For reasons unknown, they never did, perhaps because of activity in the street or other flats. Detectives have also considered the possibility that he was placed in the bag to minimise the risk of odours being detected by residents.

We also voiced comment that persons unknown were mischief making and trying to discredit Mr Williams. Those sources used by two newspapers in particular, almost certainly came from someone who claimed the officer was a frequent visitor to a venue popular with gays called Bar Code in Vauxhall.

CCTV showing Mr Williams walking on Hans Crescent near Harrods on 15 August. This is the last reported sighting of the intelligence worker key was found inside the bag remains unconfirmed. Forensic specialists have been unable to conclude if the victim died in the bag or was already dead before being placed inside it.

Mr Williams had worked in intelligence for about a decade, rising through the ranks to become an experienced codes analyst. Indeed, several units of personnel at GCHQ have an on-going liaison with MI6 in lots of intelligence collection efforts - predominantly electronic and of an overseas nature. According to Eye Spy sources, Mr Williams was working with personnel on a top secret UK-based programme relevant to cell phone technologies, cyber terrorism and security of computerised systems.
