Vote No.1 William LAVELLE Professional Approach - Better Planning

BETTER PLANNING FOR PALMERSTOWN A message from William - “Why I’m running for election” Dear Resident, On June 5th, I will be contesting the local elections for Palmerstown & Lucan. In recent years I have volunteered my professional planning expertise as an architect and planner to help many residents and community groups in both Lucan & Palmerstown. It is based on this experience that I decided to put my name forward for the local election as I believe I can bring this same professional approach to delivering Better Planning for Palmerstown on issues such as traffic management, planning of community facilities and

better community policing. If you like what you read in this newsletter then I would ask you please support my

campaign by Better Planning by giving me No.1 Vote on June 5th.

Vote No.1 William LAVELLE BETTER AREA PLANNING William to oppose Palmerstown Traffic calming proposals in current form South Dublin County Council have published a proposed new Traffic Calming Plan for Palmerstown including plans to make Turret Road, and part the Oval and Woodfarm Drive one-way.

A Local Area Plan for Palmerstown? During his canvassing in Palmerstown, many residents have outlined their view that because of 30 years of bad planning, Palmerstown has been a neglected community, with no Garda Station, no library, bad traffic planning etc.

January on the new County Development Plan and indeed William was the only person to make such a request. If elected to South Dublin County this issue will be a priority for William.

William believes Palmerstown now deserves a Local Area Plan to provide a new integrated and sustainable masterplan for the future development of the area, including traffic management and proviso of community facilities. William included this proposal in his submission to the county council in William and Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny

Following comprehensive consultations with residents in the area, William has grave concerns that this scheme may in fact cause more problems than it will solve and as such will oppose this scheme in it’s current form if elected to the county council. William is currently finalising a detailed professional submission outlining his concerns and proposing alternatives.

would be part of a Local Area Plan. If elected to South Dublin County William is committed to progressing this proposal.

The National Road Authority has agreed to fund a study on this proposed road project. William has been lobbying both the NRA & the council to progress this important project, which would alleviate traffic congestion on Kennelsfort road and allow easier movement between both sides of the N4. William believes this project should also be integrated with a broader Traffic Strategy for whole of Palmerstown which

Vote No.1 William LAVELLE BETTER POLICING William wants single Garda Station for all of Palmerstown the Community Gardai are doing their best to address these concerns, William believes that Palmerstown looses out as it is split down the middle between the two Gardai districts of Ronanstown & Ballyfermot.

Many residents in Palmerstown have been in contact with William regarding their concerns over anti-social behaviour. These problems range from drinking parties in Glenaulin Park, Waterstown Park & in Palmerstown’s many laneways, to graffiti and complaints of intimidation by gangs of youths. While

As part of his efforts to respond to residents’ concern, William has been lobbying for Better planning of local policing services including a review of Gardai station catchment areas and a singed Community Policing team for the entire of Palmerstown. In response to a parliamentary question tabled in the Dáil on William’s behalf, the Minister for Justice has now advised that a review will take place in 2009 and this will involve realigning Garda station catchment areas

to local authority boundaries. This will more than likely mean that all of Palmerstown will be out under the control of a single Garda station.

Better Policing for Waterstown & Glenaulin Parks Living beside a park should be a pleasant experience. However, in too many cases, residents in areas near parks suffer the consequences of anti-social behaviour by gangs drinking in our parks at night. This is unacceptable. It’s time to take back our parks!

and the council's Park Rangers to ensure better policing of our parks; Closing off access points and routes used by gangs to access parks at nights; Greater use of night-vision CCTV in and around our parks.

If elected to South Dublin County Council, William is committed to: A review of community policing patrol areas and rostering to ensure we get more Gardai 'on the beat', especially on weekend nights; Greater cooperation between Gardai

In recent years, William has objected to planning applications for new off-licenses in smaller retail stores and filling stations and last autumn he joined with residents from one estate in going to Court to oppose the renewal of a liquor license for one retail store that had become the

focus of local anti-social behaviour. If elected to the County Council, William will lead a crackdown on troublesome off-licenses.
