CALL FOR MEDIA TEAM MEMBERS The 85th International Session of the EYP will be held in Brno, Czech Republic between 19th and 30th July 2017, under the session theme ‘Seeking the heart of Europe’. The Media Team will be led by Ms Giada Benfatto (FR) and Mr Matthijs Quaijtaal (EE). You can read about their vision below. The event will be presided by Mr Vivek Gathani (UK) and head-organised by Ms Michaela Novotná (CZ) and Mr Michal Koláček (CZ). For more information on the session, please, visit the event’s official website1 and Facebook page. WE ARE LOOKING FOR 15 JOURNALISTS AND 2 EDITORIAL ASSISTANTS. All members of the Officials Team will be required to arrive in Brno by Wednesday, 19th July in order to attend the training. Departures will be on Sunday, 30th of July. Additionally, please note that in preparation for the session all members of the Officials Team will be required to attend the academic training – CAT/MAT/OAT – that will take place in the Czech Republic from 5th to 7th May 2017. Attendance at this event is an integral part of an officials responsibilities. Expenses of the training will be covered by the International Office of the EYP and the National Organising Committee.
VISION FROM THE EDITORS In our media team we want to promote active citizenship by stimulating critical consumption of media, or in more catchy terms, “Beating Fake News”. Trust in media is at a low at the moment, as illustrated by the White House banning media outlets, such as BBC, CNN, and the New York Times, allowing for alternative sources to spread unmoderated, unfounded, or questionable stories. Our aim is to spark reflection and discussion about the delegates’ current media consumption habits, in particular whether they engage with the media in a critical and thoughtful manner. We want to produce media that has a connection to the session, in order to be relevant to the participants, producing a variety of output. We are looking for journalists who are academically strong, with a strong understanding on the functioning of the EU as well as current European affairs. We want people who understand the function of journalism as a tool to stimulate critical thinking and engage people within and outside of EYP. They should be willing to become experts in specific fields and willing to delve and analyze topics related to the current State of the Union and global politics. At the same time, they should have the creativity and skills required to communicate their analysis in an understandable and entertaining way. Overall, we want people who understand that good writing, photography and videos are tools to communicate stories, ideas and knowledge, and not goals in itself. For this, we need task-based workers with a strong sense of responsibility, who are capable of working independently on their own projects and are able to find creative ways to get their message across, without being afraid to approach things in a new way.

It may be possible that the website is unavailable at times – please be patient and try at a later time if this happens.
When it comes to Editorial Assistants, we are looking for a video editor with a good understanding of how video can be used to tell stories. We do not want to limit our output to simply telling the story of the session – the videos should add to the session theme: “Seeking the Heart of Europe”, which reflects three key aspects that will be promoted throughout the event – active citizenship in everyday life, common European goals and values and discovering beautiful nature and culture of Brno, the Czech Republic and Central Europe. Emphasis will be put especially on active citizenship and parts of the programme will be tailored to support this idea. This storytelling already starts prior to the session. Furthermore, we are looking for a second Editorial Assistant with a more all-round skillset who can assist us before and throughout the session. Having experience with programs like Adobe Illustrator and InDesign are a definite asset, but are by no means essential skills. As with all members of the team, they are required to familiarize themselves with the session topic in order to assist the team where needed. Finally, it is worth mentioning that we expect all MTMs to be able to dedicate an average of 2 hours of their time per week until the session begins.
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE MEADIA TEAM According to EYP policy, the Selection Panel is looking for individuals with the following qualities: i. Excellent English language skills; ii. A sense of responsibility, expressed motivation and commitment to further the media team’s objectives (EYP experience desirable); iii. Ability to work as a member of a team and with individuals from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds; iv. Photography and video skills (technical media production skills desirable); v. Good writing and researching skills (interest in European issues desirable); vi. Creativity in all aspects of the pressroom. The team will present a cohesive and suitable balance of nationality, gender and levels of experience. The Selection Panel will first consider the individuals who have submitted an Application form on the EYP Member platform. The panel will thoroughly read and discuss all the applications by following the guidelines given by the Governing Body. Applicants should be aware that the failure to be selected is no reflection on their talent or ability to be part of an International Session Chairs’ team or Media team. The Selection Panel for the Media Team of Brno 2017 will consist of the Session Editors Ms Giada Benfatto (FR) and Mr Matthijs Quaijtaal (EE), past session Editors Ms Karin-Liis Lahtmäe (EE) and Mr Waltter Roslin (FI), a member of the Governing Body Ms Isabel Cantalapiedra (ES) and the representative of the NOC Ms Michaela Novotná (CZ). According to the Policy on the Selection of International Session Officials the applicant needs to have at least one official EYP evaluation to be eligible for selection.
