La Città di Domani. La Città del Noi.
This work originated as an assignment for the course, Introduction to Design, and was elected as the annual departmental apparel of the Department of Urban Planning at National Cheng Kung University. “La città di domani” translates to “The city tomorrow.” This phrase conveys that the mission of urban planning is to improve the city, which refects the shared vision of the people. The logo is inspired by the image of Michelangelo’s David, who gazes into the distance, symbolizing forward-thinking and aspiration.
The work was born in response to an assignment with the topic “Vehicles in the future world.” The worldview of this design is set in a future society that has become highly cyberized (The well-known cyberpunk flm Ghost in the Shell may help readers envision the so-called cyberized world). To ensure secure record-keeping and prevent hack attacks, human in the future rely on cybernetical circuit boards, which contain vital personal information such as memories, abilities, and cybernetics compatibility. Recognizing their signifcance, MAiLCYCLE emerges as a specialized vehicle for secure transportation.
It features a central circle with ten compartments for secure mail storage. As each cavity’s mails are delivered, the central circle rotates to position the next compartment. When the MAiLCYCLE docks at a mailbox, an automated system sends all the mails through a specialized “mouth” connecting to the mailbox. As for the appearance of the vehicle, it was inspired by the movie Tron: Legacy, incorporating sleek, futuristic lines and glowing accents to evoke a high-tech, digital aesthetic.
This work was created in response to an assignment requirement. Observing that most hand tools on the market are masculine in style, I was motivated to design a tool that combines both functionality and a more inclusive aesthetic. With a design rooted in the wisdom of the law of leverage, this innovative hammer gently roots out tent stakes with remarkable effciency. Additionally, for those who prefer traditional methods, the ROOut hammer features a convenient hook function, allowing users to pull out stakes in familiar ways. With its humble yet effective approach, the ROOut hammer aims to enhance users’ camping experience by providing a reliable and versatile tool that tackles the task of stake removal with ease and simplicity.
ROOut’s specialized hammer head deviates from traditional camp hammers with a unique claw that is not hook-like. It also features trough-like forms on both sides, enabling users to root out tent stakes by securely jamming and pulling them out effortlessly.
