REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCES OF EYP CZ
VISION OF THE PRESIDENT OF PCE16
Dear all, Every EYP session means new beginnings to someone or something. This time, it is a beginning of a new era for EYP Czech Republic. I am extremely honoured to preside Pardubice 2016, which is the first Regional Selection Conference EYP Czech Republic has ever organised. We will be tackling issues under the broad theme: “The power of knowledge”. I am aiming to have diverse topics, which would establish interesting discussions in the committees. We are not only attempting to focus on the academic side, but also pursuing to the experience side for the delegates. We want to have a session filled with motivated young people, who want to continue going to EYP events in one way or another! Not only has EYP been a forum to pursue people to voice their own opinions, but it has been also a framework for learning and a place to have a chance to overcome yourself. I am determined to have Pardubice 2016 as a learning point for every participant, so I hope you will join me in November to make this a new beginning for everyone and to have a blast and a memorable time. We are in this together! All the best, Tim
Dear all, Did you know that the tradition of Gingerbread in Pardubice dates back to the 16th century? If this fact has caught your attention, don‘t stop reading now. There are more facts to come. This remarkable city will host the first Regional Selectional Conference in the history of EYP Czech Republic! We are looking for enthusiastic and devoted Officials to join our session. This will be a big first time especially for the delegates, so we want to give them a chance to join EYP and show them the proper EYP spirit. Our session will be held under the motto “The power of knowledge”. Knowledge represents the academic quality of the session, sharing experience with others and seeing things from a broader perspective, whilst power represents force and determination. We want to give all the participants an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and reach out for something challenging, whilst having fun at the same time. Our aim is to provide everyone with a soft bed, tasty food and good company. If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, hesitate no more, fill in this application form and join us in Gingerbread town! With love, Michaela and Tereza
VISION OF THE HOS OF PCE16
Dear all, I am very happy that I am finally allowed to say this out loud: I have the honour of presiding Hradec Králové 2016, the second Regional Selection Conference in the history of EYP Czech Republic!
VISION OF THE PRESIDENT OF HK16
The theme for this session will be “Challenging the concept of culture”. Given that my knowledge of Czech culture is based mainly around Smetana, Kafka, David Černý, Karlovy Lázně and Pat & Mat, I feel like this will be a great learning experience for me as much as for everyone. For that is the point of EYP: to learn and to keep learning as much as you can, regardless of whether it is your first session or if you are sitting at the Board table. Be warned: at this session I will use all my enthusiasm and energy to create the most valuable experience for every participant. If that sounds good to you, if you would like to find your own limits and challenge them, and if you want to help me make this event legendary, then I hope to see you in December in Hradec Králové! Yours truly, Samuël
Dear you, Potential Applicant, If you are reading this, it means you are considering to apply as an Official to Hradec. It also means that it is now up to us, the HOs, to tell you why exactly you should do so. For EYP Czech Republic, this is the first time we organise Regionals. Therefore, this session is going to make history. And who doesn’t want to chair historic in the Czech Republic? But that is not all. The session will also set the bar for all other RSCs to come. And we are planning to set it really high. And we can only do that if you help us – by applying, by sharing the call, by being the best you can be and by believing in yourself and the session. The motto we chose, “Challenging the concept of culture”, is not only about Hradec being the cultural city it is, mostly known for its festivals. It is not about our personal interests. It is mostly about that piece of culture you might bright to the session and share with us and others – the piece of culture that is unique to you. In exchange, we can offer new experience and learning opportunities. Good food. Stunning venues. Christmas spirit. And a promise that if you apply and do your best, this session will be an example to be held up for future generations of EYP CZ and it will be partly thanks to you. So apply because it’s gonna be totally awesome. Yours, Pavel and Jana
VISION OF THE HOS OF HK16
who are we looking for? CHAIRPERSONS
VICE-PRESIDENTS
We are looking to create two teams of motivated, enthusiastic Chairpersons regardless of their experience levels. Whether it is your first time as a chair, or your tenth, at these sessions we will make sure that you find an appropriate challenge which allows you to grow and improve some aspect of your chairing. This requires you to be willing to look into the mirror, to critically analyse your own strengths and weaknesses and to be actually willing to use these to maximise your own personal potential.
For Vice-Presidents a familiarity with the work of the Board is preferred, but definitely not required. Since the President will try to keep an overview of the session as a whole, that means that the Vice-Presidents will play a very big role in facilitating the personal development of the Chairpersons. This means that they must be observant, with an eye for detail. Furthermore, they must both be willing and have the ability to give extensive feedback to chairs, before, during and after the session, in order to support them to take everything this conference has to offer them.
Getting everything out of a session does not just happen at the session itself. Chairpersons are expected to properly prepare themselves and their committee in the months before the session. Not only to increase the value of the session for themselves, but it also significantly improves the experience of their delegates. The Board of each session will provide personal guidance at every stage throughout the academic process: before, during and after the session. It is said that a man with purpose is three times as effective. At these sessions we therefore expect from Chairs that they think about the “why” in their vision. Not just in regards to oneself, but also in terms of the impact we have on others, the Chairs’ team, the Delegates and the session as a whole. We hope to create a diverse team of Chairpersons with different ideals but the same passion. If you feel like these things describe you, then do not hesitate for another second and apply as Chairperson for Pardubice 2016 or Hradec Králové 2016!
Furthermore, Vice-Presidents are expected to be aware of and open to a wide variety of different chairing styles, their benefits and their weaknesses. Since the Board will support every Chairperson in either finding their comfort zone or stretching it when in front of the committee, Vice-Presidents are expected to tailor their advice to the needs, wishes and vision of the Chairperson they are helping rather than imposing their own doctrines on them. Finally, these sessions should be a learning experience for all participants, and this includes the Presidents. Therefore, the Members of the Board will provide feedback to each other in addition to the Chairs. This means that they are challenged to be critical of and supportive towards their colleagues, as well as to use the session as an opportunity for their own personal development. If you are up for these challenges and motivated to join the leadership team of the sessions, we strongly encourage you to apply as a Vice-President for Pardubice 2016 or Hradec Králové 2016!
24/11 – 27/11 2016 for Officials
EDITORS It seems that at every session the first challenge for the Media Team is to show their own value to the session. A good Media Team can be a great contribution to the session in a wide variety of ways, and this starts with the vision of the Editors. Although we leave creative freedom to applicants regarding the way they see the role of their team, we wish that the Editors would make a contribution to the academic quality of their session, as well as incorporate the theme of the session they apply to in some sort of way. The Presidents and Head Organisers share a vision of creating a single Officials’ Team at their respective sessions, rather than having independently working Chairs’-, Media, Jury and Organising Teams. The Editors are expected to play a role in actively making the journalists part of the Officials’ Team rather than a separate entity at the session. Finally, we expect that Editors find a way to contribute to the personal development of their journalists, both in the context of EYP media and media outside the organisation as well as regarding their personal development in general. If your vision of EYP Media fits within this framework, then please do apply as an Editor or Editorial pair for Pardubice 2016 or Hradec Králové 2016! Editors who wish to edit together are requested to submit individual applications, but are asked to provide a joint vision.

PARDUBICE
CW venue
Pardubice is a remarkable city situated in the northern part of the Czech Republic with 90,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the Pardubice Region and lies on the confluence of two rivers, the Elbe and the Chrudimka, 95 kilometres east from Prague. Pardubice is a city with rich historical background and eventful present times. The oldest preserved reference to the city dates back to the 13th century. The first great aristocratic family were the Lords of PernĹĄtejn, after which the famous beer PernĹĄtejn was named. Due to its legacy, Pardubice has a historical centre and a chateau with a park, which are still widely admired today. Every year, various cultural and social events take place there, such as Pardubice Music Spring, Festival of Laughter, City Festivities or Aviation Fair at the Pardubice Airport. The city is well known for sports events, like the speedway competition Golden Helmet of Pardubice or the Great Pardubice Steeplechase Run (which has been taking place annually ever since 1874).

HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ
HK16 will be taking place in the historical city of Hradec Králové, or Königgrätz as it is known in German-speaking countries. The city has a rich history, which goes all the way back to times before first historical records were even made. From archaeological finds it is clear that it was a trading centre, which makes it a place where different cultures would meet and exchange goods and ideas. Centuries later, the city became one of the most important cities in the entire country before falling again after the Hussite Revolutions. In the centuries to come the city suffered greatly and only bounced back in the latter half of the 19th century. It started to thrive once again and became the place where the world-renowned piano-making business Antonín Petrof originated. Nowadays, the city is very culturally enriched, hosting the biggest theatre festival in central Europe (Open Air festival), as well as being a home for several universities.
