Remember Your Elders and Put a Spring in Their Steps By Brian Taylor Something interesting came to mind for me as I began to think about the month of April. There are all sorts of things in which a person can celebrate, commemorate, and acknowledge during the month. There's women's health, Jewish-American Heritage, Mental Health, Diversity, Community Service, and even African-American Women's Fitness. However, there was one thing stuck out like a brass ring for me. It was that this month is also National Older Americans Month. At a time of year when many people's thoughts are on youth and rejuvenation because it's the first full month of spring, it is strikingly unusual to think of it as being a time to acknowledge older Americans. Yet, what better time is there? Just because the common thought about aging is that the latter stages of life are seen as the winter months, there is no reason that we should perpetuate that notion, just as I am sure that seasoned citizens would much rather recapture the youthful spring in their step like the rest of us. From a biblical perspective, we are told in Leviticus 19:32 "You are to rise in the presence of the elderly and honor the old. Fear your God; I am Yahweh." Honoring the elderly and those who are older serves a unique purpose. First, it is a reminder to us that they have blazed a trail for us and established a pattern to follow. Legacy is built on a vision that has been cast by one generation and carried out through the generations that follows. Honoring the elderly acknowledges their contributions as well as their years of attained wisdom. Second, in honoring the elder generation, we remind ourselves that there is a generation that will follow us. What they see us do for the preceding generation will with all hope be seen and repeated in the following generation. If we hope to receive the same honor, we cannot neglect to model the respect and honor we desire if we do not model a pattern in front of those who are watching us. A third thing about honoring the elderly and the old is that it is a means by which we humble ourselves. Too often, we as a younger generation can become arrogant or overconfident because of perceived strength and attainment of affluence. Honoring the aged and elderly keeps a sense of humbleness that they have seen more and done more and are farther along and have a greater vision for what is ahead of us because they have the foresight and foreknowledge of those added years. So as you go forth through this month, whether it's working on your summer physique or planning for that vacation with the children, don't forget to include a set time to honor the elderly. I'm very certain, in as much as it will put a smile on their face, it will put a spring in their step. You may find that as a result of it, you'll have a new spring in yours as well.

A Classic Queen I blink my eyes twice to see if this is just another fame fantasy Looking between my eyes not knowing if I will find the real enemy I step foot in this world not knowing what type of reaction I will get from this realistic reality
She doesn’t have to have the fame but to be known of her worth Her true worth A big part of her soul
I wasn’t born with make-up or walking in 6 inch heels
In the light of heaven she will be seen
I came born into the world of reality not knowing how a real queen should feel
Always sitting on her throne Like a real natural
But my heart is always protected from the man hood of insanity; just let the queen heal
Classic Queen!
I am dignified and chasing after my first love; the passion of being an independent queen
Written by Lyrical Passion
Beautiful and bold; but don’t get it twisted, I’m living on my throne of dynasty Always going to keep her head above water and allow the queen to be seen
Dedicated to all the women who are Classic Queens “A Classic Queen All Day Every day!” (c) InspirationZ by Patrice
Enough of the heartaches and headaches of pissy lies and sorrow and pathetic cries Broken relationships that went sour At least I’m not messing around anytime of the hour That’s the king’s job to please the queen indeed To indulge her soul with royals and gems and pearls; to treat her like a deluxe meal But only to seal the real deal No more messy lies and unwanted text messages of BS crap that was written on the wall of shame Look at me Take a good look at what’s standing in front of you I’m still and always will be A Classic Queen Holding her head up high and never letting her crown of royal and power fall off To sit up high on her throne What’s the big deal if this queen is meant to be alone? She wouldn’t have to worry about any more heartaches or for her heart to once again be sewn Living in a world of pure hate from other sistahs who has no dignity and shame

Starting a New Life As I lay under the moon and stars I anticipate on brightness shining on me for the rest of my life
To be in paradise and in a place where relaxation and a peace of mind lives.
Here I lay
Leaving behind the past behind
To once again free me from the past of the burdens
No more crying, frustrations, stress, depression
Trying to burn me alive
I’m ready for a new ME and a new Confession!
I just wait and breathe; breathing deeply as I decree and declare a new life
Written by Lyrical Passion
To be a better me I’m discovering the new me The new one without holding on to past pains and insecurities I leave all the pain and the tear on the moon Once again as I lay Breathing loudly as I hear my own breaths in a pattern My heart once again once to be free once again from depression, heartaches, worries, frustrations, stress So just look at me The new me I mean Can you see inside my mind? What’s left behind is the tears, no more pain and certainly no more crying! You see I am the strong woman that I am becoming to be More stronger, more calmer and yes finally free You see these aren’t thoughts that I’ve decided to type on paper because they are the truth Trying to teach the importance of empowerment and inspiration to a new generation Today’s youth Don’t pin me down to the ground when all the hell I’ve been through was to only wake me up! To see how life really is For what it is worth. But I’m still laying under the moon and stars. Leaving behind the old garbage that wasn’t worth two cents! I’m more to what you may have read; a passionate soul that creates opportunities because the doors knock
