Euroopan nuorten parlamentin toimintaan osallistuminen on erinomainen tapa nuorten osallistujien kerätä tietoa ajankohtaisista asioista ja hankkia hyödyllisiä taitoja tulevaisuudellensa. Se on myös loistava esimerkki aktiivisten nuorten valmistautumisesta tulevaisuuden vastuisiin, kokoontumisesta muodostamaan rajoja ylittäviä ystävyyksiä ja ottamisesta osaa kulttuurienväliseen keskusteluun. 1. YLEISTÄ

EYP Finlandin suojelijat EYP Finlandin tapahtumia ovat vuosina 2012–2020 suojelleet muun muassa tasavallan presidentti Sauli Niinistö, entinen pääministeri Alexander Stubb, entinen elinkeinoministeri Olli Rehn, komissaari Jyrki Katainen, Tampereen pormestari Lauri Lyly sekä Euroopan parlamentin varapuhemies Heidi Hautala, Euroopan parlamentin jäsenet Henna Virkkunen, Sirpa Pietikäinen, Nils Torvalds ja Miapetra Kumpula-Natri.

European Youth Parliament Finland – EYP Finland ry on puolueeton ja itsenäinen koulutuksellinen nuorisojärjestö. Se on ainutlaatuinen foorumi, joka rohkaisee nuoria eurooppalaisia ottamaan osaa yhteiskuntansa rakentamiseen. Euroopan nuorten parlamentin missio on inspiroida ja vahvistaa nuorten eurooppalaisten mahdollisuuksia tulla avoimiksi, suvaitseviksi ja aktiiviksi kansalaisiksi. EYP Finland on Euroopan nuorten parlamentin kansallinen komitea Suomessa, joka huomioi kansainvälisten tavoitteiden toteuttamisen omassa toiminnassaan. European Youth Parliament toimii yhteensä 40 Euroopan maassa. EYP Finland järjestää vuosittain erilaisia jäsen- ja koulutustapahtumia, tukee Eurooppa-opetusta kouluissa, koordinoi erilaisia hankkeita ja toimii yhteistyössä kansainvälisten ja kansallisten yhteistyökumppaneidensa kanssa. EYP Finland perustettiin nykyisessä muodossaan vuonna 2001, mutta EYP-toimintaa on Suomessa ollut jo 1990-luvulta lähtien. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finlandin päätapahtuma on Rovaniemellä järjestettävä EYP Finlandin ensimmäinen kansainvälinen foorumi, joka kokoaa yhteen noin 200 eurooppalaista nuorta yhdeksäksi päiväksi. Lisäksi EYP Finland järjestää tammikuussa vuosittaisen Suomen kansallisen Euroopan nuorten parlamentin istunnon, joka sekin tuo yhteen noin 140 nuorta osallistujaa 25 eri maasta. Osana Eurooppalainen kansalaisuuteesi -hanketta järjestetään neljä alueellista istuntoa, joihin osallistuu noin 600 nuorta eri puolilta Suomea keskustelemaan, väittelemään ja muodostamaan oman mielipiteensä eurooppalaisuudesta ja ajankohtaisista eurooppalaisista kysymyksistä. Näiden kansainvälisten suurtapahtumien kautta EYP Finland pyrkii lisäämään nuorten tietoisuutta Euroopasta sekä rohkaisemaan heitä aktiiviseen yhteiskunnalliseen osallistumiseen myös vuonna 2020.

EYP Finlandin ydinkohderyhmä on 16–20-vuotiaat lukiolaiset, jotka ovat kiinnostuneita esimerkiksi yhdestä tai useammasta seuraavista teemoista: yhteiskunnallisista asioista, kansainvälisyydestä, eri kulttuureista, matkustamisesta, vaikuttamisesta, uusien ihmisten tapaamisesta, julkisesta esiintymisestä tai siinä kehittymisestä, väittelystä, kielistä tai kielitaitojen parantamisesta sekä järjestötoiminnasta. Laajempaan kohderyhmään kuuluvat myös ammattiin opiskelevat 15–21-vuotiaat nuoret ja muut nuoret sekä yhteistyökumppanit, opettajat ja tukijat. EYP Finland edistää nuorten kansainvälistymistä ja tarjoaa mahdollisuuksia kulttuurien kohtaamiselle. EYP Finland valitsee ja kouluttaa Suomen edustajat EYP:n kansainvälisiin istuntoihin ja muihin istuntoihin ulkomailla. Se ottaa myös osaa EYP:n kansainväliseen päätöksentekoon kansallisten komiteoiden neuvoston (Board of National Committees) kautta. EYP Finland lähettää vuosittain 50 nuorta koulutuksiin, istuntoihin ja muihin Euroopan nuorten parlamentin tapahtumiin ulkomailla. EYP Finlandin toimii täysin nuorilta nuorille -periaatteen mukaisesti, eli toiminta rakentuu nuorten ideoiden, kiinnostuksen kohteiden ja vapaaehtoisten työpanoksen varaan. Järjestön toiminta on vapaaehtoisuuteen perustuvaa ja voittoa tavoittelematonta. Yhdistystä johtaa sen syyskokouksen valitsema hallitus. Nuorten vapaaehtoisten tekemistä ja järjestön kehitystä tukee kokoaikainen pääsihteeri.

Suomalaisnuoret kansainvälisinä vaikuttajina EYP Finlandin edustajat ovat perinteisesti olleet aktiivisesti mukana EYP:n kansainvälisessä kehityksessä. Yhdistyksen entisistä puheenjohtajista Tapio Schrey, Ville Vasaramäki, Krista Lagus, Robert Torvelainen ja Jari Marjelund ovat kaikki toimineet kansainvälisen EYP:n ylimmässä päättävässä elimessä (Governing Body). Vasaramäki oli vuosina 2011–2013 järjestön Executive Director, ja Lagus on toiminut tehtävässä vuosina 2013–2016.

2 TOIMINTAVUODEN TAVOITTEET EYP Finlandin hallitus on tunnistanut järjestölle kolme keskeistä tavoitetta vuodelle 2020. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland on: • Osallistava EYP Finland on osallistava järjestö, jossa nuoret voivat saavuttaa täyden potentiaalinsa. • Vaikuttava EYP Finland on vaikuttava ja ajankohtainen. Vuonna 2020 tapahtumissa käsitellään erityisesti ilmasto- ja ympäristökysymyksiä sekä kestävää kehitystä. • Kansainvälinen EYP Finland vahvistaa tunnettavuuttaan nuorten keskuudessa luotettavana vaihtoehtona päästä ulkomaille sekä saada kansainvälisiä kokemuksia myös kotimaassa. Tavoitteet esitellään tarkemmin sivuila 8-10. Painopisteiden lisäksi toimintasuunnitelmassa esitellään EYP Finlandin konkreettisia suunnitelmia vuodelle 2020 ja tulevia yhteistyöhankkeita. Toimintasuunnitelma on jaettu yhdistyksen perustoiminnan mukaan viiteen osaan: 1. aktiiviseen kansalaisuuteen, 2. kansainväliseen toimintaan, 3. koulutustoimintaan, 4. jäsen- ja paikallistoimintaan ja 5. muihin hankkeisiin, joka pitää sisällään yhteistyöhankkeita ja -tapahtumia. Vuoden 2020 keskeisten tavoitteiden ja koko toimintasuunnitelman laatimisessa on otettu huomioon EYP Finlandin nykytila, säännöt, EYP Finlandin yhdenvertaisuussuunnitelma sekä EYP Finlandin strategia vuosille 2018–2020. Kyseiset dokumentit ovat luettavissa EYP Finlandin nettisivuilla: https://eypfinland.org/en/about-us/ Vuonna 2017 EYP Finland laati strategian vuosille 2018–2020 kansainvälisen EYP:n strategian, järjestön nykytilan ja tarpeiden sekä jäsenten näkemysten pohjalta. Strategiaa ja siihen kirjattuja tavoitteita on käytetty vuoden 2020 toimintasuunnitelman pohjana.

2.1 OSALLISTAVA

"EYP Finland on osallistava järjestö, jossa nuoret voivat saavuttaa täyden potentiaalinsa." Vuoden 2020 aikana jäseniä ja vapaaehtoisia osallistetaan ja sitoutetaan antoisien ja monipuolisten tehtävien kautta ympäri vuoden. Koulutusten lisäksi vapaaehtoisille tarjotaan projektiluontoisia rooleja ja tehtäviä esimerkiksi johtamis-, viestintä- ja ryhmätyötaitojen kehittämiseksi. Houkutteleva toiminta ja kannustava ilmapiiri innostavat nuoria paitsi osallistumaan tapahtumiin, myös ottamaan osaa järjestön kehittämiseen ja päätöksentekoon. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland osallistuu myös aktiivisesti nuoria kiinnostaviin ja heidän elinympäristössään tapahtuviin yhteiskunnallisiin tapahtumiin. Jäsenistöä motivoidaan osallistumaan tapahtumiin järjestön edustajina. Aktiivinen jäsen- ja vapaaehtoistoiminta edistää nuorten aktiivista osallistumista, verkostoitumista kohde- ja sidosryhmien keskuudessa sekä toiminnan vaikuttavuutta. EYP-toiminta on kouluajan ulkopuolista harrastamista, jonka kautta nuoret saavat uusia ystäviä ja luovat verkostoja Suomessa ja muualla Euroopassa.

Toiminnallisuus pitää jäsenet aktiivisina yhteiskunnassa ja tuo mielekkyyttä arkeen. Monelle EYP Finland on ensimmäinen järjestö, jossa pääsee oppimaan vapaaehtoisuuden periaatteita. Aktiiviset jäsenet ja vapaaehtoiset ovat elintärkeä voimavara myös toiminnan vaikuttavuuden kannalta. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finlandin paikallisjärjestöjen toimintaa pyritään aktivoimaan ja vahvistamaan muun muassa kannustamalla paikallisaktiiveja mukaan osana Eurooppalainen kansalaisuutesi ja Nuorten ääni kuuluviin -hankkeita järjestettäviin tapahtumiin ja tapahtumien järjestelyihin. Sekä paikallisjärjestöjen hallituksille että muille vapaaehtoisille järjestetään koulutuksia ja annetaan kattavasti informaatiota, jotta jokainen kokee olevansa tervetullut mukaan toimintaan ja tietää millaisia etenemismahdollisuuksia heillä on järjestössä. Yhteydenpitoa jäseniin toteutetaan myös vuosittaisella jäsenkyselyllä, joiden avulla jäsenet voivat vaikuttaa järjestön tulevaisuuteen.

2.2 VAIKUTTAVA

"EYP Finland on vaikuttava ja ajankohtainen." EYP Finland järjestää vuosittain vapaaehtoisvoimin lukuisia suurtapahtumia, joissa käsitellään ajankohtaisia yhteiskunnallisia aiheita. Lisäksi EYP Finland järjestää pienempiä vierailuita ja tapahtumia eri puolilla Suomea. Kansainvälisessä foorumissa, kansainvälisissä ja kotimaisissa istunnoissa sekä koulutuksissa koulutetaan nuorista aktiivisia kansalaisia ja vaikuttajia, jotka osallistuvat yhteiskunnan toimintaan. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland ottaa aktiivisemman vaikuttajan roolin, kun istunnoissa esiin nousseita nuorten mielipiteitä ja kannanottoja tuodaan esiin sosiaalisen median lisäksi myös avoimissa yleisötapahtumissa. Osana Nuorten ääni kuuluviin -hanketta EYP Finland järjestää keskustelutilaisuuksia, joissa kansalliseen istuntoon osallistuneet nuoret pääsevät tekemään konkreettista vaikuttamistyötä ja keskustelemaan yhteiskunnallisista asioista paikallisten päättäjien kanssa. Samalla nuoret pääsevät hyödyntämään istunnoissa oppimiaan tietoja ja taitoja. Vuonna 2019 julkaistun Eurobarometrin* mukaan ilmastonmuutoksen torjuminen ja ympäristönsuojelu olivat suomalaisille äänestäjille yksi tärkeimmistä äänestysvalintoihin vaikuttaneista kysymyksistä vuoden 2019 europarlamenttivaaleissa. Vuonna 2020 erityisesti ilmasto- ja ympäristökysymykset sekä kestävä kehitys tuodaan vahvemmin esiin EYP Finlandin tapahtumissa,

erityisesti kansallisessa istunnossa ja EYP Finlandin ensimmäisessä kansainvälisessä foorumissa, jonka tavoitteena on lisätä tietoisuutta tekojemme vaikutuksista ympäristöön ja kannustaa nuoria ottamaan kantaa yhteiskunnallisiin ja pohjoismaisiin kysymyksiin. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finlandin viestintä sosiaalisessa mediassa on aktiivisempaa ja kantaaottavampaa. Vuonna 2020 viestintävastuuta jaetaan niin, että päävastuu jäsenille suunnatusta viestinnästä ja ulkoisesta viestinnästä jaetaan kahdelle hallituksen jäsenelle. Sosiaalisessa mediassa nostetaan esiin erityisesti Euroopan unioniin liittyviä ajankohtaisia kysymyksiä ja keskusteluaiheita. Vuonna 2016 ensimmäistä kertaa palkattu kokopäiväinen pääsihteeri tukee nuorten vapaaehtoisten organisoimaa viestintää ja vaikuttamistoimintaa.

2.3 KANSAINVÄLINEN

"EYP Finland edistää aktiivisesti nuorten kansainvälistymistä ja vahvistaa tunnettavuuttaan nuorten keskuudessa luotettavana vaihtoehtona päästä ulkomaille." EYP Finland vahvistaa tunnettavuuttaan nuorten keskuudessa luotettavana vaihtoehtona päästä ulkomaille sekä saada kansainvälisiä kokemuksia myös kotimaassa. EYP Finland tunnetaan hyvänä esimerkkinä kansainvälisestä järjestöstä sekä suomalaisissa oppilaitoksissa että EYP:n kansainvälisessä verkostossa. EYP Finland tarjoaa nuorille useita mahdollisuuksia kansainvälistyä niin Suomessa kuin ulkomaillakin. EYP Finland on osa laajempaa 40 maan EYP-verkostoa, ja EYP Finlandin jäseniä lähtee ulkomaisiin EYP-tapahtumiin ympäri vuoden. Tavoitteena on lähettää 50 nuorta ulkomaille erilaisiin EYPtapahtumiin, jotka koostuvat muun muassa Euroopan nuorten parlamentin istunnoista sekä koulutuksista. Nuorten jäsenten osallistumista tapahtumiin ulkomailla tuetaan rahallisesti EYP Finlandin tukirahaston kautta. EYP Finlandin edustajille tarjotaan lisäksi tukea ja koulutusta ennen ulkomaille lähtöä webinaarin välityksellä. Mahdollisuuksien mukaan edustajille tarjotaan myös vierailuja suurlähetystöihin. Tavoitteena on tukea nuorten kansainvälistymistä sekä lisätä nuorten yhdenvertaisia mahdollisuuksia.

EYP Finlandin järjestämissä kotimaisissa tapahtumissa nuorilla on mahdollisuus osallistua kulttuurien väliseen keskusteluun kansainvälisessä ilmapiirissä. Vuosittain EYP Finlandin tapahtumiin osallistuu nuoria jopa 30 eri Euroopan maasta, ja kansainvälisten osallistujien määrää pyritään edelleen lisäämään vuonna 2020. Tapahtumissa käytetty kieli on englanti, mikä lisää nuorten kielitaidon ja rohkeuden kehittymistä. Mahdollisuudet kansainvälistymiseen ja kulttuurien kohtaamiseen myös kotimaassa ovat tärkeitä nuorten kehityksessä suvaitseviksi ja aktiivisiksi kansalaisiksi. EYP Finland ylläpitää toimintakulttuuriaan osallistumalla aktiivisesti kansainvälisen EYP:n päättäviin elimiin, lähettämällä suomalaisia kouluttajia kansainvälisiin tapahtumiin sekä pitämällä vahvan edustuksen EYP:n kansainvälisissä istunnoissa. Vuonna 2020 kansainvälistä yhteistyötä vahvistetaan myös järjestämällä EYP:n ensimmäinen kansainvälinen foorumi Rovaniemellä ja yhteistyökoulutus Venäjän EYP-järjestön kanssa Pietarissa.

3. AKTIIVINEN KANSALAISUUS Aktiivinen kansalaisuus on EYP Finlandin ydintoiminnan alueista suurin. Aktiiviseen kansalaisuuteen kannustavat hankkeet rohkaisevat suomalaisia nuoria ottamaan kantaa ajankohtaisiin eurooppalaisiin kysymyksiin ja osallistumaan yhteiskunnan toimintaan aktiivisina nuorina kansalaisina. 3.1 Eurooppalainen kansalaisuutesi EYP Finland on järjestänyt Eurooppalainen kansalaisuutesi -hankkeen vuosittain vuodesta 2010 lähtien ja hanke jatkuu kymmenettä kertaa vuonna 2020. Hankkeen tavoitteena on aktivoida ja innostaa nuoria yhteiskunnallisiksi ajattelijoiksi sekä saada heidät pohtimaan vaikutusmahdollisuuksiaan Euroopan kansalaisina. Hanke koostuu kahdesta osasta: alkusyksystä järjestettävästä mittavasta valtakunnallisesta koulukiertueesta ja loka–marraskuussa järjestettävistä neljästä alueellisesta suurtapahtumasta – EYP Finlandin alueellisista istunnoista. Jokaista suurtapahtumaa edeltää kaksipäiväinen koulutus vapaaehtoisille nuorille. Hankkeen toteutuksessa on mukana yhteensä lähes 200 nuorta Suomesta ja muualta Euroopasta. Koulukiertueella esitellään Eurooppalainen kansalaisuus -hanketta, ajankohtaisia eurooppalaisia aiheita sekä Euroopan nuorten parlamentin toimintaa. Vuonna 2020 koulukiertueella pyritään tavoittamaan 3000 nuorta. Tarkoituksena on tavoittaa kaikki Suomen lukiot sekä vähintään 30 ammattioppilaitosta.

Alueelliset istunnot kokoavat kukin noin 120 nuorta sekä Suomesta että muualta Euroopasta. Alueellisissa istunnoissa toiminnasta kiinnostuneita nuoria valitaan osallistujiksi EYP Finlandin päätapahtumaan eli kansalliseen istuntoon. Suurtapahtumien pääjärjestäjien haku ja valinta tehdään tammikuussa 2020. Muut vapaaehtoiset rekrytoidaan ja valitaan kevään ja kesän aikana. EYP Finlandin hallitus on aktiivisessa yhteydessä pääjärjestäjien kanssa läpi vuoden. Lisäksi pääjärjestäjille tarjotaan kolmipäiväinen koulutus tammi–helmikuussa 2020, välitapaamisia vuoden aikana sekä palautekoonti alueellisten tapahtumien jälkeen marrasjoulukuussa. Jokaisen suurtapahtuman pääjärjestäjät pitävät järjestäjätiimeilleen koulutuksen kesällä 2020. Taloudellisen tilanteen salliessa Aktiivinen kansalaisuus -toimintaan palkataan syksyllä 2020 määräaikainen projektityöntekijä, joka koordinoi ja tukee vapaaehtoisten toimintaa sekä varmistaa hankkeiden onnistumisen.

3.2 Kansallinen istunto – Tampere 2020 Kansallinen istunto on yksi EYP Finlandin vuoden päätapahtumista, ja se kokoaa yli 140 nuorta keskustelemaan ajankohtaisista yhteiskunnallisista Eurooppa-aiheista ja haasteista. EYP Finlandin kansallinen istunto järjestetään Tampereella 3.–7. tammikuuta 2020. Tapahtumaan kutsutaan asiantuntijoita antamaan puheenvuoroja ja keskustelemaan istunnoissa käsiteltävistä komitea-aiheita. Tampere 2020 -istunnon järjestelyt on tehty pääasiassa vuonna 2019, ja projekti saatetaan päätökseen vuonna 2020. Kansalliselle istunnolle on saatu yhteistyökumppaneita ja rahoitusta Jenny ja Antti Wihurin rahastosta, Otto A. Malmin lahjoitusrahastosta ja Stiftelsen Emilie och Rudolf Gesellius fondilta. Istunnon noin 140 osallistujasta arviolta kolme neljäsosaa tulee Suomesta. Heidät on valittu osallistumaan istuntoon EYP Finlandin Eurooppalainen kansalaisuutesi -hankkeen neljästä suurtapahtumasta syksyllä 2019.

Noin neljäsosa tapahtuman osallistujista tulee muista Euroopan maista. Kansainvälinen osallistujajoukko takaa kulttuurien välisen dialogin, monikielisyyden ja monikulttuurisuuden. Lisäksi kansainväliset osallistujat tuovat erilaisia näkökulmia käsiteltäviin aiheisiin. Istunnon teema on “Clearer skies for the future - European environmental responsibility leading the world”, ja tapahtumaan osallistuvat nuoret keskustelevat kansainvälisissä työryhmissä kestävään kehitykseen liittyvistä kysymyksistä, esimerkiksi päästökaupasta ja ruokahävikistä. Työryhmäkeskustelun päätteeksi nuoret kokoavat teeman ongelmien ratkaisemiseksi päätöslauselmia, jotka esitellään tapahtuman yleisistunnossa ja lähetetään päättäjille ja suojelijoille istunnon jälkeen. Tampereen istunnon suojelijoita ovat Tarja Halonen, Iiris Suomela ja Heidi Hautala. Istuntoa edeltää kaksipäiväinen koulutus, johon osallistuu noin 50 nuorta. Koulutuksessa keskitytään tapahtuman teemoihin, ryhmänohjaustaitoihin ja johtamiseen, viestintätaitoihin sekä tapahtuman järjestämiseen. Istunnon järjestelyistä vastaavat EYP Finlandin hallituksen valitsemat pääjärjestäjät yhdessä johtamansa järjestäjätiimin kanssa.

3.2 Kansainvälinen foorumi – Lappi 2020 Lappi 2020 on EYP Finlandin ensimmäinen kansainvälinen foorumi, joka kokoaa yhteen noin 200 eurooppalaista nuorta yhdeksäksi päiväksi Rovaniemelle huhtikuussa 2020. Ajankohtaisen tapahtuman teemaksi on valittu “Rajojen sulattaminen: Yhteistyö kestävämmälle arktiselle alueelle”, sillä ilmastonmuutoksen vaikutukset ovat kiistatta uhka arktiselle ympäristölle. Jotta voisimme säilyttää arktisen sekä pohjoismaisen alueen luonnon monimuotoisuuden ja turvata paikallisen yhteisön elinympäristön, on meidän korostettava kestävää kehitystä pohjoismaisen yhteistyön voimin. Tapahtuman tavoitteena on lisätä tietoisuutta tekojemme vaikutuksista ympäristöön sekä kannustaa nuoria ottamaan kantaa yhteiskunnallisiin ja pohjoismaisiin kysymyksiin. EYP Finlandin istuntojen tapaan kansainvälisessä foorumissa hyödynnetään epämuodollisen koulutuksen metodeja. Tapahtuman rakenne jäljittelee Euroopan parlamentin toimintaa ja tapahtumassa on 12 komiteaa eli työryhmää. Komiteoissa nuoret keskustelevat ajankohtaisista pohjoismaisista aiheista ja tekevät ratkaisuja aiheita koskeviin ongelmiin. Nuoria kannustetaan keskustelemaan erityisesti ajankohtaisista EU-poliittisista teemoista,

kyseenalaistamaan mielipiteitään ja ottamaan asioihin rohkeasti kantaa. Foorumissa nuoret pääsevät kehittämään niin argumentaatio- ja keskustelutaitoja kuin yhteiskunnallista ymmärrystäkin. Tapahtumassa pääsee parantamaan myös kielitaitoa, sillä foorumin työskentelykieli on englanti. Kansainvälinen foorumi on EYP Finlandin ensimmäinen Lapissa järjestettävä suurtapahtuma, jonka aikana osallistujat pääsevät tutustumaan myös Lapin ja Pohjois-Suomen kulttuuriin. Kansainvälinen foorumi kannustaa nuoria aktiiviseen kansalaisuuteen, pohjoismaiseen yhteistyöhön ja kansainväliseen verkostoitumiseen. Tapahtuma tuo yhteen nuoria saamelaisalueilta, pohjoismaista ja muualta Euroopasta ja vahvistaa myös eurooppalaisten nuorten tietoisuutta saamelaiskulttuurista ja alkuperäisväestöistä. Tapahtumalla pyritäänkin vahvistamaan myös kansalaisuuksien ja kulttuurien välistä tasaarvoa ja suvaitsevaisuutta.

4. KANSAINVÄLINEN TOIMINTA

Kaikki EYP-toiminta on luonteeltaan kansainvälistä ja tukee kulttuurien välistä dialogia, monikulttuurista ymmärrystä sekä nuorten kansainvälistymistä. Suomalaiset nuoret pääsevät myös Suomessa järjestettävissä EYP-tapahtumissa tutustumaan nuoriin kaikkialta Euroopassa. Vuonna 2020 tavoitteena on, että EYP Finlandin tapahtumissa Suomessa on osallistujia yli 30 maasta. Tärkeä osa EYP Finlandin toimintaa on myös suomalaisten nuorten . lähettäminen muualla Euroopassa järjestettäviin EYP-tapahtumiin. Vuonna 2020 pyritään lähettämään 50 nuorta ulkomaille. EYP Finlandin hallitus valitsee vuosittain kansallisesta istunnostaan lukuisia delegaatioita osallistumaan tapahtumiin ulkomailla, minkä lisäksi se tukee jäsentensä omatoimista osallistumista vastaaviin tapahtumiin. Osallistujia valitaan ulkomaille myös avointen hakujen kautta. Vuonna 2020 nuorille jaetaan avustuksia osallistumismaksuihin ja matkakuluihin EYP Finlandin tukirahastosta. Tukirahoituksen tarkoituksena on edistää kaikkien jäsenten yhdenvertaista mahdollisuutta lähteä ulkomaille. Tuen jaossa huomioidaan sosioekonomiset ja maantieteelliset perusteet ja painotetaan ensimmäistä kertaa EYP-tapahtumaan ulkomailla osallistuvia jäseniä. Tukirahastosta jaettujen avustusten laajuus riippuu EYP Finlandille myönnetyistä avustuksista sekä muun varainkeruun tuloksista. 14

4.1 Kansainväliset istunnot Euroopan tason päätapahtumia ovat kolme kansainvälistä istuntoa, jotka kukin kokoavat noin 300 eurooppalaista nuorta keskustelemaan ajankohtaisista aiheista. Istunnot kestävät noin kymmenen päivää. EYP Finland valitsee vuosittain kansallisesta istunnostaan noin kahdeksan hengen delegaatiot kansainvälisiin istuntoihin, ja joka vuosi tarjotaan lisäksi muutama paikka erillishaun kautta. Myös opettajilla on mahdollisuus osallistua kansainvälisiin istuntoihin. Heille tarjotaan tapahtumissa ohjelmaa, joka sisältää muun muassa koulutuksia ja seminaareja. Euroopan nuorten parlamentin kansainväliset istunnot järjestetään vuonna 2020 keväällä Milanossa (Italia), kesällä Varsovassa (Puola) ja syksyllä Nikosiassa (Kypros).

4.2 Muut tapahtumat ulkomailla Kansainvälisten istuntojen lisäksi EYP Finland valitsee vuosittain lukuisia delegaatioita osallistumaan muihin EYPtapahtumiin ulkomailla. Kansallisten istuntojensa lisäksi Euroopan nuorten parlamentin kansalliset komiteat järjestävät muun muassa eripituisia kansainvälisiä foorumeita. Ne noudattavat tavallista EYP-tapahtumien rakennetta kooten osallistujia eri puolilta Eurooppaa, mutta voivat keskittyä esimerkiksi johonkin tiettyyn teemaan ja painottavat vielä enemmän erilaisten kulttuurien ymmärtämistä. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finlandin hallituksen jäseniä ja muita aktiivisia jäseniä lähetetään ulkomaille eripituisiin kokouksiin ja koulutuksiin. Näihin kuuluvat muun muassa EYP Summer Academy, jossa eri maiden hallituksen jäsenet verkostoituvat ja kouluttautuvat, sekä Training for EYP Trainers, joka on suunnattu eri tapahtumissa kouluttajina toimiville aktiiveille.

4.3 Delegaatioiden koulutus EYP Finland järjestää kaikille ulkomaille lähteville delegaatioille koulutusta. EYP Finlandin kansainvälisten suhteiden vastaava kouluttaa delegaatit edustustehtävää sekä kansainvälistä kokemusta varten. Delegaattien osallistumista tuetaan tukirahaston kautta EYP Finlandin yhdenvertaisuussuunnitelman tavoitteiden mukaisesti. Delegaatit voivat myös keskustella toistensa kanssa delegaattien yhteisen Facebook-ryhmän kautta. Delegaatioille pyritään järjestämään suurlähetystövierailu kohdemaan suurlähetystöön Suomessa.

4.4 Kansainvälinen yhteistyö EYP Finland on yksi EYP:n vakiintuneimmista kansallisista komiteoista. Palkattu henkilökunta, pitkäaikainen strategisen ajattelun periaate sekä Suomen oloihin

räätälöity istuntojen järjestämisen toimintamalli toimivat esimerkkeinä monille muille kansallisille komiteoille. Kuluvan strategiakauden yhtenä painopisteenä on aktiivinen verkostoituminen muiden kansallisten komiteoiden kanssa sekä kansainvälisen EYP-toiminnan kehittäminen tiedon ja hyvien käytäntöjen jakamisen kautta. Hallituksen kansainvälisten suhteiden vastaava tulee kehittämään EYP Finlandin kansainvälistä yhteistyötä monella eri tasolla. EYP Finlandin jäsenten osallistumismahdollisuuksia kansainväliseen päätöksentekoon parannetaan keskustelemalla kansallisten komiteoiden neuvoston kokousmateriaaleista avoimesti jäsenistön kanssa sähköisesti. Hallitus kannustaa aktiivisia jäseniä osallistumaan kansainvälisiin työryhmiin ja pyrkii itse kouluttautumaan sekä kouluttamaan EYP:n järjestämissä kansainvälisissä koulutustapahtumissa.

5. KOULUTUSTOIMINTA

5. Koulutustoiminta Euroopan nuorten parlamentti on ensisijaisesti koulutuksellinen järjestö. EYP Finlandin koulutustoiminnan tavoitteena on kehittää nuorten taitoja ja valmiuksia, jotka ovat tärkeitä sekä EYP-toiminnassa että nuorten henkilökohtaisessa ja ammatillisessa kehityksessä. EYP:n toiminta korostaa ennen kaikkea epämuodollista sekä kokemuksellista oppimista; kyse on oppimisesta tekemisen ja itsensä haastamisen kautta. EYP-metodologian mukaisesti kaikessa koulutustoiminnassa pyritään tarjoamaan vahva teoreettinen perusta. Vuonna 2020 tavoitteena on vahvistaa kahden vapaaehtoisille suunnattavan koulutusten sisällön laatua sekä koulutusten kansainvälistä luonnetta. Koulutuksissa hyödynnetään kansainvälisesti hyväksi todettuja EYP-moduuleja sekä kokeneita kansainvälisiä tai kotimaisia kouluttajia. Siten EYP Finland vahvistaa myös ydintoimintaansa nuorilta nuorille suunnattuna koulutuksellisena järjestönä sekä kansainvälisenä toimijana. Vuoden 2020 koulutuksissa käsitellään lisäksi ajankohtaisista yhteiskunnallisia ja eurooppalaisia asioita, esimerkiksi ilmasto- ja ympäristökysymyksiä, vahvistaen nuorten aktiivista kansalaisuutta sekä eurooppalaista yhteistyötä.

5.1 Vapaaehtoiskoulutus

5.2 Jäsenpäivä

EYP Finland järjestää koulutuksen, joka tarjoaa jäsenille valmiudet jatkaa osana järjestön toimintaa sen eri vapaaehtoisrooleissa. Vuonna 2020 pääpainona on tarjota jäsenille mahdollisuus oppia johtamis- ja viestintätaitoja sekä tapahtumien järjestämiseen ja projektinhallintaan liittyviä taitoja. Tapahtumassa on sekä kouluttajia että osallistujia muista Euroopan maista.

Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland järjestää jälleen jäsenpäivän, joka kokoaa nuoria yhteen kouluttautumaan sekä vaihtamaan ideoita EYP Finlandin toiminnan kehittämisestä erityisesti jäsenten toiveiden pohjalta. Jäsenpäivä on tärkeä järjestön jäsenien ja tapahtumien pääjärjestäjien kohtaamispaikka. Vuoden 2020 jäsenpäivä järjestetään EYP Finlandin kevätkokouksen yhteydessä suuren kaupungin keskustassa, jotta tapahtuma on helposti saavutettava mahdollisimman monelle. Vuoden 2020 jäsenpäivän koulutusosiossa painotetaan muun muassa jäsenten etenemismahdollisuuksia EYP:n kansallisessa ja kansainvälisessä toiminnassa.

5.3 Muu koulutustoiminta EYP Finland pyrkii myös tukemaan yhdistyksen hallituksen, henkilöstön ja muiden aktiivisten jäsenten kouluttautumista tarjoamalla osallistumismahdollisuuksia sidosryhmien järjestämiin koulutuksiin. Koulutustoimintaa tukemalla EYP Finland tahtoo kannustaa aktiivisia jäseniään kehittämään itseään sekä motivoimaan heitä aktiiviseen yhteiskunnalliseen osallistumiseen. Koulutukseen osallistujat raportoivat hallitukselle oppimastaan, jolloin koulutukset hyödyntävät Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland järjestää myös enemmän pi- koko yhdistyksen toimintaa. enempiä koulutuksia ja ekskursioita esimerkiksi ulkoministeriöön, ympäristöministeriöön ja Euroopan parlamentin Suomen toimistolle. Lisäksi Helsingin ulkopuolella järjestetään pienempiä koulutus- tai keskustelutilaisuuksia ulkopuolisen puhujan johdolla. Pienempiin tapahtumiin panostamalla EYP Finland pyrkii monipuolistamaan toimintaansa, aktivoimaan paikallistoimijoita sekä tarjoamaan matalan kynnyksen koulutuksellisia tapahtumia yhteiskunnallisista kysymyksistä kiinnostuneille nuorille eri kaupungeissa. Hyvän palautteen kannustamana EYP Finland järjestää myös vuonna 2020 yhteistyökoulutuksen Venäjän EYPjärjestön kanssa. Koulutuksen tarkoitus on kehittää vapaaehtoisten johtamis-, projektinhallinta-, viestintä-, varainkeruu- ja esiintymistaitoja sekä jakaa hyviä käytäntöjä järjestöjen kesken.

6. JÄSEN- JA PAIKALLISTOIMINTA

EYP Finlandin jäsentoiminta lujittaa sen jäsenistön yhteisöllisyyttä. Jäsentoiminta on tärkeää jäsenistön sitouttamiseksi järjestötoimintaan, yhdistyksen toiminnan jatkuvuuden edistämiseksi ja vapaaehtoisten motivoimiseksi. Jäsentoiminnasta vastaavat ennen kaikkea yhdistyksen paikallisjärjestöt, mutta EYP Finland järjestää myös valtakunnallista jäsentoimintaa. Esimerkiksi yhdistyksen vuosijuhla kokoaa aina marraskuussa yhteen eri sukupolvien EYP-vapaaehtoisia tarjoten heille mainion tilaisuuden muistella kulunutta vuotta. EYP Finlandilla on viisi paikallisjärjestöä: EYP Helsinki, EYP Turku, EYP Tampere, EYP Itä-Suomi ja EYP Pohjois-Suomi. Kullakin paikallisjärjestöllä on oma hallituksensa ja jäsenistönsä, joskin kaikkien paikallisjärjestöjen jäsenet kuuluvat ensisijaisesti aina EYP Finlandiin. EYP Finland pyrkii vuonna 2020 aktivoimaan ja vahvistamaan olemassaolevia paikallisjärjestöjä osallistamalla niiden vapaaehtoisia toiminnan ja tapahtumien suunnittelussa ja toteutuksessa.

Paikallisjärjestöille jaetaan myös ehdollista tapahtumatukea: paikallisjärjestö raportoi EYP Finlandin hallitukselle paikallistapahtuman onnistumisesta määrättyä summaa vastaan.

Euroopan nuorten parlamentissa kulttuurit ja ihmiset kohtaavat demokratian ja tulevaisuuden. Niissä keskusteluissa syntyy yhteistyön verkostoja ja näkemys aina paremmasta maailmasta, joka odottaa tekijöitä. Anna-Kaisa Ikonen Tampereen pormestari 2013-2017

7. MUUT HANKKEET

7.1 Nuorten Eurooppa EYP Finland on useina vuosina toteuttanut Euroopan parlamentin Suomen tiedotustoimiston Nuorten Eurooppa -hankkeen. Hanke on aiemmin kulkenut nimellä Nuorten ääni ratkaisee – EU luokkahuoneessa. EYP Finland vastaa hankkeesta myös vuonna 2020. Hankkeen tavoitteena on lisätä nuorten tietoisuutta EU:n päätöksenteosta ja Euroopan parlamentin toimintatavoista sekä kannustaa nuoria kertomaan omia mielipiteitään ja keskustelemaan EU-asioista muiden nuorten kanssa.

Hankkeen tavoitteena on järjestää 50 Euroopan parlamenttisimulaatiota toisen asteen oppilaitoksissa ympäri Suomea. Parlamenttisimulaatioissa nuoret keskustelevat pienryhmissä ajankohtaisista Eurooppaaiheista sekä muodostavat ratkaisujensa pohjalta päätöslauselmaehdotuksen, joka esitellään koko luokan yhteisessä täysistunnossa. Hanke vahvistaa nuorten esiintymis-, argumentointi- ja väittelytaitoja. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland rekrytoi ja kouluttaa kaksi koululähettilästä, markkinoi hanketta opettajille ja muille sidosryhmille sekä koordinoi kouluvierailujen menestyksekästä edistymistä.

EYP Finland myös vastaa parlamenttisimulaatioden suunnittelusta sekä hankkeen materiaalien päivittämisestä. Parlamenttisimulaatiot ovat osoittautuneet erinomaiseksi tavaksi saada lukiolaisten lisäksi nuoria sekä yläkouluista että ammattioppilaitoksista mukaan oppimaan ja keskustelemaan Eurooppa-kysymyksistä. Hankkeen kohderyhmä on 13–29 -vuotiaat yhteiskunnallisista asioista kiinnostuneet nuoret, joiden kautta voidaan saavuttaa kattava joukko erilaisia nuoria, lisätä eri-ikäisten nuorten välistä vuoropuhelua sekä antaa kaikille nuorille mahdollisuus osallistua hankkeeseen.

7.2 Nuorten ääni kuuluviin -hanke Vuonna 2020 EYP Finlandin tavoitteena on ottaa aktiivisempi vaikuttajarooli uuden Nuorten ääni kuuluviin -hankkeen myötä. Euroopan nuorten parlamentin istunnoissa esiin nousseita nuorten mielipiteitä ja kannanottoja tuodaan hankkeen myötä esiin sosiaalisen median lisäksi myös avoimissa yleisötapahtumissa, joita järjestetään useissa kaupungeissa. Yleisötapahtumissa kansalliseen istuntoon osallistuneet nuoret pääsevät tekemään konkreettista vaikuttamistyötä ja keskustelemaan yhteiskunnallisista asioista paikallisten päättäjien kanssa. Samalla nuoret pääsevät hyödyntämään istunnoissa oppimiaan tietoja ja taitoja.

7.3 Muu yhteistyö Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland jatkaa ja vahvistaa aktiivista ja monialaista yhteistyötä eri toimijoiden kanssa. EYP Finland tekee yhteistyötä muiden järjestöjen, opettajien sekä muiden yhteiskunnallisten toimijoiden kanssa. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland jatkaa osallistumistaan Allianssi ry:n toiminnassa sen jäsenjärjestönä ja pyrkii osallistumaan niihin Allianssin tapahtumiin, jotka ovat EYP Finlandin toiminnan tavoitteille relevantteja. EYP Finland jatkaa aktiivista yhteydenpitoa relevanttien sidosryhmien kanssa, jotta toiminta tavoittaa myös ammattikouluissa

opiskelevat sekä Nuva ry:n kanssa parantaakseen nuorten mahdollisuuksia osallistua toimintaan. Vuonna 2020 pyritään vahvistamaan sekä monikulttuuristen nuorisojärjestöjen kanssa. Tämä jatkaa vuonna 2017 aloitettua uudenlaista yhteistyötä Espoon kaupungin maahanmuuttajapalveluiden kanssa monikulttuuristen nuorten osallistamiseksi Euroopan nuorten parlamentin toimintaan.

7.4 Muut tapahtumat ja edustus Vuonna 2020 tavoitteena on kehittää uusia toiminnan muotoja sekä sisältöjä, joilla EYP Finland voi osallistua ja joita EYP Finland voi tarjota sidosryhmien tapahtumien sisällöksi. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland osallistuu muun muassa nuorten messutapahtumiin sekä muiden yhteistyökumppaneiden tilaisuuksiin, kuten Eurooppanuorten Linnaseminaariin. Lisäksi EYP Finland osallistuu nuorisoedustajana Turun Eurooppa-foorumiin, Allianssin järjestämiin tilaisuuksiin sekä EU-aiheisiin seminaareihin ja tapahtumiin.

8. HALLINTO 7. MUUT HANKKEET 8.1 Yhdistyksen kokoukset EYP Finlandin ylintä päätäntävaltaa käyttävät kevät- ja syyskokous, joita järjestetään kahdesti vuodessa. Yhdistyksen kevätkokous järjestetään hallituksen määräämänä päivänä huhti– toukokuussa ja syyskokous loka–marraskuussa. Yhdistyksen kokoukseen ovat tervetulleita kaikki EYP Finlandin jäsenet, joilla jokaisella on ääni- ja puheoikeus antaen heille mahdollisuuden vaikuttaa EYP Finlandin kehitykseen ja toimintaan osallistumisellaan.

8.2 Hallitus EYP Finlandia johtaa sen syyskokouksen valitsema hallitus, joka koostuu EYP Finlandin toiminnassa aktiivisesti mukana olevista nuorista. Se hallinnoi järjestön valtakunnallista toimintaa, pitää yhteyttä EYP Finlandin yhteistyökumppaneihin sekä kehittää järjestön toimintaa strategisesti. Hallitus on seitsenhenkinen, ja se kokoontuu noin kuukausittain ja pitää päivittäin yhteyttä sähköisesti. Hallituksen toiminnan koordinoinnista vastaa yhdistyksen syyskokouksen valitsema puheenjohtaja. Hallitus valitsee keskuudestaan yksi tai kaksi varapuheenjohtajaa. Myös EYP Finlandin paikallisjärjestöjen puheenjohtajilla on puhe- ja läsnäolo-oikeus EYP Finlandin hallituksen kokouksissa. Vuonna 2020 maksetaan hallituksen jäsenille, paikallisjärjestöjen puheenjohtajille sekä varajäsenille ennalta sovitun summan mukaista, suoriteperusteista kokouspalkkiota. Kokouspalkkioilla pyritään sitouttamaan hallituksen jäseniä 24

järjestön toimintaan ja sen aktiiviseen kehittämiseen. Hallitukselle maksetaan kokouspalkkioita kevät- tai syyskokouksen päätöksen mukaisesti.

8.3 Keskustoimisto EYP Finlandin keskustoimisto sijaitsee Allianssi ry:n tiloissa Pasilassa Helsingissä. Sijainti luo mahdollisuuksia verkostoitumiselle nuorisokentällä. Yhdistyksen kokoaikaisesti palkattu pääsihteeri työskentelee keskustoimistolta käsin päivittäin. Hänen työtehtäviinsä kuuluvat muun muassa rahoitushakemusten ja -raporttien laatiminen, laskutus, jäsenrekisterin ylläpitäminen sekä muiden hallinnollisten tehtävien hoitaminen. Pääsihteeri vapauttaa nuoret vapaaehtoiset liiallisista hallinnollisista tehtävistä ja auttaa kehittämään toimintaa. Vuonna 2020 tavoitteena on säilyttää kokoaikainen pääsihteeri sekä mahdollisuuksien mukaan palkata EYP Finlandin hankkeisiin yksi projektityöntekijä syksylle ja yksi keväälle. Lisäksi hankkeisiin pyritään palkkaamaan kaksi osa-aikaisesti työskentelevää, määräaikaista kouluttajaa.

8.4 Paikallisjärjestöt EYP Finlandin viisi paikallisjärjestöä, EYP Helsinki, EYP Tampere, EYP Turku, EYP Itä-Suomi ja EYP Pohjois-Suomi koordinoivat EYP Finlandin toimintaa omilla alueillaan sekä järjestävät koulutustapahtumia ja virkistystoimintaa jäsenilleen. Ne vastaavat myös kontakteista oman alueensa kouluihin ja EYP Finlandin vuosittaisen koulukiertueen toteutumisesta omalla toimialueellaan.

9. TALOUS JA YHTEISTYÖKUMPPANIT

Useimmat EYP Finlandin hankkeista ja tapahtumista pyritään rahoittamaan niistä saatavilla tuloilla: osallistumismaksuilla, paikallisilla avustuksilla ja yhteistyökumppaneiden tuella. Yritysyhteistyön ja muiden yksityisten rahoittajien merkitys EYP Finlandin toiminnan rahoittamisessa on viime vuosina kasvanut. Samaan aikaan myös toimintamenot ovat jatkuvasti kasvaneet. Siten sekä opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriön nuorisoalan järjestöjen toiminta-avustus että ulkoministeriön avustukset Eurooppatiedotus-hankkeille ovat EYP Finlandille elintärkeitä. EYP Finlandin hallinnollisia menoja kasvattavat keskustoimiston ylläpitäminen ja kokoaikainen pääsihteeri. Kokoaikaisen pääsihteerin lisäksi vuonna 2020 pyritään palkkaamaan kaksi määräaikaista projektityöntekijää koordinoimaan Eurooppalainen kansalaisuutesi -hanketta ja Nuorten ääni kuuluviin -hanketta. Lisäksi pyritään palkkamaan kaksi määräaikaista ja osa-aikaisesti työskentelevää koululähettilästä Nuorten Eurooppa -hankkeeseen. Nämä ovat merkittäviä taloudellisia panostuksia toiminnan vakauden ja ammattimaistamisen osalta; EYP Finlandin kokoisen järjestön pyörittäminen vain nuorten vapaaehtoisten voimin olisi liian vaativaa ja raskasta. Vuonna 2020 varsinaisen toiminnan kuluja nostaa erityisesti kansainvälisen foorumin järjestäminen, mutta myös EYP Finlandin koulutuksellisen toiminnan lisääminen ja laadun vahvistaminen, projektityöntekijöiden palkkaaminen EYP Finlandin hankkeiden koordinaation mahdollistamiseksi,

hankkeiden määrän kasvu ja ympärivuotisen toiminnan lisääntyminen. Panostamalla hallinnolliseen puoleen ja kokoaikaiseen pääsihteeriin on pystytty kehittämään järjestön varainkeruuta sekä monipuolistamaan toimintaa. Kuitenkin edelleen ehdoton valtaosa niistä lukuisista työtunneista, joita EYP-toiminnan järjestämiseen Suomessa vuosittain kuluu, tehdään nyt ja tullaan myös jatkossa tekemään nuorten vapaaehtoisvoimin ilman rahallista korvausta. Vuonna 2020 EYP Finland rahoittaa perustoimintansa kuten aiempinakin vuosina. Useiden tapahtumien odotetaan lähtökohtaisesti kattavan omat kulunsa osallistumismaksuilla sekä paikallisella varainhankinnalla. EYP Finlandin hallitus toimii läheisesti yhteistyössä tapahtumien järjestäjien kanssa, jotta tämä tavoite saavutetaan. Paikallisen varainhankinnan lisäksi EYP Finland pyrkii solmimaan myös valtakunnallisia yhteistyösopimuksia. Tavoitteena on myös solmia yritysten ja yhteisöjen kanssa pidempiaikaisia yhteistyösopimuksia, jotka takaisivat resursseja yksittäisten tapahtumien ja hankkeiden lisäksi myös yhdistyksen muuhun toimintaan ja hallintoon.

10. EYP FINLANDIN STRATEGIA 2018-2020

EYP:n kansainvälinen strategia vuosille 2016–2020 keskittyy vahvistamaan strategista ajattelua EYP-verkostossa. EYP Finland on strategisessa ajattelussa johtoasemassa, sillä järjestön toinen strategiakausi 2018–2020 on käynnissä, kun taas ensimmäinen strategiakausi 2015–2017 on jo saatettu päätökseen. Strategia keskittyy neljään pääpilariin, minkä lisäksi toimintaa ohjaavat tarkasti asetetut tavoiteindikaattorit. Vuosien 2018, 2019 ja 2020 toimintasuunnitelmat on valmisteltu yhdessä vuosien 2018–2020 strategian kanssa. Hallitus arvioi strategian tavoitteiden toteutumista joka toimintavuoden päätteeksi. Vuonna 2020 asetetaan strategiatyöryhmä luomaan strategia vuosille 2021–2024. Vuonna 2017 EYP Finlandin hallituksen strategiatyöryhmä analysoi päättyvän strategian tavoitteiden toteutumista, keräsi jäsenistön ajatuksia järjestön tulevaisuudesta jäsenkyselyn muodossa, sekä pohti suuntauksia vuosille 2018–2020.

Tämän työn pohjalta hallitus on tunnustanut vuosille 2018–2020 neljä strategista painopistealuetta: Vakaus ja osallistavuus EYP Finland on aktiivinen vapaaehtoisjärjestö, jolla on am- mattimainen toimintakulttuuri. Kokopäiväinen pääsihteeri tukee nuorten vapaaehtoisten organisoimaa toimintaa. Järjestön toiminta on vakiintunutta pitkäaikaisen sitoutumisen kulttuurin ja aktiivisesti vanhoilta jäseniltä nuoremmille jaetun tietotaidon ansiosta, ja hyviksi havaittuja toimintamalleja säilytetään, arvioidaan kriittisesti ja kehitetään entistä paremmiksi. Yhdenvertaisuus EYP Finland edistää nuorten yhdenvertaisuutta ja yhdistää nuoria eri sosioekonomisista taustoista, koulutuspoluista, kulttuureista ja kieliryhmistä. Kaikilla on yhdenvertaiset mahdollisuudet edetä järjestössä ja vastaanottaa luottamustoimia pelkästään oman mielenkiintonsa ja motivaationsa perusteella.

Innostavuus EYP Finland tunnetaan nuorten epämuodollisen koulutuksen johtavana edistäjänä toisen asteen koulutuksessa Suomessa. EYP Finlandin viestintä on ajankohtaista, monipuolista ja johdonmukaista, sekä tavoittaa oikeissa kanavissa nuoret, opettajat, yhteistyökumppanit ja tukijat. Vapaaehtoistyöhön osallistuminen on jäsenille helppoa, houkuttelevaa ja palkitsevaa. Verkostoituminen EYP Finland on nuorten keskuudessa tunnettu ja luotettava vaihtoehto päästä ulkomaille sekä saada kansainvälisiä kokemuksia. Monialainen yhteistyö on merkittävää EYP Finlandin toiminnan ke- hittämiseksi. EYP Finland tunnetaan hyvänä esimerkkinä kansainvälises- tä järjestöstä suomalaisissa toisen asteen oppilaitoksissa, muiden nuorisojärjestöjen keskuudessa, ju- lkisissa laitoksissa, yrityksissä sekä EYP:n kansainvälisessä hallinnossa. Jäsenet kerryttävät sosiaalista pääomaa ja pystyvät luomaan merkittäviä kontakteja Suomessa ja ulkomailla.

10.1. KANSAINVÄLINEN EYP STRATEGIA 2018-2020

Vuosien 2016–2020 kansainvälisen strategian neljä pääaluetta ovat:

netelmiään ja metodologiaansa säännöllisesti tarjoten mahdollisuuksia itsensä kehittämiseen sekä vanhoille aktiivisille jäsenille että uusille tulokkaille. EYP:n vahvuus organisaationa on sidottu siihen miten hyvin se pystyy tukemaan jatkuvaa osallistumista mielenkiintoisten ja palkitsevien kokemusten kautta.

Koulutuksellisena organisaationa EYP pyrkii inspiroimaan ja voimaannuttamaan nuoria eurooppalaisia riippumatta heidän sukupuolesta, etnisyydestä, kansallisuudesta, sosioekonomisesta asemasta tai kyvyistä. Osallisuuden kautta keskitytään edistämään yhdenvertaisuutta, saavutettavuutta, liikkuvuutta ja alueellista edustusta, jotta voidaan tunnistaa uusia kohderyhmiä ja kriittisesti arvioida EYPn rakenteita.

EYP toiminta on nuorilta nuorille; se on rakennettu eurooppalaisten nuorten vapaaehtoistyön voimin. EYP:n yli 3000 vapaaehtoista suunnittelevat, valmistelevat ja toteuttavat EYP:n tapahtumia ympäri Euroopan vuosittain. Tämä työpanos tulee huomioida ja palkita. Vapaaehtoistyön lisäarvo tulee osoittaa vahvemmin, jotta EYP:n pitkän aikavälin kehitys voidaan taata.

Kansainvälisen EYP:n strategia on uudistettu vuonna 2016. Vuonna 2017 EYP Finlandin kansallisen tason strategia uudistettiin kansainvälisen strategian pohjalta ja se tuli voimaan vuonna 2018.

2. Empowerment / Voimaantuminen EYP toiminnan kautta nuoret saavat arvokkaita taitoja, tietoa ja itseluottamusta antaen vahvan pohjan vaikuttamiseen yhteiskunnassa. Jotta korkealaatuista koulutusta voidaan jatkossakin tarjota, pyrkii EYP arvioimaan opetusme-

uren vaihtuvuuden myötä. Tämän takia organisaation tasapainoa, jatkuvuutta ja ammattimaisuutta tulee vahvistaa, kuin myös hallinnollista kapasiteettia ja johtamistaitoa, jotta tietotaito säilyy sukupolvelta toiselle luoden vahvan pohjan EYP:n kehitykselle. 4. Stability and continuity / Tasapaino EYP on kasvanut perustamisestaan, vuodesta 1987 lähtien valtavasti, ja se jatkaa myös kasvuaan nopealla tahdilla. 11. KANSAINVÄLINEN EUROOPAN NUORTEN PARLAMENTTI

Euroopan nuorten parlamentti (European Youth Parliament) on vuonna 1987 perustettu kansainvälinen järjestö, jonka toiminta on tarkoitettu eurooppalaisille nuorille. Se edistää koulutuksen eurooppalaista ulottuvuutta antamalla opiskelijoille ja heidän opettajilleen mahdollisuuden osallistua käytännölliseen ja myönteiseen oppimiskokemukseen. EYP-kokemus kannustaa nuoria hankkimaan ensikäden tietoa muista kulttuureista, arvostamaan niiden eroavaisuuksia ja tekemään yhteistyötä muiden nuorten kanssa kansain- välisessä ympäristössä. Opiskelijoita myös kannustetaan ottamaan selvää ajankohtaisista tapahtumista ja yhteiskunnasta, ajattelemaan itsenäisesti ja olemaan aloitteellisia. Euroopan nuorten parlamentin päätehtävä on inspiroida ja voimaannuttaa nuoria eurooppalaisia kasvamaan avoimiksi, suvaitseviksi ja aktiivisiksi kansalaisiksi.

Euroopan nuorten parlamentin tavoitteita ovat: 1. Lisätä tietoisuutta Euroopasta, kannustaa aktiiviseen eurooppalaiseen kansalaisuuteen ja motivoida opiskelijoita ottamaan osaa Eurooppa-politiikkaan. 2. Edistää kansainvälistä yhteisymmärrystä, kulttuurien välistä dialogia sekä ajatusten ja toimintatapojen rikkautta. 3. Tarjota eurooppalaisille nuorille mahdollisuuksia henkilökohtaisten taitojensa kehit- tämiseen. 4. Tarjota foorumi, jossa Euroopan nuoret voivat ilmaista oman mielipiteensä joutumatta turvautumaan ulkoa annettuihin rooleihin. Euroopan nuorten parlamentin toiminnan ydin ovat sen istunnot. Kansainvälisellä tasolla EYP kokoontuu vuosittain kolmesti; näihin kymmenpäiväisiin istuntoihin osallistuu 300 nuorta 40:sta Euroopan maasta. Alueellisella ja kansallisella tasolla EYP kokoontuu lisäksi yli sata kertaa vuodessa. EYP-istuntoon osallistuminen on nuorelle näkyvä kansainvälinen edustustehtävä, josta saadut kokemukset seuraavat häntä koko hänen elämänsä ajan. Euroopan nuorten parlamentin tukijalka ovat sen kansalliset komiteat, joita vuonna 2019 oli 40. Kansalliset komiteat järjestävät suurimman osan EYP-toiminnasta ja esimerkiksi valitsevat maidensa edustajat EYP:n kansainvälisiin istuntoihin. Ne myös tekevät läheistä yhteistyötä keskenään. Vuosittain EYP-tapahtumia järjestetään noin 600, joissa on lähes 35.000 osallistujaa. Kansainvälinen EYP on saksalaisen Schwarzkopf-säätiön suojeluksessa.

1. Please introduce yourself. My name is Matti, I am 22 years old, and originally from Kuopio. Finland. I am currently finishing my exchange semester in Milan, Italy (returning to Finland in December 2019), after which I am finished with my Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration (BScBA) degree. In EYP, my most relevant milestones include: • 2017: President (EYP Eastern Finland) • 2018: Vice President for PR & Communications (EYP Finland) • 2019: President (EYP Finland) Overall in EYP, my focus has always been on the NC development side instead of doing lot of sessions abroad. You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. In 2020, I would love to continue as the President of the organisation as my final year in the NC Board. Parts of the role of President you really only learn by experiencing it; therefore, this year has given great insight about what went well and where to improve. I am willing to continue on this path of improvement, both regarding the organisation and its activities, as well as myself. For specific goals and vision, I will address them in section 4. 3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. To answer this question, I will further inspect the different tasks of the President, focusing on the practical implementation. Due to the event calendar of EYP Finland focusing heavily in the period of August-December, it is quite tough to manage both the Board activities and the employees towards the end of the year. Thus, my vision includes heavy involvement of 1 Vice President in the day-to-day Board management. In practice, it would include shared responsibility of following the progress of various activities and being a focal person for other Board Members. This frees up resources for the President to focus more on the strategic development (new strategy will be formed in 2020!) and employee support.

Depending on the structure of the Board and the interests of Board members, I would also be willing to distribute partnership & project coordination onwards, e.g. as a portfolio for a Deputy Member. Often these “external projects” (i.e. parliamentary simulations, Europe game) require some attention from the President, not being part of a specific portfolio. The time spent here could be further used in personalised support of Board members, for example. In 2020, the degree of reporting will be increased, mostly due to the International Forum in Lapland. Being another extraordinary project and outside traditional portfolios, coordination by the President is required between the Head Organisers and the Secretary General to fulfil all requirements. However, there are opportunities also here for further task distribution, for example to a Deputy Member. Overall, the experience as the President in 2019 has given a solid base to continue in 2020. Furthermore, participating in the EYP Presidents’ Meeting in both 2018 and 2019 has given ideas and inspiration, for example in the form of best practices from other NCs. Finally, my studies have included courses in both non-profit and public management. 4. How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? The Action Plan for 2020 is quite well aligned with my overall vision and goals next year. Some ideas for development I have already mentioned in the previous section. However, to pinpoint three specific goals, they are: •

Board transparency and member engagement. With the traditional portfolio allocation, as well as based on personal experiences in 2018, it is difficult to manage communications both for external (public, sponsors, teachers) and internal (members, participants) audiences. Doing both for one PR person is simply too much, especially with EYP Finland growing in terms of public visibility. At the same time, more and more events require Officials to be selected based on invitations, which is not the most transparent and inclusive process. Thus, my goal for 2020 is to establish a new Human Resources portfolio, responsible for internal communications as well as event selections. The idea came to me at Summer Academy 2019 as a best practice from other NCs. I would like to set up a goal of publishing a selection report after each selection panel. Furthermore, new methods of member engagement should be explored, e.g. in the form of a WhatsApp group or a Slack channel on EYP Finland slack. Finally, in case of inviting Officials (which often seems to be the case with EYP media), I would like the practice to be more consistent, perhaps by creating a shortlist of people that people can voluntarily sign up for.

Continued inclusion of Head Organisers. The increase of ownership for Head Organisers was already a major focus for 2019. However, the practice still requires some tweaking in balancing both the vision of the Head Organisers as well as ensuring a minimum standard and quality for each session. Furthermore, a second Head Organisers meeting/training

should be arranged halfway the year as its dedicated event to ensure a more consistent motivation throughout the year. It can also be noted some session activities, such as fundraising, often start many months later than planned by the Board and may feel intimidating by the Head Organisers. I would like to explore alternatives to the current practice, especially regarding corporate fundraising, to both provide a potential source of income for travel reimbursements from abroad (our main funding source does not allow that) as well as provide opportunities for more long-term partnerships. Finally, interlinked with the point of Human Resources, the new portfolio will ideally solidify practices in including Head Organisers in a meaningful way to Officials selections, to build more cohesive and integrated Officials teams. •

Critical review of current event calendar and Board term. As mentioned, a heavy chunk of the Board work is in autumn. School tour, four Regional Sessions, largest fundraising applications, drafting of action plan and budget, autumn meeting and board transition all in the span of four months can be overwhelming, even with paid staff. As a new long-term strategy will be formed in 2020, I would like to explore a possibility to shift the timing of half the Regional Sessions to spring. Not only this would make the organisation more agile (opportunities in the autumn often need to be turned down due to lack of time) but increase the well-being and motivation of the Board (no need to wait for 10 months for the first major event of the year) and create more year-round participation opportunities (many of our volunteers may only be able to do one Regional Session within the time span of 4 weeks, or move abroad in autumn). Another aspect I would like to investigate is the Board term being an academic year instead of a calendar year. Often Board members are full-time students and their life situations change after summer (moving to another city, moving abroad, starting the military service etc). This creates challenges for the Board, e.g. in 2019 5/7 members of the Board living abroad made it more difficult for Board to participate in EYP Finland sessions or external representation events. This also ties to the aspect of member engagement; currently, the action plan and budget are accepted in the Autumn meeting after being already sent to Ministry of Education of Culture, our main source of funding, with little possibilities for members to provide their input. Moreover, spring meeting traditionally has lacked interest by members, despite being a platform to still adjust the activities for the ongoing year and go over the previous year’s budget. Incorporating everything into a one annual meeting in summer would also leave more time for a Board transition (generally there is nobody studying in summer) and free time from additional administrative duties (preparing meeting documents, invitations, securing meeting venue etc). Finally, combining the explanation of last year’s expenses and Board elections for the next term would provide a more integrated approach of finances and activities.

1. INTRODUCE YOURSELF My name is Maisa Kankkunen and I’m 19 years old. I’m currently doing a gap-year after graduating from the IB programme here in Turku, Finland. I grew up in the Middle East, specifically Lebanon and Israel, and moved to Finland in 2014. My gap-year is consisting of EYP and travel, as well as a whole lot of much needed time to do things outside of school. Next year I plan on moving to The Hague to start studying International Relations and Organisations. Those who have met me have most likely seen me running around sessions as an organiser, and for those who I haven’t met yet, I’m very social and I believe that a good sense of humour can go a long way. As a fun fact, I have a three year old dog that’s named after a root vegetable. 2. WHY DO YOU APPLY FOR THE BOARD OF 2020? (Vision, goals, motivation) I’m applying for the 2020 board of EYP Finland because I have gotten to a point at which I believe I know enough about our organisation to know what I want to change, improve and advance. When I first started EYP in the fall of 2016 with the Naantali regional session, being a part of the board was a very obscure goal. Having met EYP:ers from all around Europe during the past couple of years, I have learnt a great deal on how EYP is run, and how we all benefit from each other’s experience. When I started in EYP, the events hosted by the regional committees were extremely important in feeling welcomed into the organisation, and turned out to be one of the best ways to meet the people that help set you up with the foundation needed to start a great EYP career. Hence, the vision I have for the future of EYP Finland is one that has the space for anyone to be active, and the funds to make alternative session ideas a reality. This involves heavy cooperation between the National Committees, and especially between our Regional Committees, in order to be able to communicate and connect with the people that share a similar vision. Seeing as session coordination is what I am most interested in, I believe it deserves to be said that EYP Finland already has the potential for even greater sessions and regional events. When it comes to giving the Head-Organisers of next year’s sessions guidance to how sessions and events come together, I believe it’s time to start leading by example. 3. WHAT KIND OF TASKS WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN THE BOARD OF 2020? EXPLAIN WHY YOU WOULD FIT YOUR DESIRED TASK. Out of the roles that the board currently has to offer, I see myself working with session coordination as the most fitting task. I started an organising career almost by accident, having been pulled into it by the first people I met within EYP. Having focused almost solely on organising so far in my EYP career, I have been giving it a 100% the whole way. The lessons I learnt from Head-Organising, as well as the advice I received in

the very beginning have made me confident that right now, while I am still learning, I'm competent enough in terms of my organising abilities to tackle the responsibility of a board role, and having Head-Organised before, I have the knowledge on the work it takes to make a session, and I hope to bring that experience into the board. The continuity of EYP has played a significant role in my motivation to learn as much possible. Everyone has someone in EYP that they look up to, whether that is your first chair from when you were a first time delegate, the Head-Organisers as a first time Organiser, or the Editor of a session when you’re taking your first steps into Media. For me, the people I look up to are the ones who share what they know, and try to make sure that EYP remains the open environment that it has been. Seeing as I believe that it is soon time to put my organising career on hold to focus on the other aspects of EYP, the chance to pass on what I know to the Head Organisers of 2020 is the most decisive factor in my interest to be applying to the board.

4. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO DEVELOP EYP FINLAND, ESPECIALLY REGARDING THE TASKS YOU ARE MOST INTERESTED IN? WHAT DO I ACTUALLY WANT TO DO? The sessions of 2019/2020 are proving that the passion for creating the most memorable and unique sessions is one of the building blocks for change within EYP Finland. The regional session of Lahti, for example, was fully vegetarian in terms of food, and used mainly eco-friendly cutlery made out of sawdust instead of plastic. The Tampere National Session of 2020 has hotel/hostel accommodation for all participants for the first time in EYP Finland history, again proving that we have the tools for session innovation within ourselves already. With the task of session coordination I want to encourage and help make these ideas come true, as EYP does not have to be, and should not be, an environment in which we recreate what everyone else has done for the sake of ease. In addition to my plans to improve and increase fundraising, there are a number of other things that could be improved. The first steps to making real changes is tweaking the current concept of the board. I would like to add an appropriate amount of transparency to everything the board does, to break away from the idea that the actions of the board are not generally informed about to a great degree. The board of EYP Finland should be one that encourages and motivates with its activeness, and that needs to be shown and shared more openly. The aforementioned relates directly to the public relations aspect of EYP. The annual ball, for example, should be seen as an event for everyone in EYP Finland, but right now it is viewed as something only active and “older” EYP:ers can take part in. Bigger and better marketing of our events has a very significant impact for the growth of our NC, therefore a passion to do more than make a Facebook event is something that is needed, to make sure the whole EYP network knows when EYP Finland has an event coming up. Better marketing, in turn, leads to more participants, and even bigger and better sessions. If EYP Finland could secure extensive reimbursements for participants, especially international ones, the prospect of coming to Finnish sessions would seem much more feasible. This brings us back to fundraising, and while the board has had separate work groups for fundraising before, I think we can do it again and do it better having learnt from last time.

My name is Alexandra, I’m 19 years old and I am an Aquarius! My family calls me Sansa, but all my friends call me Alex. I have younger siblings, and I love pizza! I am currently taking a gap year after doing the IB program here in Tampere, and I am spending my year doing EYP, working on my baby TRENS and working as a cashier and as a pizza delivery person for Kotipizza. Next year I plan to start my political science studies in Amsterdam and I’m very excited to spend my gap year investing in this organisation! 2. Why do you apply for the Board 2020? You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. After being an active member for two years, and working closely with the board for two years as a Head Organiser, I see applying for the board as the most natural next step for me. I have always been drawn to the organisational aspect of things, and have plenty of experience with board work from my work with my high school’s student board, the Finnish IB Society board and on the board of EYP Tampere. I think that working on these boards has given me valuable knowledge and experience on board work and working as a team. After this next year as a board member, I want to know that my work was valuable and that I helped lead EYP Finland in the direction of growth and development. On a more personal note, I want to give back to the organisation that has given me so much over the last 2 years. And to make sure that EYP Finland stays cute, fun and fresh of course! 3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. I would be interested in doing Sessions coordination, Human Resources or International Affairs. I would like to ensure that board work would be flexible, and think it would be nice to increase crossover between areas of responsibility. To pick one, I would especially be interested in sessions’ coordination. I think I would be very good at it as I have been Head Organising now for two years, and have plenty of experience organising large-scale events. Especially after this years’ regionals and organising TRENS, I have learned a lot about organising and sessions. I would like to share what I have learnt and keep our beloved National Committee going and strong. I am organised, eager and wanting to help create the next generation of EYP Finland. Anyone that has worked with me can ensure that I am trust-worthy and will get the job done well. I think at the end of the day, your first session, and your experiences shape your opinion of the

How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? I would like to activate the members of EYP Finland more, and bring our National committee closer. The pathway from delegate to active member should be explained and emphasized to delegates more, to further expand our member base and allow for growth. This could be done with modules or presentations during the regional sessions, or with the NC member of sessions having a chat with committees about how to continue in EYP. Furthermore I would like to organise EYP events in the spring as well, with an idea for an evening dinner program for Finnish EYPers to get together. I also want to start closer cooperation with schools and establish connections with teachers, to create a long-term solution for shortage of delegates, and to create a flow of delegates every year, so that the fall isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t always so busy with school tours. I would also like to make the board a closer concept to the members of EYP Finland, this could be done with regular open meetings or regular Q&A sessions on the EYP Finland Instagram.

1. Please introduce yourself. Hello there! I am a 19-year-old human from Tampere, which is also where I have lived my whole life. I finished my IB studies last spring and currently, I am enjoying my gap year by working a little bit, spending some time applying to study European law and mostly doing something EYPrelated. And when I am not doing that, you can probably find me otherwise planning some trip or event for myself, because I think organising is one of my favourite activities besides, doing arts and crafts and sleeping. 2. Why do you apply for the Board 2020? You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. When I started EYP in 2017 I could have never guessed how much this organisation would give me, and I am beyond grateful for it. I think EYP is already fantastic, but I believe that in the future it could be even more. For as long as I can remember, I have been involved in similar activities and it would feel natural and, in this case, especially rewarding to me to get to contribute to this project with my skills and expertise. I am very keen on getting to the board as I know I would be able to concretely develop certain aspects of our NC so that it could work even more efficiently and be more rewarding for its participants in the future, and I think our organisation truly deserves this. 3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. I am interested in working on international and academic affairs. Having now been a Head Organiser twice and been part of multiple academic teams including the board of a session, I have become well-acquainted with EYP academics. I find this area very fascinating and have also consequently recognised a few shortcomings in EYP Finland's policies and materials regarding this topic, so I think I would know exactly what and how to work on most issues.

In the past, there have been problems with the international coordination of Delegates and a lack of communication between the NC board and Session boards, International Session Delegates and also Head Organisers. Having experienced this first-hand, I would once again be able to tackle this efficiently and give EYP Finland more credibility and transparency in these areas. Furthermore, I would say I have good people skills and I have experience in working in similar positions of trust, for example, in the Children's Parliament and Youth Council. Hence, cooperation with other NCs and bodies and representing EYP Finland would be natural to me. 4. How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? Based on the points I have made in the previous sections I have been able to divide the areas on which I would most like to focus on the two following categories. Materials & guidelines As I already briefly mentioned, I have come to find that there should be some more clarity and planning on the academic side in EYP Finland. During the past year, there has been confusion on many things, ranging from the lack of official selection criteria of Delegates and also Officials to clear instructions for when it comes to the session themes and topics. I would focus on creating official guidelines, templates and spreadsheets that would make session planning and hopefully the academic standards in Sessions higher. Communication & transparency Secondly, I would like to concentrate on transparent, and efficient communication. I would like to work on making the NC board more approachable but also more reachable. More board and NC materials should be available to members in a centralised and transparent way. These would include everything from visual materials to meeting minutes, selection reports and resolution booklets. Furthermore, the board members should be reachable in a reliable way and maybe some discussions into enforcing this would be of use. Some sort of a weekly report system could be implemented here.

I also enjoy everything creative, such as drawing, design and photography. On the side I work as a freelance writer and apart from that I also do quite a lot of voluntarily work in both the Red Cross, my student union and of course EYP. As a person I am very energetic, optimistic and always full of ideas (both good and bad ones). What I bring to the table is my passion and determination for every project I take on. 2. Why do you apply for the Board 2020? You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. Having been in EYP for around three years and the board of EYP Finland for one year, I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. At this point I think I have relatively good grasp of how this organisation works, its strengths but also its flaws. Despite this, I have grown very passionate about EYP and EYP Finland, and the reason why I want to apply to the board of EYP Finland is that I really want to contribute to the growth and development of an organisation that has supported and developed me for over these past three years. I have always been very involved in all kinds of NGOs, doing board work in both the Red Cross, my student union in Finland and EYP Finland. This has given me quite a lot of experience and insights in running and managing different kinds of NGOs, which I think will be very beneficial in my future board work in EYP Finland. Regarding my vision and goals for this upcoming year, I want to challenge myself by taking on a position in the board that I have not had before. This will allow to use my previous experiences while still have a chance of acquiring more knowledge and experience. I would also aim to take inspirations and look at best practices from other NCs regarding my portfolio in order to further develop the role in EYP Finland. 3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. I would mainly be interested in the position as the board member either in charge of Public Relations or International Affairs. The reason why I think I would be fit for handling Public Relations is because I have quite a lot of media experience inside EYP, having edited several sessions and therefore been in charge of the media output of these events. In addition to this, I also have hands-on work experience with media outside EYP, something that I think is beneficial since it allows me to approach the PR of EYP Finland from another perspective. I would also be interested in being responsible for International Affairs and I think I would be suited for this position since I have previous experience of international coordination, not in EYP but in my student union where I was the International Officer for a year. This included communication and cooperation with various other student unions, but also coordination of International events. 4. How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? As earlier mentioned, I would generally like to look towards other National Committees and their best practices in order to develop EYP Finland’s work. An example of this is developing closer relations with schools and teachers like the National Committees of EYP Poland and EYP Sweden. This would make us less reliant on the outreach and delegate recruitment from school tours and we could have a more even delegate distribution throughout our sessions. When it comes to more task specific development, I would like to make our social media more accessible to the outside viewer. In EYP we sometimes tend to forget that most of the general public do not know what EYP is. Consequently, we often use very EYP specific language and post EYP specific content on our social media. While this is not necessarily bad, since it helps contribute to the unique atmosphere in EYP, it also makes the organisation more

inaccessible for outside viewers, such as potential future delegates. I think we need to step inside the shoes of an outsider viewer and think about how they perceive things in order to make our Instagram more accessible. Abbreviations such as TB, CW, GA etc. might seem confusing and â&#x20AC;&#x153;Aleleâ&#x20AC;? taken out of its context might even be scary. I think we need to create more content explaining what EYP is to the outside viewer and become better at including it in our everyday content. This could be something as simple as including a small explanation about every event we are posting about on our stories.

1. Please introduce yourself.

I consider myself to be a stern person and want to find new and creative ways to handle everyday tasks. This has gotten me into some hard to crack situations, but has also resulted in a tremendous level of self growth and self reliability. Having moved out at age 16, I was put in a position of self dependance, at a time when I potentially wouldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have had been ready, but I lived up to the challenge and shaped myself into the person I am today. I have a very large family and have moved from place to place so often, I've lost count. Being put into foreign environments, where I was seen as an outsider, forced me to become a very sociable and easy to get along with person, although I have been criticised for having too loud of a personality. I enjoy being creative, especially in the kitchen. Where I could happily be seen cooking for 3 hours, but I truly aim to have fun. With that being said, I consider myself an extremely level-headed person, but I am also able to pick up social and academic cues and act serious if the situation calls for it. I am currently in my last year of my IB studies and am eager to push myself to be the best representation of myself possible.

2. Why do you apply for the Board 2020? You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. Having heard the complaints from last years Head organisers, many promises were made to address these issues and to allow more independence with organising sessions to Head Organisers. Having being placed in their shoes and head organising a session myself, close to none of these issues were addressed. In addition to this, due to many of the board members this year being absent for the large majority EYP Finland has not been as active with other national committees as it could be. With this in mind my motivation for applying to the board is due to my confidence in resolving these issues and to refresh EYP Finland as a whole, reconstructing their current structure

which hasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t worked to the best of its degree. A potential change would regard the timetable for regional and national sessions which has already been a topic of discussion during the last board. EYP Finland is particularly inactive during the spring and summer seasons and is often forgotten as existing until our regionals in the Autumn. I would aim towards, EYP Finland as being active throughout the whole year which I also see as reducing stress as all events wouldn't be so close to each other. This would also prevent potential members as feeling overly worked. As many of the candidates for this years board have proven to be open to the idea of a new innovative approach to EYP Finland then I believe in the capabilities of creating something beneficial to everyone.

3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. If selected to the board of EYP Finland I would be naturally drawn towards a role that requires a creative mind. I consider myself to possess the ability to create positively creative output whilst also managing to present relevant information in an effective manner. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve been in extremely similar roles before, with being the media representative of not only my own schools student council but also for the Finnish IB society. Both tasks have required me to use creativity in order to attract interest in both boards whilst also keeping those informed in regards to the boards events. I believe an effective way of increasing EYP Finland's recognition would be to represent ourselves, not as a desultory national committee but rather secure and promote benefits from EYP sessions such as travel reimbursements.

4. How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? Having been one of the minds behind this years regional session logos, I would aim to follow down a similar path and want to be apart of creating the logos for next years regionals with close contact to the head organisers so that they can also allow their input. I would also aim to work with the Head organisers in terms of how they want their session to be promoted, as I recognise that it is their liberty to decide such things. It has also been recognised that the EYP Finland board gives themself too much responsibility which should due be delegated to those wanting to be in such positions. I would emphasize that the board is not responsible for organising finnish sessions rather act more of an overlooker. In line with the particular position wanted on the board being communication and PR, I would aim to develop the social activeness of EYP Finland and aim to truly highlight the elements of Finnish sessions which make them unique. EYP Finland is not recognised to such an extent as other national committees, which I aim to change through their interaction with other EYP boards.

My name is Maxine Buchert, I’m an 18 year old from Australia and have lived in Finland since 2014. Currently, I’m attending the last year of high school in the International Baccalaureate line and am taking entirely humanities-based subjects, such as history and psychology. In my free time, I volunteer as a group leader for a refugee organisation, specifically coordinating a kids after-school group. I additionally work as a part-time private tutor in English and generally enjoy any sort of work that involves working together with people! 2. Why do you apply for the Board 2020? You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. EYP Finland, for a few years now, has become a significant part of my life, and has served as the most character-developing and enriching experiences I have had the pleasure to be part of. Considering the various sessions I have attended, having head-organised a regional session, and having been part of the regional committee of EYP Helsinki for 2 years, I have become motivated to further develop my personal and professional skills within a body that acts as a defining force for the direction EYP takes on a national scale. Furthermore, in the light of considerable growth of interest among youths in EYP, the possibilities for improving the way in which EYP is perceived by these newcomers is endless. Being able to improve facilitate a safe environment for both newcomers and EYPers coming from abroad to Finnish sessions acts as a large motivator for me to apply to the 2020 Board. While this encompasses the more general policies found within EYP, I believe that a safe environment is largely ensured by effective communication between board members and the participants in EYP sessions. Additionally, I’ve become motivated to apply as I would like to aid in the process of ensuring participants are able to access as many opportunities as possible within EYP in Finland and well as events abroad. Considering the possibility I’ve been afforded to attend a variety of sessions and independent events, such as going to the European Parliament earlier this year, I have gained valuable insight that not many other teenagers have been able to receive. By being part of these experiences, I have become highly motivated to be part of making sure these opportunities are accessible and enjoyable to as many people as possible.

3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. I would be considerably interested in being a Board member for International Affairs primarily, given my fluency in English and interpersonal skills. My motivation for specifically applying for this role has been focused on the ability to communicate with various National Committees as well as EYP participants. This role is one that is crucial due to its fundamental nature for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, the role of someone within International Affairs is in making sure participants of EYP sessions feel they are being looked after in the organisation, appreciated in their contribution as an EYP Finland member, and feel they are able to develop themselves further. In this way, considering the importance of this role and my motivation to ensure participants feel well-integrated into the organisation, I feel I would suit this role quite well. On a larger scale with regards to National Committee interaction, the role of an International Affairs board member requires the ability to effectively communicate and further enjoy socialising with people from different backgrounds. Considering that I consider myself to be an extroverted person and find myself actively seeking to share knowledge with people from different National Committees, I feel that I would be very naturally inclined to not only be able to take on the full responsibility it entails, but I would enjoy it thoroughly. 4. How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? I feel that all National Committees inherently have considerable room for improvement, as the way in which participants interact with board members is continually shifting to be better and more effective. In this way, I have 2 main goals that I would want to achieve in being part of the Board to ensure that this continual shift is done as smoothly as possible. The first of these development goals would be to improve communications between the members of the board and participants themselves. While this is an aspect of the Board that has seen significant improvements recently, the communications between participants about the ability to attend International Sessions, general events such as EYP Summer Days, and new EYPers being supported in the usage of the Members Platform, are some of the various aspects of EYP Finland that could be even more effectively incorporated into discussions with delegates and alumni alike. The second of these development goals would be to ensure the effective communication of the policies and guidelines of EYP. While the extent to which participants of EYP events are aware of guidelines has improved, I have noticed a remarkable lack of EYPers abiding by guidelines and truly understanding the impacts of policies. Having heard the after-effects of ineffective communication between participants about how guidelines work and their consequences, I have witnessed how rules have been disregarded and have caused unnecessary harm for EYPers. In

this way, I would like to facilitate the development of transparency within the board, EYP Finland, and EYP as a whole.

Please introduce yourself. I am Amanda Häkkinen, a 20-year-old student at the University of Helsinki, where I study theoretical philosophy and social- and economic history. In addition to participating in EYP Sessions, which, frankly, I have done quite a bit of during the past year both in Finland and abroad, my freetime is spent working at a second-hand bookstore, reading, and jamming to jazz every now and then. As a person, I love spotting discrepancies between statements, full-fledged debates, and environments that facilitate the seeking of an unbiased solution and creative thinking. My guilty pleasures include being way too invested in internet culture and spending way too much money on overpriced coffee. Active citizenship has always been close to my heart, and I believe that the elevated level of participation it brings to the community, its empowering nature, and ability to challenge existing structures make it one of the key components of democracy. Over the past few years, I have had the honour of working as a board member in various organisations that are committed to promoting active citizenship among the youth. Some of the most relevant examples in the context of working in the board of EYP Finland are: - Board member responsible for Equality and External Relations, Student Organisation Kumous (2018-2019) - Secretary, Helsinki University Greens (2018-2019) - Member of the Representative Council, University of Helsinki Student Council (2018-) 2. Why do you apply for the Board 2020? You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. After engaging in this organisation rather intensely during the past year, EYP has established a very special and meaningful place in my life. As EYP Finland is the National Committee I originally started EYP with, I developed an immense gratitude for the organisation and its contribution to my personal growth, and now I feel like the time has come for me to give back to the organisation that has given so much to me. Observing the work of various friends of mine that are engaged in the work of their respective National Committees has sparked a strong interest to embark on a completely new adventure in EYP myself. My vision for the Board of 2020 is facilitate the work of EYP Finland in a way that ensures an emancipatory and holistic development of the organisation with a focus on participant wellbeing and engagement as well as the fostering of innovation. My vision on EYP as a whole is all about empowerment and liberation – EYP has always allowed me to develop new skills and try out positions that take me out of my comfort zone, as

well as share what I have learnt to others. I believe that I am not the only one to whom working in this organisation has given a huge confidence boost, and I hope that during 2020, other young people in Finland get the opportunity to identify their strengths and further develop them in an open and accepting environment. Moreover, I wish to see EYP Finland establish an even stronger position within the third sector, both in Finland and internationally â&#x20AC;&#x201C; during the past year, it has been an absolute joy to see EYP Finland cooperate with other organisations that promote active citizenship, and this is a course of action I wish to continue in the future. After all, rather than being its own bubble, I believe that EYP Finland should seek to have its own, clear and holistic role in our civil society, as I am convinced we have much to give to the outside society. Furthermore, I wish to draw specific attention to participant wellbeing and engagement, which applies to both members of the board as well as everyone that participates in the events of EYP Finland. Organisation wellbeing has been widely talked about during the past few years both in EYP and in society, and amidst the constant news of increasing burn-out levels I believe that wellbeing cannot be talked about enough. In order to make the work of EYP Finland even more democratic, I also wish to further the development of increased participant feedback already seen in the organisation during the past year. Lastly, I wish that the board of 2020 does not stick to the old ways of organising the work of the board just for the sake of them having become habits, but rather fearlessly re-evaluates the ways in which the board has worked in the past and changes the structures, if need be. 3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. Working in various positions in other boards in the past has left me with a rather wide range of skills and areas of expertise. Thus, I believe that I would perform commendably in most of the positions, and I would feel rather comfortable taking on any of the listed tasks. However, the tasks that intrigue me the most are human resources and international affairs. When it comes to the management of human resources, I am particularly interested in developing member engagement, as I believe that active citizenship is not only crucial in society as a whole but also organisations themselves. My previous position as a board member responsible for equality in the student organisation of my study programme has provided me with various skills that help narrow the gap between board members and other members of the organisations, such as the making of low-threshold questionnaires, different forms and their confidential handling, as well as the organisation of seminars where the members of the organisation can voice their opinion regarding the work of the board. Moreover, as someone that grew up in a quaint town in Lapland and got engaged in EYP out of sheer luck, outreach and inclusion in the context of EYP has always had a special place in my heart, and I have a strong sense of motivation to further ensure that young people from all over Finland get the opportunity to explore this beautiful organisation. It has been an absolute joy to notice that EYP Finland is organising two events in Lapland during the upcoming two months, and the logical next step would be to ensure that this practice is continued as well as collaborate with other National Committees that have a similar geographic outline and population density to Finland, such as EYP Sweden and EYP Norway, in order to share knowledge on good practices. When it comes to the task of international affairs, I have been rather actively participating in EYP Sessions abroad during this past year and, thus, have gained a rather extensive understanding of the network as a whole as well as the work of different National Committees from the perspective of an Official. In my previous positions in other boards, I have gained rather extensive experience in communication and coordination of projects both within the borders of Finland as well as internationally (e.g. with the International History Studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Association). Participating in international events not only in EYP, but also in the context of the International Philosophy Olympiad, has helped me gained a comprehensive understanding of cultural sensitivity as well as an appropriate level of English proficiency for the position. The vast network of acquaintances I have already established within the organisation can also be seen as an asset.

4. How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? Drawing upon the vision I outlined in my previous answer, I wish to further the emancipatory and holistic nature of EYP Finland by further emphasising collaboration with rest of the civil society. As I already mention, EYP can sometimes feel like a bubble, and especially at Sessions one might even feel excluded from the rest of the society. Thus, I believe that it’s particularly important for the board of the National Committee to seek to cooperate with other actors of the third sectors – and, if unbiasedness is guaranteed, even governmental organisations – in their work that largely takes place outside of the annual Sessions. The events EYP Finland has organised thus far in cooperation with other organisations has been a great step forward, and I wish to continue this practice, as it will make EYP Finland more visible among the different actors of civil society and, thus, grant us with more opportunities to reach young people all over Finland. I would, also, wish for EYP Finland to take stronger initiative in communicating with the rest of the actors within the network and actively explore the possibility of international projects, a good example of which was the International Training organised in 2019 in collaboration with EYP Russia.

Regarding member engagement, I am also rather intrigued by the idea of introducing the concept of “officers” (“virkailijat”), familiar from most big student organisations, to the work of EYP Finland. Officers are not members of the board and are not thus responsible per se for work and further development of EYP Finland, but are, rather, active members of the organisation that wish to help and partake in the work of the board when they have the time and when the board needs some helping hands. Thus would contribute to both member engagement and the wellbeing of the members of the board, as having a few extra hands could potentially ease the burden on the board members especially during the Autumn filled with the preparation of Regional Sessions. Moreover, drawing upon the emphasis I placed on wellbeing and innovation, I would like to explore the possibility of restructuring the positions within the board itself to ensure that responsibilities are distributed in a fair manner so that an individual member of the board won’t have too heavy a burden upon their shoulders. Some tasks could, perhaps, be shared among two or even more board members. Moreover, especially as a board member responsible for human resources, I would draw further attention on participant wellbeing by developing the practices aimed at preserving and promoting Session safety. The establishment of both national and Session-specific safe persons across the network – EYP Finland included – is a great step forward, but I believe that we are far from done when it comes to ensuring that discrimination, harassment, and bullying does not take place within the network. Thus, I would propose the establishment of a “harassment form” with the possibility of anonymous reporting of discrimination, harassment, or bullying, as well as further emphasis on collective responsibility when it comes to preventing these incidents from happening.

1. Please introduce yourself. Hola! My name is Martin and as you can see from my proficient use of Spanish I am rather versed in the art of multicultural communication. To be fair, my knowledge of Spanish ends there, but there are other things which I am a bit better at. I have been told I am rather gifted in the art of imitating the sound of a frog. After graduating from high school I had to start my mandatory military service. This was extremely unfortunate, but thankfully it is over now. I applied to work in Wolt, which is a Finnish startup, while I was in the army. To my surprise, I got the job and started it a few days after I was released from the army. I have now been working at Wolt for about 9 months and so far I absolutely love it. When I’m not working, I’m often either studying for my entrance exams or doing preparing/applying to an EYP session. I don’t have too many additional hobbies since I try to have a few but do them rather well and in this case I am counting work, EYP and studying as a hobby, fun stuff. If I’m not doing one of the previously mentioned things I am probably playing Crash Bandicoot, sleeping or talking on the phone for a literal quarter of a day. 2. Why do you apply for the Board 2020? You may outline your vision, motivation or goals, for example. I am applying to the board because I finally feel like I have something of value to give. I have considered applying before, but opted out of it simply because I did not want to apply to the board just to be a member of the board. I believe I have learned and experienced a lot in the past three years I have spent in this organisation, all of which can be put to use when talking about running and improving EYP Finland. But I am not the only one with plentiful experience in EYP so that does not really set me apart in any way. What does set me apart is the combination of things I have learned in EYP and Wolt put together. Of course I understand that an NGO and a startup are not the same thing, but that does not take away the fact that there are things which I can learn from one and apply in the other. A less specific aspect of EYP Finland which I would want to improve would our visibility to the high school age demographic. I went to high school in The English School here in Helsinki and looking back I am rather surprised and disappointed that they knew nothing of EYP until I told them about it. There are a number of other English schools where I have friends from who also knew nothing about us. The sad part is that everytime I excitedly explain who we are and what we do, I often hear “Oh I would have loved to do that” or “That sounds so cool. Too bad I didn’t know when I was in high school.”. This is just my own area but I still believe we need to improve our visibility across schools in all of Finland. I genuinely believe that we should be an organisation that is much more known across schools in the country, whether or not people choose to join us is their decision, but they should definitely have the option as early as possible. Another aspect that I would personally want to address is our financial state and value to potential corporate partners. The value of EYP is immense and I believe its potential should be recognized and reflected in its financial abilities. This is of course a rather difficult task, but I believe we as an organisation would greatly benefit not just from having session specific sponsors, but actual partnerships with companies that allow us to grow as an organisation. We have a strong position which allows us to not sacrifice any of our values while still enjoying the benefit of having sponsors and patrons. Strengthening our financial foundation will allow us to grow as an organisation by attracting more participants from around Finland, while also making Finland an attractive place for international participants and officials to come to.

3. What kind of tasks would you be interested in the Board in 2020? Explain why you would fit your desired task. As you might have guessed, I am interested in Finance and Fundraising. Although I must say, I am also interested in International Affairs but I believe I would be of most use in the aforementioned position. I would fit in to that task because I have had the privilege of learning from people at Wolt who are exceedingly smarter than I am. I have learned about building corporate relations and how to create scenarios where you can optimize both parties happiness without sacrificing your expectations and needs. In terms of International Affairs I would say I am innately versed in dealing with different cultures. I grew up in a Russian-Finnish family which as you may guess are rather different cultures. In addition to that, I have so far spent my entire academic life attending international schools which has taught me some of my most valued lessons when it comes to working in a multicultural community. In addition to being well acquainted with working with people from various different backgrounds, I have had the opportunity to work in academic teams a multitude of times over the course of the past three years. I have become very familiar with EYP academics and thus could use this experience and knowledge to improve certain aspects of our work.

4. How would you like to develop EYP Finland, especially regarding the tasks you are most interested in? I believe I addressed most of the points I would make here in question 2. But to reiterate, for one I would want to create a stronger financial foundation that will allow us to comfortably grow in terms of the new number of new participants. I believe EYP should be an organisation that is widely known across Finland. The opportunity to join our community should be there for all who want to do so, whether or not they decide to join is up to them of course, but the option should be there. On another note, creating continual corporate relations will benefit both the companies we work with and us since we will be able to reliably know what kind of financial constraints and opportunities we have. Overall, there is a myriad of small things which require more attention and better care for the entire organisation to run smoothly and I am glad to see that so many competent and smart people have chosen to run for the board this year. Different people who have different talents and abilities is exactly what EYP Finland needs to ensure we keep moving forward and actually improving instead of simply maintaining what was before.
