Local Election Candidate 2014 Local Government Reform Requires Suitably Qualified & Experienced Candidates Dear Resident, Local Government in Ireland is about to undergo long overdue reform. Legislation which will provide significant changes in local government has b een published b y the Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan TD. These changes will provide for significant improvements to our local authority functions, structures and funding mechanisms. These reforms a im to d eliver a local government s ystem that is the main vehicle for local public service delivery, while leading economic, social and community development. Underlying this is the requirement to represent residents and communities effectively and with accountability. It is important to note that legislation alone will not make the required improvements. Fingal County Council is gaining new responsibilities in the areas of economic and enterprise development while also gaining more control when it comes to spending our taxes. This is why now more than ever we need councillors who know how to manage significant budgets, who have strong cross functional business leadership experience, who are delivery focused and who can make sure that your property taxes will b e well spent in your interest and in your locality. Fingal officials will need to be held to account, to ensure financial waste is eliminated, allowing a reduction in property taxes and commercial rates. I have the required experience and I will take a particular interest in Fingal County Councils new role in economic development to ensure that as our economy recovers we grow jobs and investment in our community. I will ensure that we maximise the effectiveness of these reforms for the residents, businesses, sporting and voluntary organisations within our community.
