began over a year ago when then-49ers QB Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during the anthem as a protest of police treatment of racial minorities. This season, no team has signed him, and some believe club owners are avoiding him. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin defended Trump’s attacks, saying Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that players “can do free speech on their own time.” The NFL and its players, often at odds, have been united in condemning the president’s criticisms. Patriots owner Robert Kraft, a friend and supporter who donated at least $1 million to Trump’s political efforts, expressed “deep disappointment” with Trump. ARNIE STAPLETON (AP)

A’s catcher first to take knee in MLB Athletics rookie catcher Bruce Maxwell became the first MLB player to kneel during the national anthem Saturday, pulling the sport into a protest movement that was criticized by President Trump at a rally Friday. Before a home game against the Rangers, Maxwell, 26, kneeled by his dugout, adopting a protest started by former 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick in response to police treatment of blacks. Maxwell, an African-American, told A’s management before the game of his intention to kneel and did not play in the team’s 1-0 win. He also knelt for the anthem Sunday. Maxwell grew up in Huntsville, Ala., the site of Trump’s rally Friday. Maxwell said “racism in the South is disgusting,” and his family dealt with it throughout his childhood there. (AP)

Buccaneers’ Evans hopes Trump ‘gets impeached’ Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans knelt before playing the Vikings on Sunday, and after the game discussed his decision with ESPN’s Josina Anderson. “We’re using our platform, freedom of speech, and he’s being very unpatriotic about it,” Evans said of President Trump. “I wish we had a better leader. Hopefully down the road he resigns or gets impeached. … He’s just trying to divide us.”

Bills and Broncos combine for NFL-high 35 protesters
Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi and several other players wear T-shirts in support of Colin Kaepernick before playing the Jets at Met Life Stadium on Sunday. The shirts are a reference to the former 49ers quarterback who was the first to take a knee during the national anthem last season.
Broncos players kneel during the national anthem before a game at the Bills. According to AP, at least 150 players around the NFL protested the anthem during Sunday’s morning and afternoon games. The highest total was 35 in Buffalo, where some fans were heard booing the players.

Harper slated to return tonight MLB Barring a setback or some other unforeseen change, the Nationals will activate Bryce Harper in Philadelphia tonight, according to people familiar with the situation. Harper has been out since Aug. 13 with a bone bruise in his left knee and a left calf strain, injuries that seemed fortunate after he slipped on a wet base in what at first looked like a gruesome mishap. But if all goes well, Harper will miss 40 games and no more, though whether he is able to play every day for the rest of the season remains to be seen. Harper, 24, has not played in an actual game since the injury

Nats to get star back after 40 games on DL with knee, calf injuries
Bryce Harper has been out since Aug. 13, when he injured his knee and calf.
because he was not ready to go on a rehab assignment before the minor league seasons ended. Harper and the Nationals never committed to a timetable, but had targeted the last week of the season, hoping he would be able to return in time to get atbats before the playoffs.
Everything has gone according to plan, including the two simulated games the Nationals built for him this week. Instead of sending him to West Palm Beach, Fla., to play instructional league games, the Nationals will work Harper back into game shape in the big leagues.
Harper’s return will restore the Nationals’ intended starting lineup (minus Adam Eaton) for the first time since May, and give the Nationals their full team — remodeled bullpen included — for the first time all season. Manager Dusty Baker has not been shy about discussing Harper’s potential impact, not only on the field but emotionally. Harper’s return will bump Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmerman, and Anthony Rendon down in the lineup. And it will shift Jayson Werth back to left field, where he will likely compete for October innings with Howie Kendrick. Washington’s A.J. Cole is scheduled to pitch against Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola tonight (7:05, MASN). The Nats beat the Mets 3-2 on Sunday in New York. CHELSEA JANES (THE WASHINGTON POST)

Sparks hold off late surge by Lynx to win Game 1 Chelsea Gray’s pull-up jumper with 2 seconds to play helped the Los Angeles Sparks avoid what would have been a stunning collapse and take Game 1 of the WNBA Finals 85-84 over the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. Gray scored a career-high 27 points and Candace Parker added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Sparks. Kyle Busch locks up spot in second round with win Kyle Busch earned a berth in the second round of NASCAR’s playoffs with a dominant victory Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Busch slipped through smoke from a multicar crash on the backstretch that knocked out Martin Truex Jr.’s run at a second straight win. Busch won in the No. 18 Toyota for the third time this season. Anthony has two years and about $54 million left on his contract. He agreed to waive his no-trade clause. (AP)

“Will & Grace” reunites Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally.
MUST-SEE THIS WEEK
1 ‘Young Sheldon’
CHRIS HASTON (NBC)
8:30 p.m. today on CBS
It made a difference ‘Will & Grace’ reduced homophobia, but can the series still have an impact today?
TELEVISION While discussing marriage equality on “Meet the Press” in 2012, Vice President Joe Biden said, “I think ‘Will & Grace’ probably did more to educate the American public than almost anything anybody has ever done so far.” This assertion is as much a part of the show’s legacy as actor Megan Mullally’s squeak is. “Will & Grace,” which ran on NBC from 1998 to 2006, brought two charming gay men into millions of American living rooms — the first gay leads on a hit sitcom in history. And this idea that TV can lower prejudice is backed by science, in part through the 2006 study “Can One TV Show Make a Difference?” The big news from the study,
conducted by Edward Schiappa, Peter Gregg and Dean Hewes, was this finding: “For those viewers with the fewest direct gay contacts, exposure to ‘Will & Grace’ appears to have the strongest potential influence on reducing sexual prejudice, while for those with many gay friends, there is no significant relationship between levels of prejudice and their exposure to the show.” But as “Will & Grace” returns for a revival Thursday, does it still have the same impact, in a world where gay marriage is legal, and New York City’s Pride parade sponsors include T-Mobile, WalMart and the Walt Disney Co.? Minimizing homophobia was never the intention of “Will & Grace” creators Max Mutchnick
and David Kohan. “Our directive was to write a romantic comedy,” Kohan says. A traditional rom-com needs an obstacle to keep the man and woman apart. “The more insurmountable the obstacle,” Kohan explains, “the longer the show can go.” Making one of the two characters gay certainly provides an obstacle. Mutchnick adds, “If we had been trying to make social commentary, we definitely wouldn’t have lasted.” When asked whether they plan to continue tackling LGBT issues in the new version, Kohan replies, “Especially the B and T parts of those letters,” but clarifies, “not because it’s an expectation, but because it makes for interesting stories, because it’s stuff that comes up in people’s
lives in the writing room.” “Will & Grace” could potentially be a polarizing show. Just before last fall’s election, the gang reunited to make a one-off webisode, which not-so-shyly endorsed Hillary Clinton. (The short’s success sparked plans for the return of the series.) How will the show cross the current minefield of partisan America? “Not lightly,” Kohan says. “It’s not like we are saying, ‘We have to be careful because a lot of people are triggered easily on both sides,’ ” he explains. “Our attitude is, no, people will watch because it reminds them of a time when people weren’t triggered so easily, when things were less polarized.”
This new spinoff of CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” stars “Big Little Lies” actor Iain Armitage as the super smart 9-year-old version of Sheldon Cooper back when he was attending high school in East Texas.
2 ‘Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders’ 10 p.m. Tuesday on NBC
This true-crime anthology is a dramatization of a sensational 1990s case: When brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez were tried for murdering their parents.
3 ‘Saturday Night Live’ 11:30 p.m. Saturday on NBC
Hot off last season’s success, “Saturday Night Live” is returning with a bang. Ryan Gosling hosts the premiere episode with musical guest Jay Z. The episode will also air live across the whole country. (EXPRESS)

Bill Clinton’s novel will be a Showtime show
Showtime has won a bidding war to develop former President Bill Clinton and author James Patterson’s upcoming thriller, “The President Is Missing,” into a series. The network announced the deal Friday, months away from the book’s publication in June. In the collaboration with Patterson, Clinton provides an insider’s perspective of having been in the White House. It’s the first time Clinton has helped write fiction. (AP)

seem like a deranged metrosexual, who cockily proclaims: “You don’t want to tussle with Lee Russell because I have the muscle.” The other is lumpy Neal Gamby (series co-creator Danny McBride), the meanest bully on hall patrol: “Get back to class, you savages,” he barks at scofflaw students. As Season 2 begins, Gamby is recuperating from being shot on the school parking lot, allegedly by a random “stereo thief.” Disgraced principal Dr. Belinda Brown has left the premises. Russell is the new leader of North Jackson High, smarmily reading the cafeteria menu on looming TV monitors as if he were a North Korean dictator.

If there were a Vice Principals Anti-Defamation League, it would surely send a ceaseand-desist letter to HBO. The series “Vice Principals,” back for its second and final season (10:30 p.m. Sundays), presents two of the most sniveling, petty and vindictive vice principals you could imagine. Humiliate students? It’s in their DNA. Burn down the principal’s house because they hate her for taking the job they covet? Sure, why not! One is Lee Russell (Walton Goggins), whose frosted tips, glinty eyes and inferiority/ superiority complex make him
But was it really a random thief who shot Gamby? Maybe it was one of his many enemies, like the ex-principal or the countless kids he’s harassed. Gamby has an ugly racist streak and targets African-American students, like the nerd whom he accuses of concealing a weapon in his locker … Oh, wait, it’s a scientific calculator! The show is rude and crude — perfect for our rude and crude age. And it can be quite amusing. When Gamby subs for an honors history teacher, he knows nothing about history so he tells the students he’s going to get “a little more creative with the learning.” He looks at his phone, sees it’s the anniversary of the death of horror film actor Boris Karloff and tells the students: “Today, I want your best artists’ renditions of Frankenstein.” Mr. Gamby, we’re not laughing with you, we’re laughing at you.

Several media outlets, including TMZ, BuzzFeed and People magazine, reported Friday that 20-yearold Kylie Jenner, the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner family, is expecting a child in February with her boyfriend, Travis Scott. “They started telling friends a few weeks ago,” an insider told People. “The family has known for quite some time. She is really excited and so is Travis.” When New York magazine asked Kardashian family matriarch Kris Jenner about the news at a Milan fashion week event, she said: “[Kylie’s] not confirmed anything. I think it’s kind of wild that everyone is just assuming that that’s just happening.” (AP/EXPRESS)

You know what they say: Fifth time’s a charm!
“Tonight, I’m taking a knee for America.”
Gary Oldman has gotten married for the fifth time, according to the New York Post. The British actor wed writer and art curator Gisele Schmidt in a “secret” ceremony earlier this month at the Los Angeles home of Oldman’s manager. The two later walked the red carpet together at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Oldman’s film “Darkest Hour” on Sept. 12. The Post noted nobody noticed they had tied the knot. A representative for Aaron Carter issued a statement Friday saying the troubled singer “has decided to enter a facility to improve his health and work on his overall wellness.” Carter later took to Twitter that day to speak about his decision. “My loved ones, I would like to tell all of you that I will be disappearing for a while to work on myself,” he wrote before adding he is releasing new music in the near future.
