Q Q Q 10

How did you get into street photography?

A

I worked in Tokyo in a photo studio. It was mainly portrait shooting. Later I moved to Nice in France. I love shooting portrait, but when I came to France I had no photo work first. That is why I went on the street where people were to shoot portraits. That’s where all started

What is it in your subjects that make you want to capture them?

A

The subject of my photographic capture is light and shade but also human drama. Light and shades are as emotional as life. And lights and shades tell us the human life is there. There is mainly one person appears in my pictures. The meaning is that everyone is its main character of the film called ‘life’, and everyone is lonely. From the birth to death. Portrait talks about life. Street is the stage of life.

Your street photographs are mainly in B&W. What do you think makes you chose B&W over color in street photography?

A

As mentioned, the subject of my photograph is light and shadow. Light is white, shadow is black. The photograph of BW is more suitable for my expression than color. Life is monochrome.

A & Q Q

Q

How much does your equipment help you to execute your artistic vision and what equipment do you use?

A

I think that cameras and equipment are my eyes and spokespersons for words. I am not particularly care about the type and quality of the camera. Any camera can shoot pictures. If there is light, you can take pictures. I am using a Canon 7d. The lens is mainly Canon 40 mm, f 2.8. The reason I use this camera is because I use it for my work too. In my work, a certain level of quality is required. And I‘m also very familiar with this camera, so it’s only reasonable that I will use it on the street too.

What would you tell a newcomer who asks for your advice on how to start?

A

If you want to make street photography, go to the street. Every type of camera will serve the purpose. If you can take a picture and do not think or worrying too much about it. Shoot more and more things that are attracted to you. Soon you’ll find your style and how you want to express it. You’ll going to see a lot of pictures. It is not just photographs of street but also to enjoy various types of pictures. I am glad that I live and work in this era, because I can see amazing photos from all over the world. Everyday

Muroiwa san, thank you very much for taking the time for this quick Q&A!
