OFFICIALS’ WELCOME BOOKLET 8th Regional Selection Conference of EYP Czech Republic Uherské Hradiště 2019

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ

WORDS OF WELCOME SESSION PRESIDENT Dear Officials, It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you this November in Uherské Hradiště, for one of the two Regional Selection Conferences of EYP Czech Republic. With the help of the Leadership, we hope to create an environment where all individuals can further develop and feel free to do so. Inspired by the history of Uherské Hradiště when the city was a stronghold at the border, the motto of the session “Tearing down the walls of obliviousness, exploring the new”, emphasises the need to deconstruct and reshape our perceptions of space, society and politics. I personally like to stress out the importance of feeling at ease while taking over new challenges, as developing in a caring environment brings a lot more results. My aim is to create that profitable space and encourage everyone to contribute to it with its own added value. I am very happy to meet you all soon. See you in Uherské Hradiště Arthur Würsten

PRESIDENT OF EYP CZECH REPUBLIC Dearest Officials, It is my pleasant duty and a great honour to welcome you to Uherské Hradiště 2019 on behalf of the Board of the European Youth Parliament Czech Republic. Our National Committee was established 20 years ago and has since sought to provide the participants with events combining a very high organisational level, a strong academic quality and a safe and open space to grow through exploring beyond the infamous comfort zone. I and my fellow Board Members are doing our best to ensure that this session is no exception and hope that together with Alžběta, Hana, Arthur, Marek, Anna and Görkem—the amazing Team Leaders who work very hard to make Tábor 2019 happen—you will enjoy this event to the fullest and move forward as individuals. To embrace this opportunity, I encourage you to meet and talk to as many people from the session as possible and to be ready to learn and benefit from what is coming no matter what your experience or background is. I am more than proud of each and every one of you for the amount of energy and preparations you are putting into this project. Thank you. Dearest Officials, I wish you all an inspiring weekend and I look forward to meeting you very soon. Yours faithfully, Viktor Karlíček

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ

HEAD OF JURY Dear fellow Officials, In more or less than a month, the fourth year of Regional Selection Conferences of EYP CZ will be taking place. Having had the opportunity to participate in the majority of them from the ex-position of an NC Board Member, it is now an exciting pleasure for me to join the Officials’ team and its leadership. This is probably not going to be your first Regional Selection Conference, but I would like to encourage you to find something special which you can use as a memory and easy connection to this event not only in order to keep it fresh in your EYP memories and avoid mixing experience from various sessions together but also to realise where you currently stand in EYP and analyse how much progress you have already gone through. For some of you it might be the first experience as an Official, first time solochairing, first time attending a session abroad etc. What for? Even though I suppose we all can agree that EYP is a truly unique project with the number of organised events highly rising each year, it might soon become easy to lose the track a bit and mix all of your EYP experience into one box. However, if you focus on realising your current position and that special aspect which happened or possibly made you apply for that given session, you can later see the progress how much your personality and skills have developed, you can see the benefits that each session gave you and improvements you made on your weaknesses. I wish you to find that aspect and hope that this experience will not be just regular session to your EYP session history. Cannot wait to meet you all! Yours, Marek Haisl 4

EDITORS Dearest Officials, Let us welcome you all on behalf of the whole Media Team! We are truly excited to make this session memorable and amazing both for you and the Delegates! Together we can combine all of our skills possible and work closely on shaping this event into a unique opportunity for self-development and growth of every participant! In our Media Team, we are willing to aim towards balanced project content, which means that both academic and fun projects will have a chance, whilst we will encourage making projects with an educational thought or directed to the session theme itself. Furthermore, we would also like to make a revival for written EYP media and issues! But alongside bringing something back, we want to also move forward and be as unique as possible! In addition to the aforesaid, we would also love to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible in our Media Team. Thus do not be afraid to stop by, have a great conversation with us and take a short break from your tasks! Looking forward to meet you very soon, Anna and Görkem

HEAD ORGANISERS Dearest Officials, On behalf of the Organising team, we are extremely honoured to welcome you on board of Uherské Hradiště 2019. We are incredibly delighted that you decided to take part in this event in order to help us shape the future of EYP Czech Republic and we sincerely hope you will enjoy the session to the fullest. With the session being a Regional Selection Conference, Uherské Hradiště will gather many Czech students seeing EYP for the first time and we firmly believe that having such bright and talented people in the Officials’ team will make this experience truly unforgettable for all the Delegates. And with the theme of the conference being self-development, we are confident you will get to acquire many new skills yourself. We hope you are as excited as we are and we cannot wait to soon meet all of you. Good luck with all the pre-session work and see you in Uherské Hradiště! With love, Hana and Alžběta

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ

UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ Uherské Hradiště is a wonderful historical town in the centre of the Moravian Slovakia region. The region is known for its folklore, generously decorated costumes and wine production. The latter is usually connected with wine celebrations that consist of different activities from parades to workshops about the craft of making wine. Another specialty is cimbalom music, usually played by ensembles featuring other, more common instruments, such as violins, clarinets and double basses. The city itself used to be a fortress and throughout its existence since the 13th century, it had to withstand many invaders and has only been conquered once. In the Middle Ages, the markets organised in the city had a major economic impact not only on the city itself, but also on the craftsmen who came to Uherské Hradiště from nearby towns. From that time, the city has never stopped evolving, which is why it now showcases all kinds of architectural styles, from The Jesuite College built in the 17th century to the Star Cinema which perfectly represents the architecture of the 1960s.The project was quite influential and inspired similar buildings in Czech cities Přerov and Prostějov. Uherské Hradiště is also the hometown of Bata, the biggest shoe making company in the world. Today, the city hosts around 26,000 inhabitants and becomes the centre of cultural life in the summer, when the Summer Film School, a festival for lovers of classic films, takes place.

SESSION MESSAGE As already mentioned above, the city is a fortress and, as many fortresses, used to be surrounded by walls. Uherské Hradiště 2019 is focused on breaking down your own metaphorical walls and becoming a better version of yourself, outgrowing your fears and taking a step outside your comfort zone, just like Uherské Hradiště is growing outside its walls today.

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ

COMMITTEE TOPICS Committee on Climate Change (CLIM)

Strike for climate: The growing influence of the Climate Strike movement, involving thousands of students in the streets worldwide, shows the willingness of the youth to take radical steps against climate change. How can the European Union further improve its environmental policies in order to reach a more sustainable Europe and efficiently fight against global warming?

Committee on Culture and Education (CULT)

Sexuality as a taboo: Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are amongst the five most common infectious diseases in Europe. With different approaches towards sex education across the European Union, how should Member States’ governments ensure the establishment and preservation of sexual and reproductive health through education?

Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI)

The “other” health: The amount of Europeans who suffer from mental health issues is on the rise, and approximately one out of five young adults has experienced mental and behavioural problems in their life. How can the European Union work on a comprehensive approach to mental health and have the Member States guarantee adequate treatment for their citizens?

Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs I (LIBE I)

Migration management: Since 2015, the refugee crisis is one of Europe’s toughest challenges due to its impact on human rights, politics and society. Considering all of those aspects, how should the European Union reform its immigration policies to ensure the safety and integrity of asylum seekers while ensuring the security of its external borders?

Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs II (LIBE II)

Whose face is it? With a new era of heavily edited audiovisual content and ‘deepfakes’ on their way, the intentional spread of fake and misleading content has never been easier. What should the European Union do to correctly identify and prevent such disinformation from being shared online?

Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering (CRIM)

Trading humans over borders: With human trafficking affecting several hundred thousand victims in the European Union annually and being amongst the most profitable criminal activities, how can the European Union effectively combat human trafficking in Europe, while preserving the free movement of persons?

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ

Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE)

New winds of cyber threats: With the 5G network entering Europe, new digital infrastructure may become an easy target for external cybercriminal activity. Bearing in mind the already alarming vulnerability to cybercrimes across Member States, how should the European Union secure its Digital Single Market strategy from forthcoming cybersecurity challenges?

Committee on Regional Development (REGI)

Doctors across borders: With an increasing number of medical residents leaving their home countries in search of better working conditions, some rural areas in Member States are facing a shortage of medical professionals. How can the European Union tackle this issue without restricting the right to free movement of labour?

VENUES ACCOMMODATION

Fabrika Hotel, Za Olšávkou 365 A comfortable three-star hotel, located in the Sady city district, a district famous for its church, which contains frescoes dating back to the 14th century. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and private bathrooms.

OPENING CEREMONY Panský dvůr Kunovice This complex of renaissance buildings is located in the centre of Kunovice and its first written mention dates back to 1196. Thanks to the European Union it was reconstructed between the years 2008–2011 and now serves as a business incubator.

COMMITTEE WORK

PANEL DEBATE, GENERAL ASSEMBLY
