Welcome to the Regional Sessions! European Youth Parliament Finland will organise its Regional Sessions for the 8th time in autumn 2015. The sessions will take place during October and November in Kauniainen, Kangasala, Kuopio and Kaarina. Each of the sessions gather some 100 delegates and 40 officials from Finland and abroad. For Finnish delegates, the Regional Sessions act as a preliminary round for the 22nd National Session of EYP Finland, to be held in Lahti in January 2016. Since 2008, the Regional Sessions of EYP Finland have been a gateway to the world of EYP for thousands of high school students in Finland. They have also gained a solid reputation as high-quality events among the international EYP community as indicated by the high number of applications for officials’ posts in recent years. With organising four regional sessions for the third time, EYP Finland is offering altogether over 150 officials’ posts! EYP Finland now welcomes you to apply for another round of Regional Sessions in Finland. The call is open for Vice-Presidents, Editors and Chairs until 19 August and for Editorial Assistants and Journalists until 6 September. All of the Regional Sessions will have about 17 members in the Chairs’ team, 1–2 Editors, 1–2 Editorial Assistants and eight Journalists. A warm welcome to the Regional Sessions of EYP Finland in 2015!
Marja Pentikäinen President European Youth Parliament Finland
How to take part? Each Regional Session will host an international team of officials and you can apply for multiple sessions and positions. The call is open for Vice-Presidents, Editors and Chairs until 19 August and for Editorial Assistants and Journalists until 6 September. You can find the instructions for the application below. Each applicant will be informed of the outcome of the selection within two weeks of the deadline. EYP Finland places emphasis on the transparency and fairness of the selection procedure. Reasonable balance of nationalities and levels of experience will be pursued, but the guiding principle will be that of meritocracy. Thus, we encourage all applicants to pay attention to their applications, and the selection panel will also provide all rejected applicants with feedback on their application upon request. The participation fee for Finnish officials is 25 EUR. There is no participation fee for foreign officials, but the participants need to cover their travel expenses. We believe that you distinguish yourself by your talents and the ambition to contribute those to the session. And we do not consider a number of questions we came up with to be the ideal method of discovering what makes you a valuable asset to our team. We want you to show us in your own way who you are and why you are the best fit for the Officials’ Teams of the Finnish Regional Sessions in 2015. Hence, no selection panel questions. Instead, your opportunity to reveal your skills in your unique way. We ask all applicants to fill the Application Form for Chairs, Editors and Vice-Presidents at http://tinyurl.com/EYPFIRSCallForOfficials2015 before August 19th 23:59 CEST and for Editorial Assistants and Journalists at http://tinyurl.com/EYPFIRSMediaCall2015 before September 6th 23:59 CEST. The link can also be found on the Alumni Portal. You can address any aspect you deem relevant to support your application. We reckon a blank space and what you write to it be the best possibility for us to get to know you, your qualities and your ambitions.
FAQ What do you value in a Motivation Letter? We will be reading quite a few Motivation Letters. Thus, use content, structure, formatting and whatever comes to your mind to support your key message. Your Motivation Letter should convey your core strengths briefly and clearly. I have no idea what to write about. What should I do? Start with what distinguishes you from other applicants. What are you excellent at? What do you really enjoy doing? What is your motivation to apply for the role you are applying for? Every strength you have can be valuable to our team. You could also read through your past evaluations and see what other people considered as your main assets. I want to apply as VP and Chairperson/ Editor and Journalist. Do I need to write two Motivation Letters? Please only submit one Motivation Letter whilst stating clearly that you wish to support us in either of those positions. However, you may want to explain your talents for both capacities. When will I hear back from you? We will do our best to conduct the selection process as quickly as possible to assure you have sufficient time to complete your travel arrangements. But we place a thorough consideration above speed, hence we ask you for some patience.
