Port Royal Destroyed June 7, 1692 Port Royal, Jamaica, once described as “the most wicked city in the world” and the New World headquarters for piracy, was destroyed by a series of three violent earthquakes and the tsunami that followed. While the focal point was Port Royal, tremors were felt all across the island.

Who You Gonna Call? Ghostbusters! June 8, 1984 The classic comedy starring Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis was released in theatres across the US to much critical acclaim. The late film critic, Roger Ebert called it “an exception to the general rule that big special effects can wreck a comedy... one of those rare movies where the original, fragile comic vision has survived a multimilliondollar production.”

Bustamante, Knight Bachelor June 9, 1955 Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II recognises the contributions of Alexander Bustamante towards Jamaica’s development and confers knighthood upon him. He is given the position of ‘Knight Bachelor’. Bustamante headed the government under Jamaica’s new constitution granted in 1944.

Luca Khouri Game:

Photographer Where To Spot Him:

East Japanese, PULS8, CRU and Fiction Nightclub Luca’s currently working on magazine covers with some “cool and iconic people” and plans to spend the summer revamping his portfolio with “test shoots” from some favorite J’can models: Jaunel McKenzie, Jeneil Williams, and Alysia Francis. We tapped into this young yet accomplished photographer for his wknd hangout recommendations.

Most photogenic wknd spot? The Pelican Bar, St. Elizabeth.

Best wknd?

Frenchman’s Cove with the family. Also, whenever I’m in Portland I make sure to visit the Blue Lagoon to take pictures, it’s definitely one of Jamaica’s most beautiful spots. I promised myself that if I ever get to shoot the campaign for Dolce and Gabbana’s “Light Blue” fragrance, I would do it there.

Most interesting location visited?

I’ve only ever gone to Miami and New York for work, but Paris and Italy were definitely the most interesting because of the art and history.

Recommendations for a first-timer to Jamaica?

Stay away from the traditional all-inclusive resort/hotel. Do instead Dunns River Falls, the Blue Lagoon, Blue Hole and River Rafting on the Martha Brae or the Rio Grande.

Hidden jewel of Jamaica?

Treasure Beach is the PERFECT Jamaican getaway - quiet, relaxing, and a view to die for.

Budget-friendly wknd spot?

The Blue Mountains. It’s far from glamorous and staying overnight in a cabin is very economical. Bonus: hiking the mountain really allows you to soak up all the beauty that Jamaica has to offer.

How would you spend a wknd on your bucket list?

An impromptu road trip around the country with good people and a camera. I would love to do a shoot in the hills in Mandeville and Black River in St. Elizabeth. Locations off the beaten path are the most interesting.

If money was no objection, where would you take a group of friends?

A weekend at GoldenEye definitely! That place holds, no doubt, a great deal of history and of course, iconic beauty.

Really, really, really easy one as this “Interesting Shandy” has only two ingredients. Surely you can’t mess this one up? Pardon us Red Stripe, you’re still our favorite beer.
