Welcome to the 2019 Tour de l’Alberta! Well it’s been quite the ride! From the TDA’s humble beginnings 25 years ago to the incredible annual cycling event that we have today, the Tour has become one of the “Must Ride” events in Western Canada. We are proud to be partnered yet again with the City of Beaumont. Croissant sandwiches, crepes and Alberta beer are just a few ways that help us celebrate the wonderful hospitality of rural Central Alberta. We can’t thank our sponsors and volunteers enough for supporting this great ride, and thank you to everyone participating. We hope you have as much fun as we had creating the ride for you! Many new faces and even more returning friends help make this a true celebration of cycling, community and culture. Whether this your first Tour or your 25th, we want to welcome you to the 25th edition of the TDA and to offer our heartfelt thanks to the City of Beaumont, all the volunteers, sponsors, and of course the riders that will surely make this the best TDA yet! Here’s to the next 25! Have a great ride!

MESSAGE FROM JILL JORDAN
As someone who only started riding in 2013 the TDA was one of the only rides I could find that was welcoming to all levels of riders. There was never pressure to be the fastest or have the best bike, the Tour was about coming out and meeting people from all walks of life and just having a great and enjoyable ride. It is my honour to attach my name to the Tour as the VIP sponsor. I get to watch riders get the same excitement I did lining up to start the ride just as I experienced years ago. The camaraderie, the support, the encouragement and the smiles that an event like this generates are incredible. We look forward to seeing everyone for the 25th and creating great memories! Jill Jordan

MESSAGE FROM the Edmonton Bicycle and Touring Club On behalf of the Executive and membership of the Edmonton Bicycle and Touring Club (EBTC) I welcome you to our 25th Anniversary Tour de L’Alberta! Last year (2018) our club celebrated our 40th Anniversary. We are the longest continuously active cycling club in Western Canada, if not in all of Canada! If we are not the oldest we are certainly the BEST! The Tour de l’ Alberta was founded in 1994 by Don Peddie, a long time member of EBTC. He will riding in this 25th Tour, if you see him on the route be sure to say “Hi, Don”! The lasting success of EBTC and the TDA is a testament to all of the members past and present who have tirelessly volunteered for all the activities we run as a club, including the Tour. Three years ago we acknowledged that the Tour had become unmanageable for volunteers and we partnered with Revolution Cycle. While EBTC provides many volunteers, we are very happy to have Revolution as our partner as we continue this superb tradition. We could not do it without them and our fabulous Tour Manager Allen Jacobson! As an Executive we aim for three goals for our members – Fitness, Friendship and Fun and I am adding a 4th for the TDA – Food! I would like to wish everyone their best ride, some new friends and lots of fun on our 25th Anniversary Tour, and do enjoy the food! Be safe out there! Anne-Marie Adachi, President EBTC www.bikeclub.ca

History of the Tour De L’alberta What is the Tour de l’Alberta? The Tour de l’Alberta is a one-day bicycle ride, celebrating cycling, culture and community. The event takes place on the last Sunday of the Tour de France. Beaumont, Alberta has been home to the TDA since 2015.
History The Tour de l’Alberta was started in 1994 by the Edmonton Bicycle & Touring Club as a club ride for members to celebrate the Tour de France in our French communities, and to promote recreational cycling by participants of all ages and abilities.
Growth In its inaugural ride, the club saw just over 20 cyclists ride 100 miles. Since that day in 1994, the ride has grown to its current state of 800 to 1,000 cyclists with three different ride options: • 50 km - Half Metric Century • 100 km - Metric Century • 165 km - Century
Popularity The Tour de l’Alberta is one of the largest one-day cycling rides in Western Canada, and is a staple on the local sporting event calendar. The Tour has introduced new riders to the sport as well as returning participants from previous years. We even have people come from as far away as Norway to take part.
Experience The Tour de l’Alberta is a fully supported event. The ride is patrolled by mechanical support. Rest stops are readily available along the routes with food and water. After the ride, everyone gathers together for a buffet-style dinner, beer garden, and live music. 10

F.A.Q. When and Where? The Tour de l’Alberta is always on the last day of the Tour de France! For 2019 it is July 28th and again in Beaumont, Alberta. Ken Nichols Recreation Centre is our Start/Stop location.
Where can I park? In and ideal world everyone would ride to the tour and truly celebrate cycling, BUT we understand this is not an option for everyone (Albert?) Parking is available on the west side of Ken Nichols across the street in the empty retail space. PLEASE be extremely careful crossing 50th Street! Parking can also be found in the neighborhood around the Ken Nichols Rec Centre, but please be courteous to the residents and do not block driveways. We are invading their neighborhood!
Is the TDA a Charity Ride? The TDA began as a fun group ride to celebrate all things cycling and soon developed into an EBTC fundraising event. When Revolution Cycle assumed the event, the goal was to be NON-PROFIT. Volunteer societies and charity groups receive honorariums for services provided. Without these wonderful volunteers the TDA could not continue to be the best one-day ride in Alberta. If you are a member of a group that would be interested in volunteering please fill out our contact form. https://www.tourdalberta.ca/#contact

F.A.Q. What do I get for my registration? You get the best game-day experience when it comes to one-day bike tours in Alberta! The TDA is a fun day with friends at one of the most historic and biggest bike rides in Alberta. At the TDA we strive to provide entertainment, culturally appropriate foods, a well-managed event, and great value for your entry fee. You also get: ● Meal catered by A1 Catering ● Mechanics at Start/Finish, every rest stop and en route vehicles ● Fully decked out rest stops with music, food and hydration ● Sag vehicles ● Door prizes (A chance to win a bicycle, wheels, helmets and other cool cycling gear) ● Limited edition clothing at discount prices ● Live entertainment ● Onsite photographers
What are the distances? They have changed over the years, but we strive for a family ride, a half century, a full century and a metric century. In 2019 we have a 50 km, 100 km, and 160 km. You can change which distance you are participating in up to the day before the event. Just tell us at package pickup.
Why this Road/Route? We strive to find the most scenic, safe, and fun routes as possible. A team of experienced ride leaders sit down over the winter to find the best routes. We will not please everyone all the time. We try to find roads that do not need RCMP involvement to close as we are not racing against the clock and have time to follow the rules of the road.
Can I ride a tandem recumbent mountain bike tricycle? You can ride whatever bike you want minus an E-motorbike. For health reasons we will allow pedelecs but they must be accompanied by some form of health documentation. As the ride is designed to grow cycling we want to encourage riders of all levels and styles. The route is designed for a road bike. 14
