Iowa’s Matthew Shepard Scholarship Program works with highly motivated students who are interested in advice and assistance from adult mentors to accelerate their academic experience and performance, improve their adjustment to professional standards of behavior, goals, ethics and success and out-perform their age group in transitioning to adult leadership roles. All scholarships are renewable each semester for up to four years upon successfully maintaining a 3.0 GPA, continued service to the LGBTQ Community and an interview with the Scholarship Committee.
Silver Scholarships Iowa’s Silver Matthew Shepard Scholarship is an award Base Scholarship1 of up to $9,000 over 4 years. The initial scholarship of GPA Bonuses $500 per semester may be used for tuition, books or Internship Bonuses fees at any college or university in the US.

Matthew Shepard Scholars may earn an additional $500 per semester for achieving exceptional academic results.
Matthew Shepard Scholars may earn an additional $500 for completing an approved internship each summer.
a 3.25 GPA, second year scholars must achieve a 3.5 GPA and third and fourth year scholars must achieve a 3.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale for 12 or more hours.
Matthew Shepard Scholars are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 of better with 12 or more credit hours per semester to remain eligible for scholarship funding and renewal.

Iowa’s Gold Matthew Shepard Scholarship covers in-state tuition, books and fees at Iowa State University, the University of Iowa or the University of
students individual situation. Matthew upon graduation. The award of Iowa’s Matthew Shepard Scholarships are publicized, and presented at scholarship recipients’ school awards program and at Iowa’s Matthew Shepard Scholarship Awards Dinner. Scholarship recipients are required to attend all scholarship events, including Scholarship Orientation, the Scholarship Awards Dinner and College Prep Seminar.

Matthew Shepard Scholarships are awarded to students with a reputation for honesty, integrity and community service, who respect themselves and others and who conduct themselves in such a way as to demonstrate moral and ethical leadership in their own lives and inspire others in kind.
