TIPS
TO HELP YOU LIVE LARGE IN A SMALL SPACE
Small doesn’t have to mean cramped. Utilize these tips to help make your small space look and feel more expansive.
1.
Keep things light - As any HGTV devotee would have learned, lighter colours make a room look bigger. This goes for wall paint as well as furnishings. Think whites and neutrals or pastels.
4. Add a mirror - Mirrors visually expand a space by amplifying light and adding dimension. Go for a full-body mirror in the bedroom, a wide one for living areas and a round or oval one in the bathroom.
2. Avoid bulky pieces - Keep things streamlined by going for 5. furniture with clean, simple lines. Where possible, utilize pieces that are tall rather than wide, as they take up less space and draw the eye up. Also, swap your huge couch for a loveseat, if possible.
3.
Tuck things away - Storage space is key in a small room. Go for open shelving to avoid bulk. You can put them on the wall above the bed. Instead of nightstands, tall bookcases can be used to bracket your bed and place books and knickknacks. Storage drawers or boxes that fit under the bed are also great.
Use multipurpose pieces - Items usually have to pull double duty in small spaces, so a great piece like a coffee table that’s padded on top and has a shelf can pull triple duty table, seat and storage space.
6. A new spin on wall trim - Love books but don’t have enough space for a bookcase, even a narrow one? This is perfect for that dead space behind a door.
7.
Use wall-mounted lights - Table lamps require a table, so if you’re looking to streamline your space, go for wall-mounted sconces or lamps.

WAYS YOUR HOME TO JAZZ UP
We all need a little change now and then, and the same goes for our living spaces. Here are some quick and easy ways you can add some ‘wow’ to your home.
1.
Paint - Change the entire colour scheme of your home, add a pop of colour with a focal wall, or use faux finishes and decorative painting techniques like dry brushing, ragging or sponging to add dimension and visual interest.
2. Wallpaper - We’re not talking about your mother’s floral wallpapers here. Digital printing has made it possible to create new, interesting designs, and there are many contemporary options in terms of material, including woven grass, wood grain, metallic, and bamboo.
3.
Accessories - Change up the flavour in your living room by putting slipcovers on the settee and chairs, and/or switching out the decorative pillows.
4. Artwork - Hang paintings, photographs and other graphic work to create visual interest. But don’t just stick them up on the wall - hang them in trios, use different frame sizes, or create shapes.
5.
Mirrors - Well-placed decorative mirrors can also add some pizzazz to your walls. The same rules above apply.
6. Plants - Add floral arrangements to your decor for pops of colour and a fragrant atmosphere. House plants like aloe, ficus, spider plant and bamboo palm also improve air quality.
7.
Linens - Refresh your bedding every now and then. Sometimes, a simple change of linens can alter the feel of the room. Don’t be afraid to mix colours, patterns and textures. While you’re at it, change out your drapes as well.
8. Clean - Sometimes all it takes to refresh a space is a good cleaning. Not only will you get rid of clutter, but you can use this opportunity to rearrange furniture.
