Neale with Fine Gael Presidential candidate Gay Mitchell MEP

Gay Mitchell for President – a note from Neale “Gay Mitchell MEP has been selected by Fine Gael as their candidate for the Presidential election due this October. I had the privilege of working in Gay’s office in Brussels from 2005 – 2007 and I was able to see up close his high level of commitment to our country as well as a work ethic that inspired me to seek elected office in my own right. “Aside from my previous working relationship with Gay, I am certain that he is the best qualified person to become our next President. “Much like Mary Robinson redefined the Presidency in 1990 I believe we now need a President with the political experience and contacts to go fight for Ireland on the world stage, to press our case in Europe and to sell Ireland as a place to do business, I am sure that as President, Gay will be able to do this.”

Nitelink restored to Ballinteer

Aircoach comes to Ballinteer After much discussion a very welcome transport development came recently with an airport service for our area from Aircoach. This excellent service now connects Ballinteer, Churchtown, Dundrum and Rathfarnham to the airport.

At the end of April, Dublin Bus announced that it was cancelling the 48N service which ran all the way to Rathfarnham from the city centre serving Dundrum and Ballinteer on the way.

However, following intense lobbying by Neale and Deputy Olivia Mitchell along with local residents, Dublin Bus has agreed to extend the 46N through Ballinteer and Dundrum. Under the revised service, operational since June the 46N now serves Brehon Field Road, Stone Masons Way, Ballinteer and Dundrum.

Due to the collapse of the property market, there has been a major decline in the numbers entering the Affordable Housing scheme; as a result the Council currently has over 100 Affordable Housing units lying idle on its books. In order to address this fall off, a new Rent to Buy scheme will be made available to affordable housing applicants for homes in two developments in Stepaside: Belarmine (27 units) and The Belfry (7 units) Applicants will be able to lease the units for a period of 3 years at a fixed rent. The unit may be purchased at any time during the 3-year period at a price which is 15% below current market value. 80% of the rent paid will be offset against the cost of the unit. The criteria for consideration under the scheme are the same as for the Council’s Affordable Scheme. Generally, applicants must be in full time employment and be first time buyers, although certain exemptions apply. The income limit for a single person would be generally under €50,000 and under €70,000 for 2 people in the previous tax year. They must be in a position to obtain loan approval for the affordable sale price.
