EUROPEAN YOUTH PARLIAMENT
Head Trainer Vision Media Academy 2021
European Youth Parliament
1
The Media Academy will be a training event that focuses on educating and supporting active members from all over the network in the area of media and communication. The aim is to actively enable personal development during the event as well as encourage knowledge sharing within National Committees and outside of the organisation. The training programme is divided into three separate streams based on the initial experience of the Trainee, thus making sure that the Media Academy is open to any EYPer. During the event, individual streams will work on creating guideline materials on media and communication that will later be shared with the network. Thus, the event will provide learning opportunities for individual members and National Committees long after its end. The trainings on the different areas will be put together by the Head Trainer with a team of 5–8 Trainers (however, the team structure is up to the Head Trainer and the number of Trainers is flexible depending on the number of participants), who have previous experience in EYP training events and experience in the field of (EYP) media. The main topics for the training include project development and management or strategic communication and media technologies. In addition, we are hoping to include external partners and trainers to share their expertise in order to grow our organisational knowledge as well as our personal knowledge. The Media Academy is the first event of its kind both with its format and the focus on non-EYP media as well. We believe that the training will be a fantastic opportunity for all motivated young people in our organisation to take a step outside of their comfort zone and will inspire innovation in events all over the network. The event will take place online from 13th to 21st of August 2021.
THE HEAD ORGANISERS We are Sophie Serebryanaya (19) and Oisín Lucey-Tomiczek (17), the most unpronounceable HO duo of all time! We met at the Czech Regional Session in Ostrava in 2018. Later we met at the Regional Session in Linz as well as at the Czech Digital National Session in 2020.

Sophie My EYP journey began in 2017, since then I have tried out different positions both at sessions and in the National Committee. My goal within the EYP is to provide others with opportunities that I had and bring something new to the network, hence this new type of event. Currently I am also preparing for my university entrance exams.
Oisín I attended my very first EYP session in 2018. Over the few years I have been active I have always enjoyed working with new people to create new memories, new opportunities and gaining experience with things I have never done before. That is why I cannot wait for this event to be a learning experience for all of us together. I would like to study international relations in the future, which is another reason EYP has had such a big impact on my life.
OUR VISION Our vision for this event is to create a diverse and comfortable learning environment, where participants will be encouraged to further share what they learned within their National Committees and but also, most importantly, use their new skills outside of EYP. Since the Officials’ Team at this event is smaller than most, we would like the teams to work closer together. With this being a summer event whose participants have prior EYP experience, we would like it to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, thus being not only a learning opportunity but also a fun time spent with like-minded motivated young people. Since the event is targeted at members with different levels of experience, we plan the training to be separated into three different streams, each focused on different topics, from more basic ones like Fundamentals of Media and Communication, Project Development and Management, to more advanced and nuanced subjects, such as Organisational Communication, and Strategic Communication and Media Technologies. The event does not solely focus on EYP media and encourages the participants to learn to work with all kinds of media, making the training a great option for someone who is considering using their EYP experience in other areas of their life. The programme consists of two days packed with workshops during the weekend and a relatively relaxed schedule over weekdays. During this time, the Trainees will create group projects under their Trainer’s guidance to use their newly obtained knowledge in practice and gain the skills necessary to implement it in their professional life. By the end of the event, every training stream will have produced at least two projects which will be presented to the rest of the participants on the day of the Closing Ceremony. The Trainers’ Team should also compile a document containing the materials used during the event’s workshops, as well as a short summary (such as a guide or checklist) of the Trainees’ creative process involved with their project. These documents will later be provided to the whole network after the event to encourage learning for all EYP members regardless of their presence at the Media Academy, and serve as inspiration for similar events or media projects in the future.

The Media Academy is the first event focused solely on growing the participants’ knowledge of media outside the EYP environment and further into their careers or any personal projects. The Media Academy is being organised in close cooperation with the International Office and the Governing Body, and as Head Trainer, you will have a crucial role in forming the vision.
CURRENT STAGE OF PREPARATION Currently we are in the process of fundraising and planning the digital aspect of the event, such as setting up the platforms needed and finalising the more relaxed part of the programme. Our next goals include the selection of an Organising Team and start working with the Head Trainer on the academic part of the event.
