WORDS OF WELCOME PRESIDENT OF THE SESSION Dear Delegates, Congratulations for making it to the Welcome Words part of this booklet, a set of pages that introduces you to the great adventure that will be the 21st National Selection Conference of EYP CZ. This is not the first encounter with EYP for most of you, but if it is, welcome and buckle in for the ride. Whether you know (or think you know) what to expect, or not, I can almost guarantee that there will be at least one moment during the session that will catch you off-guard. Such is the nature of EYP and, frankly, albeit often to much lesser degree pleasantly, life. But the fact that you decided to read this particular section, which most people (including my younger delegate self) often skip, denotes you as someone who is either bored, excited, or always striving to be prepared; and for that I commend you. There is much to be said about EYP and its impact and goals and hopes. But I shall spare you the details about these, for you will hear about them enough during ceremonial speeches by all the Session’s Teamleaders – and more importantly, I hope – you will get to experience them for yourself during your time there. So for now, prepare the best you can (or not at all, although that is not encouraged for obvious reasons), skim through this booklet, then read it, then look at the pictures. Get excited about the next few weeks. Go to our Facebook page and like them posts. When you get your hands on it, read the Academic Preparation Kit. Not just your committee – read it all. Who can stop you? I am very much looking forward to meeting all of you in a couple of weeks, and I am positively thrilled in anticipation of the time we will all share and shape. Until then yours faithfully, Anna

PRESIDENT OF EYP CZ Dear Delegates, On behalf of the European Youth Parliament Czech Republic, it is my great pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the National Selection Conference in Pilsen. For the Czech National Committee, this session represents another opportunity to welcome students from different Czech high schools to their new EYP adventure. This time, you are lucky to be one of them and I truly hope you will enjoy this ride with us! EYP brings you many opportunities to learn things that are not taught in schools. Besides the information about current happenings that concern Europe, you can also meet great people and enlarge your set of soft skills. For this reason, use your time at the conference wisely and get out of it as much as you can! And finally, as I love to say: whatever you do, make sure you have fun! See you soon! Olga

HEAD ORGANISER OF THE SESSION Dear Delegates, It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you to the 21st National Selection Conference Plzeň 2019! Most of you have already had an encounter or two with EYP, be it at one of our Regional Selection Conferences or elsewhere. The concept that we employ in EYP should thus be no surprise to you. Though with every EYP session comes a unique opportunity to take a different look at the world and yourself. I encourage you to become immersed in the topic you will be discussing, talk to as many people from the session as possible, and learn something new about yourself in the process. It is only when we challenge ourselves and our own views that we can truly move forward. Our motto says : “Progress on the Backdrop of History.” It is important to realise how much progress we have made during such a short amount of time. Plzeň is a city with far-reaching history and we can see it throughout the whole city. At this session, it is important to remember, that any resolution you create, any opinion you state, can be huge progress for the future. So try to be as open-minded and approachable as possible. We have been working hard on this session with the Organising Team for the past months. Our goal is to create an unforgettable session which each participant will look back to. We could not do it without you. Make the most of the four days. Talk, smile, laugh, just enjoy and have fun! See you soon in Plzeň. Love, Valentina

EDITOR OF THE SESSION Dear participants of Plzeň 2019,

I am profoundly excited to be chosen to be the Editor of the 21st National Selection Conference of EYP Czech Republic. The Czech Republic has become my favourite place to be abroad, I always feel like as it would be my second home as it reminds me so much of my home country, so similar yet so different, and as for someone studying audiovisual art, this country intrigues me with rich culture, street artists and some of the most iconic film locations. I am a strong believer that the best motivation is found in characters around you that you usually miss, in our busy and overwhelmingly filled lives and our small information bubbles, because only by observing everyone around you can find the greatest stories. An unexpected conversation between someone on public transport could lead to the birth of the greatest stories. My plan for the sessions’ Media Team will be quite similar, observing and looking for these stories worth telling. Creativity and ideas should never be restricted, but rather shaped and improved by sharing knowledge with others, giving it meaning beyond the superficial exterior. Thank you ALL for being here! This is definitely going to be a spectacular journey for everyone involved. See you soon, Ričards

HEAD OF JURY Dear Delegates, Let me congratulate you for being selected to join the National Selection Conference. You are about to make another step on your EYP journey. The task of all the teams here is to seek and develop your potential. I wish you will have amazing and gain an unforgettable experience. Enjoy the session to the fullest. I am genuinely looking forward to meeting you at other

events organized by EYP CZ. Matěj

ABOUT PLZEŇ The royal city of Pilsen was founded in 1295 by King Wenceslas II at the confluence of four rivers: the Radbuza, Mže, Úhlava and Úslava. The Pilsen of today is almost 140 km2 in area and has a population exceeding 168,000 people.
