Trainees Vision Media Academy 2021

Of all the elements in EYP, media is perhaps the largest, ever-changing variable over the years. As global media systems and structures evolve, so do our interactions with everyday media, which is inevitably reflected in our engagement with the EYP Network. With increasing mediatisation on a global scale, we have gone from printed newspapers to augmented reality over the past 30+ years of EYP. But how do we keep up? How do we learn from the past to lead the future? What even is 'EYP media'? To answer these questions and to form sustainable internal structures that support our national communication networks as well as volunteers through our events, we would like to invite you to take part in the Media Academy! This innovative format will cater to the needs of NC communication officers just as well as active members engaging in media teams. With an extensive team of Trainers, we are aiming to engage our participants in a week-long journey of everything-EYP media! As a project that has been in the making for well over four years, I am honoured to be taking on the role of Head Trainer in order to help shape the vision for an event that will hopefully remain in our network for years to come. I hope you, YES YOU, will JOIN US for this incredible event! Much love from Prague,

The Training Most of the Media Academy is a 9-day long event. The weekend will consist of a full-time programme, filled with modules, workshops, and expert talks. During the week (Monday to Thursday), trainees will get a chance to opt-in to workshops, panels, and other training in the evenings, and continue engaging with the event within their own schedules.
Vision Our vision is to bring together an event in which trainees can get innovative, advanced, and unique modules from experienced EYPers and shape the next generation of EYPers in communication and media. The three different tracks will sometimes have shared modules altogether, while sometimes going their own ways for more specialised content. The entire schedule of the event will be shaped with the Organisers and trainers in order to deliver a comprehensive and wholesome experience to all participants.
Experts We are looking to involve a number of experts and industry professionals in the Media Academy through a number of workshops. Through the involvement of these experts, we are looking to not only gain professional input into communication and media within EYP but also potentially receive feedback on our work.
Media Academy Tracks The Media Academy aims to provide training for a large variety of audiences related to communication and EYP. For this, we have identified three key tracks which you can choose between when applying. These three tracks do not limit you to certain modules but instead set a course for your journey in this event. The three tracks will converge for certain training while focusing on specialised modules as well. The aim of these tracks will be to provide relevant training depending on what you are looking to get out of this event and to connect you with the right trainers, experts, and workshops that we can offer.
#1 - EYP Media Rather than the ‘fundamentals’ of being a media team member at an EYP event this track will aim to focus on developing participants’ practical as well as theoretical knowledge in media and communication. This will then be connected with EYP media in practice, while aiming to give a holistic look at how our media team practices align with global media practices. Editors Nearly every EYP event holds training for media team members during CMO training, but have you ever had a module on being an Editor? Most, if not all Editors in EYP gain experience through being MTMs and Editorial Assistants, but rarely, if ever, get overt training on how to be an Editor.

This will be one of the main focus points of this track. We aim to support future EYP Editors and transfer experience as well as generational knowledge in order to further drive EYP media forward. For this, we are looking for people with relative EYP media experience who are aspiring Editors. Output The EYP Media track will get a chance to contribute to the EYP Editor’s Toolkit and Media Team toolkit through their work in the event.
#2 - NC Communication/PR Events such as the Summer Academy aim to provide NC Board Members with the necessary tools to carry out their work on a national and international level. Whereas PR and communication are often mentioned within workshops or modules, we would like to take this to the next level and dedicate a whole track of training to NC Board Members working on communication and public relations. NC Board Members This track will focus on:
•
Equipping trainees with PR skills
•
Providing training on communication of NC events
•
Giving a theoretical framework for internal communication
Our goal will be to provide trainees with the right tools to prepare communication strategies for their NCs and execute these strategies through various platforms, taking into account the EYP international communication strategy and style guide as well as media relations in their countries. This track will coincide with the next track (Event Communication/PR) on a number of modules, workshops, and expert talks, but will then focus on practicing making communication strategies for their own NCs as well as getting input/feedback on these. We would like to encourage NC Board Members of the entire EYP Network to consider applying for this track, however, do not make it exclusive to only board members of NCs. Output The NC Communication track will get a chance to create communication strategies for their respective NCs, as well as developing communication templates and databases for all NCs in the network to utilise in the future.
#3 - Event Communication/PR Another aspect of EYP communication we would like to focus on supporting are the organisers of events who are internally and externally communicating an event with the rest of EYP and the world. It is difficult enough to communicate EYP itself to external audiences, let alone the nuances of specific events! We would like to work on this together. Through this track, our aim is to empower these individuals and equip them with the tools to communicate their event to the rest of EYP as well as to the rest of the world; local media organisations as well as sponsors, partners, and stakeholders. For this track, we highly encourage Organisers and Head Organisers of ISes, IFs, and other EYP events to apply. However, currently being an Organiser or HO at an event is not a prerequisite. IS Organisers An International Session has many aspects to it. From the organising side, it lasts well over a year and involves dozens of partners, sponsors, and other stakeholders. Meeting their communication needs while also communicating the session to the rest of the network as well as locally in your country are all crucial to maximising its impact. This track will therefore focus on ensuring that organisers of high-scale EYP events have the tools and knowledge necessary to thoroughly communicate their events while also cooperating with stakeholders and media organisations. Output The Event Communication track will get a chance to create templates and guidelines for future EYP events to utilise in their external communication.
Academy Participants Trainees We would like the Media Academy to be an inclusive event for the entire EYP Network, so applications to Media Academy will be open to all EYPers! The training will bring together people from all across #YoungEurope through its three different tracks. Our goal is to train the next generation of EYP media, hoping to engage EYPers of all interests from NC management to Media Teams and Organisers of EYP events. Overall, the training will aim to equip trainees with intermediate-to-advanced skills in their respective tracks. Trainees will ideally already have some background knowledge, or, alternatively, a strong motivation for the tracks they are applying for and will be ready to take their skills to the next level through this event.
Event Programme Most training modules are planned for the first weekend of the event, with the schedule being more relaxed on weekdays to allow the participants to work independently in accordance with their personal availability. In the meantime, the Head Trainer and Trainers’ Team will work on putting together materials based on the training they led during the first weekend that can later be shared with the entire network on the last day of the event. These materials can serve as inspiration for similar training events in the future and those involved with media both inside and outside EYP.
