f r o m t h e g enera l mana g er ’ s d e s k 2007 ended on a high for Palazzo Versace with the hotel receiving the 2008 Gold List Award for Australia’s Best Hotel. We were naturally delighted to receive such a highly coveted award that was determined by readers of Luxury Travel Magazine. Our aim for 2008 is to maintain this reputation, and exceed guest expectations in all aspects of their stay with us. Phase 1 of our upgrade program for rooms has been completed with the installation of LCD screens in all suite bedrooms. Our regular guests are also enjoying the new luxurious top-of-the-range mattresses and we thank you for your positive feedback. Phase 2, which is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2008, will include new telephones and streamlined armoires which, once complete, will house a slightly larger, and much quieter minibar fridge. An exciting state of the art Media Hub (a digital in-room entertainment system) and LCD screens in the remaining rooms will also be installed with a new easy to use remote control system. Beautiful Versace-designed bedspreads and sheer curtains will complete the upgrade to guest rooms. New compact, state of the art equipment has been ordered for the gymnasium in Salus per Aquum. The equipment will have a low profile, enhancing the overall ambience of the work-out area. In addition to this, a host of exciting dining events are currently being finalized. Guests will enjoy the diverse range of activities that include a Grant Burge Dinner in March, a special dining event in June, an exclusive Iron Chef dinner in July, and much more in the lead up to our birthday celebration in September. La Vita Italiana proved to be enormously popular with patrons in 2007, so the challenge has been set for this year’s event to be even more spectacular. We wish you a prosperous and safe year ahead, and look forward to welcoming you to Palazzo Versace Gold Coast in 2008. Sandra Tikal General Manager

Rise and Shine A R E WA R D I N G E X P E R I E N C E Although there is no doubting Palazzo Versace’s reputation as a ‘special occasion hotel’, not so widely known is the range of programs available to conference delegates and incentive groups at our day spa – Salus per Aquum. The corporate world is well aware of the impact on their bottom line of staff sick leave. Stress-related illnesses are increasing at an alarming rate, and the challenge to reduce such absences is being faced globally. The answer is simple – a reward for a job well done, or an incentive to perform above and beyond, have produced astounding results, for both morale and productivity. Salus per Aquum offers the ideal environment for employees to recharge, catering for groups from 7 to 70 with a variety of treatment and facility options. Extended opening hours offer flexibility for pampering and relaxation to suit a conference or incentive program. Following a relaxing massage or a rejuvenating skin-care treatment, the soothing waters of the mosaic pool are a nurturing finale to time at the spa, whether an hour or an entire day. Guests leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to conquer the world!
Some mornings, the reluctance to stir can be very strong, but on the first Thursday of each month, 300 guests suffer no such problems arriving at Palazzo Versace for the 7am start of The Early Risers’ Breakfast. As Australia’s largest women’s networking breakfast event, The Early Risers Club has become the most high-profile ‘must do’ event in Queensland’s social calendar for business women. The monthly event, held in La Medusa Ballroom, features Australia’s leading personalities and speakers and has raised more than $70,000 for women’s cancer research since launching at Palazzo Versace in 2004. The event, which has been likened to a live ‘Oprah’ show, sees up to 300 guests entertained and motivated prior to heading off to their day at the office. The monthly breakfasts feature an action-packed one and half hours of entertainment which includes nationally and internationally acclaimed keynote speakers. Those who have graced the La Medusa stage include author Susan Jeffers and celebrity Jane Fonda, popular TV traveller Andrew Daddo, Australian Women’s Weekly Food Director Lyndey Milan, renowned author Tara Moss and swimming great Petria Thomas. The breakfasts, proudly supported by Palazzo Versace, are held on the first Thursday of the month.

A F A M I LY A FF A I R “Today’s parents refuse to give up on luxury stays when they have a family, so their children show a level of travel sophistication that previous generations didn’t have.” Luxury Travel & Style Magazine, whose readers voted Palazzo Versace Gold Coast ‘Australia’s Best Hotel’, recently asked both parents and their children which of the Gold Coast’s hotels really do cater for the small fry. This was the response from Alex (Aged 8) about his stay at Palazzo Versace: “The hotel has a really big pool and sand. I’ve never seen a beach by a hotel pool before. The rooms look really good. I like the patterns on the cushions ... They’ve got Playstation, and great hot chocolate, and you can eat fish and chips and see the boats (at Vie restaurant). Everyone was really friendly and the lady at the desk gave me a special colouring book (a Versace kids pack), and a present when I answered all the questions about the hotel – I found out the chandelier weighs 750 kilograms! Parents Check: As a general rule you’d think that Versace and the very young don’t mix. How could the ultimate designer hotel cope with sticky-fingered children? The answer is: surprisingly well. The staff is incredibly child-tolerant ... In fact the hotel offers some of the best service I’ve come across anywhere – and that includes some of the major capital cities of the world.” Our sincere thanks to Luxury Travel for allowing us to reproduce the above which appeared as part of a report in the Summer 07/08 issue of Luxury Travel & Style Magazine (www.luxurytravelmag.com.au)
