TEACHERS’ WELCOME BOOKLET 8th Regional Selection Conference of EYP Czech Republic Uherské Hradiště 2019
REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ
WORDS OF WELCOME SESSION PRESIDENT Dear Teachers, It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you this November in Uherské Hradiště, for one of the two Regional Selection Conferences of EYP Czech Republic. With the help of the Head Organisers and the rest of the Officials, we hope to create an environment where all individuals can further develop and feel free to do so. Inspired by the history of Uherské Hradiště when the city was a stronghold at the border, the motto of the session “Tearing down the walls of obliviousness, exploring the new”, emphasises the need to deconstruct and reshape our perceptions of space, society and politics. I hope that you will appreciate this experience as much as we enjoy creating it, that you will provide your students with the encouragement they deserve and that you will embrace what the young generation has to offer. See you in Uherské Hradiště Arthur Würsten

PRESIDENT OF EYP CZECH REPUBLIC Dear Teachers, It is my pleasant duty and a great honour to welcome you to Uherské Hradiště 2019 on behalf of the European Youth Parliament Czech Republic. Our organisation was established 20 years ago and since sought to provide the participants with events combining a very high organisational level, a strong academic quality and a safe and open space where young people grow through discussing current matters, voicing their own opinions and exposing themselves to an international and diverse environment. Since our sessions are focused mainly on high school pupils, you as their educators act as a crucial support of our organisation. For this reason, I cannot stress enough how proud on and thankful to you I am for allowing these young people to move forward in their lives through exploring beyond their comfort zones. I and my fellow Board Members, along with Hana, Alžběta, Arthur, Marek, Anna and Görkem—the amazing Team Leaders who work very hard to make Uherské Hradiště 2019 happen—are doing our best to ensure that this conference is no exception from our standard and that all people involved benefit from what is coming. You, dear teachers, are a requisite part of the process—for that, I thank you very much. I wish you all an inspiring weekend and I look forward to meeting you very soon. Yours faithfully, Viktor Karlíček

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ
HEAD OF JURY Dear Teachers, after meeting you at several previous sessions from the position of a Board Member, it is my pleasure to address you with these words from a different angle, i.e. as the Head of Jury of the upcoming Regional Selection Conferences of EYP CZ 2019. Let me start by repeating how much we are grateful for the time, energy and support you spent on EYP and your students. After 7 years in the organisation, my time and activity in EYP will be decreasing. The same goes for other members of my generation, thus many opportunities for younger participants will now be open. Looking back, I now realize how much different those 7 years would be for me as a student coming from quite a small Bohemian town if there were no teacher at my school who would keep the connection with EYP and offer this kind of participation. I am sure that thanks for your contribution to some of your students’ several years-long participation in EYP might begin here. I understand that cooperation with a student volunteer organisation might not always be the easiest thing and we are extremely happy that you chose to try out / stay loyal to EYP even during the boom of other extracurricular activities. This time my task is mainly bearing the responsibility for the selection process of those who will participate in the upcoming 22nd National Selection Conference of EYP CZ, which will take place in March 2020. If you plan to discuss your students’ participation with them, I would like to ask you to motivate your students but please do not stress and remind them too much about the selection aspect of the event. After all, extracurricular activity should always be about the development of the individual student no matter what the final result would be. As long as they actively participate, take the opportunity to overcome challenges, develop themselves and obtain new knowledge and/or experience, they fulfil the purpose and mission of EYP. I look forward to seeing you again and meeting some newcomers as well! Yours faithfully, Marek Haisl 4

HEAD ORGANISERS Dearest Teachers, It is our utmost pleasure to welcome you to the Regional Selection Conference of EYP Czech Republic Uherské Hradiště 2019 on behalf of the whole Organising team. We are very honoured that the session we have been working on in the past months can offer you and your Delegates another opportunity to step into the world of EYP. Uherské Hradiště astonished us with its beauty and its history. It was once known as a rampart city but nowadays it is famous for its folklore and rich traditions, forming the cultural centre of Moravia. As its walls were once torn down, we aspire to create a safe environment for all the participants to grow, develop and tear down the walls of their own. We are very thankful for your interest in participation in EYP and we are looking forward to meeting you very soon in Uherské Hradiště. Best regards, Hana and Alžběta

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ
UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ The town of Uherské Hradiště has always been the natural centre of Slovácko – a region famous for its distinctive folklore, dulcimer music, good wine, beautiful folk costumes, and several well-preserved folk traditions. The historic city center was declared an urban conservation area. Uherské Hradiště was founded in 1257 by Czech King Přemysl Otakar II. The character and function of the city as a frontier fortress of the city predetermined its exposed location at the crossroads of trade routes. The was used as a fortress until 1782, but the walls began to make room for the building d evelopment of the city only from the 1840s. The city was founded in the so-called old (classic) residential area, i.e. in an area that has been continuously inhabited since the beginning of the historic period. The territory on which the town was founded belonged to the core of Great Moravia, the first state formation of Western Slavs in the 9th to 10th centuries. The Regional Selection Conference in Uherské Hradiště will be focused on the perspective of inclusion, development and empowerment, that should be reached by creating a productive and caring environment for all participants. This session will focus on how modern society impacts the development and education of individuals. The main aim of the session is breaking down our walls, deconstructing our beliefs and reshaping our perspectives. Czech students will have unique possibility to raise their voices and develop as individuals.
EYP IN A NUTSHELL The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a non-profit, politically neutral and independent organisation, focusing its activities especially on secondary school and university students. The main aim is to contribute to the development of young people’s skills and knowledge across Europe by creating a platform for the free sharing of opinions. Through our activities, we engage students in discussions on European and global issues, while developing their so-called “soft skills”, including communication skills, critical thinking, organisational skills, argumentation skills, rhetoric, leadership, teamwork, and foreign languages. Established in 1998, European Youth Parliament Czech Republic (EYP CZ) organises many events every year, including the most important ones – two Regional Selection Conferences, this year in Tábor and Uherské Hradiště, and a National Selection Conference, which will be held in March 2020 in Kroměříž. 7

COMMITTEE TOPICS Committee on Climate Change (CLIM)
Strike for climate: The growing influence of the Climate Strike movement, involving thousands of students in the streets worldwide, shows the willingness of the youth to take radical steps against climate change. How can the European Union further improve its environmental policies in order to reach a more sustainable Europe and efficiently fight against global warming?
Committee on Culture and Education (CULT)
Sexuality as a taboo: Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are amongst the five most common infectious diseases in Europe. With different approaches towards sex education across the European Union, how should Member States’ governments ensure the establishment and preservation of sexual and reproductive health through education?
Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI)
The “other” health: The amount of Europeans who suffer from mental health issues is on the rise, and approximately one out of five young adults has experienced mental and behavioural problems in their life. How can the European Union work on a comprehensive approach to mental health and have the Member States guarantee adequate treatment for their citizens?
Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs I (LIBE I)
Migration management: Since 2015, the refugee crisis is one of Europe’s toughest challenges due to its impact on human rights, politics and society. Considering all of those aspects, how should the European Union reform its immigration policies to ensure the safety and integrity of asylum seekers while ensuring the security of its external borders?
Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs II (LIBE II)
Whose face is it? With a new era of heavily edited audiovisual content and ‘deepfakes’ on their way, the intentional spread of fake and misleading content has never been easier. What should the European Union do to correctly identify and prevent such disinformation from being shared online?
Committee on Organised Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering (CRIM)
Trading humans over borders: With human trafficking affecting several hundred thousand victims in the European Union annually and being amongst the most profitable criminal activities, how can the European Union effectively combat human trafficking in Europe, while preserving the free movement of persons?
8
REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ
Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE)
New winds of cyber threats: With the 5G network entering Europe, new digital infrastructure may become an easy target for external cybercriminal activity. Bearing in mind the already alarming vulnerability to cybercrimes across Member States, how should the European Union secure its Digital Single Market strategy from forthcoming cybersecurity challenges?
Committee on Regional Development (REGI)
Doctors across borders: With an increasing number of medical residents leaving their home countries in search of better working conditions, some rural areas in Member States are facing a shortage of medical professionals. How can the European Union tackle this issue without restricting the right to free movement of labour?

ROLES OF OFFICIALS PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENT
The President of the session is responsible for the overall academic preparation of the conference – along with the Vice-Presidents, who are the President’s right hand people, they are overseeing the reliable and careful work of Chairpersons before and during the conference.
ORGANISERS AND HEAD ORGANISERS
The Organisers, headed by the Head Organisers, prepare everything they need for the conference a few months before the start and they are the ones whose diligent work brings the comfort and satisfaction to all participants.
CHAIRPERSONS

The Editors guide the Media Team.
JURY MEMBERS AND HEAD OF JURY
The Head of Jury is the leader of the Jury Team. The task of the Jury Members is to watch over the Delegates and their performance; and to decide according to certain criteria which delegations and individual Delegates will be selected to participate in the 22nd National Selection Conference of EYP Czech Republic held next year in March.

REGIONAL SELECTION CONFERENCE OF EYP CZ 2019 UHERSKÉ HRADIŠTĚ
ROLE OF A TEACHER AT A SESSION Teachers, like the other groups of participants, are essential for every conference. Without their extra work and motivation, we wouldn’t have Delegates at the session, and we would like to give them many thanks for that. Here are some tips and tricks for teachers, how could they improve their pupils’ time in Uherské Hradiště and help them before and during the session.
MOTIVATE YOUR STUDENTS
Every EYP session is about trying new things, going out of one’s comfort zone and gaining new experiences and friends. If the students know what they can expect from the session, they will be more calm and prepared than if they knew nothing. Please, try to explain to them what activities will take place during the whole session. A strong motivation for your students could be the selection to the National Selection Conference Kroměříž 2020, which will be held in March.
HELP THEM PREPARE FOR COMMITTEE WORK
Every delegate will be assigned to a committee. Every committee has a different topic and it is necessary for a smooth run of the Committee Work that students know something about the problematic and are prepared for the session. Everything related to their topic is included in the Academic Preparation Kit. Try to explain to them that they have to be able to understand the topic and should think about the solutions.
TALK TO YOUR STUDENTS DURING THE SESSION
Students will be full of joy and exciting experience, maybe full of stress and fear, and they will need to talk about it and share with someone who they trust.
EXPLAIN THE DRESS CODE TO THEM
At the session, mostly first-time Delegates will be present. Sometimes, they may be confused and unsure about the dress code. Please, try to explain to them what they should and should not pack and wear for every event.
