REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2018 LITOMĚŘICE
WORDS OF WELCOME SESSION PRESIDENT Dear Teachers of Litoměřice 2018, I dare say that for Czech EYP events the purpose of any “words of welcome” is pure formality. It struck me when I first experienced Czech hospitality in 2013, and the feeling got only fortified throughout the years, as I had pleasure to be a part of so many events held in this wonderful country – nothing that I could possibly write here will welcome you more than pure dedication, sincere warmth, and amazing atmosphere produced by the members of Organising team and representatives of EYP Czech Republic. I strongly believe that Litoměřice will not make an exception from that rule, and we will all enjoy the spoils of Czechs welcoming us in a few short weeks. With the session motto – „Overcoming hardship as one – finding strength in unity” – in heart, our activities in Litoměřice will revolve around a simple question: how can we make the best out of that globalised, integrated Europe we live in. While the committees will discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by our reality, the Media Team will strive to enrich our experience by employing the theme in engaging projects. More importantly, if you ask me, the motto will manifest itself not through the committee topics or media products, but by something very essential to the idea of EYP – the fact that once again, in one more place in Europe, young people from a variety of ethnic and national backgrounds will come together to jointly take on that statement; exactly something that makes us so different than any other educational programme out there. With that said, I can only add that I am tremendously excited to meet you in Litoměřice, and I hope that it is going to be a fantastic experience for all of us. Best wishes, Maciej Kuczyński

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2018 LITOMĚŘICE
PRESIDENT OF EYP CZECH REPUBLIC Dear teachers, It is my honor to welcome you to this year Regional Selection Conferences of the European Youth Parliament in the Czech Republic. These conferences are happening in two interesting cities within the Czech Republic and I promise both of them will have a great success. This year’s recipe is similar to others, when Head Organizers and Organizing teams are ensuring the smooth course of the session, Presidents and their teams contribute with their academic knowledge, and the final taste are bringing Editors and Media Team Members with their media output. However, there is always a difference. Each conference has its unique atmosphere, as the composition of the people is always different. This means that each time, all of the participants are facing different challenges and are learning something completely new. I truly hope this year’s conferences will bring to all of the participants lots of learning, new set of skills and infinite amounts of fun. By these words, I would like to thank you on behalf of the Board of the European Youth Parliament in the Czech Republic for all your help and commitment. We regard you as an inseparable part of our organization and appreciate all your time, effort and feedback you provide us with. Hopefully, we will have time to see each other in person during our conferences! I wish you to enjoy your time at the conference! Best regards, Olga Pexídrová

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2018 LITOMĚŘICE
HEAD ORGANISERS Dearest teachers, On behalf of the whole Organising Team, let us offer you our warmest welcome to the Regional Selection Conference of EYP Czech Republic Litoměřice 2018! We are delighted that you chose Litoměřice as the next step for your students in the world of EYP and hope that you will enjoy the session together with them as much as possible! We have put a lot of effort into preparations of the session so that you and your students have the best experience possible. You might be asking “Why did we choose Litoměřice?” as the host city for our session. The answer is very simple. There has never been a session of EYP Czech Republic in the Ústí nad Labem region and we wanted to spread the word about our organisation in this part of the Czech Republic too. The second biggest reason for this decision was the beauty of the town, which is also amplified by its moniker “the Garden of Bohemia”. We are looking forward to meeting you all during the conference and hope that your interest in EYP will only grow and encourage you to participate in the future again. Best wishes, Matěj Hrnjica & Sam Týče

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2018 LITOMĚŘICE
HEAD OF JURY Dear teachers, It is my pleasure to address you ahead of the Regional Selection Conferences in Litoměřice and Ostrava. Both me personally, as well as the entire team behind the sessions are very grateful that you support your students ahead, during and after the session. Without your contribution our work would be significantly more difficult and your students would face more obstacles in preparation for the session. Together with my team of Jury Members we have been tasked with a difficult job to select students that will take part in the National Selection Conference in spring 2019. I can pledge that we will do our best to judge your students fairly and justly, while making sure that their participation is valuable to their personal growth and academic development regardless of the outcome of the selection. Of course we would be more than happy to get in touch with you and explain how and why we made our decision. While we assess the participants we will look into several different criteria. Among those are participation, teamwork, the ability to form and present their opinion as well as to listen to others and develop their thoughts in the debate. As our work during the session will be conducted in English, we want to see the participants use English. However, I want to assure you that we are not looking for proficient English speakers and what really counts is to see that the participants really try and give their best. After all, our work as an organisation is mainly about getting better. I am sure that is a goal we all share. We in the European Youth Parliament are dependent on each other if we want to provide the best possible experience to all our participants. And we count you as part of our wider team, because we all share our passion and commitment. Please continue helping us in this goal and let us know how we can help you. I am looking forward to meet you all in person either in Litoměřice or Ostrava. Yours,

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2018 LITOMĚŘICE
LITOMĚŘICE – THE GARDEN OF BOHEMIA Overlooking the confluence of Labe and Ohře rivers in northern Bohemia, Litoměřice is one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic, having acquired the royal-town statute in the 13th century. An important port and trading post in medieval ages its population was a mix of German, Czech and Jewish people united in one city, which deeply ties to our session’s topic. Litoměřice was a place of lot of conflicts in the 20th century due to its geographical location and population mixed of Czechs and Germans. These conflicts marked the town for a long time. Our aim with the session is, as the session motto suggests, to embrace the unity inside and outside of the town and everywhere else Thanks to its warm climate Litoměřice was a favourite of 19th century pensioners but today is known mainly as the ‘Garden of Bohemia’, supplying the land with great wine and tasty fruits. The city also hosts an annual wine festival which celebrates the region’s culture and traditions. The town’s centre offers a charming mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque sights, including a high school founded in 1660, and a Gothic castle, which we will visit during the session. Litoměřice is also important to Czech literature, as the famous poet Karel Hynek Mácha lived and died here. Furthermore, the first Czech language lesson in history was held there.

Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety I (ENVI I) The Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2020 emphasises mental health developmental aspects for the youth, for instance, having a positive sense of identity, the ability to manage thoughts and emotions, as well as to build social relationships. How could the EU ensure its educational institutions provide the tools, the setting and the support required to reach the goals of the Mental Health Action Plan? Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety II (ENVI II) Cannabis: from dope to hope. Committee on Security and Defence I (SEDE I) With severe wildfires and natural catastrophes becoming more frequent across Europe, international cooperation in tackling them is more important than ever. Committee on Security and Defence II (SEDE II) Across the Mediterranean: with the death toll of illegal attempts to cross the Mediterranean Sea with the purpose of immigrating to EU countries outrageously high, what measures can the EU take to prevent the loss of lives while maintaining security of its borders?

ROLE OF A TEACHER AT THE SESSION Teachers are a crucial part of every Selection Conference. Not only do they support their students at the session, they also help to create the unique atmosphere of the event. Therefore, we prepared a few tips and trick on how you can help your students. HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR STUDENTS WITH PREPARATION? Motivate them Let them know what the purpose of the session is and what can they learn from this experience. To learn something new, to meet new people, to practise English, to be able to talk to international participants, to have the opportunity to be selected for a conference abroad; all these are reasons they should be motivated. Explain to them how to prepare for Committee Work All the necessary information can be found in the Preparation Kit; tell them they should go through it and try to explain to them that they should be able to understand the problem of their topic and should think about possible solutions. Talk to them during the session Your students will be full of exciting experience during the session and they will most probably want to share it with someone. Give them credit in front of others The best reward for attending the conference is the credit your students get in front of other schoolmates; therefore, publish their participation at the conference on your school’s website, broadcast it in the school radio, or compliment them during a school lesson. For you it might be a small gesture; but they will be very proud of themselves.

Explain the dress code to them Mainly first-time Delegates often underestimate the importance of dress code; therefore, please explain to them what smart clothes look like and what they should pack for formal parts of the session. Taking photos We are aware that you want to have pictures of your students “in action”. You are free to take pictures of any kind of events with the exception of Committee Work, where you might disturb the work process by photographing. The Media Team, consisting of 8 people with high-quality cameras and photographing skills, will take care of pictures from all the events. The pictures will be put into one online folder and you will be given access to that folder and to the pictures of your students.
