Life Through My Lens By Pace Poetry
Donielle Pace
For years, I’ve had the idea that I had to be what others expected me to be. Living in the shadows of others expectations left me feeling empty and miserable because I would be on pins and needles hoping that I didn’t fail anyone. Never realizing that I was failing myself. Once I was sick of “failing” to meet their expectations (because there was no way I would actually meet their expectations), I decided it was time for a change, and it had to start within myself. It was time I started living up to my own standards. Making that change allowed me to surpass the limitations that I had indirectly placed on myself.
Living my life the way I see it has opened my mind up to so many possibilities. I’ve learned to never accept “I can’t. The fear of failing no longer holds me hostage. Actually the failures have been great motivation. For example, when I decided that I wanted to pursue performing spoken word poetry, I did a horrible job my very first time. Honestly, I did so bad that I walked off the stage. However, that was my defining moment; I could only go up from there. Now, I’m performing all over. So many of my friends ask me how am I so sure of everything, and all I can tell them is that I have faith. Do I ever battle still with doubt? Sure I do. But my will to continue to color outside the lines keeps me thriving to take more risks. Like when I decided to write my first book, Awakening the Pace of Love, which is a memoir of my journey of struggling trying finding love that was within me all along. I was hesitant to write it and publish it. After all, who was I? And I would have to be brutally honest about everything I did in order to get my message across to my readers. But my inner forces pushed past all of those reasons why I shouldn’t, and I found every reason why I should.
People still make suggestions about what I can do or should do, and I know their suggestions come from good intentions. I do take their suggestions into consideration, but overall, I make the decisions completely now. Living my life through my own lens has unlocked so many doors that would have remained shut if I would have continued to see myself the way others wanted to see me. There is no greater feeling than waking up every morning knowing that you are fulfilling your own purpose and doing it the way your vision has been drawn out specifically for you.

Meet Author Andre Ray
Andre Ray is currently a self-published author. Mr. Ray was born in New York and raised in North Carolina. He began his passion for writing after many years of public service. During a trip to Florida with his family, his wife encouraged him to take up writing to release the gift that God had placed in him. After praying and seeking the Lord, his first series, “Undercover Deacon, Undercover Deacon 2 was brought to life. Since then he has written “Temptation Has a Price and Never Letting Go,” which all have been on the top #20 list of Amazon’s best sellers list in Christian fiction. Andre is a born- again Christian whom people have constantly spoken over his life by telling him that he is highly favored by God and there is a calling on his life. He loves writing Christian fiction and hopes his books will touch the hearts and soul of its readers. He looks forward to one day seeing his books become a stage play or short movie. He also looks to one day branching out and writing in other genres.
How did you get started in the author industry? My wife encouraged me to allow what the Lord has placed in me to come out. Do you have any favorite authors? If so, who and why? I love reading books from many authors. There are too many to name just one. Tell me about your series Undercover Deacon. What was the inspiration behind that story?
Congratulations on becoming Best Selling Author in Christian fiction on Amazon. Was it hard being on the best-selling list? It was a great experience that I give all praise to the Lord. I also give thanks to the many readers who we as authors could not become who we are today. They are the best and provide great feedback on becoming better writers. Are you planning on doing book tours in the near future talking about all four of your books?
It is about a young man who was caught up in the life of the streets. He thought his life would end up the same as others he has seen die before him, but the Lord had other plans for his life story. Powerful story of redemption. I wanted to show people never give up on themselves or anyone.
I would like to, but I not sure as a new author on this process. Also being selfpublished, I don’t have the financial resources to do all the marketing I would like. Right now I rely on word of mouth and other social media to get the word out.
Are you currently self-published or are you signed under a publishing company?
Have you ever thought about donating some of your books to libraries and at jails?
I’m currently self-published which has been a great learning experience. What made you want to write Christian fiction books? I have always had this calling on my life, but ran from it. As you see the Lord will always pull you back to what he has called you to do. My heart is truly built for encouraging others and finding hope where there is none.
I would love to do that if I knew the process. You how some authors books are based on situations they have dealt with? Were any of your books based on situations from your life? None of my books are based on my life. All have come from praying and seeking the Lord before I type anything
How often do you do book signings and book events? I have not none any as of today. Again, as a new self-published author I don’t have financial resources or guidance in this area. I would love to meet the readers of my books.
Connect with Author Andre Ray and check out his books!
When can your readers and fans expect your next book to drop? I’m working on my next book now. Hopefully it will be out in July. What do you want your readers to grasp from your books? I want readers to grasp that there is hope in everyone. When life knocks you down, get up and keep fighting because it’s not over till the Lord calls you home. The most important thing, reach out and help the next person because you never know you could easily become them. How can readers connect with you and where can they find your books at? www.facebook.com/andre.ray.18

One of the defining moments in this journey for you will be identifying and recognizing your cracks. No matter how much you try to run, hide or mask your demons and your past, it will always show itself. If your father wasn’t in your life or left you, you more than likely have abandonment issues. You battle with what’s called the spirit of rejection. If you were abused or violated as a child, you’re more than likely battling the spirit of abuse and/or trauma; the list goes on.
It’s time to take some action ladies. You only have one life to live so live it on purpose. Live unapologetically. Relationships are a choice so choose better. Focus on yourself, get that relationship in check and entertaining the wrong types of people will no longer be an issue. When you love yourself, entertaining negativity is never an issue. You value yourself too much to let others hurt you or underappreciate you. It’s time for a breakthrough to you!

How it all Began! What made you get into the writing business?
Are you planning on doing book tours talking about your books?
QF: I got into the business of writing simply because of my passion for people. I understand clearly that people are hurting and most often they don’t know how to deal with handle or manage their pain. I use my writing to be a resource to help aid a population of children and adults impacted by incarceration.
QF: I most certainly am! I am planning now for the Fall and Winter.
How did you come up with the idea for your book “Our Moms?” QF: I came up with the idea of my book, Our Moms based off of my work done in the ECE (early childhood education) field and seeing the GREAT need for resources. I had conducted various national trainings and heard the cry of many educators who wanted to help the children and families in their schools and classrooms but didn’t recognize their power to support them effectively. I simply saw a need and dedicated my time and funds to make it happen. I wanted to BE the change for this group. I chose to discuss mothers in this first book because, growing up I dealt with many traumas. The traumas experienced from my parents were detrimental but those done or not done by mom had its greatest impact. What was your purpose behind the story? QF: The purpose behind the story is show children they are not alone, their parents who are away STILL love them and to let adults who live or work with these children have a tangible resource.
Now I see you are doing the business part of being an author. How has that been for you? What are your goals? QF: It certainly has been an experience! Let me share this. As an Author one of the hardest things shared with me was hearing, “You will NOT become rich by simply writing and selling books!” Initially, I was like oh no! I won’t receive that… trying to be deep J The reality is, that was some of the greatest advice shared with me on this journey. As authors, if we don’t leverage our book and content knowledge you will have a shelf full of books collecting dust. My main goal is to impact this nation with the support children with incarcerated parents deserve! I plan to awaken the champion living on the inside of every person I meet! Tell the readers about your webinar parenting with Confidence. What is the message behind it? QF: Parenting with Confidence is a course designed for the everyday parent who feels like a scientist. Scientist experiment to see if something will work. Many parents are trying a little of this and a little of that trying to be better than their parents. The truth is no one has it all together and we all need support.
“ I live, eat, Sleep this Movement!” Quniana
I have created a Facebook group(https:// www.facebook.com/groups/ParentingwithConfidence/) of support just for parents who will stand and say, I don’t know it all and No, was not taught how to be a parent (or even a good one) but I want to Parent with Confidence! This course is available on Youtube: https://youtu.be/yI0PNuB481s What exactly is the ECE firm? QF: The ECE Firm is my first business which is my baby. The ECE (early childhood education) Firm is a professional development firm for adults who live or work with children ages birth-8 years. We provide an observation based assessment and from the data determine a plan of action to assist child care centers or elementary schools increase their quality of care. We also offer quality American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED courses. Visit us at: www.ecefirm.com for more details. When did you start the 1in14 movement? QF: I started the #1in14 movement last November once the data for children with incarcerated parents increased from 1 in 27 to now being 1 in 14! I want the world to know what those numbers mean when they see it and ignite something on the inside of them to help these children and families . What motivated and inspired you the most when starting this movement? How did your interest spark in wanting to help incarcerated moms? QF: The motivation truly comes from within. I am simply doing something I could have only wished for as a child. I am becoming my own childhood hero! So, my mother and father were both in and out of local jails and state prisons for most of my life. In 2016, I still battle with having a mother who has substance issues and pending criminal charges. I live, eat and sleep this movement! Are you planning on writing another book soon?
QF: I am! I am actually a part of a book anthology that will be released later this year. Aside from that the second book from my children’s series will be released the first of the year. What advice would you give authors who are trying to conquer the business part of writing? QF: Be careful who you tell your BIG dreams to. Remember you are an expert in whatever genre of books you have produced. Be Relentless! No one is going to hand success over to you! Remember, you have to play a part in your rescue. Visit the sba.gov website and contact your local SCORE office. SCORE, consist of a group of business professionals who (FREE of charge) mentor you and have a proven track record of good business skills in various arenas. Network, NETwork, NETWORK! QF: I am! I am actually a part of a book anthology that will be released later this year. Aside from that the second book from my children’s series will be released the first of the year.
How can your readers connect with you and to purchase your book? QF: Thank you for this opportunity! To connect with me and purchase the book visit www.qunianafutrell.com or you can find me on most social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Periscope and even Snapchat @AuthorQFutrell . Subscribe to my YouTube channel: Change the Family, Change the World! Again, Thank you and I look forward to connecting soon. I leave you with my favorite quote by the late educator Rita Pierson, “How powerful would our world be if we had kids who were not afraid to take risks, who were not afraid to think, and who had a champion? Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be!”

How did you start out as an author? FS: I started out as Crew Member at Chick-Fil-A texting my friend all that I had learned about selfpublishing. I was telling her how simple it would be to put her story out there and change the world and I realized that I was actually trying to convince myself to do the same. It took years of me writing play scripts and novel drafts before I had the courage to write a book of poetry. Poetry embarrassed me. But when I'd make it home I'd see how large my collection had become. I'd reread my work and know for a fact that God was working through my because not only would my own words minister to me. The deepest lines were lines that I didn't even remember writing. It was as if he had fed them to me. Not only that but writing was a huge release for me. It allowed me a silent therapy that didn't put the world in my business... So I started out as an author when I actually found the want and the courage to put people in my business.
I can't share my marketing techniques only because I am a firm believer in not letting your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Since I am fairly new to this I am more so taking note. I do a lot of research, I test out different theories and look for the perfect fit. But it's way too early on to really know what works or not. I can't put myself out there too much. When can your readers anticipate your next book coming out? My next book should be out in less than a month.
What motivated you to write your books? FS: Christ is my motivation. All I want to do is inspire others. I want to allow people to grow by putting the things that I've seen out there. I want people to see themselves in my work without feeling attacked or called out. I want people to accept their truths and to grow bold in them because way too many people are losing themselves trying to please a world of people who won't even attend their funeral, knowing that the love that was shared was enough to allow a person to truly rest in peace. Since being an author, have you participated in any author events to promote your brand and books? FS: No. I haven't been to any events just yet. What are some of your marketing techniques you use to get your audience involved in buying your books?
“ Christ is my Motivation! All I want to do is Inspire others ~Felicia
