“Don’t Dream It... Be It” Hey Everyone!

It's like a dream that I have been invited to share my story here at Better Networker. It seems like only yesterday that I was mopping floors in a

supermarket, dreaming of the day when I might be FREE. That was 11

years ago, and since then the networking lifestyle has given me more than I

ever imagined!

I hope that this piece and the corresponding audio will help those of you who may still be dreaming to BELIEVE that it is possible. Thank you so

much, Mike Dillard and the whole staff at Better Networker, for putting

At that time I was an obese, depressed housewife who only

dreamed of being pretty again after having 2 kids and

gaining a TON of weight. Fate took me by the hand that

day, when my father in law bought me a box of David’s diet powders and pills, knowing I wanted it and couldn’t afford it. I figured “Hey I NEED to take this stuff now, ‘cause someone bought it for me!”

Soon I was looking and feeling better and David asked,

“Hey Diane, why don’t you come to our MEETING.” I said

“Okay, Dave,” thinking it was going to be some weight watchers type of ‘dealie’ where they would weigh and

measure me and we would talk about our challenges. When

I walked into the room, though, all the people were dressed to the nines, heck they almost sparkled! They were so darn

friendly and as the music pumped away I began to tap my foot and think to myself, “This ain’t no Chubby Club!!! Hmmm... this is kinda fun!”

We sat down, and one by one, as people told stories about how they lost weight and got healthy, I found myself

thinking, “If ONLY I could look like one of these ladies!” I

had a long way to go -- at least a hundred pounds to lose --

but there were several people there who HAD done it, and I started to think that MAYBE it was possible for me.

My story began in November 1999, when my cousin David showed up at a family party. I was SHOCKED to see that he had lost over 120 pounds and looked like an absolutely new person.

THEN the money stories began. One by one, people that

seemed pretty average walked on stage and shared how

much money they were making. I nearly passed out! That was it -- I was IN! I wrote a check for $72.95 on the spot,

bought my business in a box, and DECIDED right then that

I was gonna lose 100 pounds and get rich!

Little did I know that what I had just witnessed was a good old fashioned MLM opportunity meeting -- and little did I know that just a short time later I would be part of “the

show,” inspiring others and helping them BELIEVE they

could do it too. That was 11 years ago. SO MUCH has happened since then!

Family:

The oldest of three daughters, I

was born in Brooklyn, New York, to a stay-at-

home mom and a mechanic. We moved to

rural Hopewell Junction, New York, when I

was 12, so I experienced the best of both worlds -- city and country.

I am the proud mother of 2 beautiful daughters Jillian, 17,

and Sarah, 14 -- and wife of 20 years to Larry. The girls

were the reason that all this began, as I left my full time job at a college to be with them full time when my second

daughter was born. I just could not stand to be away from them any longer, but living on only one income was not

working. We had bought a house without realizing what it would cost monthly to run it, and ran up $40k in credit

card debt pretty darn quickly trying to continue living the way we had been when I was working.

go to college, but much to my parent’s dismay I dropped out after 2 years.

Something just didn’t feel right about it. I

now know that I was INSTINCTUALLY resisting

eventually, going back to complete a bachelor’s degree in

Spanish when I was 26

Year Started Business:

I started in

1999 with a major weight loss MLM. I still

retain the distributorship today, but it is no longer my primary business.

Type of Business:

Today I specialize in

Home and Small Business Development and Services. I own a training community called

the Home and Small Business Network,

which provides tools and training to entrepreneurs either

new to marketing and using the internet, or those who want

to advance their marketing and internet skills.

Based on a concept similar to the Chamber of Commerce,

my company offers professional training, access to hands-

on workshops, product discounts, syndication services, and internet tools (instant capture pages, video email, sales

pages, data base management, contact management, and so

forth) to members, It also offers an opportunity for people to earn an income teaching small group classes to

members, and an affiliate platform for product sales and

fulfillment -- like Click Bank -- for both electronic products and hard goods (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.)

Target Market:

Frustrated home or

small business owners who want to learn the core skills of marketing. Folks who already

have a business or an opportunity that they

So when I saw the MLM lifestyle I was SURE this was my

answer -- a way to be with my girls and still make a good

influence, develop more leads, communicate better with prospects and close more sales.

Today I am

affiliate of several companies that use a multilevel pay plan, although I do not consider any

of them to be “my business”. I promote them

as tools and services to the entrepreneurs that I serve.

I do not

consider the number in my downline a

relevant measurement for what I do, as I am

more of a HYBRID than a traditional network

marketer. Considering the differences in structure among

companies, comparing downline numbers can be deceiving

and is not necessarily a relevant measure of success. I can

tell you that I receive overrides on thousands of people, and

have 28 different residual income streams at last count. I am adding new products and services all the time, depending on the needs of my client base.

I have 1 employee and 4 interns.

Best Month (Gross Revenues): $42,000

Hours Worked Per Week During Start-Up Phase: Gosh...I worked any hours I could around 2 little kids. I’d say

about 20 hours, most of them in the middle of

the night.

Greatest Challenge Overcome: Trying to figure out how to keep the ball rolling around 2 little girls with MANY

needs. At times I was EXHAUSTED, getting

up early to care for them and working late into the night. I

learned to recruit on the West Coast so I could use the time difference, and to squeeze marketing into every nook and cranny of my day. Another challenge was working with practically NO budget when I started out. We were

BROKE...I mean NO MONEY...I mean bill collectors

calling so much I knew them by their first names!. At one point, I actually took a job mopping floors in a

supermarket at night so I could have $100 a week to

market with.

And last but not least, once the money really started to

come in, I needed the DISCIPLINE to use ALL of it to pay

off our debt. I did not spend ONE DIME of my income for several years until the debt was paid off, the house was

paid down, we had a nest egg in the bank, and we had paid

CASH for a new car. I wanted us SECURE and I never

wanted to be broke, in debt or financially insecure again.

Company. Plus I LOVE to use StumbleUpon.com to find cool business stuff to read.

I went on a Malcolm Gladwell kick a bit ago,

and read everything he wrote. I LOVED The

Tipping Point. If you guys don’t know about his 10,000 Hours you MUST read that book. I am now working

Getting Rich, and The Master Key System -- I am a freak

Relaxes By: Escaping to a favorite resort here in Connecticut... watching a good

movie... shopping with my girls... preparing a wonderful family meal.

Walking and a

little weight training. (I have to admit I am pretty lazy in this area.)

The PEOPLE. I just LOVE the people.

Watching them have small successes that lead to BIG successes. Watching people rise into

leadership positions -- seeing them stand up and lead.

Getting calls and letters letting me know I made a

difference for them. My goal is to be the teacher that I

PRAYED for 11 years ago to the folks that come to me. I

wanted THE TRUTH... I wanted it STRAIGHT… and I

didn’t want to be patronized. So that is how I treat people. I KNOW that anyone can become successful in this

business. It's just a matter of desire. I believe in each and every one of them often more than they believe in

It should only take 20 minutes to write an article. What? You've got to be kidding me!

Yes, someone actually told me that. My jaw dropped and my eyes opened wide! It takes that long just to come up with a heading I'm happy with using a headline analyzer. Hmmm, maybe I don't have enough experience. Maybe my brain isn't wired to gather my thoughts and put them on paper that fast. I am definitely super hopeful though. When I first started writing articles I was hard pressed to even come up with an idea! I had to find something meaningful to me, use that as a guideline, and create my article. I still do that.

You Are Still Learning To Be A Better Networker... It’s not easy making money in Network Marketing (or any home business for that matter). At least not for most people I know. You hear made-up facts like 99.97% of network marketers never make any money at all. Or that 9 out of 10 fail MISERABLY in their first business... and after spending their life savings... are then forced to live in their aging mother’s basement for the next ten years... while they lick their wounds and gripe about how evil network marketing is... while they work for some grouchy pain in the ace boss for less than they need to pay the bills...

But it doesn’t have to be that way! There’s nothing stopping you from getting paid to learn the network marketing game. And get paid today while you work on your financial freedom and retirement. Whatever freedom and retirement means to you. Whether it’s the stereotypical life on the beach with a martini, or a quiet evening with the kids or grandkids in the backyard, or kicking back with a bowl of popcorn while you watch the game (or a movie) in your newly renovated home theatre - you will get there.

DVDs, CDs, MP3s... and the whole “shebang”... then lock themselves in a dungeon somewhere while the kids are at school... hide from their spouses for hours, days, or even weeks while they plug-in their headphones... get red-eye from staring at the computer screen... and study until their brain feels like swollen J-E-L-L-O. Well, you already know that’s not working for you. You know that you could logically spend the rest of your life learning without earning and planting magic beans and still not make a penny, nickel, or dime till the end of time. Because, as important as learning is, it’s also a frighteningly effective excuse!

It’s just an excuse so you don’t have to face the real world and start making REAL MONEY!

This might be the easiest way to get started in network marketing without a fuss and make money while you are still learning the ropes.

The truth is, if you want to “make it” in this biz, then you are going to have to find some way to learn on your feet while you bring home the cash. You’re going to have to make more than you spend on your business from day one or you are going to go broke, rack up debt, and start missing bill payments...

Now that’s all fine and dandy if you want to retire in some lowrent ghetto neighbourhood for the rest of your life or risk being dependent on a brother, sister, or spouse for your daily bread. But that’s not how grown-ups or six and seven figure pros play the game. Because they already know what works. Sure, they buy every book, webinar, seminar, or course they can get their hands on but they make money while they are learning.

So, “How do you get into the money fast?” And how do you get paid to learn while you earn?

Well, I don’t have all the answers but I’ll tell you where you shouldn’t start if you really want to make money in this industry: Your opportunity! I don’t care if you’re in Mona Vie, Numis Network, SendOutCards, Vitamark. Prepaid Legal Services, Wealth Masters, or any other opportunity... because let’s face the facts... if you were already “in the money” you probably wouldn’t be reading this.

You would be too busy making money!

Now, if you want to get into the money fast then what you really need is a generic front-end product that will make you money whether your leads decide to join your team or not. I’m talking about something you can sell upfront to cover the cost of your marketing and advertising expenses. Something you can use even if you’re not a tech-savvy person.
