Meet Ginger, a soft beautiful 1 ½ year old domestic shorthaired cat looking for a special human. Ginger’s owner died and left her heartbroken. She is well behaved and stays out of her cage most of the time at the shelter. She is good with other cats and has many cat friends. She doesn’t like to be held by just anyone so to most people she is a “see but not touch” kind of cat. There have been some human connections that she allowed a person to hold and pet her, but she has to pick her person. Come meet Ginger, and see if she will pick you to be her lifelong companion Ginger’s adoption fee is $60.00 which includes first shots, worming, and sterilization. Anyone interested in adopting Ginger, please go to heberspringshumanesociety.com and complete an adoption application. If your application is approved, a volunteer will contact you to set up a meet and greet appointment.

Community Activities: I try to be as active as possible in the community and have served on the board of directors at the Chamber of Commerce. Through our businesses I have also been able to volunteer my time with events throughout the years which included helping my father, Ricky Davis, with the Fireworks shows here in Heber Springs, and also helped with putting together banquets for the Greers Ferry Lake Area Razorback club. Most recently I have been able to work closely with a wonderful foundation, Make-A-Wish, and through our businesses have been able to fully fund and grant wishes for kids in our local communities.

As we all have changes and adjustments taking place in our homes and lives, with school starting back and summer coming to an end, I can’t help but take a moment to realize how quickly it all seems to be passing by. My children are parents to my wonderful grandchildren and are in the thick of the hustle and bustle of working to keep it all going in their own homes (which is not an easy feat these days) and I have to say they do it beautifully. I couldn’t be more proud of them.Ihope we all take the time to look up from day in and day out chores to realize how fast it all goes by, the seasons are like blinks of an eye and then it is gone. Before the winter months arrive, make sure you take a day to step out and look around at all that Cleburne County awards us and take a kid fishing or set on the bank and take in the beauty we are blessed with and file it away for a memory to grab ahold of and warm you when the cooler winds blow in.

Hobbies: I love collecting (and playing) board games. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to my free time, and one of my favorite things to do is play board/ card games with my friends and family. I also like to play pickleball, love watching movies, and during the summer love going out on the boat with my family.

Where did you grow up? I grew up here in Heber Springs, spent 5 years in NWA getting my Bachelors of Art degree at U of A in Fayetteville, and then moved back to Heber Springs in 2015 Work: I am a Franchisee with Slim Chickens and Sonic Drive In. Currently I own (along with my 5 other business partners who include my older brother Scott Davis, and father Ricky Davis) five Slim Chickens restaurants located in Searcy AR, and around the Memphis area. Our Sonic businesses are located all over the state of Arkansas and total 31 locations in all. My main role is to oversee the technology and marketing at our restaurants, but I also wear many other hats including helping with our accounts payable office, new location development, and other administrative duties.

Words to Live by: Henry Ford said it best: “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you are right.” What do you enjoy most about being a part of the Heber Springs Community? I love Heber Springs because it is more than just a community of individuals; it is friends and families who are looking out for each other, connected, and invested in each other. I don’t think there is another community out there that can be as big as we are and still have that small town feel like Heber Springs.

What is something people may not know about you? I am a big Disney fan. If my wife would let me, I would go for vacation there every year.

Family: I am lucky/blessed to have 3 incredible ladies in my life who include my beautiful wife Allison Davis, and 2 wonderful kids; Emily (10 yrs old), and Ella (6 yrs old).

Idea of a fun weekend: A fun weekend for me would be spending the day out on the lake and then coming home and playing some games with family/ friends.

Drasco Trading Post

Drasco Trading Post, known by most as DTP, has become a very popular biker rest stop with customers arriving from all over the continental United States, plus many visitors from around the world.David and Beckye Lee moved back to Beckye’s native Arkansas after David lost his job when they closed the non-profit in California because funding was cut off during the 1990 recession. Wanting to get back on solid ground they decided steady jobs would take care of the day-to-day bills but to rebuild a nest egg, other options needed to be explored.Davidsays the current DTP location kept calling to him and had potential (potential has become a banned word in the household, but that’s a story for another time). Seemingly unsalable, surrounded by waist high weeds and scores of mimosa trees overrunning the property, he decided it was ideal for something. The couple figured out a way to purchase the property and Beckye ran the store with David helping on weekends and evenings after his day job. They began by selling off their personal

The motorcycle community turned out to be some of the best and most loyal customers they had ever dealt with and soon DTP had adopted an extended family numbering in the hundreds. This community is very generous and charity oriented with untold amounts of food, gifts, and money raised for Arkansas causes. DTP started an annual Cleburne County Santa Run on the first Saturday of December, this year

household goods in a flea market environment. Quickly running out of personal possessions they hit yard sales, auctions, storage sales etc. Down the road as sales increased and the tourist were frequenting the shop, they would go to the Dallas Market and purchase collectables, furniture, and unique cabin decor. Always keeping the business in a fluid state, trying to provide for the needs of their customers and keep a successful and sustainable retail model in place.Justby happenstance did it turn into a biker store. David had purchased a used motorcycle after complaining for years that he had to sell his when they moved here. While at the dealership, trying to purchase a few accessories, he noticed they were marked extremely over suggested retail. When asked why they were so high the owner became heated, said a few choice words which included, “if you don’t like it start your own.” And that folks, was the beginning of the DTP transition to a motorcycle shop!

In time, the biker products were moving so well the transition became 100% and everything else was closed out at fire sale pricing.

Callie James is enthused to share her story with her friends and invite them to YoungLife, summer 2023, where, this year, she aided with chores, services, and activities.

Callie

YoungLife has staff from all over the country who go to assignments for summer camp. Her father, Jeffery, had an assignment at Crooked Creek Ranch in Fraser Colorado.

“For three weeks, Callie was right there by my side learning the in’s and out’s of YoungLife. She even got to work on her own program character, DanAlicia, a little bit,” says Jeffery. “Callie made new friends from Kansas, Texas, and Colorado. She attended club every day, all camp worship, and leader meetings when she wasn’t busy making new friendships, while taking part in camp activities like the zip line or the swimming pool!”

Callie is in 6th grade and looking forward to helping out again next year! sponsored by Cowboy Cherolet Buick GMC

The wet city streets were glass under the dazzling lights. The trees, art installations of color and form. The sparse grasses knelt in homage to the great rectangles blocks of infrastructure that towered above them with no enthusiasm. The winds floated in and buffeted between buildings, in a hurry to fly out over lake, to river, to sea. The people were too busy to notice how amazing it all was. They were burdened with purpose, intention, and a blindness to the present moment. It was all about in a minute, later tonight, or all the tomorrows to come. Now, was a slipping ethereal thought, a bent blade of grass, a single mushroom grown, bloomed, and gone under everyone’s blurry noses as they dash about and run amuck.
